Lots of ideas...
Enjoy this book for the myriad of ideas for blocks. I bought it so that I could practice making different types of blocks, and it's fantastic for that. It includes both rotary cutting instructions and templates, so you can choose either method. I prefer different color schemes than the author uses, so I've been drawing the blocks in the EQ4 quilt-drawing software and re-coloring them the way I prefer; it's great fun. I would not call it a beginner's book...maybe intermediate to advanced. It's not meant to be your only quilting book (but then who can resist having more then one quilting book?).

Disadvantages to this book: Each block includes a list of the shapes to be used, but you have to count the number of times each shape is used in the block to know how many to make. I imagine that's because you're likely to be making more than one of each block, but it would be much easier if there were another column containing the number of each shape to be made for one block. Then the reader could just multiply that number by the number of blocks to be made. Also, be aware that the book often refers to one of the author's previous books for additional details. Not having that book has not seemed to be a problem so far.

Great Reference Book
This a great book for those who prefer not to make their quilts by a prescribed pattern. Blocks are arranged according to size and difficulty. There are even a few large, intricate designs that would work beautifully as a medallion for the center of a quilt. There are lots of traditional patterns along with many that were designed by the author. A nice addition to any quilter's bookshelf.

Walking a mile in my father's shoes...
The novel starts out with Brann (a twelve year old boy) not understanding his parents "Level Two" fight, where he took his mother's side in the dispute and did not understand his father's point, nor did he respect his father all too much. He crept into the basement to escape the dispute, only to fall into another world, another adventure. As he fell asleep in the middle of a fortress of building blocks, he then awoke to a new world, where his father was two years younger than himself. Their day was full of adventures, all of which Brann took a great deal of learning from. His father grew up a lot different than he provided for his son, and Brann was able to see where his father was coming from. We all have misunderstandings with our parents, and have trouble understanding their thoughts and points. Here, Brann is able to see the events that shaped his father, including the one event that shattered him the most. It gave meaning to walking a mile in someone elses shoes to see their point of view. I, overall, think this book is great for older children to read. It will help them to gain perspective in one way or another. The only gripe I had with this book is the handful of grammar and spelling errors that appeared throughout the novel. I do not know if this is because of the editing, or the publishing or who is responsible for looking out for that, but there were obvious mis-spellings, wrong word uses, and apostrophe use. It just really distracted me at points from reading the text. But other than those issues, the novel was well written: It had an exciting plot that draws the reader in, along with relatable characters whom the reader can easily relate to. Like I stated before, a great novel for older elementary aged children.

A valuable lesson through someone else's experience
While his parents were arguing, Brann went down stairs to the cellar and located his father's building blocks, which had been passed down through generations. He built a fortress and went to sleep on the cement floor. He awoke on a wooden floor looking at his father who was now ten years old back in l939. During this adventure he learned why his father married his mother and came to understand more about his mother's and his father's personalities. Because of this experience he saved the marriage between his parents due to the fact that you really don't know somebody unless you knew them when they were a kid. Kids don't have so many walls built around them to hide behind and keep safe.

I think it would be great if we could go back in time and meet my father and talk to him when he was the age of ten. If this was possible we could save a lot of relationships and we would have a better world. It is true that we really don't know somebody unless you knew him ar her as a child because they haven't had a chance to build all those walls around them.

a thrilling book full of turns
I liked all the book as I love reading books of this sort. Moreover, the book touches the history of my country, Slovakia, and Central Europe in many aspects. I appreciate that, to my knowledge, many facts (geographical, cultural) were quite precise. Also, it seems to me that the author rather well manages to describe the life in the area and the times the story takes place. However, I wondered about some details. For instrance, why the majority of town names were true and some were made up (as "Parkan" - there is no such frontier crossing between Slovakia and Hungary); Czechs were given Czech names, Germans German, Serbs Serb,..., but one of the main figures, Janos Kotacek (the real name of the Slovak Minister of Interior during the WWII was Alexander Mach, I think) was given a Hungarian-Czech name (Janos means John in Hungarian, Kotacek sounds pretty Czech); etc. Nevertheless, these details didn't spoil my very good feeling from the book and I recomend it to everyone who likes "mysterious literature". The book made my flight from Seattle to Copenhagen even more pleasant.

A really good read, in fact it is a classic!
The CIA was immediately ruled out for this covert operation because failure could lead to terrible repercussions for the present administration. Besides which, no one would believe a renegade like Evan Tanner would be employed by the Feds. Thus, the ultra-top secret agency turns to free lance Tanner to pull off the job. All Evan has to do is to abduct Janos Kotacek, a prisoner of the Czechoslovakian government, who is bound to be convicted and hanged for his activities.

Janos may be elderly and dying, but his role as the head of the fourth Reich makes him very valuable to United States spy operations. Unbeknownst to him, his group has been infiltrated, making it easy to keep insider tabs on the criminal, his associates, and his operations. His untimely death would leave the spy agencies seeking new sources. Evan travels by train into Czechoslovakian, but is quickly in trouble. Someone set him up to be detained by the police. With assistance, he manages to escape, but his plan is already off-stride and a large manhunt has begun to thwart his efforts.

