I've read CR twice so I'm actually giving it 10 stars
I own a massive library of books on every imaginable collecting subject and none has given me more joy than "Chasing Rainbows". Barry Friedman has intertwined his vast knowledge of Indian blankets, American history, the antiques business and garnished the result with a unique sense of humor and breathtaking photos to create a book that is an absolute gem. This is a great book from a very gifted man.

Chasing Rainbows
I have never read a "coffee table book" cover to cover until I found Chasing Rainbows by Barry Friedman. This delightful, informative book pulls you in from the very beginning with humor and knowledge that prevents you from putting it down. I read it cover to cover in one sitting, an afternoon of sheer pleasure and factual understanding of the history and beauty of American Indian trade and camp blankets. I highly recommend this book for the pure joy of reading and understanding the history of a little known subject.

Tremendous!
I received this book as an early Christmas gift and now I'm buying a dozen copies to give to friends and family. This is the most beautiful and interesting collecting book I've ever read. The author is remarkably funny while delivering all the information on the subject anyone could possibly absorb. Just a fantastic effort.

What a wonderful gift for a woman's soul!
Mary's insightfulness of what it's like to be a woman, a human being, come through in simple, yet awe-inspiring words. Her poems moved me more than anything has in a long time. I want other women to discover the beauty and wisdom of Mary Waters. She's amazing!...

Absolutely wonderful!
The poems in "Sandpaper Blankets" are so easy to read yet full of images and feeling. You can read them several times and find more meaning each time. My most favorite are "Moonlight" and "Ain't No Sunshine". I would recommend this for everyone!

A Familiar Voice
Reading these poems is like staring into still water -- reflective, yet deep. While reading, I found myself saying, "Yes, I've felt that too!" Ms. Waters' poetry gives us language for the difficult and wonderous thing we call life. If I have to choose a favorite poem, it would be "Meetings." It should be required reading for anyone under the age of 30 -- and for most of us beyond...

A great book from my childhood !
I absolutely love this book. I received a copy of my own for my 4th birthday in 1981. I recently found it in my hope chest and read it to my boys. They loved it and had me read it over and over again. The story is about Tabby's journey to bring her beloved patchwork quilt back home after it has been thrown away.
Very few books stick with us for so many years and this was one of them.

This book should not be out of print!!!
Even if the illustrations weren't so gloriously detailed and cozy, this book would win you over with its satisfying story. The patchwork cat is drawn so lovingly that she almost shimmers from the page. Her adventure, which is just scary enough, and her rescue, which will make everyone cheer, are appealingly told from a kitty point of view. My two sons and I rank this as one of our very favorite books for younger children. Don't miss Bayley's illustrations in the truly wonderful story by Antonia Barber, The Mousehole Cat.

Great Childrens book!!
I really hope it gets put back into print!

Jane's Blanket
When I was a little girl, this was my absolute favorite book.My mother had to read it all the time. My mother gave it away and I kept pressing for her to get it back for me. My mother ended up buying it from a used book store and I know she paid quite a bit for it. I treasure this book and I always loved the pen and ink drawings too. I had a teddy bear that ended up in the same condition as Jane's blanket, and that's where I identified with the story. I had a hard time parting with that old bear. Now I have the book and read it to my two sons who also love it. It is a true feeling of attachment to a comfort item as a child and stays with you always in your heart. Iam so happy to have this book again.

Jane's Blanket
I remember this book SO fondly growing up. It was read to me for years and by me for years afterward. I had a pink blanket, too. I grew out of mine as well(sniff). When I had two girls of my own, I searched and searched for this book. Our local out-of-print bookstore told me it was rare and could go for several hundred dollars. This prompted me to bug my mom until she dug up my slightly battered, but complete copy from childhood. I read it to my girls, but wouldn't sell it for the world. Someday I'll have grandchildren. It's THAT good!

Wonderful book on growing up!
Jane's blanket was pink, and soft, and warm, and she loved it. When she was a baby, she would not play in her playpen without having the pink blanket there too, and she went to sleep every night touching it. Even when she got bigger and had her own bed, she would not go to sleep without her "bata". But as Jane got bigger and bigger, the blanket got smaller and smaller, until finally it was only a torn piece of cloth. Jane still loved her blanket, but now it was so small and torn she didn't know what to do with it, until one fine spring morning a bluebird on her windowsill made her glad she was so big and didn't need her blanket anymore.

This story is the world-renowned playwright's only work for children. His warmth and affectionate understanding of a child's prolonged need for a beloved object is charmingly reflected by drawings in two colors, black and pink, by Emily McCully.

Wonderful children's book with family values
"Jasper's Magic Blanket" is an absolutely delightful children's book. It tells the story of a mystery of epic proportions - How is it that Jasper is always tucked in under his blanket in the morning? He kicks it off, tries sleeping on the floor and a variety of other ways to see if he will always wake up all tucked in snugly. Jasper eventually solves the mystery and in the process finds out about how special it is to be loved.

