Bad bosses & cubicle nightmares
I work at an engineering company so this Dilbert calendar was a perfect fit. Actually, this calendar is perfect for any office worker. There were so many times when I laughed so hard because so many of the cartoon situations happened here. A Dilbert calendar belongs in every office.

Best day to day calendar around!
Last year was the first time in several years that I did not get a dilbert calendar for Christmas. I received a normal dilbert calendar, but not a day to day one. I really missed it every single day! Having a dilbert calendar in you cubicle is the perfect decoration. People will love to stop by and check it out. The humor may not be for everyone, but as a software engineer in a large company, it is right up my alley! This makes a great gift for a work gift exchange, where you have to spend around 10 dollars.

Love it: makes me laugh every single day!
I've been subscribed to the Daily Dilbert for quite a while now, and when I get that strip in my Inbox every morning, it's just a way to relax and laugh at some of the sad realities of work life... and other times, just a sheer innocent laugh, courtesy of Scott Adams' genius. In any case, for a fan of Dilbert, this is an ideal buy, since -after all- you need a desk calendar regardless: why not make your calendar feature your favorite comic strip! This year's (2003) calendar features strips from 1999 and 2000, so it won't be an overlap with your Daily Dilbert, and even if you've read them before, you should get a kick out of those jokes you laughed hard at when you were at that job back four years ago. Enjoy and make 2003 the best year in a long time!

For a baby
I was so excited to order the Sylvia Long Molther Goose Board Books because my 7 month old daughter loves books, but I was disappointed. While the books are beautiful and she likes them, they really cannot double as building blocks as they are marketed. All babies put everything in their mouths, which is something the manufacturer overlooked. When I gave her one of the books Christmas morning of course it went directly in her mouth and in less than a minute the front cover basically melted in her mouth and some of the paper came off. I definitely cannot leave the blocks for her to play with because they will be ruined in no time. Unlike other board books that have withstood hours of mouthing, I have to make sure I'm with her at all times when she plays with these in case some of the paper comes off which is a choking hazard. Bummer.

Nice Block Books
Just got these block books for my 8 & 1/2 months old. The books are more sturdy than I expected (comparing with other board books that we have.)

My son put the books in his mouth immediately when he saw them. However, the books didn't get destroyed (at least not yet.) In addition, unlike other board books, the pages won't stick together after mouthing.

Although you can pile them up pretty well, don't expect them to be the same as regular blocks. Needless to say, they are still books.

Overall, they are nice and sturdy and my son enjoys playing with them.

Wonderful books and blocks
This is a perfect gift for any baby's first birthday. The nursery rhymes and illustrations are darling and just perfect for little hands. You can read or build with these block books!

The social lives of quilt blocks
One of the most fun things about working with quilt blocks is that you never know what surprises you will encounter. Two relatively plain looking blocks can yield a dynamite quilt design by the interaction of their elements, creating an entirely different secondary pattern. Claudia Olson takes this basic geometric phenomenon and makes a science of it. By studying various quilt block designs, she discovers the secrets of why some blocks work well together and others do not, and shares her knowledge with us. The result is a series of striking new geometric designs made from familiar favorites. The lion's share of this book is given over to detailed project instructions illustrated in full color, and Olson's color choices are varied and interesting. I particularly like the quilt "Dublin Square," which combines Dublin Steps and Town Square blocks. This book can teach you a lot about the social lives of quilt blocks.

Fascinating results from two-block combinations.
Great book! Wonderful selection of traditional quilt blocks to choose from in creating intricate, yet uncomplicated quilts with secondary designs. I especially liked the coordinated borders using block elements to create an even more finished-looking quilt.

All the Blocks Are Geese

Fast and ACCURATE
Previously, I had tried another "fast" way of doing flying geese which was not satisfactory as the blocks varied in size . Most were too small. I hesitated to try another method. But, after someone recommended this book, I decided to check out this method. Mary Sue Suit's way of piecing flying geese is fast and accurate. There is minimal waste of fabric. Also, she includes many different flying geese patterns. I am using one of them (Yankee Puzzle)in an internet quilting row swap. The trimming instructions looked a bit intimidating when I first read them, but when I tried them I got the hang of it right away.

I'll never make flying geese another way...
This is an amazing method for making fast and accurate flying geese. I have done it all the other ways I think that are available and this is the easiest with the least amount of fabric waste. The cutting directions for cutting the geese the final time need to be read slowly and maybe twice, but once you cut them the first time you'll have it down. I received this as gift and I'd highly recommend it to anyone searching for an easier way to make those wonderful geese that are so much a part of quiltmaking.

The Last Enchantment
The book was enjoyable but with the Mary Stewart novels have a lot of detail that can be drawn out.

I couldn't put the book down.
When I first started reading this book, I thought that it would be similar to other authors work. I was wrong. This book ruled! I couldn't put it down.

Stuffy albums renewed
The Baltimore album appliqué style is among the most rigidly traditional of all. What makes a Baltimore album - the elaborate fruit and flower appliqué patterns - doesn't allow for much creativity of design for the quilter. Or does it? Jane Townswick undertakes in her new book to show how quilters can put new wine in old bottles by ringing changes on traditional album blocks. Starting with a significant example of the style, an 1857 quilt from New York state belonging to the State Historical Association, Townswick shows the reader how to update and vary the traditional blocks in the quilt for a fresh and contemporary look that still is clearly in the Baltimore tradition. Townswick also uses fabric selection to update her look, and the effects of including Skydyes and other contemporary fabrics are refreshing and new. The book is full of tricks and techniques for easier appliqué. If you think Baltimore albums tend to be a bit stuffy, this book is a good antidote!

