more than you expect
Hi! I borrowed this book from a professor at a class I was taking. At first I was disappointed; I was looking for some concise information on teaching in the block schedule. Instead, I found this book to be a broad resource containing much educational reference material (such as Bloom's taxonomy, Gardner's multiple intelligences, etc.) as well as an excellent in-depth overview of teaching in the block schedule. The format of the book is interesting, too. The chapters are laid out using the analogy of putting on a play. You'll have to look at it to see what I mean.

True Love
This story is fiction, but the way Charles expresses himself the feelings and emotions are so real. "Three Blocks Down and One Block Over" is a story about 'True Love'. A love that very few people actually experience.

Two children, Mary and Joshua, became best friends at a very young age. The first time they saw each other they fell in love but did not realize what had happened to them. Life takes them in different directions but Mary and Joshua never loose the love in their hearts for each other.

Joshua is afraid of rejection from Mary so he loves her from afar without Mary knowing of his feelings for her. Mary has the same feelings for Joshua but 50 years has gone by before they are brought together and admit their feelings for each other. No one was able to get Mary's and Joshua's heart all these years because the love they had for each other was so real.

He has added just enough comical situations to keep you smiling through out the book. For example, Faye, Mary's best friend and the rose tatoo.

Another plus for the poetry lovers -- the poems. Very romantic.

This is the first book by Charles Kahl. I can't wait for the next one. He expresses himself in such a way that you are caught up in all the emotions and feelings.

I read all Danielle Steel books, and Charles Kahl's "Three Blocks Down and One Block Over" is equal to any book by Danielle Steel.

Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!

Great book to learn how sails work
This book is an interesting read. I recommend it not only to avid sailors but also to people who have sailed on a boat once or twice and want to know how a sailboat basically works

The author has provided an excellent history on the development of the sail, starting with boats in the days of the Egyptian's, leading up to today's racing boats. He presents it in an easy-to-read format which allowed me a better understanding on how sails work and how they have evolved.

I also enjoyed the historical anecdotes the author included in the book; it juiced up the readability.

The author of this book deserves alot of credit for putting this together. There are alot of sources (in reference books, magazine articles, libraries, etc.) that have one piece of this history or another. But know one has has taken the time to put the whole 8,000 year history in one book.

Great Basics
Sharon Newman has done a fantastic job of putting the basics in this book. I always refer to this book when I am doing the binding on my quilts - her method is the best and the mitered corners are beautiful. I also refer to it when trying to decide what size blocks I want for a certain size finished quilt. The charts are great! I highly recomend this book for all quilters. I buy copies for friends frequently.

Iris Berry Changed My Life
Read "Two Blocks East of Vine", when you are through, re- read it and then read it some more.

Iris Berry's poetry is like a beautiful film noir.

Iris Berry has touched my life.

Iris Berry doesn't know me nor do I know her, but she knew a friend of mine. Iris wrote a poem called BAD BLOOD AND BITTERSWEETS and that poem changed the world I live in. She gave me clarity and hope, she let me know I wasn't alone nor was I the only one ever having felt this way. Iris if you read this I just wish to say thank you, your poetry is inspirational and loving. I lalso learned to avoid King Ratsass-
Thank you again for changing my life.

Uncarved block, unbleached silk : the mystery of life

23 years of inspiration
"Uncarved Block, Unbleached Silk - The mystery of life" covers basic elements of visual design while serving to link these elements into basic aspects of life. Alan Watts presents some of the aesthetic principals underlying both Chinese and Japanese arts and along the way illuminates something of the Taoist and Buddhist philosophies that run underneath them. I'm neither a Buddhist nor a Taoist but the ideas explored in this book are still valid to my work as a designer. Half the fun of this book is that the terms don't belong to English so they often bracket concepts in unusual ways bringing new angles of view on common design principles. Watts also doesn't ignore visual design's ability to be meaningful to people at a deep level. His measured words on the relationship between visual aesthetics and the issues of living from one day to the next provide a balanced counterpoint to many of the works contained in the body of contemporary American and European design theory. I've been returning to this book over and over again since it was published in '78 and can't recommend it highly enough.

This isn't the fun stuff, but it'll get you there.
I learned long ago that putting in the work up front will pay off later. Scales now will mean great playing later.

So when I wanted to pick my guitar back up after a few years, I went looking for something that didn't sugar coat the whole process with some sort of easily palatable, faux music theory.

This book lays out the Major and Pentatonic scales in a comprehensive, easily absorbed way. Having everything laid out in a visual form makes the learning curve easier.

beautiful designed blocks for young children
We first saw these at a friend of our daughter's, and both we and our daughter were so taken with them, we wanted a set for her. They were kind of hard to find; after some long hours on the Internet, I was overjoyed to see them here.

AMAZING!
Dr. Joel Block and Diane Greenberg virtually explore unfamiliar territory in their research of women and friendship, a topic rarely written about. This self-help book contains invaluable information for women in search of answers concerning their own behaviors and how they affect the ability to make and keep friendships. As the need for better communication between the sexes is prevalent in today's society, WOMEN & FRIENDSHIP is also beneficial to men as it clearly shows the differences between the sexes and how they relate to one another. In addition, this valuable tool provides the necessary skills needed to improve such communication. With the help of Dr. Block and Diane Greenberg, many concerns regarding behavior are addressed, including "where" they originate and "why". With the human mind being considerably complicated, a great amount of knowledge is required in understanding its' complexity and for those untrained in psychology, the mind is shrouded in mystery and remains that way. WOMEN & FRIENDSHIP allows the reader an opportunity to learn about the human psyche and through a sensitive, non-intimidating approach offers encouragement to those who are truly working on becoming congruent through self-improvement. Being congruent or finding one's true "self" provides fertile ground for true intimacy between friends, therefore the enjoyment of long lasting friendships more opportune.
A DEFINITE WORK OF ART!
