Great resource for new and experienced teachers!
A book obviously written by a teacher. Ideas are clear for students to understand and assemble. One page directions with materials easy to find and prepare. Workable plans for huge displays that engage all students. Projects celebrate creativity at all abilities and provide students with art lessons that enhance seasonal themes. Extremely useful for the classroom teacher with artistic limits, that wants to introduce students to a variety of art media.

4 Years of Bulletin Boards By Kids and For Kids!
As an elementary teacher, I believed that bulletin boards should be made by my students and not me! I wrote Big Bulletin Boards with this concept in mind. Most of the boards within my book have been successfully constructed by students. Children will be introduced to 23 different forms of art mediums; while developing creativity and building self esteem. The boards are quick, easy, fun and creative for both boys and girls. What a wonderful way to teach cooperative learning! Big Bulletin Boards: A Cooperative Approach was previously published by Prentice-Hall, Inc. selling over 16,000 copies. I revised the book and released the Second Edition in 2001 under Hide and Seek Press. I hope you have fun making BIG bulletin boards with your students! I sure did and they became the "talk of the school."! *Note: This is a great book especially for beginning teachers, preschool/elementary teachers or librarians.

A "Must Have" for a Teacher's Library
Now and then, you have to invest in a book that pays big dividends in time and creative energy for you, as a teacher.
Karen Robbins has given us just such a book -- generously sharing nearly a hundred pages of bulletin board ideas for all the months of the year, including summer! We know that learning takes place best when we get children involved with all their senses -- what I especially like about this book is the "cooperative" in the title, because from now on bulletin boards will not be a teacher chore, but a child's delight! Thank You for this guide for those of us who are less artistically inclined!

A Childrens' Library Must Have
We started reading to our baby when he was just a few weeks old. This was the one book that stimulated his senses right away. The bright and contrasting colors captured his attention as an infant and now as a toddler, this is still his favorite book.

Excellent--A Must Have
My daughter loves this book. She has to have it at least once a day--if not 15 times. One of the first things she would do once she could walk was carry it to me so I could read it to her. As her vocabulary has developed she asks for it by name and loves to point out the things she knows the words for. And after having read it hundreds of times, I still find the art freash and amusing. How many children's books hold up to that test?

Yeah
My son usually can't sit still for long periods of time and this book is PERFECT. He loves my exaggerated pronounciation of the text and the pictures are big, bright, and appealing. His favorite book, by far!!

Maisy's Big Flap Book
Published in Board book by Candlewick Press (September, 2003)
Author: Lucy Cousins
Amazon base price: $8.99
Used price: $5.50

Maisy the mouse and her friends Cyril, Charley, and Tallulah have a busy day of gardening, painting pictures, cleaning the playroom, and romping at the playground. Young readers can lift the flaps--all 36 of 'em--to learn about numbers, colors, shapes, and opposites as the pals go about their day. What objects in the playroom match the shapes on the flaps? What color completes the pictures of carrots, whales, and grasshoppers? The oh-so-cute Maisy is a huge favorite with children, who watch her on TV and read about her in Where Does Maisy Live?, Maisy Goes to Bed, Count with Maisy, and many more titles by award-winning artist Lucy Cousins. Vibrant colors and bold black outlines set the tone for this cheery, interactive book about everyone's favorite mouse. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

16 month old Ayla and Maisy books
My grand child, Ayla, also enjoys this lift the flaps book. She is still discovering flaps she hasn't noticed as yet. I will difinitely order more of the Maisy books as they are a hit with her.

Awesome book
I got this book for my 16 month old 1 week ago and she has hardly put it down since. It has bright captivating illustrations, robust flaps that are hard to tear, and a different theme on each page. The themes are ones from real life (counting bugs in the garden, colouring different objects, putting different shaped toys away in the playroom, and doing opposites in the playground) and the way the flaps teach the concepts is ingenious. My baby is particularly crazy about the opposites page since when you flip the flaps Maisy goes up and down the slide, Cyril swings high and and low on the swing and Charley dumps a bucket of sand into a truck, all activities she's crazy about herself. Flipping the flaps and seeing the results has her mesmerized. I can't say enough good things about this book!

my 3 year old loves this...has enjoyed this book for months
Cute book. Really big. Lots of little flaps to open. Lots of fun things to talk about (if child is speech delayed and you are looking to teach vocabulary interactively)...Concepts up/down and wet/dry are shown very effectively with flaps...Lots of good chances to say "where is....?" and open flaps to find. If your 2-3 year old likes Maisy, this is a good book ...

