It's a Dino-Book!
I recently purchased The Mix and Match Book of Dinosaurs for my 6 year old grandson. He couldn't put it down. He absolutely loves it. He takes it with him in the car for both long and short trips. We had many laughs together while he created many imaginary dinosaurs. He shared this book with a friend who now has added it to his Christmas wish list. It was interesting to hear their comments as they created many unusual dinosaurs. He also enjoys learning about real dinosaurs from the illustrated chart of dinosaurs in the back of the book.

My three year old will not put this down!
We first saw this book in a doctor's office. My three year old has the names memorizes to these dinosaurs. while most of the tree year olds are raving about elmo or Buzz Lightyear, mine knows what a Tyranosaurus Rex is and will now name them when he sees it. Or a Stegasaurus or one of many others. It also lets his imagination roam as he makes up other dinosaurs and asks for help naming them. I think every child should have this book!

This would make a great TV movie of the week. . .
as the other reviewer said, it's "Body Heat" with an additional plot twist. Whoa, mama! I can't say anymore than that--you have to read it for yourself. Fortunately, it's a fairly quick and easy read. Lawrence Block can make you smell the grimy city one minute and have you basking in luxury the next. If you like his other books, you'll like this one, too.

well-written, well-plotted little tale
This book reminded me of the movie "Body Heat" where a black-widowish femme fatale lures an unsuspecting male into her web. Unlike that movie, however, this protagonist is just a little too sharp to be left holding the bag--not without a fight. That's the point this story really takes off, and the ending is a "gotcha." Enjoy. .

Wonderful source of quilt square ideas
I was so impressed with my copy that I bought another for my cousin for Christmas, who encouraged me to begin quilting by swapping quilting squares monthly. This will make a fantastic addition for her quilting library as well. The index allows for quilt square sizes, the beautiful diagrams and the measurements for cutting make this such a wonderfully simplistic way to learn or expand your quilting knowledge. I have also used it to make quilt squares for swaps at my local quilt club. Since it is a perpetual calendar, you use it every year. Five stars just isn't enough!

Pattern a day for inspiration and challenge
This perpetual calendar with a majority of pieced patterns for rotary cutting will delight any quilter. Inspiration for new projects, Block of the Month, and just a lovely place to rest your eyes. The paper and spiral are good quality and should last many years.

The Nature of Consciousness: Philosophical Debates

Almost everyone agrees that we possess consciousness, but as this book demonstrates, that's where the agreement ends. What can we say about the mind without fear of contradiction? Not much, and that's how the study of consciousness stands out from other scientific and philosophical endeavors--the field's great minds argue cogently with little common ground, and nothing is safe from questioning.

For the adventurous and thoughtful reader, this is a paradise on the frontiers of knowledge. The Nature of Consciousness presumes a basic familiarity with science and philosophy, as well as a willingness to think and read carefully. With articles by such bright lights as Daniel Dennett, John Searle, Patricia Smith Churchland, and even the great William James, it provides both a comprehensive overview of the field and in-depth analyses of such issues as the mind-body problem and how we can study a phenomenon that may not be observed directly. It is best read as an update on Western scientific and philosophical replies to one of the great questions: Who are we? Given the universal appeal of such a question, the reader will undoubtedly find much within to challenge, puzzle, frustrate, and delight. --Rob Lightner

Most comprehesive book out there on the topic.
This book is easy to review, and a no-brainer for people interested on consicousness studies. It is quite simply the most complete anthology on the philosophy of consciousness out there. Papers from William James, to Dennett, Searle, Block, Naegel, and over 50 others. Qualia, explanatory gaps, zombies, inverted qualia, some scientific papers, one of the best intoductions to the field out there.....700+ pages of consciousness, consciousness, consciousness....this is essential reading, and having for anyopne interested in philosophy of mind, and scientists of mind too...the fastest way to familiarize with the vast literature on the subject. The table of contents is reason enough to buy this book, and I will not bore you with more.

