Outstanding humor with common sense! Delightful reading!
Frances Weaver writes about the options and opportunities available to people of any age, how to make the most of our senior years, and offers good advice -- with such a delightful sense of humor that you truly enjoy reading about coping with the present, enjoying the future, and sharing precious moments with family and friends! Great!

an inspiration to get off the duff and get moving forward!
couldn't put it down. exteremely inspiring since i'm where ms. weaver is in life. cleverly written. makes you think how lucky we "older" folks are to be able to do all the things we never had time for when we had families to raise. i agree with her admonition - NEVER WHINE! i reccomend this book to any older person who has lost their zeal or just needs encouragement to reach out and up! i plan to read grandmother faces now.

great help
This book addressed the emotional needs that happen to us middle something aged women. It was amusing, comforting and helpful. I also read Taking Charge of the Change by Pamela Smith and found the 2 books together to be a winning combination.

too good to pass up
It was a great way to look at mid-life; embrace rather than retreat. Mid-life is a place where richness flows and wisdom is realized. A must read book for any woman in mid-life that needs a fresh perspective and a new view of life.

If I Was a Dog, I'd Be a Better Person
Published in Paperback by Comedy Workout Publishing (05 December, 2002)

Jasheway Does it Again!
"If I Was a Dog, I'd Be a Better Person" had my four boys rolling on the floor and fighting over who got to take it to show-n-tell first. It actually should be on every school and government agency's required reading list. (It really makes you think!)
However, my Doberman got a little high and mighty after I read it to her, and she presumed it gave her license to eat the butter left on the dining room table. So be careful who you buy it for. . . it might boost their confidence to dangerously high levels and max out their laugh quotient for the day.
I loved Leigh Anne Jasheway's book, "Bedtime Stories for Dogs," and she's right on the mark with "If I Was a Dog, I'd Be a Better Person."

I'm a better person after reading this pocket gem! Arf! Arf!
An adorable, cloying tribute to all dogs on the planet! Nice pocket size book to take anywhere -- and definitely for readers of all ages. Even your dog will love the book's humor and soft
pillow edges! The author, a nationally known comedian, animal supporter, humanitarian, and these are just some of the good things about Jasheway, gently persuades us into thinking about our behavior as human beings. And that's just the half of it. There' more -- but we'll leave it at that for now.
Jasheway is an intrepid explorer and that's what makes the author exciting because who knows what she'll come up with next. Wonderful illustrations blended with forethought fill each page along with delightful captions. Even if you're not a dog lover, you should get this book, then do something nice: pass the book on to a good friend and buy a few extra copies for your co-workers.

If It Weren't for People: Management Would Be a Science
Published in Paperback by Engineering & Management Pr (October, 1998)

Highly recommend
Mr McMurran has written a very thoughtful exposition on the foibles, follies and fools that he encountered in a very successful life. His career was technical but the events and lessons learned are applicable to any business. The lessons he draws from his real life experiences are instructive and insightful. I highly recommend this book to anyone already in, or thinking about entering, management. And it was fun to read! Thomas Cox

Brilliant & informative on management & modern technology.
Comments on Marshall McMurran's " If It Weren't for People Management Would Be a Science" from a Canadian who has managed successfully to steer clear of technology but gets hooked by books. You have achieved a major triumph here, Mr. McMurran. You have pointed your pen not only for America but for the entire world. You have been closely involved in the American technological revolution and found the courage to tell it like it was, warts and all. "Good rarely happens..." "It was vital that the technical and human elements played in harmony..." Are you listening to this wisdom, you price fixers? you global moguls? "Many changes...were about to bloom along with the California poppy..." Assuming you weren't referring to the new growth industry of opium in your state, Mr. McMurran, it's another example of your wonderful facility to talk facts in metaphors, making this book accessible for all of us who really should know more about technology. Thanks from Sheila Reid in Manitoba Canada.

EVERY YANKEE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
Was given If The South Rises Again It'll Be Over My Dead Body as a gift. Didn't know what to expect. It's hysterically funny and a must read for every Yankee and Southerner with a funny bone. This send up of the South, its people and habits will keep any reader laughing.

Loved it and have sent it as a present to all my friends.

A FUNNY, SATIRICAL BOOK.
THIS BOOK IS HYSTERICAL. BIG LAUGHS. IT TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT THE SOUTH, AND SOUTHERNERS, FROM A YANKEE POINT OF VIEW. IT'S DONE TONGUE IN CHEEK BUT ALL OF THE INCIDENTS AND EXAMPLES OF SOUTHERN BEHAVIOR ARE TRUE.

THIS SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR EVERY HUMAN BEING ABOVE THE MASON DIXON LINE. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT VISITING OR DRIVING THROUGH THE SOUTH WITHOUT READING THE BOOK.

MAKES A GREAT GIFT.

The best book I've ever read.
"If You Could Be My Friend" is a great book to everyone. It can break the highest score by its cover and content. My teacher and I were looking through books at the library, and we came to this book by accident. I really can't tell my feelings while I was reading it. It talks about two girls, one an Israeli and the other a Palestinian. They knew each other through a french journalist. Then they started to send letters to each others from August 1988 talking about the history of their two peoples. Their letters were emotional because both of them were writing of what was happening in their lands because of the war. First, they thought that they could be friends, but after many years, they grew up and changed their minds. Many people were killed from both sides and each one of them started to blame the other. On October 1991, they met in Jerusalem for the first time. I really recommend this book to anyone because the author did a fantastic job writing it. I finished reading it in one day only because I was really interested in it and I didn't feel the time.

