Definitely got me through Corp Tax with flying colors
Although I went to every class of Corp. Tax at the LL.M. level and read every assignment, things never came to me as clearly as they did after working with this book. Ms. Block does an excellent job of describing transactions and their tax consequences with intelligent simplicity and brings even the hardest concepts within the tax novice's grasp.

The Best
It's the best corporate tax book out there period.

Extremely Helpful
Corp. tax is one of the more difficult courses in Law School, but is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in transactional practice, or looking to improve their skills in using challenging statutory material. This book makes the subject a great deal easier---one of the better study aids I've used. The explanations are very lucid, and the problems are extremely helpful for exam prep. Keep this within arm's reach of your I.R.C.

Important intellectual ammunition
This book is famous for the favorable treatments given to pimps, drug addicts, litterers, counterfeiters, and the like.

Those chapters are certainly worthwhile, but for me the best parts were the clear, concise explanations of why people like the often-vilified "slumlord" and "ghetto merchant" -- who charge high prices for low quality in the inner city -- are actually worthy of praise. The simple economic ideas so clearly explained here are essential for anyone who believes in free markets to understand.

EXCELLENT MUST READ
This is hands down the best economics book you will ever find. It is halarious but still teaches you why our current economic (semi-Socialist) system is a failure!

So lucid it can't be true!
I was expecting a standard Rothbardian treatment of vices and I was shocked at this short, easily read book. I bought it in San Francisco, CA, and was finished with it by the time I stepped onto Illinoisian soil. The arguments are straight Mises - amazingly simple, yet profound. It's hard to explain how such simplicity can be found in each chapter. If you are unconvinced, just read any chapter (many are only two pages long) - concerning the miser, the corrupt cop, the pimp, and the advertiser. This isn't Rothbardian in that Murray Rothbard will argue down to the very philosophic principles to prove his point. As an analogy, you don't need to know the quantum mechanics [Rothbard] of the transistors (semiconductors) to know the functions [Block] of your computer. Sorta.

Easy Pieces: Creative Color Play With Two Simple Quilt Blocks
Published in Paperback by C & T Pub (November, 1998)
Authors: Margaret J. Miller and Kandy Petersen
Amazon base price: $27.95

Creativity Plus
Margaret Miller's book is filled with incredible creativity. She guides the reader to just let the juices flow and not to be afraid to try whatever "the reader" feels will work. No intimidation, no stress. First time quilters need not be afraid to give it a shot. Every quilt is a piece of art!! I'll own all of her books soon!

Spectacular Mind Opener
This book has been inspirational to me. I am now in the process of designing my own "Easy Pieces" quilt. The concept of using only triangles and wedges and then cutting the 6" block from the sewn pieces is so simple even I, a beginner quilter, could figure it out. The color and pattern possibilities seem to be endless and the results are startling. I have to finish up a boring hexagon quilt before I allow myself to start my Easy Pieces quilt, but I know exactly what I am going to do and have purchased the fabrics already. WOW"

Reccomended by the accidental quilter
I bought this book to learn more about designing quilts. Margaret Miller encourages the reader to play with two basic geometric shapes. This frees up the beginner from being overwhelmed by complicated construction techniques and able to play with quilt design. The quilts selected for inclusion in this volume also have a great deal of motion built into the design, so it gives the reader a chance to study how this is done. If you want to learn more about design, color, and motion of quilts--this is an excellent resource. Color examples that are my favorites include Marty Kutz's "Fall Frost" (pg. 60),Grace Crocker's "Quilt Virus"(pg. 66), Maureen Roy's "Sisters"(pg. 100), and Nancy Meyer's "The Inside Story."(pg. 51). All of the examples in this book are contemporary style quilts. mary cox the accidental quilter

Just what the title says!
Vizard delivers exactly what the title is all about. He helps you balance power & longevity against the pocketbook. He also substantiates his claims with his own companies dyno or flow data. Rebuilds range from a minimum of $600@300hp to a maximum of $3000@550hp. Add some nitrous (he talks about this too) and you have a 800hp engine for under $3500 bucks! Be warned, he is blunt and opinionated but backs up his claims.

