Splendid!
An extremely wonderful book, and a must-have for all die-hard Nightmare fans. Aside from the new special edition DVD of the film, this will give you all the behind-the-scenes info that's readily availible to the public. The book tells everything about Nightmare--from the poem Burton wrote while at Disney, to the credits of who worked on the movie.

AWESOME BOOK
I got this book for my husband and it's a must have for fans of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman. The book contains beautiful photographs and drawings that made this movie come alive.

Truly Remarkable!
Dr. Ben Gallagher's account of WWI is one of the most compelling books I have ever had the pleasure to read. Between his medical background, self-reflection and observation this is perhaps one of the most complete views of war and humanity ever committed to paper.

Inbetween his own story, Dr. Gallagher also relates the stories of the people around him, including one of the most remarkable escapes from a POW Camp I have ever heard. He also includes the stories of his patients whose courage is both humbling and inspirational.

I am grateful that this account was published and I am only too sorry that more readers have not found this hidden treasure. Don't miss out. This is one of the best personal accounts you will ever find!

A treasured addition to any library.
Gallagher's memoir is a combination of clinical observation and vivid prose which provides one with a unique view into the March 1918 Offensive which should become a classic of that nearly forgotten generation. His detail and imagery are phoenominal. Factual in the extreme, his reference to the obscure 12th. U.S. Engineers of Missouri railroad men only serves to enhance the credibility of his experience. I have not, yet, seen a medical memoir of any war to compare. We are fortunate that this account has been published rather than lost in the archives of some facility.

absolutely fantastic
dr gallagher's second book reflects a remarkable talent as a story-teller. In Cellars, he makes the reader feel like a member of the family as he relates the tale of his grandfather's experiences in World War I. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to his next story.

Clement C. Moore's beloved poem about Santa's arrival on Christmas Eve has been illustrated by hundreds of artists since its first publication in 1823. Two collectors of antique children's books have selected a variety of these charming pictures from Arthur Rackham, Jessie Willcox Smith, Thomas Nast, and other renowned children's illustrators of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most of the images are from versions of the poem; a few are from antique postcards or magazines. Source notes for all the illustrations are included. Santa is dressed differently by each artist, but he is always "chubby and plump--a right jolly old elf" who brings joy to all good little girls and boys. This attractive edition of The Night Before Christmas will be enjoyed most by collectors of children's books or lovers of things Victorian. Youngsters who are already familiar with the poem will delight in comparing the different old-fashioned Santas and the children of long ago "nestled all snug in their beds." A charming holiday gift to leave under the tree on Christmas Eve for anyone who believes in the magic of Santa Claus. (Ages 5 to adult) --Marcie Bovetz

The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Tasha Tudor
I discovered this book 31 years ago, for my daughter and it is still loved by all the family. The illustrations are wonderful, warm, charming and delightful and bring a special meaning to the story. We still read it to all the young children on Christmas Eve and for adults we read the story and pass a grab bag gift every time the word THE is mentioned. It would not be Christmas without this book. It is magical.

A beautiful edition, to give as a gift
We have an inexpensive paperback version (see our reviews) of this classic poem, and we said that's enough for us. That was before we looked through this beautifully illustrated (by Bruce Whatley) edition of The Night Before Christmas.

The lyrics are the same, from book to book, but the fanciful illustrations in this one are enough to engage adults and children as they read this book together.

The perfect gift for any family whose Christmas tradition includes reading this classic!

Excellent artwork! And what child doesn't love this story!
Each page in this book is definitely a piece of art! Mary Engelbreit outdid herself on this one. I initially checked it out from our local library and then decided I wanted it for our girls. It's a book I want them to be able to read to their own children one day! I would definitely recommend it!

A different view on past lives
I found "You Have Been Here Before" in a used book shop, while on a weekend trip... Upon returning home I couldn't put the book down! Having read almost the entire thing in one sitting, I must say it was an enjoyable piece of literature. I have read many books on past lives, but this one was different. The author's focus is on how events in our past lives influence our behaviors (even mental health!) in THIS lifetime. It was fascinating to learn of real cases of people being overly affected by traumas in an entirely other lifetime... and thouroughly different from the usual focus of books on reincarnation.

There isn't much exploration of the afterlife, but only of the effects of past events on our present lifetimes. That is what makes this book unique... to view the metaphysical world through its influence of the world of psychology.