My 11 month old loves this book
This has been my daughter's favorite book for the last month, and there is no sign of it ending. She will search through her shelf of books and somehow find this one to pull out. And I'm going to give away the ending... It has a really nice mirror on the last page - she loves to stare at herself and then flip back through the pages to the other babies. She loves it so much that I am about to buy a second one - a couple of the pages are already tearing! A must have!

A wonderful book for all children.
This beautiful, rythmic book is perfect for a child of any age. My son fell in love with it when he was only 4 months old. He still reads it daily. This book is a treasure!

Every child from infant to emergent reader will love it!!
We have had this book from infancy, Quinn is now two years old and still requests the "baby book". The rhymes, multicultural pictures, and surprise at the end make this an enjoyable book for us all to read. This has become our standard baby gift and is much loved by all who recieve it.

BIG & Little : Board Book
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Company (01 April, 2001)
Author: Todd Parr
Amazon base price: $4.99
Used price: $4.59
Buy one from zShops for: $3.30
In a child's world, there are big things and then there are little things: big tree, little leaf; big cake, little cookie; big mommy, little baby. Todd Parr's BIG & little, an adorable companion volume to another study in opposites, Black & White, celebrates size. Just small enough for a toddler to hold, and tough enough to withstand toothy attacks, this little board book is full of big ideas. Young readers (or viewers) compare trucks to tricycles and skyscrapers to doghouses as they identify boldly drawn objects against bright, colorful backgrounds. Simple, childlike illustrations appeal to young eyes, never detracting from the task at hand. Each two-page spread shows a big something, with the word "BIG" printed on top and the name of the object below, and a little something, with "little" above, the name beneath. Children will marvel at the different contexts: a banana can seem huge when compared to tiny peas, just as an elephant looms mightily over an ant. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

An ideal first book
This was one of the first books we showed my daughter, and it quickly became her favorite. From about 5 months to 8 months, she smiled happily every time we showed her the simple contrasting images in Todd Parr's little book. I highly recommend it for new babies.

Great first book
We started reading this book to our son at about 3-4 months. He loved the simple words and drawings, but I think the colors really got him. He started turning the pages after a short time. It's a nice small board book; the perfect size for little hands. He's 10 months now and still loves it even though it's well chewed. This book really got his attention at an early age and he loves all sorts of other books now. This book is now one of my standard baby gifts.

Another winner from Todd Parr
I bought this book while visiting my parents during Christmas. We realized that our 1-year old son did not have enough to keep him occupied (this was prior to Dec. 25). We already own "The Okay Book" (which I also highly recommend) so we're partial to Todd Parr and his style (childlike drawings on pages with vibrant, contrasting colors). "BIG & little" was an instant hit with my son, who was carrying it around with him before we even left the store. It's a great mix of contrast and repetition, with each set of pages showing two similar items (vehicles, foods, animals), one drawn on a large scale (banana) and the other on a small scale (peas). Our son has been flipping through the book frequently ever since we got home. The thick board pages are durable and it's small enough for him to hold easily in his car seat as well. While he isn't exactly "reading" it, the concept of big and little is being reinforced nonetheless. Many of Todd Parr's books are good. "BIG & little" is no exception. Buy it - you and your child won't be disappointed.

Wonderful book for any age group
I am not a child development expert, so I cannot give the technical reasons why my kids become so engrossed in these books. I can say this: both my daughters have loved all the books in this series (including "All Fall Down", "Say Goodnight" and "Clap Hands") since they were infants. It could be the soft oversized illustrations of babies engaged in familiar activities. It could be Helen Oxenbury's gentle rhymes. We were first introduced to Helen Oxenbury's books when the newspaper ran a list of "Must Have" books for different age groups. "Tickle Tickle" was recommended for infants and toddlers, but my oldest (almost four) still takes them out and stares at the pages. She has now memorized the words and "reads" them to her younger sister. I highly recommend all the books in the series, especially "Tickle Tickle"--a perennial favorite around our house.

Big pictures for your child's short attention span!
We checked this book out from the library. Three weeks later, when we had to return it, we turned around and bought our own copy.

Why? Well, our son LOVED this book. It surprised us, because the book only has 4 pictures in it. But that doesn't seem to matter to him. He asks us to read the "Tickle Book", as he calls it, over and over again. And he smiles and laughs all the way through it.

So what's in the book? Well, the first 2-page picture has 3 toddlers playing in the mud. Each child is doing something different, so there is a lot to look at on the page. The next 2-page picture shows the toddlers having a bath. At this point, our son starts chanting "bathie, bathie," and looks at us with eyes that say he wants to have a bathie too. The next 2-page picture shows the children getting their hair brushed (except for the one child with no hair). Since this is another activity our son enjoys, he laughs at this too. The final 2-page spread shows the toddlers getting tickled. At this point, it is a good idea to tickle your son/daughter. I know our son certainly enjoys it!