incredible author
david vizard is the best performance auther i have ever read. he only relies on things he has personally proven, and he shows you how he has proven it. he doesn't seem to be as oppinionated as other authors. i would recommend reading any of his books

Never too late to learn!
The audio-tape of this book was excellent and very worth the money! At first, I didn't realize it was on tape, I thought I bought a book. Since it wasn't available in any other medium, I went ahead and listened to the tapes - and they were awesome! I'm in my 40s and this tape taught me new things to make my husband happy and he's noticed the difference. It also was right-on in telling the woman's point of view for my husband to hear; this tape said things I hadn't been able to. It's a great couple communication tool and just plain fun to hear. Enjoy!

Before I'd ordered this book, I was a sexual miscreant, abusing my precious sexuality in ways to horrible to mention here. However, after delving into Susan Block's masterpiece I emerged a sexual dynamo, crackling with the newfound libidinal energy unleashed through her detailed and easy to follow techniques. If you're interested in giving your sex life a swift kick in the pants, then this book is for you!

MOPAR or no car: a review of How to rebuild B-Block Mopars
How To Rebuild Big-Block Mopar Engines by Don Taylor is a very informative book. It covers everything from inspection of your old engine, removal from vehicle to disassembly and reassembly. Also includes proper cleaning techniques as well as machining recommendations. This detailed book includes casting numbers for blocks, cranks, rods, cylinder heads, intake manifolds and water pump housings for those who want an accurate restoration or those needing help with identification of parts. This book is more detailed about B/RB disassembly/reassembly and problem areas and tips to make the job easier than other general engine rebuilding books. Don gives step by step instructions on reassembly with plenty of pictures to help. This book will help the novice or experienced engine builder do a better job on his Mopar.

By far the best engine book I've seen
I have rebuilt many engines of many different brands, I have read MANY books on rebuilding these engines, and this book by FAR is the best book I have seen, It gives step by step instructions and it makes doing it SOOO easy, even if you have never picked up a wrench, with this book you can rebuild a Big Block Mopar. This book actually makes doing work fun and easy. This book is a MUST for any person who wants to rebuild a BB Mopar and build it right.

Must have book for "B" Mopar engines
I have not worked on cars for 20 years but then I bought a 76 Dodge Pickup that needed engine work. I knew that I would be over my head when I removed the valve covers. That is when I decided to get a book on Mopar engines. When I received the book I started reading expecting a book for mechanics, but what I found was a how-to rebuild a big block Mopar. It is written as if the author was telling you step by step just exactly how to remove, disassemble and repair the engine. He told what to look for and how to fix it. Then step by step how to re-assemble the engine and put it back in the vehicle. All of the while passing informative tips and a few tricks. The book helped me avoid several costly mistakes. It is a must have for anyone considering rebuilding a big block Chrysler.

STILL SEARCHING FOR MY COPY IN MY MOTHER'S BASEMENT
I loved this book! I think I still have it... somewhere. I purchased it myself from the bookmobile when I was in elementary school in D.C. I read it again and again, discovering yet another exciting event Chester Filbert was missing while he was so busy complaining. What about the parachuter?! "Geronimo!" and the girls jumping rope, the armored car and the money everywhere? And yes, the witch popping up in different windows! Chester's last words... "when I grow up, I'm going to move." Well, Chester, I live in NY now, and there's so much happening on my block that I may otherwise take for granted had it not been for you!
Love, Nay in NY (all grown up and still loving your words)

This book is the reason I became a teacher!
As a child reading about Chester Filbert, lamenting that nothing ever happens on his block, urged me to teach the Chester Filbert's of the world to stand up and look around. I want to heighten young peoples awareness that the things in their community are of importance and to get involved as an active citizen. I teach high school social studies and the first day I read Ellen Raskins' classic!

this is such a fun interactive book to read with kids
there are new things on every page for a kid to spot and the illustrations are rich and colorful. it is a short and exciting read!

