Golden Books PLEASE reprint the Fourteen Bears!
What a great memory from childhood. The story and illustrations will stay with you for a lifetime. I havn't seen a copy since elementary school but I can still remember the bears in their treehouses and skating on their pond and playing in the Sun. I can't say enough about the book. I hope Golden books reprints it soon so I can buy it for my daughter and my seventeen neices and nephews. It is a classic book that every child should have. My hats off to Evelyn Scott and Virginia Parsons for putting together such a great book.

Fourteen Bears: Summer and Winter
I still remember the winter night (1974) I was Christmas shopping for my little girl, Nicole, and fell in love with the book at the Sears store in Albany NY. It was late and crowded at the store, but I talked my friend Erin into waiting while I stood in line to buy it. We had time to look at it more in line and Erin bought two for gifts and so did a Dad in line with us. (Oh my, where are those three books now!) It was spectacular. My son, Michael, found the imaginative tree homes and adventures just as enthralling 10 years later for yet another ten years. Child and parent alike can envision continuing stories of the bears after they are nestled in their respective tree homes after a slippery and slidey trip to the pond in winter. It brought memories to me of a trip to a remote summer cabin and a swimming hole from the '50s in the foothills of Virginia. I could smell the mud and feel the sun. The illustrations carry such color & detail neither child nor adult tire of this book and the adventures of the bears. My son is 15 and misses our now lost copy, and my daughter searches from Boston for a copy of her own. What a tribute to Evelyn Scott! How does one get a publisher to reprint such a wonderful book as this? There is no question. It must be done.

The Fourteen Bears in Summer and Winter
I received a copy of this wonderful book from my godparents in 1974 on my fourth birthday. My own daughter will be turning four later this month and I was delighted when I happened upon the book while packing for an upcoming move. We read it together and she (and her 5 year old brother) were captivated by the details in the illustrations. It is so colorful and lively! They each identified with a different character and enjoyed the different styles that each one expressed. I came to Amazon to order one for my 3 year old god-daughter and am disappointed to find it out of print. I hope it will resurface!! I would order a bunch for gifts -- and of course another for my own daughter.

Suspenseful without being scary
The Little Mouse book has a wonderful interplay between the reader and story as it introduces concepts of sharing and how to deal with the threat of a bully.

Delightful, clever, and fun!
This is one of my 3 year old son's favorite books. The illustrations are GREAT; I recommend the larger hard cover book. This book starts with "Hello little mouse, what are you doing?", as you "catch" the mouse picking a strawberry. The adult gets to enjoy the mischief of the narrator, who tricks the mouse into sharing and eating the strawberry by convincing the mouse that the big hungry bear is on the way to eat the strawberry. The finer point that there probably is no bear is not necessary for the child to understand to enjoy and participate in the story. My son enjoyed from the age of 2 the clever ways in which the mouse tries to hide the strawberry, and always acts out his part of taking his half of the strawberry and eating it.

Pictures Make this Story - The Strawberry Seems Edible
Both my kids loved this book and I have given it to lots of people. I like the big hardcover because the pictures are so great (although the smaller Board Book is nice). In The mouse offers up the strawberry to the reader to share, and even Mom and Dad feel like they ought to take a piece. Simple story - and although the narrator tells the mouse he ought to take care of his strawberry or a great big hungry bear will eat it, my kids were never scared.

please finesh the series soon
the clan of the cave bear lay around our house for several years. i passed it by many times thinking it would not be my kind of book. at last due to the urging of my wife i began to read clan of the cave bear! from that time until i had completed all five of the books in the earths children series,i absolutly could not put them down.i have read many book series. but never have i been carried away so by an author.the depth of auels research will pull at a very primitive and forgotin place in your being.however i must warn you! when you have completed the series thus far the knowledge of the as yet unwriten or at least unpublished climax to this series will leave you feeling incomplete!! so please Miss Auel finesh the series soon

Absolutely brilliant. Couldn't put it down.
Clan of the cave bear. This book & the following three in the series, would have to be four of the best books I have ever read. I was quite upset when I finished the last of the four that I know of. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if that was the last of them. Donna Ellement (steve@iexpress.net.au) Perth Australia

The Earth's Children series
Each book does as promised, stand alone, and also as part of the larger story it melds into a great whole. I waited impatiently for each book as it came out, and because of the many years wait for The Shelters Of Stone, I was somewhat dissappointed in the book, because in my opinion all it really did was do a further buildup for the final book in the series, and I am so afraid that there will be another extended waiting period and let-down, but over-all I have to give the series a huge thumbs up and say that this series is definately part of my "Keeper" and "Re-readable" list and is now part of my personal Library.

