Get your feet wet!
Never took a printmaking class in college...I've been carving erasers and wondering about this new world of relief printing. This book is wonderful.

Not too much information on complicated techniques. Enough info to have me working on new ideas. If you're beyond the commercial rubber stamps and/or are an artist hoping to incorporate printed images into
multimedia work...buy this book! Great reference! It'll fill in the blanks for those who have an art education but no basic printmaking.

Simple prints, excellent results
This book is aimed at relief printmaking without a press using a range of techniques from linocuts through to using found objects. The techniques are clearly described and are applied to a number of simple but attractive projects such as single pamphlet books. pillows or cards. The photographs are clear and helpful. I particularly liked the fact that Gwen Diehn went through the clean up process, which is often not covered in much detail, and that she used vegetable oil rather than the more noxious kerosene. Throughout the book are a number of inspiring examples by past and present printmakers which help to extend the processes described. Whilst this book is aimed primarily at beginners, it offers stimulus and information of use to the more experienced printmakers too.

Educational fun with Spot
"Spot's Favorite Baby Animals," by Eric Hill, is a delightful educational book for the smallest children. Spot, a friendly little dog, introduces the reader to several baby animals: a kitten, a lamb, a piglet, a chick, and more. The simple, colorful illustrations have a fun, cartoon-like quality to them. Spot, who appears on every two-page spread, is an appealing character.

Spot for Toddlers!
Not only does this book teach the animals, but the block size of the book is great for little hands and also for stacking on top of other block books. One of my 18mth olds favorites!

Spot's colorful world
"Spot's Favorite Colors," by Eric Hill, is another fun volume in the series of educational books featuring Spot, a friendly little dog. In this book, Spot introduces the reader to various colors. The simple, cartoon-like illustrations feature a red bicycle, a blue bird, a green leaf, and other concrete items. Spot appears on every two-page spread. Overall, a good choice for the smallest children who are beginning to get interested in books.

A HELPING HAND
"Short and Sweet!" In a non-threatening, "as-a-matter-of-fact" way, Dr. Joel Block and Fred Block, a Special Education high-school teacher, offer the reader ways to turn a negative human emotion into positive behavior. They successfully cover a topic that most of us have dealt with at one time or another--ANGER. Although this book was written with teenagers in mind, don't be fooled; young or old alike, can benefit from the information found in this instructional pocketbook-type of reader. The use of large font, familiar teenage dialogue and humor, encourages even the less avid readers to learn about themselves. Typical examples of anger-related incidents are enhanced by realistic conversations, surprisingly familiar to older readers as well as younger ones. Topics such as bullying, rejection, harbouring resentment and divorce are a few of many discussed. "BEAT YOUR HEAT!"

Refreshing
A subject that so many of us are all too familiar with whether we like or not. The fact of the matter is that everyone experiences anger, while some may explode others seem to have a grip on their anger. Staying Cool did just that, it helped me redirect my anger in a constructiver rather than abusive manner. This book uses real examples in which all teens can relate too.

Psychological Help on the Road to Holiness.
Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel, a Franciscan friar and author of "The Courage to be Chaste", attempts to give some spiritual answers to a few psychological issues. His basic thesis is that human psychological situations often considered stumbling blocks, can be changed into stepping-stones on the road to holiness. Our change of attitudes combined with Divine grace could be the means of change. He illustrates it with examples from real life situations through his personal experience of working as a psychologist and a spiritual director. It is a valuable book for anyone struggling with interior personal obstacles to growth in holiness.

The best self help book I have ever read
Many folks get the short end of things, born into a bad home, or with a health problem. Latter we can develop addictions or perhaps other serious psychological problems.

A simple answer, the traditional one, is that God knows what is best for us and our situation is what is best for our salvation. So, be happy in you handicap or addiction and go home?

Groeschel is far more healthy and holistic that that. Folks with big problems when they are young can quickly develop a host of related problems and even resentment toward God. Groeschel is faithful to, and integrates his two disciplines very well. Both his understanding of the wounded heart/mind and the understanding of the wounded soul. He uses experience of both together to help heal the reader when an emphasis on either alone would be ineffective. It is unique and powerful healing program that neither shirks the spiritual or psychological aspects but uses robust understanding of both to bring healing and wholeness to those who may feel overwhelmed.

