I enjoyed reading this well researched biography of Sir John George Bourinot. I have used, on occasion, Bourinot's Rules of Order in meetings and this book brought to life for me the historical character behind the original rule book. The biography is well written, with extensive notes, and covers mainly the Victorian age. It was interesting to find he wrote some fiction and had a life outside of his duties as clerk of the House of Commons as a founder and long time secretary to the Royal Society of Canada.

The author is well versed in the various constitutional, historical and developmental aspects of Canada as a nation during the 19th century and wove these into the biography. She provided details on some of the constitutional problems that Bourinot was asked to solve and how he took an interest in procedure in other type meetings outside of parliament. Overall, a very satisfying and educational read.

This book is a wonderful introduction to the rain forest and poison dart frogs for children. The story takes you through the life of a strawberry poison dart frog (my daughter Jessie's favorite frog) from egg to adult. The story is excellent and the pictures are fantastic! I have been to La Selva twice so I can say that the story and pictures are realistic. A picture quiz at the end of the book will keep your eyes open for other rain forest wildlife living in the pictures of this wonderful book. I instruct environmental education programs and use this book often. Enjoy!

There are directions and other info for finding and visiting lighthouses. They do not always show all lights for a given area. The photos are all color. I own 3 of these books. There are not many other guide books out there so if you are looking for guide books these are good to have. Since there are so many books in this series I thought I'd help people find them easier. This is the series.

First, this book is chocked full of Bruce Roberts' beautiful photographs of the lighthouses in this region. The photographs are nothing less than SPECTACULAR! Combined with the revised and updated information on each makes this regional lighthouse guide a requirement you won't want to be without whether you're visiting the region or a life-long resident. The text contains full, rich descriptions of each lighthouse, too.

I have many lighthouse books and all of Bruce Roberts' and Ray Jones' regional guides. I've read them all and used most of them while traveling. I've found them to be first rate, an excellent choice for people who want everything lighthouse between two covers. A joy to look at and informative to read.

K. Woody has done a masterful job of explaining the two banking systems of mature capitalism and changing socialism. She relates them to each other in a way that allows the reader to understand each in the context of the other. It is interesting and well written. The book is a must for those attempting to understand where mature and transforming economies juxtapose. Readers, including investors in Russia, need to read the book to understand the mindset of the transforming economies in their relating to their new "market" economies. Some transforming economies have done better than others. Some are becoming full market economies, some are hybrids and some may revert to old systems. This book is important for those who are dealing in any of the transforming economies because it will tell you what to look for in underlying operation principles and mentality.

these 4 vols. are all you would need if you are a collector of amer, obsolete currency. these are the only books you need to excel in the hobby of obsolete currency. the best. 5 stars

I was fortunate to find this book at an estate sale, and found it to be one of the best accounts of El Paso, Texas history I have read. Do you think El Paso has a water problem now? Think about turning on your tap and getting sludge. What did those 'boys' do down in the basement and back rooms of the bank? The founders of The State National Bank were major movers and shakers of early El Paso. But they were far from dull boys. Not only were they entertaining characters themselves, they were instrumental in mentoring a number of intriguing, prominent El Pasoans. I expected a dry read, but should have known that Sonnichsen didn't know how to write one. I especially liked the book in the phase of El Paso history before 1950. If you can find a copy of this book, and you are interested in El Paso history, grab it. It is a great read.