THE CANCELED CZECH is a reprint of a classic Tanner spy tingler that, in spite of the wall tumbling down, remains a fast-paced, insightful look back at the Cold War. The story line is a delight and the support cast adds an authentic Eastern European feel to the tale. However, it is the spy who never sleeps, Evan tanner, in one of his best adventures, that keeps this period piece a fabulous entertaining novel.

Superb little book on an exciting & special building
Excellent little book on the "Fallingwater" house by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed in 1935 ( He also designed Guggenheim Museum ). This little book ( measures 5 X 7 inches )contains 90 pages of which the first 15 pages are text, from page 17 to 82 there're Black&White photographs, the last 8 pages are drawings and plans of the house accompanied by explanations to the images. Photos are by Ezra Stoller and "Fallingwater" ( Pennsylvania - USA ) is undoubtfully the most photogenic private house ever built! All photos are superb, especially the ones showing the waterfall running underneath this superb house!
Drawings and plans are made by floor and give a good idea of the interior dining room, kitchen and terraces!

Ezra Stoller does it again!
Ezra Stoller is an expert in the art of photography. Although Mr. Stoller is not an architect, he shows you the beauty of one of the marvels of great architecture. Falling Water is one of those dream houses, built over a waterfall, but fitting in perfectly with its surroundings. Ezra Stoller captures its magnificence.

Quality content orderly presented without leaving out detail
Wilson's book presents a step by step how to rebuild your BBC without being an "upscale" list of bullet points. His presentation, while perhaps a bit grammatically insensitive, appeals to people who won't mind getting their hands dirty taking on their own rebuild project. I recommend Tom's book for anyone considering a rebuild of their Big Block Chevy. You won't find hot rodding performance tips here, but you'll come away with all the practical knowledge needed to work through it on your own. The one piece of advice I'd add to the book is that you use an oil pump primer to spin up your oil pump before first starting your newly rebuilt motor.

Rebuilding Big Block Chevy's
This book was an excellent, step by step manual on how to rebuild any big block chevy engine. It was extremely helpful to me as i rebuilt my 454h.o. engine and also bored it .030 over. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is interested in engines, doing an engine rebuild currently, or anyone who likes mechanics! Just a fabulous manual! Go Chevy!

Collection of short stories interesting.
A collection of short stories. Some previously published in various mystery magazines. Some never before published. For Matt Scudder fans there's an entry. The first ever Chip Harsion story is also in this collection. Very good reading for a Lawrence Block fan.

Excellent Read
This is the first collection of short stories by Lawrence Block (others have necessarily followed), and contains some real gems. It is here that many readers will make their first aquaintance with Chip Harrison and Leo Haig, Block's tip of the hat to Rex Stout. Also found here for the first time are two tales about his, umm, unusually successful attorney - Ehrengraf. Also a Scudder tale for those devoted fans as well. There's a diverse collection of tales that reads smooth and quick. If you like Lawrence Block you will not be disappointed. Then, when you are done - check out Some Days You Get the Bear for more!

Just a summary of what's in the book
I don't own this book yet, but can give you a bit of description (more than what's provided at any rate).

"Joen's book teaches you to draw blocks from all of the basic patch families (4-patch, 5-patch, 7-patch and 9-patch). Learn to blend blocks from the same patch family to form new, exciting designs. Includes more than 150 traditional, historical and original block designs. No math! No graph paper! No fuss! Includes gallery of quilts."

I'm sure this book is excellent. Joen Wolfrom is a pro; check out her book "The Visual Dance".

Geometry made easy, for quilters
This is a book to keep coming back to, although the method is so simple that now that I've played with it for a little while, I won't feel so frustrated by the need to change block sizes. I stumbled on it after trying to figure out how to work with a 12-inch repeat with a kalidoscope design that called for rotary cutting from strips 6.25 inches wide. So near and yet so far. We graphed it several times and got the desired result, but it would have been far simpler with her technique.

There were several far more experienced quilters in the class, and their comments during the graphing process make me think that a lot of quilters would benefit from this book.

I also appreciated that it will make designing your own patch or adapting something from a picture a simpler process.

I'll buy it when I order some more books in a couple of days - I spent a bundle on fabric already this week. I say that I can either have fun while I make money selling houses or have fun while I spend money quilting. Hard choice.

Indepth & exhaustive review of CPI's
This book gives a lot of information about the history and development of the chemical process industry (CPI). Although a little old (published in 1989), it gives lot of insight about the future of chemical industry based on the current trends. Full credit to the author for covering as much information as possible, however, the verse could have been made more readable. The book mimics a handbook on organic chemical industry, but I think of it as a virtue rather than a shortcoming. A book recommended for chemical engineers who like chemistry.

have used book profusely to make ALOT OF EQQ.

A one of a kind romance, I enjoyed how Caroline Block kept me in suspense from the start right down to the end. This story truly shows how strong the power of love can be, it makes you want to believe. Thank you Caroline for writing such a moving book.

Truly A Tribute To The Power Of Love
This is a wonderful and charming story. I enjoyed the way the author was able to successfully capture my attention with out exploitiing violence and other subjects. There is a lot of action and adventure that kept me eager to read on and find out what was going to happen next. It was great reading and would be a wonderful book for anyone to pass the afternoon reading, curled up on their favorite couch.
