Why the Weight?: Dare to be Great!
This is a wonderful and inspiring book for someone trying to lose a few pounds or many pounds. Jean Krueger's story is inspirational and encouraging and has helped me focus on the goals I have set to lose weight and get fit. She gives practical advice that is easy to apply to your daily life and actually works. Her book will make you laugh, think and maybe cry a little but I know that whenever I feel myself slipping or getting careless with my eating choices, I just pick up her book to get inspired all over again. You will love it!!

The process for successful eating for good health.
I have read Ms. Krueger's book for the second time and each time I find more and more helpful information. I believe that the best gift we can give ourselves and others is to work toward perfect health. Why the Weight? Dare to Be Great! is definitely the answer to achieving that goal. I have been eating lots of vegetables and fruits, staying away from white rice, avoiding white bread, and exercising along with eating these healthy foods. I have the honor of knowing Jean Krueger and she walks her talk by her example and her life experiences. She is a great lady who has the tenacity and the determination to achieve her goals. Jean's book is representative of who she is-a woman who wants to share her success with food and life with everyone. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn effective ways to eat and still be able to eat and not starve yourself to try to keep the weight off. If you are ready to take the steps to being healthier and happier, read the words of Why the Weight? Dare to Be Great! and put them into action. This book is the answer that you have been looking for in your quest for a better life.

An Inspiration
Jean is an amazing woman and an inspiration to all. She is someone who has walked the walk. Her advice is on target. She is compassionate but shoots straight. Follow her plan and your life will change, along with your weight. I should know. I have been following her plan for a year now. I have lost 50 pounds, in spite of losing two important people. I dealt with the grief the right way -not eating my way through it. Thank you for everything, Jean.

Gentle, supportive book for anyone who has experienced loss.
I am a psychologist working in a college counseling center, and I frequently recommend this book to my clients. It provides support for anyone who is experiencing grief related to a loss, including the death of a loved one and the breakup of a relationship. The best thing about this book is its unique, easy-to-read format: the chapters are written in outline form, and each chapter is just 1-2 pages long and printed on the left-hand sides of the pages only. The right-hand side pages contain poems, quotes, and sayings offering comfort as well as inspiration. This book will help you to feel that you are not along as you begin to cope with your loss.

Wonderful, easy to read guide through tough times
This book is a very easy to read guide which helps get you through the loss of a loved one, whether that loss is due to death or a break up. It starts from day one - "what happened?!??!" - and takes you to the end stage - moving on to the next love. It provides basic, common sense advice (we all know that in these times we sometimes lack that common sense!), poems, stories, and basic companionship. It acts as a friend, a guide, a helpful companion. You can sit down, read the portion applicable to you at that time, and then come back to the rest later. For example, if you are at the grieving stage, read that section, digest its advice, absorb the poems, and then, when you are ready, read on - to the next stage. The guide is constructed to lead you through the stages of grieving and moving on. Reading ahead can be helpful - so you know where you are heading - as is reading back, so that you can see how far you've come! And, if you aren't normally a poetry fan, don't worry! These are poems which are easy to read, funny, deep, and non-threatening, all at the same time. Get this book - you won't regret it!

Absolutely unique and priceless
This book is not a "chapter" book, but is a collection of thoughts on loss, the pain, the healing. The person who is emotionally distraught anc cannot follow chapters, can pick up this book, flip through it, and find words of comfort. This book was a tremendous comfort to me over 20 years ago when I suffered the loss of a love. I bought several copies to share then, and I'm thrilled to know the book is still available. I'm buying several copies again to give to people who need this help.

Must Read!
Unlike the previous reviewer, I whole heartedly endorse the book. Their is nothing easy about starting a business and the pressures it places on one's life from every possible perspective are unimaginable for anyone who has not laid awake at night wondering how they will make payroll. This book is not afraid to explore some of those areas and personally I think it is a must read for both experienced entrepreneurs and those considering starting a business.