Adult children of abuse, twelve steppers, those with health problems or even those who just do feel like they fit in will find in this book easy to follow step-by-step path to wholeness. Like all of Groeschel's books they transcend his Catholic Tradition, they are valuable tools for all looking for healing no matter what their background.

I would recommend this book not only for readers looking to help them selves but also those who minister to or work with clients with serious problems. Its complete approach is the best thing out there to help the "wounded."

A very inspiring and heat-warming book!
I had the unique opportunity to hear Shari Rusch speak at a high school graduation ceremony, and then I read her book. Everyone who has ever known anyone with learning disabilities should read this book. It was heart-warming and very inspiring. My problems seem very small in comparison to hers, and anytime I am discouraged, I will try and remember what she accomplished even with all those strikes against her.

This was a simply amazing book.
I have listened to Shari Rush talk as well as I have read her book and meet her. She is unbelivebly inspirational, just hearing everything she has been through showed me how bad people have it and how much we need to be there for them.

The Ultimate Wood Block Book: Castles, Bridges and Other Engineering Marvels
Published in Paperback by Sterling (December, 1988)
Author: Sam Bingham

Ultimate wood block book; building castles, bridges, etc.
This book will walk you through the making of an amazing set of several hundred blocks of several types. The work requires moderate woodworking skills, quality machinery for accurate cuts and, if you use clear pine or maple (recommended), at least $$$ in materials alone. It will take two or more days but the result is more than worth the effort. The little kids will just see too many blocks and probably should be limited in their access. Using the excellent illustrations, however, the older kids will see the makings of not just bridges and castles, but also of classical greek, roman, and gothic details. With or without parental participation, it can be quite a learning experience.

The Ultimate Wood Block Book
I am a woodworker and never thought there would be a book that could help me with making blocks. I was wrong, this is that book. This book gives plans on how to make blocks that can be used to make supension bridges, casles, etc. Blocks that even a young teen would get a kick out of using.

It also gives recommendations on how many of each block to build.

I helped a friend make blocks for his children and they came out great.

One downside to this book is that it calls out pine to build the blocks however the blocks in the pictures are made of maple or birch.

Another downside is that this book disappears. I lent my copy to someone and it didn't come back. I am looking for another copy.

The idea is that the death penalty does not deter crime.
The idea is that the death penalty does not deter crime.Countries such as Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, and Belgium have not carried out executions since the early part of the century, yet these countries have not experienced a rise in crime rates

surprising and inspiring
Many of my friends have read and suggested this books because of its great expressions of faith and how women are changing the face of religious leadership. They represent a new way of seeing God and a new community of leadership. Never before have so many women served the holy with earthly authority; it's a new paradigm and they might change the destructive and violent energy so prevalent in our time.

Authentic, exciting, substantial, celebratory
Freud asked what women really want. Rabbi Malka Drucker asks what both women and men want and need, spiritually, today. The answer is individual expression within a community, a fellowship, that supports each of us to bring goodness (divinity, God) into the world. The book functions as biography, history, and inspiration all at once, as it introduces the remarkable women--some widely known (Marianne Williamson, Dr. Elaine Pagels), some locally known (Dr. Nahid Angha, Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis)- whose stories it tells. I disagree with "Publishers Weekly" reviewer that Rabbi Drucker's personal comments are intrusive. To the contrary, they enliven and bring immediacy to the spiritual biographies she presents and encourage the reader to bring his or her own experience to meeting these leaders. Though the book could be used for study or the classroom, its personal approach is anything but "textbookish." It's substantial, accessible, authentic, exciting and celebratory. A must-read if you are investigating or committed to matters of the spirit.

Great for learning shapes and spacial relations
My daughter received this book as a gift when she was 2 1/2. She loves to do the puzzles and now knows all of her shapes, including trapezoid and hexagon. Very educational and fun.

Great introduction to some fun math!
We bought this for our 2.5 year old daughter and she loves it! It's great for finding patterns, learning shapes, sorting, matching edges, symmetry...there's a lot going on in this activity book. The pieces are solid and bright, and it's nice to have a storage container built right into the spine of the book. As a (former) math teacher, I'm thrilled to have this for my toddler!
