comprehensive book with lot's of help for the daily work
A shame this book is out of stock... The book puts at your hand all the (more technical) mean to perform efficiently in your sales job. The book contains lots of tabels and worksheets which are perfect for the start. Of course - if you don't want to have any system in your work behavior then avoid this book! ;-) The book does not contain anything much about psychology, closing, arguing etc. For this I refer everybody to the topic of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). There are even some books who make it explicitly clear what are pros of NLP to the sales person....

ITS ONE OF THE GOOD BOOKS I HAVE READ.
IT IS DEEP ROOTED IN THE SUBJECT AND I GAINED IMMENCE KNOWLEDGE FROM THIS

No one at the new factory believes the bear is a bear
The previous reviewer has gotten a few details of the story wrong - who wouldn't, remembering a childhood favorite. In this picture book translation from German, a bear wakes up from his winter's nap to find his forest has been razed. He meets a man from the newly built factory, who puts him to work there. By winter, he realizes where he really belongs. Although originally published in 1976, the book's design gives it a very contemporary look; sort of an Anthony Browne meets Chris Van Allsburg, with dark, detailed art and text boxes. Hey, you publishers out there - get this book back in print! Patti McLaughlin, Children's Librarian, The Free Library of Philadelphia

This book is my favorite book ever!
I have been unable to locate "The Bear Who Wanted To Be A Bear" anywhere! The last time I read this story was about 20 years ago. My family and I still talk about it fondly and with many happy memories.

The book is about a bear who is lost and confused and not sure what his calling in life is. He tries to find himself by taking on a variety of jobs such as joining a circus, working in a factory...

Eventually, he listens to his heart and realizes who he is and what he needs and wants to do.

The illustrations for this book have a very playful and animated 70's style. One particular page I remember quite vividly as do my siblings is where the bear takes a job in a factory. The illustration displays the inside of a factory filled with a twisted maze of foreign equipment made of pipes, wires and gadgets. My brother, sister and I would take turns making the sound effects for each piece of equipment and imagining how the machines operated.

Sometimes I wonder if the books I loved as a child were great because of the actual story or because of the wonderful memories I have with my family reading them to me. Either way, this book is sure to do the same for others.

How it should be done
Christine Whipp always knew there was something wrong about the way she fitted in - or rather, didn't fit in - with her family. Finally, when she was 41, her mother told her the reason: she had been conceived by donor insemination. Since then, Christine has tried to find out who her biological father was. "I want to know where I belong", she says.

Our relatedness is part of who we are; part of what makes us human. In this very readable book, Pete Moore writes popular medicine, science and philosophy as they should be written: through individual lives. He deals with nine different aspects of what it means to be a person - the embodied, conscious, genetic, historical, related, material, spiritual, sexual and social - by telling the stories of people who are extreme examples of each.

Moore muses about these facets of our humanity in the light of current theories. He concludes that "being me" doesn't lie in any particular aspect. Just as the imact of a painting does not depend on any one brush stroke, but emerges indefinably from them all, so our humanity is more complex than any breakdown of this type can pinpoint.

I would have liked a chapter on memory, which seems to me one of the crucial elements of our human mix. Even without it, however, this book is an intelligent and warm-hearted exploration of the human condition.

A fresh look at a classic topic
Moore does away with the complex academic language and instead uses great stories of real people's lives to give insights into what it means to be human. It has depth, humor and content - I couldn't put it down.

The Best Fools Be
I am usually not attacted to "murder-mystery" fiction, but this one caught my eye and once into it, could not put it down. An intelligent, thoughtful plot; sprinkled with wonderful quotes - a real page turner. We'll be hearing more from K.B. Morley I believe, and soon I hope!!!

Can't Wait For the Sequel
Poignant, funny, sometimes hard-hitting - lots of surprises, twists and turns and a real spin on the "who dunnit. There's a "red-herring" or two, a profusion of dead bodies, prophetic quotes and likable people. Highly recommended to the mystery lover. A little in the "cosy" end of the genre, but it won't leave you comfortable! Perfect cold winter's night read!

Wonderful
A look at FAS/E from a personal point of view. What a great way of getting the message of how FAS/E affects children, out into the world!

An incredible resource on FAS, from a family's perspective
This book tells the story of a girl who suffers from FAS, and her journey with her adoptive parents towards education and independence. One of the best handbooks I've read on the subject; short, but packed with information, thorough lists of resources, homeschool supplies that worked, etc., and, most valuable of all, a family's perspective on the trials and successes of dealing with this syndrome. Liz, the daughter, was adopted soon after birth, and couldn't stand being touched until nearly her 10th year. Her parents homeschooled her from fourth grade on, after finding that the schools couldn't really give their daughter the help she needed. There are segments written by Liz throughout the book, written in her own hand, about her struggles, difficulties, and successes. This book is hard to find in libraries, but it is, in its own way, as important and valuable as Streissguth's books, and far more immediate and touching. Read this!!