I too attended the seminar in Kansas City and could not disagree more with the previous reviewer. Perhaps he/she was on a coffee or bathroom break and did not understand that many of Mr. Molz' comments were "tongue and cheek" and designed to elicit response from the audience. It is easy to second guess or criticize a decision from the confines of an audience (or behind a computer screen and keyboard). I applaud Mr. Molz for having the courage to share his personal pressures and previous failures as well as his successes. In my opinion, the book and the seminar should be on the "have to do list" of anyone starting or growing a business.

Truly dynamic and wonderful...
Last night I went to see Barry Moltz speak and promptly purchased the book. I'm already tearing through it and wanted to share my thoughts. As an entrepreneur who has shared a lot of Barry's experiences, I can say that he truly has an excellent grasp on his experiences, what they mean in the context of his life and the rollercoaster ride that is building a business. Barry is a dynamic individual that can describe business in a down-to-earth way that helps people in their decision to pursue their passions. I highly recommend buying this book - it is a refreshing change from the typical "MBA - X steps to success" books that litter the shelves.

The more truth the better!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It came to me at just the right time, while I was getting started with my own consulting firm. Mr. Moltz has the courage to provide enough personal and business anecdotes to give an aspiring entrepreneur the ability to double check their own "normalcy". Even though a business start-up is not what most family, friends and corporate-types would consider to be a good idea in this economic environment, Mr. Moltz shows you that the feelings of craziness during this process are "normal" for an entrepreneur. It's this gut-check, this ability to compare your experiences against the veterans, that keeps you going through the ups and downs of starting your own business.

I wish I could remember who recommended this book to me...
-I need to thank him profusely!

I haven't read much Historical Fiction so far, but I've been wanting to for quite a while. I was interested in medieval England primarily, and someone told me to, "Give Sharon Kay Penman a go- She's amazing!" I found the first book really cheap and dove in.

Taking place in the 13th century, we are given the tale of the ruthless King John of England, and his greatest rival, Prince Llewelyn of Wales. To gain a hold over Wales, John marries his favorite daughter, Joanna, to the influential Welsh Prince. Joanna wants nothing less, but as she slowly begins to love her father's greatest enemy, she finds herself torn between the two powerful men. The romantic tale is merely a tiny aspect of this engrossing novel. You will also witness the warfare, politics and what life was like during this brutal period of English and Welsh history. I can think of nothing to compare it too except Braveheart, which is high praise from me. This book has everything in it. It's amazing how some of the best stories in the world actually happened.

From what I've heard, and from the little I've witnessed, historical fiction usually means there will be a compromise in writing and story. Well, from page one, Penman grabbed me and wouldn't let go. After just this one book, she easily earns her place among my favorite authors. Here Be Dragons was simply captivating from beginning to end.

13th Century Welsh Historical Fiction, Romance & Pageantry!
Sharon Kay Penman is a remarkably gifted writer. Her impeccable historical research, attention to detail and superb storytelling ability make her novels consistently excellent. "Here Be Dragons" is one of her best efforts. It is the second book in her Plantagenet series, which include "The Sunne In Splendour," "Falls The Shadow," and "The Reckoning." Each of these wonderful historical novels stands on its own, however, and while it is an extraordinary experience to read each book in order, one does not have to do so to appreciate the history, the characters or the period.

Ruthless, power hungry King John Platagenet ruled 13th century England with an iron fist. He was determined to bring Wales, a country divided, under his thumb and into his power. Charismatic Llewelyn Farr, Prince of Northern Wales fought to unite his country's nobility and provide a strong front against the English. He finally succeeded in securing a tentative truce with England by marrying King John's beloved illegitimate daughter, Joanna. Initially wary of her new husband, her father's enemy, Joanna grew to love Llewelyn passionately over the years, but she was constantly torn between the politics of Wales and England, and her love for her husband and her father.

