Block

This is a fantastic book which features patterns for 20 quilts. Using the old favourite "log cabin" block in miniature form, the quilts created can be machine or hand pieced. The quilts are great, especially the ones combining applique with the pieced "logs". Such a great book, I am going to find it hard to choose which quilt to make first...think I'll have to make them all. It isn't often that you find a book in which all the quilts appeal!

Beginning novel writers often need a roadmap to get from chapter one to The End. *Goal, Motivation and Conflict* by Debra Dixon is a practical and insightful manual for writing effective, cogent fiction. She takes you step by step through the writing process using her GMC method. She explains in detail how to create believable characters and events, how to sustain your narrative through multiple plot twists, and how to tie it all up in the end leaving the reader begging for more. Best of all she uses characters and plots from movies such as *The Client*, *The Wizard of Oz*, and *Casablanca.* This book gives you the tools necessary for crafting believable fiction. If that novel you're writing has disintegrated into nothing more than an unruly collection of word clusters, this book is for you. If you haven't started writing your novel yet, this book will save you from pulling your hair out by the roots.

An enjoyable, engaging read!! I highly recommend this book!

Well written medical suspense novel. I truly enjoyed it. Great book to read on vacation. I was totally engrossed in the story. Finished it in one day. I would recommend this to all readers who enjoy suspense thrillers. The characters were well developed and the book, although the first by this author is a success. Can not wait to read the next story from this author.

Get the chief executioner's tips on how to die. Read the Tudor Tatler, the newspaper of the time. Get the truth on how they dressed, what they did, what they ate, and...how they died. Read Henry's "Secret Diary". Be sure to read the "For the Chop" letters which tell the real storys on famous people who died because fat Henry lost his temper(quite normal, compared to other things he did).This first quality book is complete with HISTARICAL cartoon illustrations. This is a five-star quilting book.
In this book, many traditional blocks are broken down into their components and "new" blocks evolve from these components. When the new block(s) are combined with the traditional block, magic happens.
The best quilt books provide inspiration to the reader to move beyond just replicating a pattern to create her/his own works, and Lerlene Nevaril achieves this in Hidden Block Quilts.
I don't think I will ever run out of unique design ideas with this book in my quilting library!

A brief overview of many types of homes in several cultures, it includes a photo index that documents where the homes are located. It also touches on careers related to building homes such as painters, carpenters, architects. Would be a helpful book in the elementary grades for comparing different cultures' living styles, and the construction of homes.

Excellent Book!!! Finally a doctor who wants to prevent illness instead of treating the illness once it happens. We need more doctors like Dr. Block.

I first read The House on Pendleton Block over twenty years go. It was my first chapter book. I recently discovered it had been re-released and I was delighted to re-read it--remembering some of the characters and plot points as if I'd read the book last year. While the book's main character, Chrissie, seems to be written for girls, I enjoyed the book tremendously then and now. While Chrissie is not an only child, she is a loner who has a delightful imagination and keen insight. The vocabulary may be challenging for first and second graders, but I don't remember being confused way back when. The book is probably best suited to curious children with broad interestes in art, geography, gardening, friendships with the elderly, and architecture. What a delight to re-visit my first fiction experience!

This has been a very useful book. It will be useful for the beginner or the professional. As with many of Mr. Vizard's books, it easily understood and very detailed. I have already had very rewarding results and still have much more material to experiment with. The material is very practical and for the hands on enthusiast.