This book has some nice features. Each of the three children are of a different race, so your child gets exposed to racial diversity. Also, the book is oversized, which makes the large pictures that much more cinematic, kind of like a wide-screen movie, only in book form. And finally, the images in this book are simple, yet playful. What I mean by this is that there isn't a lot of detail per page, but the detail you do see is interesting enough to pull your child right into the book.

In short, we highly recommend this book because it seems to be able to keep our son's attention for long periods of time. And hey, if a book can keep a toddler's attention for more than five minutes, there has to be something special about it, doesn't there?

We love Helen Oxenbury!
Her illustrations are so beautiful. The babies are simply adorable, and all the books in this series are fantastic. Simple phrases coupled with the colorful, down-to-earth pictures spark the imagination. I plan to search out more of her work right now!

This book is wonderful
I have a 21 month old girl and she just loves this book. It is very colorful! She has learned many new words from this book. It covers everything......body parts, clothing, every day activities (dressing, sleeping, bathing), foods, animals, things that are found in the garden, and farm animals. Get this book for your child!!!!

Great Simple realistic Pictures!
I bought this book for my son who was 6mos and he loves it to this day. The pictures are big, simple, and real. Much better then the Cartoon books like this. The big cardboard pages are easy to turn for little hands and very durable. I would recomend for 0-3 years.

Children love the big and colorful pictures !
This is a great book for children who are just starting to talk. This is not for 4-8yrs as stated, but 0-3yrs. My son loved to look at the colorful pictures and ask me what they were.

Just Wonderful
Goodnight Moon gets all the hype, but I like Big Red Barn even better. This is a simple story about all the animals who live on a farm and the things they do during the day. No humans are anywhere to be found in this tale. The illustrations are simple and sweet. My 8 month old daughter just loves this book! It's very soothing for bedtime, especially because at the end of the story, all the animals go to sleep in the barn. Wonderful!

Wonderful story for children and adults alike
This is one of Margaret Wise Browns best books, Children of any age will love it. The text flows beautifully without being too silly and the illustrations are great for children learning their animals. We've had this book since my son was ten months old and it is still one of his most favorite books, and even after reading this a million times it is still one of my most favorite childrens stories. How did I miss this one as a child?

Love this book!
My son loves this book! We've been reading it to him since he was 4-5 months old and he turns 1 next week and he still wants us to read this to him every day. I could probably recite the book word-for-word by memory from reading it so much, but the illustrations are so cute and it makes my son happy, so I will probably never get tired of it. I highly recommend this book!

Photographs of NFL stars showcasing the differences between big and little, off and on, and over and under (just to name a few) help kids learn the concept of opposites. A particularly wonderful image of Terrell Davis leaping over a Bengals defender effectively illustrates the concepts above and below, while KC lineman Will Shields and Minnesota QB Randall Cunningham demonstrate the difference between wide and narrow. Grownups may enjoy this more than children, but the sturdy pages allow NFL Big & Small to be enjoyed for years to come. (Baby to preschool) --Sunny Delaney

Football is Educational.
Using various NFL players in a variety of action and non-action poses, this book introduces young children to opposites. Big & small; narrow & wide; over & under; off & on; and various other opposites are shown. Adults may enjoy this book more, trying to identify the different football stars (some who have left the game) who are pictured in the book (some include Terrell Davis, Will Shields, and Randall Cunningham). However, youngsters who enjoy football will probably learn a thing or two from this book, too.

For little guys that are into football its a big hit
my son loves this book, and its a perfect size for in the car and to throw into diaper bags. It has cute examples of opposites and great pictures of a lot of familiar football heros.

A football book that is truly educational!
My son loves anything having to do with a ball. He brightens at the sight of any ball. So, when we read this book together, he pays very close attention and loves to try to find the football in every picture. But beyond the fun, my son has learned the words: hello and goodbye, empty, on and off and others. We have other opposites books, but because this one has bright colors and of course footballs scattered throughout, I really think he learns faster from this one. He definitely has more fun reading it. I highly recommend it as a learning tool as well as a fun book.

Big dog and little dog are the BEST!
My son loves these books, and I must say this is one of my personal favorites. If you have a toddler you must get this book. You cant help but smile each time you read it and your child with love it.

A Must Have For All Toddlers!
My daughter is 15 months old and LOVES this series. Although I do not think it is the most exciting book (and she has tons!) kids LOVE it. The pictures are simple but colorful and the text is easy for her to understand. She picks out this book night after night. I would very highly recommended any of this series.

Great book for small children
My daughter loved the book and could identify the big dog and little dog and chose the book each nite to read. She is only 1 1/2 and it is a hardy book for little hands.