The Sweet Smell of Christmas
This was a favorite of mine when I was growing up and I did purchase it for my daughter when she was an infant. Of course now the "smells" are long gone - even the cover came off, but we still read the book every Christmas. I was hoping to buy a new copy for my second daughter who is four so she could enjoy the fresh smells.

Is there any way this book could be published again? I know several people that would buy it if they could.

MY MOST MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS BOOK
The "Sweet Smell of Christmas" is a childhood book that has left a wonderful mark on my Christmas memories. My mother still has my copy and is now sharing it with my 3 year old son. Even though the "smells" exist only in the immagination now, my son still breathes in each page with a "MMMmmm". It was a shame when my mother went to find a new copy for my son and found it out of print. (She did call the publisher and express her dissapointment.) She fortunately found a copy for my son, but hopes to see this book in stores again. It is the best Christmas book!

I Spy an Eye for Good Books
Well, I saved just about all the Christmas books I had as a child so that I can read them to my kids. Every year my daughter chooses The Sweet Smell of Cristmas as her favorite. The bind is torn, probably from opening it so much and all the scratch and sniff stickers are gone, but, I can still smell the pine tree and the orange. Maybe because its been in my head all of these years. She now reads it to me and as she goes on each adventure with little bear, her face lights up. I only wish she can smell the pages like I did. What a wonderful book!!

Lovely and touching
What grinch reviewed this title for Publishers Weekly? As a children's librarian, I see hundreds of books a year. This title has quickly become one of my very favorites. The text is pure poetry in its simple eloquence about parenting. I cried the first time I read it. If you are looking for a beautifully illustrated book that will tug at your heartstrings while being a delight to read aloud, this is the one. Hooray for Maryann Cusimano for her fresh new vision of love and kudos to the always wonderful Satomi Ichikawa for her charming pictures.

Sweet...loving...wonderful book for all
I purchased this book for Christmas for my 22 month old daughter and like others, cried the first time I read it. During Christmas, I was overheard reading it to my child by her grandparents, and they too, stood there with tears in their eyes saying it was the sweetest book they have heard. Please do not listen to the Publisher's Weekly review...it is quite obvious the person who gave such a negative review does not have children. My daughter sat still while I read it as rhyming kept her attention as well as the day-to-day activities of the bear were similar to hers. This is a book to be treasured!

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS TO SHARE W/ YOUR CHILD!
The publishers review is way off!! This book is an endearing tale of the parent-child bond. It tells a quaint story of how our roles as parent & child vary. And I feel it shows how our view of the world as a parent differs from that of our child. Whenever I read this book to my son, I feel am expressing how special he is to me in a way that he can understand. This book is definitely one of my favorites!!!

Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See
Published in Paperback by HBJ College & School Division (June, 1993)
Author: Martin
Amazon base price: $66.60
Buy one from zShops for: $90.95
The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves. On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. One thing readers might not predict, however, is just what kinds of funny characters will make an appearance at the denouement! Children on the verge of reading learn best with plenty of identifiable images and rhythmic repetition. Eric Carle's good-humored style and colorful, bold illustrations (like those in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, and Have You Seen My Cat?) have earned him a prominent place in the children's book hall of fame. The bare necessities (ho ho!)
For those cave dwellers amongst you who've finally crept out of your hermit-like existences to gain a little knowledge about the wide world of children's picture books, the name "Eric Carle" will be unknown to you. For everyone else in the universe, however, Mr. Carle is undoubtedly one of the best known illustrators of the Western world. The father of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and the more recent "Slowly Slowly Slowly Said the Sloth", his earlier work, "Brown Bear", is a sweet simple storyline that remains timeless.