This is a complex saga of historic characters, politics, intrigues, betrayals, bloody battles and wars, romance, lust, power struggles, princesses held captive, revenge and forgiveness. Yet once begun, this extraordinary epic is almost impossible to put down. Ms. Penman portrays Wales, its people, culture and landscape vividly with glorious detail. It is fascinating to become involved with the characters and realize how linked they are by common ancestry. Not only is Welsh history tied to that of England's, but the royal families, Kings John's and Prince Llewelyn's, are linked by blood as are their descendants. Ms. Penman joins the histories and characters of these two countries to give the reader, not just a superb tale but a look at the bigger historical picture also.

This is truly one of the best historical novels I have ever read, and the four book series by Ms. Penman is absolutely outstanding. She paints an unforgettable picture of medieval England and Wales and the characters who made history. I cannot recommend these books highly enough.

Who needs sleep?
This was the first "historical" novel that I have ever read. Due to the size of the book (over 700 pages), I figured it would take me weeks to read it. I didn't count on how involved I would get with the story. It has been quite a while since a book grabbed me enough to read until dawn. But this one did. So did the two other books in the series, "Falls the Shadow" and "The Reckoning". All three are highly recommended.

Finally some straight answers!
Here is straight, knowledgable advice based on science and research and respect for what women feel! Thank you Dr. Vliet!!I highly recommend this book for anyone out there who can't get straight answers on balancing hormones. The problem that I encountered in the plethora of literature that I read was that books on "natural" normonal balance never discussed any negative side effects that can occur in a woman. This book is honest and easy to understand. A must for every woman's library!

This book has ALL of the answers you've been looking for!!
If you are a woman and looking for answers then this book is for you. Dr. Vliet covers everything imaginable for women's health. I HAD to be seen at her clinic after reading her book and finding answers to all of my questions that no other doctors had been able to answer. I had been previously misdiagnosed with so many things, I was beginning to lose all hope of ever feeling good again after I had a hysterectomy. Now, just 6 months after first visiting Her Place, I feel great, have more energy than I have since I was 20, weigh 115 pounds, and my sex life is now awesome! Don't miss an opportunity to change your life. Read this book and find confirmation for what you have suspected all along. This book can truly change your life!

She's a new person!
When we told friends about our teenage daughter's poor health, they recommended we read "Screaming to be Heard". We bought the book the next day and within a week had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Vliet. We credit Dr. Vliet with turning our daughter's health, and her life, around. She's a new person! We highly recommend this book.

Be Quick - But Don't Hurry : Finding Success in the Teachings of a Lifetime

Authors: Andrew Hill and John Wooden

John Wooden was named ESPN's Coach of the Century for the way he led his UCLA basketball team to the top of the sporting world in the 1960s and '70s. Andrew Hill was a rebellious and sparingly used reserve on the squad before becoming a successful television executive. While it's doubtful that either would have predicted it at the time, the lessons imparted on the court by Wooden eventually helped Hill reach the top of his profession. And in Be Quick--but Don't Hurry, named for one of the legendary coach's ubiquitous aphorisms, the now-grateful protégé translates that sage advice into 21 "secrets" that may help others realize similar accomplishments. Like the title, the counsel can usually be boiled down into short expressions that are deceptively simple. Examples include "Focus on effort, not winning," "Balance is EVERYTHING," "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail," and "The team with the best players almost always wins." To show their relevance and power, Hill fleshes them out with solid examples from the hardwood as well as the business world. And with the track record Wooden has compiled, who are we not to take them seriously? --Howard Rothman

Nice book with helpful tips
Be Quick But Don't Hurry is a quick read, a pretty good book and a different take on John Wooden's Pyramid of Success that he utilized in coaching the most successful teams in the history of college basketball (UCLA in the 60's and 70's.)

Mr. Hill played for Wooden during his amazing stretch of championships as a backup. The book is basically a reflection of how, after 30 years, Mr. Hill recognized how much he learned from Coach Wooden without knowing he was being taught anything at all.

He discusses how the Secrets of the pyramid are transferable to teaching, business, management and even friendships.