Of course, this is a must for those studying cogsci
It's a thick book and has lots of stuffs in it. Nearly all of most important philosophical works on consciousness in recent years are brought together in this single volume. Naturally, this is a textbook for graduate-level courses in cognitive science or philosophy of mind. And makes a quite nice source book for those who want to further their studies in artifical intelligence.

It does work!
I was very skeptical about this book when I ordered it, but my son had three ear infections by the time he was three months old. I was desperate. My pediatrician was already talking about tubes. Each day, I give him Dr. Block's massage. He has not had an ear infection in nine months. He has had colds and allergies, but he never develops an ear infection. No more sleepless nights or tummy aches from antibiotics. Thank you Dr. Block.

No More Ear Infections--It Worked For Us!
In this slim volume, Dr. Block not only explains what is wrong with the current system of antibiotic overuse for recurring ear infections, but also gives clear and concise steps for relieving and preventing ear infections in kids. Dr. Block gives nutritional guidelines, but more revolutionary is her osteopathic manipulation treatment--quick and easy massage movements to stimulate the child's own immune system and drain the fluids from the child's ears.

It seems so easy that it is hard to believe that these simple massages would have any effect. But, indeed, it really works. The times our child was on antibiotics, the ear infections went away and then came back quickly, with a vengeance. Since buying this book and using the techniques, our child has been infection-free and antibiotic-free.

Dr. Block is a genius and she's had experience with her own kids' terrible ear infections. This motivated her to come up with alternative techiques for curing ear infections. Now our children can benefit from her experience and expertise. Try it. Her advice is really effective, and all it costs you is the price of this book.

Lessons in dignity
This is by far one of the best books ever written on the Troubles in Northern Ireland. I'll say more, this is one of the best "political" books ever! For the first time, the incredible experience of Republican POW's during the "blanket" and "no wash" protests and the subsequent hunger strike is told by those who were involved in them. I cannot possibly convey all the emotions this book gave me. The overall feeling I received by reading these pages is one of anger and indignation at the callousness of the British Government led by Maggie Thatcher (whose name will never be cursed enough!). But I also felt proud for what these people achieved through their sacrifice and determination. Not only they refused to be labeled as common criminals when the treatment they were subject to showed the opposite, they also highlighted the true nature of the Republican movement. Whoever believes the IRA is just an Irish Mafia should think twice before saying such nonsense.Republican POW's showed once and for all that the aim of their struggle is not to gain money or power. They fight for freedom and dignity. Together with "On the blanket" by Tim Pat Coogan and "Ten men dead" by Peter Beresford, this book will give any reader full insight on one of the most beautiful and saddest pages of Irish history. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the H-Blocks Hunger Strike, so do yourself a favour and buy this book now!

Life in Long kesh as told by the prisoners.
"Nor meekly serve my time" is written by republican prisoners that talk about their experiences in the years 1976 to 1981. These were the years of the "dirty protest" and the hunger-strike that ultimately killed 10 people. These are their memories, not only of the 10 men that died but also about their own struggle and endurance. In the time of the book you will intimately know these people that fought so hard to regain political status in Long Kesh, which was denied by them by Margaret Thatcher. It is a very moving account and all the more so because these people actually sufferred through conditions that in the civil world we live in, they should never have to endure. As somebody who has read many books about Irish history but especially about the "troubles", this one stands out by far.

New Kids rocks!
I bought this book several years ago when the Kids were famous and popular. This is above all, the best book. The Kids wrote it themselves, and have loads of childhood pics of each other. It also talked about what it was like growing up, and how they got together. I've read the whole book several times, and I never tire of it. New Kids have always been #1 in my heart, and they always will be.

An excellent story, written in the boys own words
In most of thees New Kids books, the facts are not always accurate, but in this one they are dead on. This book was written by the kids, and tell each side of the story (from their point of view) It has some seldomly published pictues of the Kids and their famillies. Well worth the investment.