At the very LEAST this book is an educational treasure
I came across this book by accident. It almost brings tears to my eyes just thinking about what I experienced in the pages of this book. This educational treasure cuts through the clutter of daily news and brings you to the personal and political front lines of two girls seperated by war. Somewhere in each letter is the innocence of youth, however at all times there is a learned vehemance budding in every letter. Despite the political barriers between both girls, there is the common denominator of friendship. When they look at each other as Arab and Jewish...they tend to think "She's one of the enemy." However, when they look at each other as Mervet and Galit they tend to think "She is my friend." To me this book is proof that people can learn to celebrate divirsity if they would only stop to listen and talk to each other.

Imagine All the People: A Conversation with the Dalai Lama on Money, Politics, and Life as it Could Be

Unique
You know before reading this book, I thought I had pretty much captured most of what the Dalai Lama had to offer by way of the written word. But this book gave me a different glimpse into the man, where we find a dialogue of intimacy and open honesty unlike we have ever seen in his other works (still wonderful other works, at that!).

My favorite section in here was called "The Seduction of the Military." The Dalai Lama comments, "Frankly, as a child, I was attracted to the military. Their uniforms looked so smart and beautiful. But that is exactly how the seduction begins." And how true, yes? Children will be children, even I played with toy guns and bought G.I. Joe's to pass the time with. There are a wide variety of such exciting games, but I now see that perhaps they really are not as harmless as we might perceive them to be. Surely there are fun games for kids to play that aren't based on the killing of other human beings. The Dalai Lama purports that if it wasn't for the fact that so many adults in this world are fascinated and mesmerized themselves by military and war, that we could all see more clearly that allowing our children to play such games is extremely unfortunate. Imagine your child running around the back yard like he is a serial killer! It's somewhat scary when I look at it from this perspective. The Dalai Lama tells of how some former soldiers have through the years told him that at first when they killed someone, it made them feel awkward. But as time on the battlefield progressed, they grew desensitized and more and more accustomed to the act of taking life. That's the condition many of us seem to be in. We see so much of this on either the news or in the form of movies, that we are completely desensitized as to the harm it is actually doing everyone.

This is a magnificent book. If you are looking for a presentation on the Dalai Lama the man, this book delivers the good for us here. He covers compassion in a section titled, "The Medicine of Altruism." He refers to the plague Tibet underwent at the hands of Mao, and how this medicine was the requisite every Tibetan needed and sometimes still needs to fully heal from those terrible atrocities. Man I could go on and on. But why don't you let the Dalai tell you for himself? Enjoy the book.

Interesting Q&A from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
How could I say that anything His Holiness is involved with is bad...? ha ha This book is exactally what it says it is. It's a question and answer session with His Holiness. This is not a straight through Q&A - It's rather a series of meetings with HHDL and this unknown business man. There are quite a few very interesting answers from His Holiness in the book. Basically is this worth buying? Yes, I think it is. Is it enjoyable to read? Once again, Yes I think so. Nothing very complex, just simple, straight forward answers from (in my mind atleast) The most compassionate man on earth. Short and easy to read, check it out.

IT AIN'T THAT DEEP...WHY CAN'T I BE LOVED?
THIS BOOK IS WRITTEN FROM A TEENAGER VIEW POINT OF DIFFERENT OSTACLES THAT THE NINE CHILDREN WENT THROUGH TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR MOTHER AND HOW SHE DIED.
DIFFERENT LIES COERCED BY THE AUNTS AND UNCLES OF BOTH SIDES OF THEIR FAMILY NEVER REVEALING HOW THER DIED.
TRUST FUNDS LOST AND NEVER GIVEN TO THE CHILDREN. ALL RECORDS OF THE MURDER CONCEALED SOMEWHERE HAS NOT BEEN FOUND.
THE STORY IS UNIQUE AND REALLY MAKES YOU WANT TO REACH OUT TO HELP THE CHILDREN FIND THE ANSWERS THEY SO BADLY WANT TO FIND OUT. THESE CHILDREN NOW, ADULTS ALL WANTED SOMEONE TO JUST TELL THEM THAT THEY LOVED THEM AND CARED HOW THEY FELT.

It Ain't That Deep...WhyCan't I BeLoved?
The book is intriging, keeps you going back and forth to see who is who. Once you start reading you can't put it down. It makes you Laugh and Cry. It keeps you in suspense. I think that there should be someone out there willing to help these children find out what really happened to the mother.
Gogo did a lot of discovery and i want to know what happened to the records and was there really any Trust Funds set up for them for the murder of Ther the mother
I loved the book can't wait for the second one to come out.

Timpane is an absolute master at simply explaining the art and science of poetry, and what it can bring to life ... anyone's life. His direct and humorous style is easily understood, and will appeal to anyone from 14 to 90 years old. My suggestion: Start near the back where he explains how he fell in love with this form of expression as a young teen, on one particular day in California. You'll want to slip it under your teenager's pillow that very night, then run out and buy a copy for every one you love.

The best book ever written on poetry appreciation
This is quite possibly the best book ever written on poetry appreciation. I am an English teacher and have read more poetry appreciation texts than I can number, but this one is IT. It is informative, truthful, and, at times, absolutely hilarious. Written in a down-to-earth, conversational style, it will make you want to read all that poetry you hated or feared in school. As Timpane is fond of saying to his reader -- DO IT!

What a cute story!
My 3 1/2 year old son loves this book! He wants to read it every night. It is so cute and funny! It is a true story about a litter of puppies (especially one in particular - Mary Margaret) and their adventures. It uses repetition that kids love so much and also teaches the days of the week. The illustrations are great too! A bonus of this book is that all the author's proceeds go to a charity!

There is a second book comming out soon about Mary Margaret's adventures in her new home. I can hardly wait!

A must have for any dog lovers with children - toddlers to kindergarten or older!!!

It's cute!
A childrens story about a litter of Scotty puppies and their antics. Plenty of opportunities to discuss the illustrations to your young reader. It's fun!