The book is very personal and well written. If you are trying to become a leader or want to learn the keys to success you would gain quite a bit from reading this book. Most importantly, just like basketball, you have to apply these secrets until they become second nature for them to have a profound impact on your life.

For Teachers, Managers, Basketball Fans, Men and Their Wives
Be Quick But Don't Hurry is not only a great and quick read, but Andy Hill's application of the 23 "Secrets" (Wooden's Pyramid of success)that Coach John Wooden utilized in coaching the most successful teams in the history of college basketball are transferable to teaching, business, the non-profit sector, management and even friendships. Hill's touching relationship with Wooden speaks to the lives of any man who thinks of his own father, for better and worse. After 30 years, Hill recognized that his own personal success in business was fundamentally influenced by what the Coach taught him and his team mates. This book can be of good use by teachers, clergy (of which I am one), managers in large and small business, students, athletes, men and their wives who want to better understand their husband's relationships not only with other men, but more importantly with their fathers.

Excellent advice for anyone in a leadership position
The book begins with a brief summary of Hill's introduction to Wooden and Hill realization that the only reason he's made it this far is because Wooden's teachings so ingrained in his mind from his time at UCLA and that they are applicable to all aspects of life. He relates Wooden's 21 "secrets" to his business life, and demonstrates how they guided him to the top. It's amazing how perfectly these teachings fit into regular life. John Wooden is truly an enlightened soul.

In fact, I have implemented a few of his lessons into my life already, and it has made quite a difference. In a band I have gotten together, I have gone for talent, in keeping with rule #1 "The team with the best players always wins". I have gotten the best singer, the best metal guitarist and the most unique drummer. It's incredible that Wooden's teachings even apply to a heavy metal band, something at the opposite end of his spectrum. Whenever I am selected to be in a leadership position I skim this book to better prepare myself to succeed. The way these "secrets" apply to every aspect of life where success is an issue is awe inspiring.

Yep! The Secrets of expert skiing finally revealed.
An excellent book which explained the secrets of skiing in such a precise and logical fashion. The photo sequences were also helpful in seeing whether you were on the right track. I found that the moves and excercises he used in the books were easy to learn and emulate on the ski slopes. The speed of my improvements were mind blowing and the great thing about Harold's technique is that, you can take it anywhere ie. steeps, crud, bumps. This is where other systems seem to show there flaws! The Biomechanical explanations as it relates to ski movements were also a very good addition. The alignment section, showed me that I have been on the wrong path for years and helped me choose the right equipment for my anatomy and skiing ability. You will find that because his methodolgy is so simple, you will be able to analyse and correct your movements on the slope. I hope he writes a second book on skiing steeps, crud, bumps etc... you know the tough stuff.

Harald's new technique makes skiing simple
Last fall in one of the many ski publications that come to my home, there was mention of a new book by Harald Harb. Having been in instructor clinics with Harald in the past, and being impressed by his technical mastery and outstanding skiing skills, a former PSIA National Demo team member, it made me want to read his book. What struck me most about the book, Anyone can be an Expert Skier was its utter simplicity. It was devoid of all sorts of extraneous things and reached the essence of excellence.

Harb's Primary Movements Teaching System is bio-mechanically sound and thus "far more user friendly." You are using the body in a manner to take advantage of its strengths.

For people who are "intermediate skiers" it was possible to get them out of their stem christies and make parallel turns, usually in one PMTS lesson. If not, they are at least able to see how to get to parallel using exercises from the PMTS.

So, in conclusion, the door to enjoyable, exhilarating, addictive skiing is open. Take these comments, and read what Harald has to say

Stop Skidding and Start Carving!
I skidded and braked down ski slopes for years, even tried snowboarding. Harald's message is: the skis turn you; you don't turn the skis.