An exceptional picture book with a beautifully written story that promotes positive family and self concepts, what more could you possibly ask for from a children's book.

Debbie Atwood is a skilled and clever storyteller
Young readers will follow Jasper along as he conducts several experiments that lead him to the conclusion that his blanket is magic! There are a lot of surprises in store for Jasper when he reveals his discovery to classmates, and how the classmates go about uncovering the secret to Jasper's magic blanket. Danny Gorden's illustrations are a key to young readers finding the clues to what Jasper's magic blanket is really all about. Debbie Atwood is a skilled and clever storyteller. It is strongly hoped that Jasper's Magic Blanket will only be the first of many more unique and charming children's books to come!

Beautiful book!
We purchased this book after our children began an art class with the talented illustrator, Danny Gordon. The illustrations in this book are beautiful! They're colorful, contemporary, and uplifting. My children loved the story. We especially liked the way he "sneaked" Bible verses into each illustration. It gave the book even more meaning. My children enjoyed finding the hidden verse references, and looking them up in their Bibles.

Many children can relate to having a special "lovey," whether it's a blanket or toy. What I really liked about this story was that it's not just the blanket that's special -- it's the love within the family. Read it and see for yourself. :)

We eagerly look forward to more books illustrated by Mr. Gordon.

Totally Awesome
I have read this book several times, and everytime I do, it never ceases to amaze me. The truths that are revealed in the book, are truely inspirational!! Why....you may be asking??? Because, only one who has truely been broken, can explain what brokeness means...and only then can you help another in such pain. You will find in this book, what it means to be a "Wounded Healer" Joyce opens her heart so beautifully, giving us a glimps into her unworld pain...and then showing us the true path of healing. Will you choose to find the root causes to your pain...and, will you choose to put away the security of your Blue Blanket...???

Very moving and realistic
Joyce is my favorite author. She is realistic in her writings, and you know she is human just like the rest of us. In this book she shares how she finally came to grips with her relationship with her earthly father and also shares some of the responsibility for why the relationship was not ideal.

Powerful and inspriational-I keep it by my nightstand.
A powerful personal testimony of suffering, deep healing and recovery. As usual, Mrs. Heatherley is able to verbalize all the fears, pain and soaring hope that is within today's woman. I keep it by my nightstand and refer to the book often. Truly a comfort and source of hope.

A celebration of nature and life
Tom Carney tells wonderfully descriptive stories packed with humor and honest emotion. For anyone who has ever owned a dog, fished a stream, experienced the comradery of "hunting season" or just reflected on life from their recliner, this book will fill you with the joy of these memories!

Great fireside reading
I've been a big fan of Tom Carney's writing since about 1986, when I ran across some of his witty, thoughtful columns in outdoor magazines. I was delighted when I found out that his columns and essays were being published in books. I rate SUN-DRENCHED DAYS, TWO-BLANKET NIGHTS and now his new one, BIRD-DOGS AND BETTY CAKES right up there with the best of books about the outdoor life, especially dogs, birds, hunting and fishing buddies, and generally trying to live a good life in difficult times. A darned good writer and he's funny too.

A rare and thoughtful look at the outdoor world
All too many columnists from smallish papers, particularly those who dwell in the world of hunting and fishing, feel they have the where-with-all to put together their columns over the past few years and call the collection a book. Seldom is it worthy of such a title.

Tom Carney is thankfully not one of these. A regular columnist for a variety of magazines and newspapers, Carney transcends the norm in Sun Drenched Days: Two Blanket Nights. Yes, the book does surround the outdoor experiences involved in hunting and fishing, but it goes well beyond the norm of "me and Sam in a boat stories".

Carney wears his heart at the the end of his pen while introducing you to the wonders of woodcock dancing on the western skies, of brook trout from clear cool waters and the companions he has had the priviledge to enjoy these with. And it seems it is the comraderie that he relishes most.

When I interviewed Carney he told me that he considers his work as simply stories. They are much more than that. This collection is a love affair of all things wild-the sweet mustiness of autumn leaves and the smell of a wet dog, of camp cooking and star-filled skies. It is a collection of people and places that have helped him to grow in appreciation of time afield and of the fleeting time he has had to share with friends.

Readers from Michigan have probably heard of Tom Carney. And while this collection certainly is Michigan-based, it does go well beyond the Wolverine State boundry. Carney will make you laugh, cry and remember. While you certainly have not been with the people he has, you have been with others of their caliber. It is the memories that his stories will rekindle in you that are most important.

Carney's book is something to be consumed while sitting in an overstuffed chair next to a fire. An English setter curled by your feet would be a nice finishing touch.

Sturdy with lots of interesting pictures
My one-and-a-half year old daughter loves this book. Even though she knows what is under each flap, she still flips each flap with excitement. There lots of pictures of common items, like a ball, banana, fish, etc... so the book is helpful in teaching and reinforcing new words. The book is has many pages and keeps my daughter's attention for a long time. It is sturdy and not a single flap has torn, in spite of her constant use. A+.

