This is a book to buy only since so little on this is available elsewhere. Many of the photos are very dark, hard to see detail in them. Not many of this unique flying boat were made, less than 500 of all varients.

There should be more, clearer line drawings to show the aircraft, its turrets, variations in types. There is only 1 color photo, that is on the back. The author doesnt tell you how this plane compares to its US competion, the PBY Catalina or Japanese flying boats.

I would guess that the quality of photos is poor since so few were taken of these birds in WWII and there is not much to choose from. As long as you understand this when purchasing this book, you will not be disappointed. I bought it solely to have some source material on this plane.

This is the best book that can be found on this subject, which is not the same as this is a very good book, but I doubt that there will ever be a much better book on this aircraft. When it appeared in Germany as "Bv 138, der Fliegende Holzschüh", the German publisher Podzun Verlag had tried to get all remaining photographic material. They didn't use all available drawings though, you can find some additional ones in books as "Warplanes of the Third Reich" or "Warplanes of the Second World War, Volume five, Flying Boats", both by William Green or in "German Aircraft of the Second World War", by J.R. Smith and Antony Kay.
But you won't get much more information from those books on this plane, and hardly any extra good photograph.
On the whole I would say that with a bit more unit history and a good colour art section this book might earn its fifth star.

Has usually Nowarra surprises us, with another not so much knowned WW2 Luftwaffe aircraft: BV 138, one of the main seaplanes used in such wide opeartions that it was to become the most effective of all seaplanes used. It performed well during the polish campaign, during the atlantic battles, on to the final days of the war when one of them managed to fly from denmark to berlin, landing on a lake and flying back to base filled with wounded. A must have to those enthusiasts not fcused on the main types.

In keeping with other Schiffer "picture" books it's a good photo resourse for this huge seaplane. Rare shots included are: Bv 222 in winter camo & short lived underwing gondolas for gunners. Some pictures are of poor quality, but all in all a good cheap find! Would have been a 5 star with cutaway drawings.

This book consists of reports, which describe the state of the ASP market about a year ago. While writing my diploma thesis about this topic, I had to realise, that this topic loses its actuality rather quickly as the only constant element in the ASP market is change. The book focuses on so-called First-Generation ASPs putting most business emphasise on quick market presence. In the meantime the market has matured leading to 2nd and 3rd Generation ASPs, which qualifies the reports contained in this book as partially outdated basic knowledge. Today, potential ASP customers and providers use far more complex strategies to utilize the ASP concept.

I purchased this book looking for an overall, logically flowing picture of the ASP concept. While the content is valid, I was disappointed to find that it was just a collection of publicly available white papers and industry articles. The book is smaller than I thought - only 300 pages, and it contains advertisements for various vendors (the only color sections of the book). There are many graphs and pie charts that are useless because the different segments are all different shades of gray, and I think that it is far too much to spend for what seems to be a collection of white papers an intern could assemble after surfing the web for an afternoon.

I don't agree with mr Brian Madden. I can image why there are some ads in the book, but they did help me to reach and to get in touch with these vendors. The articles are clearly whitepapers, casestudies and reports of research companies and the are not commercial in my opinion, they only inform you of the several options. The HOTT Guide gave me an objective idea of the possibilities of ASP for my company, although I already knew some of it.