Carving is such and elegant and controlled way to get down the slope. Check out Harald's ski clinics

The way love is supposed to be
I absolutely love this book. This is one of the later books I read by Lurlene, but I really loved it. The way everything in the book is should make everyone today in modern life look at the way it's supposed to be. In this book, a young teenage girl who has a facial disfiguration who is in the hospital and meets a teenage boy who lives near her who has lost his site in an accident with unproperly used chemicals and they fall in love, with him not even knowing if she has outer beauty, only looking knowing about her inner beauty. Her physical state didn't matter to him even when he gained his site back because he'd fallen in love with her. That is how I think love should be. I dont' think that people should look on the outside, much like they do now, but at what's on the inside. When you are making friends you don't really look on the outside, why should you when you are looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend? This whole point makes the book one of the best I've ever read and I would suggest to anyone who absolutely loves the meaning of true love to read this book.

I'll Be Seeing You
This book is in some ways heart-breaking. I have read I'll Be Seeing You two times. It is so wonderful. Carly Mattea is freshman with a facial deformity left from a bout with cancer when she was twelve. While in the hospital with a broken leg she meets Kyle Westin who was blinded from a science experiment. The two fall in love and Carly makes him believe that she is beautiful. After Kyle gets his vision back, he visits her at the bookstore her family owns. He is angry at her for deceiving him when he learns what happened and steps out of her life forever. I have fallen in love with this book over and over again. There is a surprise at the end that I am not going to tell. Other star books by Lurlene McDaniel are Don't Die, My Love, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, Let Him Live and others. She is one of my all-time favorite authors. Definitely read I'll Be Seeing You, you WILL love it!

A Must Read!!!
This is one of the best books that Lurlene McDaniel has ever written!!

This is a story about a girl named Carley, who as a child had a tumor in her face. She had to get it surgically removed and that left one side of her face deformed. No plastic surgery could fix it. Then she breaks her leg and an infection has entered her leg. So she's staying at the hospital and befriends Reba, a girl who is stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. They become friends, then Kyle moves in next-door. Kyle is a senior at a local highschool who was left blind after a rocket ship experiment went wrong. Carley becomes friends with him and they soon develop feelings for eachother. Carley is torn between staying anonymous about her looks and telling him the truth.

This was a moving story and taught me to always be truthful from the start, because things can get pretty messy after a lot of lies.

strong self-help book
Motivational speaker and writer Judith Wright insists that the minor harmless habits are the dangerous ones that hold people prisoners within "soft addictions" that keep an individual from enjoying love and meaningfulness in life. These time filling disillusioned ruts like watching TV or surfing the Internet typically leave a person unfulfilled. Ms. Wright offers a program to eliminate or at least reduce the "soft addictions" in order to gain a more harmonic lifestyle shared with loved ones. The author espouses live everyday with the expressed purpose of achieving your goals and stepping closer to attaining one's vision rather than hide within the socially acceptable rut.

This self-help book is well written and easy to follow once the reader understands the underlying hypothesis fostered by Ms. Wright, who makes a strong anecdotal case defending her belief. The difficult part remains disciplining one's self because these "soft addictions" are so hypnotic even when one is left feeling empty afterward, but Ms. Wright offers small steps as a plan to achieve a more satiated life shared with loved ones. THERE MUST BE MORE THAN THIS: FINDING MORE LIFE, LOVE, AND MEANING BY OVERCOMING YOUR SOFT ADDICTIONS is solid advice for those who seek greater harmony within themselves.

Practical and Profound
I have read my share of self-help books. And with each one, I have found a cache of concepts and ideas but little guidance for a practical application that would really impact my life. "There Must Be More Than This" is a true exception. Certainly, the concepts (and realities) of "soft addictions" and "stinking thinking" may at first seem to be both too obvious and too overwhelming to even begin to consider conquering them. But, I found Wright's approach to offer an amazingly simple process for me to stay conscious, aware, and responsible of my choices and the effect that they have on my world and how I experience it. While the section on the costs of remaining unconscious to our soft addictions was maybe the most eye-opening and valuable, my favorite chapter was "Fulfilling Your Spiritual Hungers." Simple and profound at the same time, it left me sold on Judith Wright's message and wondering what life would have been like if my 'true' hungers had been what counted all along; and then, the thought "what if they counted now?" Now that I have finished reading this book, it's seems crazy to want life to be any other way.