REPRODUCING ANTIQUE QUILTS WITH A NEW SPIN!
This book is very exciting for beginners as well as seasoned quilters. The author is concientious to give instructions on choosing fabric, purchasing the proper supplies, and methods of applique. She gives step-by-step direction on drafting your pattern and making your own applique templates.

Her cutwork instructions make cutwork look easy. The book is packed with information on how one can take an antique quilt block and update it. The author continues to advise on quilting and binding methods; and if that is not all, she adds information about attaching a "hanging sleeve" (for those who love to display their quilts on the wall), and a label.

The quilts are luscious and the patterns are simple to complex (cutwork). I highly recommend this book.

most comprehensive text to date on IPM
excellent coverage of numerous topics a great first attempt...would help if there were more diagrams detailing approaches from differant angles

Destined to Be the Gold-Standard Textbook in its Class
May31st, 2000

Other manuals of Pain Mangement techniques exist, however Dr. Steve Waldman's command of anatomy, clinical disease, and far-reaching vision of the specialty of Interventional Pain Mangement has, for two-decades, been a source of inspiration and courage for younger clinical practitioners in the specialty. The current Hardcover volume is superbly illustrated, with clear instructions, and an encyclopedic-volume of possible pain management procedures to offer patients suffering from a wide variety of clinical sydromes. The author is to be, once again, congratulated for his efforts. I refer to this text regularly in my clinic, and recommend it whole-heartedly.

Procrastination and Blocking

Read other Boice Works
I'm a huge fan of Robert Boice and believe that his thoughts about how to overcome procrastination and writer's block are seminal. He is one of the few people who has done research on how to help people overcome procrastination and increase their scholarly productivity.
However, unless you are (like me) a Boice addict, I would suggest starting with his other works -- especially "Professors as Writers" and "Advice to New Faculty Members". Most of his books are quite repetitive and rather plodding -- but his ideas are life-changing.
I'm a clinical psychologist and professional coach and I use his theories and interventions all the time when I counsel students, faculty and fiction writers.

comprehensive and insightful
I wasn't aware so much was known about procrastination (and blocking) until reading this book. The author points out that although procrastination often goes unnoticed, and has costs, it can be addressed with careful attention and patience. One caveat is that this is intended to address subtle questions carefully and precisely. Thus, if someone is looking for a breazy read, this book would be disappointing. But if someone is looking for a useful explanation and practical insights, this book is appropriate.

thoughtful and scholarly
I didn't realize how much knowledge there was out there about procrastination (and blocking) until I read this very rich book. The author goes to lengths as to why procrastination really can impact on ones life, even though we may be unaware of it, or not take it seriously. One caveat is that the book is written as a piece of scholarship. It is intended to be useful, and it is, but individuals interested in a breazy solution or quick fix might be disappointed. If one is patient and is interested in really understanding what procrastination is about will find this book important.

Rabbi invites a Moslem Imam to speak
This is an amazing story. During the first Intifada, Rabbi Block invited a Moslem Imam, the late Seif Ashmawi, to address the congregation, preaching peace. The Rabbi, in turn, took a group to the Mosque. If only more people in the world could see their way clear to such reconciliatory moves!

Eucumenism in NY - a great story
Amazing story of Eucumenism in NYC
The events described in this book are remarkable. First, this young accountant has what the Cristians consider a Calling, and goes to rabbinical school. Then, after fighting for Israel's independence, he founds a synagogue, dedicated to brotherhood between faiths, and to revival of Judaism, which has lost its appeal to the young. He forms a partnership with an equally idealistic Presbyterian minister, Dr. Jesse William Stitt, and the two travel all over the world, including Germany and Israel, enouncing the principles of peace between men. They do not renounce their principles - in fact when the team appears on a popular $64,000 Question' type program (each answering questions about the other's faith), Dr. Block has to resign due to earlier Shabbat, with the arrival of the Winter season (that was in the days of live TV). Dr Block (he has the DD doctorates from both his seminary and the General Theological Seminary (Episcopal) is called 'one of the ten most important Rabbis of this generation' by a leader of New York's Board of Rabbis.'Brotherhood is still the hope of this world' is his thrust, and he stands by it - he has invited a Muslim leader to make repeat speaking appearances in his synagogue's services in the early 1990s, at a time of huge stresses between the faiths, the earlier Intifada. I bring this out because today we need more of the same spirit, else the World as we know it is doomed. An important man, an important principle.

A Great Personal Story
Rabbi Block is a wonderful writer and tells some very "real" and personal stories that bring to life both his personal journey as an individual and the story of the building of his unique urban congregation.

This is a must read for those who have a particular interest in New York City recent history and the development of a unique Jewish leader.

good selection
I am not a beginner quilter. I came by this book for ideas and a new selection of blocks. There are easy to read instructions and pictures to aid in your placement of pieces. I have choosen blocks for our quilt guild to use for Block of the Month. I have enjoyed it and am now purchasing another copy for my mother.

Finally, an end to muddy Scrap Quilts!
This is one of the very best books about Scrap Quilts. Altho there are no instructions for the pictured quilts and drawings, Ms. Thomas'idea is for us to design our own quilts, based on a presentation of 20 block designs, and to learn how to combine 1 or 2 of these blocks into a unified quilt design. But the best thing about this book is the author's approach to fabric selection which is based on 3 different "recipes" that virtually assures us of quilts in which the colors stand out and the quilt design flows beautifully from block to block. An added bonus is that instructions are given for making a pair of blocks at a time. These blocks can be made from just one fat quarter (or less) each of the 2 or 3 prints which make up the individual block design.

Wonderful Book
I am not a fan of scrappy quilts but couldn't resist this book when I saw the beautiful color combinations inside. I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in using up all those small pieces of fabric that you know we all have. :-))) Her system is easy enough for beginners and inspirational enough for those of us who have been around the "block" a time or two. Enjoy!