In this story, different animal characters, cut cleverly from a dazzling array of colored papers, tell the viewer what it is that they see. The cat sees a dog, the dog sees a sheep, the sheep sees a goldfish, etc. Now when I said this story was timeless, I wasn't kidding. Honestly, I'm having a great deal of difficulty finding ANYTHING about this story that's going to date it in one or two hundred years down the road. Originally published in 1967, the book is particularly impressive because of the shot of children it cuts to towards the end. Suddenly the viewer is observing kids of a myriad of races and skin tones. In 1967. And these are not your white-kids-painted-brown type pictures either. And they're not all just black or white! There's the most surprising thing of all, to my mind. In an age when illustrators were having a devil of a time remembering to even include black kids in the occasional book, here we have a book that is including everything from Asian to Native American children, front and center.

On a completely unrelated side-note, the mother in this book bears a striking resemblance to a LOT of very hip mommies these days. From her dark rimmed Harry Potteresque glasses to her well coiffed hair, this is a mother on the go.

To be perfectly blunt, I'm not an Eric Carle fan. He bores me, and I have distinct memories of finding "The Hungry Caterpillar" annoying as a child. But at the same time I'm having a lot of difficulty finding anything at all wrong with this book. It's not the most exciting picture book on the market today. It will not grab you, necessarily. It doesn't demand the spotlight or find itself in intellectual discussions about the nature of animal representation for the pre-adolescent set. It's just a good book with a nice plot and pretty pictures that teach kids about colors and animals. And doggone it, that's good enough for me.

Educational, Simple, Fun and Great Illustrations
My son (2 years old)received this board book as a gift yesterday, and it is already his new favorite book.

The illustrations are extremely vivid and well illustrative of each animal and colour (except the goldfish, which doesn't quite look like a normal goldfish)

He loves to "peep" at the next page to see which animal is coming next (as he can't read as yet), and then loudly announce it as if he's reading. Of course he knows the words by heart already.

As we were driving today we passed a dog, and he proudly said "I see a white dog, looking at me!"

I never thought such a simple book and concept could be so educational.

Consistantly Requested!
All three of my children LOVE this book...(Sam 6, Allison 3, and Cole 1). We have two copies in the house because they get read so much. The pictures are bright and beautiful and each of the children have learned colors, animals, and the fundamentals of rhyming from this excellent book. I also suggest "White Bear White Bear What do you Hear"...

Hat and boot in hand, a boy and a bear set off on a delicious and raucous romp through Berryland. They frolic in strawberry fields forever, rumble and ramble in blackberry brambles, and topple their canoeberry with blueberries. Silly rhymes and a musical beat practically beg to be read aloud, preferably accompanied by dancing. New readers will giggle as they follow the fruit-frenzied pals on their berry adventures. Jamberry builds quickly in intensity and complexity, starting with "One berry, Two berry, Pick me a blueberry," and working up to "Raspberry, Jazzberry, Razzmatazzberry, Berryband, Merryband, Jamming in Berryland." Children will love discovering the subtle touches in Bruce Degen's illustrations: a frog climbing out of a hat, crackers and butter instead of lily pads, and a sign by the raspberry skating rink imploring skaters not to pick the jelly rolls planted nearby. Every character seems giddy with well-fed joy in this veritable jamboree of flavorful fun. Jamberry is a book best enjoyed on a gloomy day with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. no love from our book lover!
My son is 18 months old and LOVES books. He seems to have an insatiable desire for books. I was disappointed by the "busy" illustrations and awkward reading. This is the only book we own that doesn't hold his interest at all.

Great Fun! One of the Best Children's Book Around!
One of my all-time favorites for children aged four months to 2 1/2 years! The youngest will enjoy the enthusiastic alliterative rhyming and the bright colors; toddlers (and adults!) will also enjoy the clever pictorial links between each page (preparations for fireworks are shown in the corner of one page; delightfully exploding berries on the next).

I don't know whether this book is more fun for the reader or the listener ("Raspberry/Jazzberry/ Razzamatazzberry/ Berryband/Merryband/Jamming in Berryland"), but it will fast become a favorite for you and a child! An enchanting tale, beautifully told: A perfect gift!