Great BOOK - Great INTERVIEW!
If you read a lot of success books, you WILL enjoy this one; it really stood out. I read with a pen and hi-lighter to call out new areas of learning, so you can imagine how colorful this book looked when I got done. I had something on almost every page.

I never counted myself as having any addictions, because I don't have any serious ones. But what Judith teaches is how to carefully exam your 'soft addictions', because these on the ones that really reduce your joy, steal your time, and zap your energy.

In her book, Judith covers 8 key life skills that will bring you the right kind of More in your life:
1. Making your 'One Decision' to live a life of More.
2. Identifying your soft addictions
3. Minding your mind to break your denial and clean up your stinking thinking
4. Discovering the Why of your soft addictions and cracking your own code.
5. Differentiating your hungers from your wants.
6. Developing a Vision
7. Learning the 'Math of More' to implement your Vision
8. Developing support and accountability

I interviewed Judith Wright on "The Inside Success Show" and loved every minute. She revealed a whole new facet to personal success - getting rid of 'soft addictions.' She makes you say, I WANT MORE!"

Here's some other things you'll learn from the book:
** How Judith Wright discovered SHE WAS ADDICTED!
** Why you should examine your life carefully for soft addictions
** What you can do to separate your wants from your hungers.

** How you can get connected and become fully alive
** The 8 Key Life Skills that will help you to get ever increasing More in life
** How to rid yourself of the 'soft addictions' that hold you in defeat and failure.
** And much, much more ..

If you're tired of just getting the leftovers of life and you are ready to embrace a life of More, then listen to this interview and read her book.

Good ideas but the book didn't work for me
I would like to thank the author for writing a book to inspire people and create a more caring world.

I think my most telling response to this book is that while it is supposed to get you excited about getting involved...I read it, put it on the shelf, and don't feel any more empowered than I did before I read it (which says just as much about me as it does about the book). While I agree with the intent of most of the highlighted programs, I don't feel ready to start a community program so I would just move on to the next page. Nothing really jumped out and made me say "Wow, that sounds amazing. YES! I want to support that program!".

Some similar books that I enjoyed more are: (1) How to Make the World A Better Place and (2) The Better World Handbook which discussed how you can integrate your values and actions on a daily basis and make a difference in many areas of your life (e.g. money, shopping, community, food, politics) instead of just through volunteering or helping to set up a new community, business, or school program (like most of Global Force of One did). If you want to read a book to inspire you and combat your cynicism I would also recommend Soul of A Citizen. After reading it I immediately went and volunteered in my community.

These books are more accessible to the amount of effort you are willing to put in and did a better job of meeting me where I am and encouraging me to taking positive personal steps to improve the world and live a more fulfilling life.

Good luck improving the world and living a life worth living!

The path to total well being
John Boal's Be a Global Force of One! provides practical info on how we can volunteer both as groups and individuals. And volunteering doesn't just help the recipients, as a growing body of research and clinical observations is proving. By volunteering--and maintaining the crucial link to others--readers may improve their health and even longevity. This theory is presented in Dean Ornish's new book, Love and Survival. Boal's book takes up where Ornish's leaves off, telling readers who want to maintain that crucial human connection how to get started.

Takes up where Dean Ornish leaves off....
John Boal's Be a Global Force of One! takes up where Dean Ornish's new ``Love and Survival'' book leaves off. How so? Ornish tells us ``When you help others you also help yourself.'' He's making a point in his new tome about volunteering as one way to improve health. By volunteering, we stay connected, and Ornish says that these connections are crucial. Staying connected with others is as important as paying attention to diet, working out and all that other stuff we know we should do, says Ornish. Boal's book tells us HOW to help others--whether on an individual basis or part of a group--and provides phones, locations, and lots of motivation. A nice birthday present for anyone who wants to live to be 100.
