Just Great!I absolutely love this book. The patterns are beautiful and very unique. I am a beginner and I never thought that I could make quilts like these as my first projects! Jodie describes everything you need to know to make a quilt, in her delightful easygoing way, with words and drawings. This makes it very easy to follow the instructions. There are over 36 patterns of flowers, butterflies, birds and more. The patterns are very beautiful and the colors are fantastic. I love the pictures of the patterns and the quilts they really motivated me! I am sure that both beginners and advanced Quilters will enjoy this book as much as I have and have fun making the quilts. It may even inspire you to design your own quilt with these patterns. What a wonderful book, thank you Jodie!

Layering traditional blocks to make unique quilts.McDowell takes traditional blocks, and layers and overlaps them, using color transparency, to create different depths and images. The depth and complexity is extraordinary; the templates and color charts are very helpful; and the author tells of the inspiration for each quilted wall hanging. You can choose to reproduce one of McDowell's offerings, or strike out on your own.

A seminal & scholarly contribution to Psychoanalytic StudiesPatterns: Building Blocks Of Experience By Marilyn Chambers (Adjunct Professor of Clinical Psychology, Michigan State University) traces how primary sensory and affective experiences coalesce into patterns which evolve to reflect a unique subjectivity on the part of every individual personality. These are life patterns through which we interact and affect one another beyond any overt physical connection or activity. Professor Charles draws upon case examples to illustrate and document these patterned experiences comprising life narratives. Of special not is the chapter devoted to "The Language of the Body: Allusions to Self-Experience in Women's Poetry". Patterns is a seminal and scholarly contribution to Psychoanalytic Studies reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

This book is must for every NPO's bookshelf.Ten years ago I moved from a senior management position to the Executive Directors office. If only I had had the benefit of the wisdon contained in Perfect Nonprofit Boards; Myths, Paradoxes and Paradigms. This 138 page book is packed with useful information. It is a "Primer" for governance and management of the Nonprofit Organization. The first five chapters lay the foundation for a thorough understanding of Nonprofit Organizations. This section of the book takes the reader from the forming of an organization and the development of the mission, through the tax and reporting responsibilities to the motivation to become a volunteer board member and the essential qualities of an effective Executive Director. Once the reader has digested all of this material, Dr. Block focuses on the Role of the Board and the Role of the Executive Director. He uses established myths about volunteer Boards to make clear that although this is a partnership, the Director provides critical leadership in determining what the organization needs from the Board, and in turn, what the Board members may expect from the Executive Director. The Director manages the organization and the Board supports and assists through their governance efforts. If the Board and the Executive Director have clearly defined roles and expectations, they can make a very powerful and effective Team.
I am sending copies of Perfect Nonprofit Management to several of my friends--both Board members and Directors of Nonprofit Organizations. This book is "must" reading for anyone interested in nonprofit management.

A superbly presented biography of an influential AmericanFrank Brady's The Publisher is the life story of Paul Block who was a newspaper mogul, advertising executive, and political apologist. The core of this comprehensive and meticulous biography is Block's involvement in the history of newspaper publishing and national advertising -- and his influence on the politics of his day which spanned the Gay Nineties, the Jazz age, and the years of the Great Depression. Biographer Frank Brady places Bock within the vivid and dramatic settings of his time as he re-creates the story of Block as a friend, advisor, or opponent of such men as Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Alfred E. Smith, Jimmy Walker, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Here also is the personal side of Paul Block's childhood as the son of an immigrant ragpicker who eventually came to live in an opulent suite at the Waldorf Towers and a mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut. The Publisher is a superbly presented biography of an influential American who lived through "interesting times".