Wonderful cadence!
This is a wonderful little book. My 7-month old loves it. I started reading to him from birth. The hardcover pages make it a perfect size for little hands. He looks forward to our reading Jamberry. The author was so creative and the rhyming is wonderful. It's a fun book to read outloud to my son! I also recommend Sheep in a Jeep and Sweet Dreams, Ted. They, along with Jamberry, are his favorites! Pick yours up today as a gift or for your own little baby or toddler.

Hug

How can it be that a book with only one word--hug--repeated throughout, can be so good? The proof is in the pudding (or the wilds of Africa) in Jez Alborough's picture book Hug, a delightful mini odyssey of a baby chimpanzee on the hunt for his mum and a cuddle.

Our little friend wanders through the trees, witnessing many other animals from chameleons to giraffes as they snuggle together. "Hug," he says, happily, at first, but then with growing despair as he sees there are no hugs for him. The story is told purely by the expression on the little chimp's face as his hopes are built up and dashed again until eventually, with a huge smile, he finds his mum and reaps the reward.

Hug is a clever, unusual book that portrays the art of children's illustration at its very best: a story brought to life with the stroke of a brush through facial expressions and body language that children will immediately understand.

Ideal for sharing with small ones, this lovely book is a warm, comforting read that cannot fail to please. (Ages 1 to 4)

Recommended for "special needs" children
I bought this book and read it to my son as a bedtime story. My son is 3 years 1 month old and was diagnosed with apraxia (he can not tell his mouth to make the words he wants to say). He has a very limited speaking vocabulary (10 words) and is unable to say most letters or words correctly. In addition, he has been diagnosed as MIMH..
On Thursday night, voluntarily without my asking him to, he read the book with me. Each time I said a word, he would say it too. "Hug" occurs many times and "Mommy" and "Bobo" each twice. He was reading and voluntarily speaking! The next morning he read the book to my mom without me saying the words first! Not every book can meet the needs of special needs children, but this one can and does. Buy it! and you will see many rewards with your child. Another good book is Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann. Plus as an adult you'll enjoy both of these books too!

Everyone needs a hug
My 2-1/2 year old son loves this book. We'd checked it out from the library so many times that I quickly snached it up when I saw it on a discount rack at my bookstore. My son loves naming the animals and talking about Bobo's emotions when he's sad and lonely wanting a hug and then how happy he is to see his mommy and get a hug from her. We hug right before we turn the page, every page.

THIS BOOK IS AWESOME
I read this book to my 2 year old every night & she loves it. In fact, when it's time to go to bed we say, "Are you ready to go see Bobo?" and she runs to the door yelling "BOBO BOBO". She knows the whole story I have made up to go along with it and says it along with me. The illustrations are clear and she loves picking out the animals and telling me the sounds they make. Most of all, she loves it when Bobo and his mommy are reunited.

Corduroy
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (May, 1976)
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $0.01
Collectible price: $1.99
Have you ever dreamed of being locked in a department store at night? The endearing story of Corduroy paints a picture of the adventures that might unfold (for a teddy bear at least) in such a situation. When all the shoppers have gone home for the night, Corduroy climbs down from the shelf to look for his missing button. It's a brave new world! He accidentally gets on an elevator that he thinks must be a mountain and sees the furniture section that he thinks must be a palace. He tries to pull a button off the mattress, but he ends up falling off the bed and knocking over a lamp. The night watchman hears the crash, finds Corduroy, and puts him back on the shelf downstairs. The next morning, he finds that it's his lucky day! A little girl buys him with money she saved in her piggy bank and takes him home to her room. Corduroy decides that this must be home and that Lisa must be his friend. Youngsters will never get tired of this toy-comes-alive tale with a happy ending, so you may also want to seek out Dan Freeman's next creation, A Pocket for Corduroy. (Ages 3 to 8)

Sare's Review
Corduroy is the story of a cute brown bear who lived in the toy department of a big store. Each day he would wait for a child to come along and buy him and take him home. Each day the store was filled with people buying all sorts of things, but no one ever seemed to want the small bear in green overalls, because him overalls were missing a button. One morning a little girl came up to Corduroy and told her mom that he was the bear she had always wanted. The mother told the girl not today, and that he doesn't look new because he's missing a button. That night, Corduroy decides to take an adventure and search the store for his missing button. A night guard find's him though, and returns him to the toy department. The next day the little girl returns for Corduroy. She brings all the money from her piggy bank and buys Corduroy. When she return's home, she sews Corduroy on a new button. I recommend reading Corduroy, it is a classic children's story that everyone should hear at least once in their life.