Dr. Fiore's writing style is very casual, making the reader feel as if she is TELLING the stories, and logically arranged. She even renders the transcripts of her hypnotic regression sessions easy to follow... that's no small feat, as all to often such material can leave a reader confused. In all, it is not a challenging book, but one that is easily understood, yet thought- provoking.

The cases were obviously well researched, seeing as she personally obtained the material from her patients... and verified it through the effects upon their lives and mental states. Therefore, there is no need to bog down the readers with tireless historical data, as some authors do, since the focus is on verification through the psychological effects on her patient.

Many Fascinating Stories Of Past Life Therapy
Dr. Fiore is a psychologist trained in traditional treatment methods and later in hypnosis. She began to use hypnosis to treat clients and one day she asked a client to go back in time to the origin of his crippling sexual problems. To her surprise, the client jumped back into a life as a seventeenth century priest. The patient and Dr. Fiore explored this lifetime, released the sexual issues and the patient made a startling recovery that traditional therapy had not given him. Dr. Fiore does not try to disprove or prove the theory of reincarnation in this book. She merely tells the fascinating stories of her patients and their recovery using past life therapy.

Awsome Book
This was a wonderful book. If you are unsure of reincarnation and are looking to learn more go with this book. There are real life accounts of Ediths patients in dialog form. Easy to read and get into. This book made me a firm believer. Even if you don't believe in reincarnation is a great book to read to gain insight in to these beliefs.

For modelers and historians
This book provides, in the usual Osprey Battles format, a nice overview of the first great battle fought by the BEF in WWI. There are plenty of black and white photos, as well as color drawings featuring uniforms, armament, and so on.

If you are a modeler, you could add Osprey's THE OLD CONTEMPTIBLES for a more complete vision of the BEF, and THE GERMAN ARMY 1914-1918 for an "other-side-of-the-trenches" view.

Rapid Fire!
This book recounts the truly amazing Battle of Mons in 1914, of the heroic British rearguard actions against the German invasion of Belgium and of the devastating effectiveness of the British "fifteen rounds a minute" rapid fire, which was mistaken for machine guns by the Germans.
Although it was seen as a defeat on the BEF's (the "Old Contemptibles") part, because in the end they have to evacuate the area and pull back, it was a tactical victory for the British, for they have checked the German advance and had bought enough time for many Belgian troops to regroup and to fortify their defences.
Written in an understandable way, the book is illustrated with excellent colour battlescenes painted by Ed Dovey.
This is a highly reccommended book that should be bought by anyone interested in the early (and mobile) phase of the Great War.

Even for Osprey, Very Weak
Osprey books are, by their very nature, a compromise between the wide scope of their subjects and the detail they attempt to bring to uniforms and appearance of their subjects. They often serve as a very good introduction to a military subject and provide insight otherwise unavailable to an interested reader. Readers who know Osprey understand and accept this compromise -- especially in a 64-page volume.

"The Old Contemptibles" (TOC), however, accomplishes neither a broad overview nor pointed detail. It addresses the British Expeditionary Force (BEF)of 1914 and it precedent years beginning in 1902. Its scope is so broad that it only mentions the highlights of the 1902 Army and it reforms, the overseas Army, the home based reserves, and the planning for and creation of the BEF.

The BEF's actions in France and Belgium are essentially addressed in a one-line chronological list of actions. Several examples of brigade level actions follow, but they are placed in almost no context. The BEF Order of Battle is not mentioned and there is no feeling of the committment and grinding destruction of what may have been Britian's finest fighting force. The author often mentions the quality of the BEF and does provide some background in the genisis of that quality, but its base in the regimental system in scarcely addressed.

The uniform plates are adequate. Again, they cover 12 years of evolution and the entire globe in geography and barely scratch the surface. Once more, context is nearly absent.

I conclude that the scope of the volume was simply too wide for the standard Osprey approach. The subject would have been much better served as two or even three volumes. With the exception of the color plates and several excellent B&W photographs, I cannot recommend TOC as an introduction to the BEF. The text certainly does not meet any reasonable standard.

Good for modelers, brief for historians
From the point of view of a modeler, this book is a great source on all details about the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) in WWI. It has plenty of (black and white) photos as well as the usual Osprey center color plates, with complete explanations at the end. For historians, it's a bit too thin, but for modelers it comes out great.

You could add Osprey's "MONS 1914" for a more complete view of the BEF.