Quilting Made Easy: More Than 150 Patterns and Inspiring Ideas for Creating Beautiful Quilt Blocks (Davis, Jodie, Foundation Piecing Library.)

Fabulous for all foundation piecers!
Compared to most other foundation piecing books, this is a super bargain! Each block is not only pictured in fabric, but also in a full design so you can see what the overall effect will be once it is finished (which is great when deciding on fabric placement).

In addition, most of the blocks are shown in alternate arragements and have a 4" and 2" size to photocopy (which helps cut down on photocopying costs and design angst, as it reduces the amount of enlarging/reducing you have to do).

The designs range from very basic to the more complex, although there are not any extremely difficult ones. You may find some of the basics are repeats if you own other foundation piecing books, but the other hundred or so designs you won't have will make it well worth your while. This is a MUST HAVE for any foundation piecer's library!

Nice for the foundation piecer's library
This is a very good book on Foundation Piecing, but if you already own Davis/Schiffer's other three books in the Foundation Piecing Library, you do not need this one as it appears to be a subset of the three. ("Garden-Inspired...", "Hearts and Flowers..." and "Victorian...")

Rescuers: Portraits of Moral Courage in the Holocaust

True stories of moral courage and goodness
On the front cover of "Rescuers" are 12 photographs of some very nice looking people. They are pictures of people that you might meet every day; of friends and family, or someone that you might pass by on the street. They are the faces of very ordinary people, but they are also much more than that. They are the faces of people that risked their lives to save the lives of others during the Holocaust. They are the faces of the rescuers. There are many more photographs inside the book, of rescuers from countries all over Europe. Author Malka Drucker and photographer Gay Block interviewed and photographed the rescuers, seeking the heart of compassion and moral courage. They found that heart in men and women; the young and the old; and in people from all walks of life. Every story told by the rescuers is very moving. Some rescuers saved one person from death; some saved many thousands. All of the rescuers are worthy of the greatest respect and honor. The rescuers were sometimes asked the question of why they helped others to live, when so many other people stood by and did nothing. The rescuers would answer that question by saying that they were only doing what they knew was right. By caring for other people, they were acting the way that everyone should have been acting. One of the most inspiring truths found in the book, is the thought that we all have that same spark of goodness within our hearts, that was shown so nobly by the rescuers. We all have the capacity for doing what is right, even in times of the greatest fear and terror. This is a book that will warm your heart, and it is well worth reading.

A beautiful photo-interview essay on altruism...
This book is wonderfully formatted, arranged by geographic area of Europe. Each interview starts with black and white photos a person who helped Jews and other persecuted people during WWII. A personal narrative of that time in their lives follows, and each interview closes with a color photo of that person as they were in 1992 when the interviews were done. A complicated and moving picture of altruism emerges, and one gets a glimpse of how individuals chose to protect others at the risk of threat to themselves and their families.

An indispensable reference book for all theatre techies !
Working backstage? Asked by your local community theatre to pitch in doing props? Foolishly said, "Of course I can build a tree(Silly fool only God can)! Here are the helpful hints and clues that will point you in the right direction without looking like a total fool. Design, construction, lights and sound- Oren Parker has it all. This latest edition is my third copy! They just keep getting better and better. This "rumor" best explains the abilities of one of the authors. A colleague once related the story in which Oren Parker showed up in the university scene shop in a three piece suit, painted a full back drop and walked out without a drop of paint on the suit. I'd be interested in knowing how true this is but not any less impressed with how informative this book has been for me. Well worth the exorbitant price.

Invaluable guide for novices and professionals
I can't tell you how often I've found myself saying "I'm a carpenter, not a designer!" when asked to design a set. I've always muddled through, but now, with this book in hand, I've found 100% more confidence in my designs. Invaluable for the lighting designer who wants to better understand scenic design, and for the scenic designer who wants to understand lighting design. Buy it!