Loved it then....and love it now!
I first read(well, had it read to)this book when I was in pre-school(1984-ish) and I loved it! My favorite illistration was of Corduroy pulling the "button" off the matress and flying in the air!

Anyway, I saw this book in a child's consigment shop nearly two years ago(May 27th, to be exact). I didn't have any money to buy it, but my friend was willing to buy it for me(it was only a dollar)and I read it and enjoyed it all over again.

Since I was older, I understood the story more(and I paid closer attention to the drawings, even noticing that in the night after the store was closed, all the dolls had their eyes closed as opposed to their eyes being open during the day).

This teaches the lesson that every toy you buy for your kids doesn't have to be perfect. Kids and adults will appreciate this story(the adults moreso).

Fun bear story
A brown teddy bear sits in a toy shop waiting to find a real home. He catches the eye of a little girl, but her mother says she can't take him home because he's missing a button on his overalls. Determined to find a home, the bear goes on a nighttime hunt through the store for his button. The hunt almost ends in disaster. But the next morning the little girl returns to the store and takes him home at last. The book is not scary. The human characters are shown to be African Americans. The book has about 250 words.

Fail to see the 5 stars
I bought this book because of the high ratings in Amazon. I must say that I fail to see why it deserves such high ratings.

The book introduced one central theme - look for a big volume jump when the price crosses the 150-day moving average - and was repetitive after that. The book tried to discuss chart patterns (e.g. head-shoulders) but was pretty lame. The book did not mention anything about other market indicators such as MACD, RSI, etc. Were these indicators unimportant? Were these indicators not in fashion back in 1990? I was perplexed.

If you are looking for an introduction to technical analysis, there are better tutorials out on the web than this book (just google "technical analysis"). Save your money for your next investment.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
In the past 6 months, I have bought and read over 15 books on trading and investment (Van Tharp, LeBeau, Nison, Oz, O'Neill, Murphy) and this is by far one of the best books out there. At first, I was reluctant to purchase this book based on the date of publication (Pre 1990). But, as other great trading books, this one is a classic that should be in every library of technical investors/traders at an extremely affordable price.

Key points:
- Very practical, systematic and clear. Excellent communication. You don't get bored reading it.
- Sound trading system.
- Stan's stage analysis is a tremendous help to separate the stock price movement in stages. Very valuable insight.
- His stop loss explanation on both and long are extremely valuable and clear. He explained it in a step-by-step fashion. This alone can save you $$$ by locking-in your profit.
- Other excellent explanation: important chart patterns to be considered (he only selects the best ones), volume analysis, importance of Relative Strength and moving averages. What to buy, When to Buy, When to Sell, How to Short....And he separated those key processes between Traders and Investors. So, you will have a clear understanding of what to do. A step by step explanation on how you can find the A+ stocks using his "Forest to Trees" approach.
- Excellent Quiz & Answers and the end of each chapter that tremendously re-test you understanding of the important concepts.

If you're a beginner or intermediate, this book will certainly give you a huge boost in mastering chart reading as well as execution. Unlike any books that sort of short in explaining one critical area, I find Stan's book very clear and entertaining as well. It opens your eyes on what to look for in a chart.

Highly recommended!

A big profit maker
To anyone who wants to beat the market and improve their success rate by learning and using Technical Analysis this book is a gauranteed way to get started. Its written in simple terms, has excelent examples and offers advice based on time-proven methods. Compared to other similar tomes on this subject it uses no math or formulas but relies on actual charts of stocks. The method teaches how to view price, volume and trend data so that stock picks yield winners 60 to 80% of the time and with gains (for me) 2x to 10x! It also provides lessons on the how to cut losses and how to learn the discipline of selling for maximum profit. This is a book which can (and must) be reread over and over as one gains expertise at Technical Analysis. The methods learned provide logical procedures which eliminate the hype of the stock market and turns the hype into profits. Weinstein's motto of the "Tape Tells All" is the foundation for success because it places stock action as the primary source of information over OPINION.