Great lift the flap book you'll love it!
This is one of my kids favorites, starring Elmo, Big bird, Zoe, Ernie, Grover, Grouch...It's not real long though, only about 5 pages. Great for little little ones. It has about 30 flaps.

lots to do on each page
My 14 month old loves his blankie and loves Elmo. I could't have asked for a better book. He loves the flaps to open and seems surprised when he looks under each one. If your child loves Sesame Street this will hold his interest every time.

Owen

The clinical name is transitional object, but for young children, a beloved blanket is more like a lifeline. And that's exactly how Owen feels about his baby blanket, fondly named Fuzzy. The Owen-Fuzzy relationship is cruising along smoothly until a nosy neighbor, Mrs. Tweezers, leans over the fence and asks his parents, "Isn't he getting a little old to be carrying that thing around?" With kindergarten just around the corner, Owen's parents wonder if he should in fact relinquish his prized Fuzzy. Kevin Henkes uses his signature mouse characters and jewel-tone watercolors to explore the antics and foils of one mouse-boy, one rag-blanket, and two parents wondering how to help their son kick the habit. This is what Henkes does best--playfully bringing childhood fears and feelings to the surface while portraying real-life parent-child tensions. Mrs. Tweezers, a real sourpuss, is no help at all. She offers terrible over-the-fence advice, such as dipping Fuzzy in vinegar (as if to cure a nail-biting habit) or stealing the blanket in the night.

It is not until the eve of Owen's first day of kindergarten that his mother hatches the perfect solution. Ultimately, she finds a way that Owen can hang on to his first true love while also taking the next step into middle childhood--a solution that suits everyone, including Mrs. Tweezers. How can we get Owen to give up his blanket?
This children's book is about a young mouse named Owen who keeps a yellow blanket, named Fuzzy, by his side all the time despite efforts of his parents to have him give it up. Finally, a solution is found just before Owen is to go off to kindergarten. Children (and their parents) who have their own blankets should really enjoy this tale. This book was a 1994 Caldecott Honor book (i.e., a runner-up to the Medal winner) for best illustrations in a children's book.

Blankie book
Owen (a mouse) has a wonderful blanket named Fuzzy. He takes it everywhere and Fuzzy enjoys everything Owen does, like peanut butter and bath times. A pesky lady who lives next door shares some ideas with Owen's parents about how to separate Owen from Fuzzy, but none of them work, and Owen and Fuzzy get to stay together. The story is rather fun, with a little tension, but no scary bits. The book has about 550 words.

I teach Pre-K and...
...I love this book! Once again the author Henkes created a loveble and real character that young children (especially ones with "blankies") can relate to!! I find "Mrs. Tweezers" (the nosy next door neighbor) absolutely hysterical as she constantly harasses Owens parents to get rid of his blanket... "Haven't you ever heard of the vinegar trick? The Blanket Fairy? Just saying no?" Owens mom ultimately saves the day in a way which even Mrs. Tweezers can't object! Owen is a book which children love... and adults don't CRINGE while reading!

You will cry, I promis.
I read all 590 some odd pages in a matter of 2 hours. It pulled me and and chewed at my heart and soul. I never cried while reading a novel in my life but Blankets did it.

What I find really amazing about the story is that this is no new idea. There have been a million movies and books about first loves. But some how Thompson executes this story of real life experience without being predictable and using cliches. And he doesn't just write about one type of love. This novel is about romantic love and brotherly love and spiritual love.

I don't think there is a single person in this world who can read this book and not feel connected to the experiences portrayed by Craig Thompson. And the amazment of it is that something so typical is made so not boring. This is one of those books that you read and read and when there isn't anymore to read you read it again.

Brutally honest, gorgeous book
This book fits into my newly discovered genre of graphic novels. How lucky I was to have read this book as one of my first graphic novels. At almost 600 pages, this book may be daunting for the reluctant reader. It may take some extra encouraging to have those students pick up this book. Yet once they do, they will discover one of the best coming of age books written in recent years.

It is a memoir about the author growing up in a conservative, religious family and his experiences and feelings. The book is so honest and full of feelings that it makes your heart break. I think because of the 1st person comic book layout, you're immediately drawn into the story.

This book would be great for reluctant readers who would probably think a big comic book is a cool read. Other students (and adults) would also enjoy it because of its simplicity and intensity that is lacking in many of the other coming of age books out there. I would recommend it to students who have expository writing projects to demonstrate both the different styles of writing and to give an exceptional model of a memoir.

Excellent read.
This was my first experience reading a graphic novel, and I absolutely loved it. I picked it up to look at it and couldn't put it down, finished it in two hours....and I could read it over and over again. I highly reccommend it. Male or female, I have a very close male friend who was the one who told me to read it. THIS is literature!