What a great book!
Everyone who has ever used a library should get this book - not just librarians. Even the back cover is funny. People will say "he's just a kid" (I'm 16) and "what would he know"? But I'm telling you - I KNOW what's funny, and this book IS too, too hilarious.

I never know that forwards and introductions could be like the ones in this book. My librarian never told me that even title pages could be used for more than just breaking up sections.

If you're looking for something really boring, you should NOT buy this book.

What a lot of fun!
This book won't suit everyone - you need a sense of humor, and at least a little knowledge about libraries to fully appreciate the dry wit.

Love the great cartoons, too!

Billiards As It Should Be Played
Published in Paperback by NTC/Contemporary Publishing (September, 1978)
Author: Wille Hoppe
Amazon base price: $5.95
Average review score:

A comprehensive discussion of 3 cushion and carom billiards
Of the dozens of books and videos I have read and viewed, there is no better discussion on the mathematics and subsequent use of the diamonds. Very few authors even touch on this subject. Mr. Hoppe also explains in detail the use of caroms, english and how to determine the path of cue and object balls after they make contact with each other. All guess work is removed because Mr. Hoppe uses scientific principles in his discussion of this grand old game.

On another note, I found this book in a small bookstore in a small town fifteen or more years ago. I lost this book ten years ago and have not been able to find it anywhere. I now know that it is out of print.

A classic by one of the greatest billiard players ever.
Willie Hoppe provides you with everything needed by dedicated person to become competitive in 3-cushion billiards play. He begins his book with the proper selection of a cue stick for playing billiards, then for thirty pages of text, detailed diagrams, and clear photographs, takes you through the fundamentals (stance, balance point of the cue, bridge, cueing the ball, stroke, english, and speed). The next twenty pages introduce you to the carom (natural, follow, and draw) and the use of the rails in cushion caroms and straight rail billiards. The second half of the book is dedicated to the game of 3-cushion billiards. In it Mr. Hoppe outlines the key shots of the game, misunderstood shots, and finally the science of the game. He discusses why english curves the path of the ball, the effect of the nap of the cloth on the table, the effective size of the target, long and short rolls, and the various diamond systems. His explanation of these systems alone is worth the price of the book. It is complete, detailed, and, most important, clear. In all, this book is exceptionally dense with information. Even after twenty years of use, each time I come back to this book, I gain a greater understanding of the game. It combines clarity of description with 95 well though out diagrams and thirty-seven black and white photographs. All in all, it is one of the best explanations of the royal game to ever have been published. Players of all levels of experience and skill will find something of value, and most will find enough to keep them learning and improving their game for many years. If you have the dedication of purpose to work your way through his approach to learning billiards, you too can become a Player (with a capital "P") using this book alone. As Willie Hoppe says in his forward to this book "You or anyone else who reads these instructions can become a good billiard player beyond the shadow of a doubt -- if you follow them." I agree, and I think you will too.

Should be required reading for W.A.S.P.'s like me
When we look way way back into Christian history we usually look to the mid-east and the missionary journeys of Paul into Turkey and Greece, etc. BUT few realize the mighty missionary work in Africa the first 10-15 years after Christ's resurrection. Usry and Keener give us an eye-opening look at the fact that Christianity was established in Africa [Egypt and Ethiopia] and spread like wildfire throughout North and East Africa-in fact Christianity became better entrenched, more united, less 'tainted' and more enduring quicker than when it spread northward and they show us Christianity MOST definitely should be considered Afro-centric. The first 3 chapters are worth the price of the book. I wish EVERY white preacher [like me] would read this. Keener [a white preacher in a mainly black denomination] is the author of several thorough and gifted volumes on marriage, the Holy Spirit and the Gospel of Matthew [published by IVP] and he brings his thoroughness here as well.
Usry's [and Kenner's] testimonies are great!Their historical documentation is great and their line of thought in refuting black Muslim's arguments that Christianity enslaved and brought down black Africa is absolutely stunning. Islam didn't even exist until well after Christianity and was forced upon the people at sword-point. Black Man's Religion is superb, I highly recommend it for an eye-opening thought-provoking read-especially for Southern W.A.S.P.s like me. Also read anything by Albert Raboteau [about African-American religious experience] and the fascinating story of Coptic [African/Egyptian] Christianity. More and more and more it is very clear that Christianity is so ORIENTAL [i.e. of the mid-east, southwest Asia and North/East Africa]-American Christianity is still in its infancy in comparison.

BLACK MAN'S RELIGION
I would like to thank the two authors Gleen Usry & Craig S. Keener for writting Black Man's Religion. I truely enjoyed reading the book. I had to read the book for a class. I feel that everybody should read this book. I would like to thank the authors for writting such a great book.