Murder in Early,Michigan
On The Chopping Block,Bobby Jaye Allen's third book takes place in Early,Michigan. Brady Kincaid has arrived to visit with friends and attend Early's Founders Day Fair.
When the brutally murdered body of the town librarian, Penelope Powder is discovered, Brady is quickly pulled in to help with the investgation.Brady is a former homicide detective who now works as security for a teacher's college in Ohio.He has worked with Detective Newkirk in the past, but we meet Alice Drinker who has replaced vacationing Officer Bebout. Alice is an attractive woman with an intriguing personal history, much of it rumor.
Once again,Ms Allen presents us with an unusual set of characters. There is Randall Zebner, the sweaty photographer, Holly LaFrance, author who is at the fair for a book signing of her latest publication, her agent Worthington Smitherly, pompous and pretentious, and Marva Greeves who had hopes of being appointed to the Library Board. The introduction of Peter Yee who trained as a "Vrai Nez" or true nose gives us an insight into the perfumery business.
Brady and Alice quickly narrow down their suspects but to tie it all together and get all the physical evidence in place makes a very enjoyable story.
We see Brady's growing attraction to the lovely Alice Drinker. With the crime solved and suspects in custody, we leave Brady pondering whether to go back to his job at the college or accept an offer to return to Early as a homicide detective.

Bobby Jaye Allen Scores Another Hit
On the Chopping Block
Bobby Jaye Allen
What a delight to enter the lives of our friends in Early again.
The local librarian has been the one chopped and we are led on the chase of the killer(s).
Once again we are offered clues and can try to guess up to the end just who is responsible for the murder. We get to revisit old friends such as Brady Kincaid and also meet new ones like Alice Drinker.
I for one hope to be able to continue into this little window of their lives.
Thanks Ms Allen, you have scored another hit with this reader.

On teh Chopping Block
What can I say? I loved On The Chopping Block. Bobby Jaye gets
better with each book. It was like old home week. Hearing about the lives of cousins Claudia and Joyce, a deeper look into Brady Kincaid and what he's thinking makes me hope that Bobby Jaye's next book will continue with him
coming back to Early and joining the police force. Of couse there is the enigma of Alice Drinker and Brady, can't wait for her to sort that one out.
A terrific read. Couldn't put it down. Even stayed up late to finish it. Rock on Bobby Jaye

Broadcast newswriting for the professional
Merv Block was himself a newswriter. He wrote for Cronkite and others; his experience is unquestioned.

Block's book, and Bliss's book(Writing News for Broadcast, Columbia University Press) are, in effect, the bibles of broadcast newswriting.
Block gives his own tips, and also shows how it's done by taking broadcast scripts apart and correcting them.
There is no better book for the professional newswriter.

can't live without it!
Ten years ago, I had the privilege of taking introductory radio writing from Mr. Block while earning my master's degree in journalism at Columbia University. If memory serves, Mr. Block also revisited my spring semester radio news course as a guest editor and instructor. He was a tough and fair instructor -- one of the many highlights of my year at 116th and Broadway.

Mr. Block's book has been indispensible to me ever since. Every so often, I reread a chapter to keep my writing fresh, and to jolt me out of the workaday rut so many reporters and anchors inhabit. Television news works on two levels, the words and the pictures, and it is a challenge and an art to make the two levels work together!

Whether you're a journalism 101 student or a seasoned professional, it never hurts to have this book on your desk (and occasionally at home!). Your viewers, producers, photographers, and managers will thank you!

Broadcast Newswriters: You Need This Book
To paraphrase Mr. Block, "if newswriting is easy, then you're doing something wrong." This book is for the lover of action verbs and simple words. You're taught to think and to see the beauty of simple writing. And if you want to be GOOD, you must learn to TELL a story. After you read this book, the news will likely not sound the same.
