This is a nice, quick reference
I got this book from Amazon.com on discount. So, it was a good value. For less than $10 (including shipping) I got a book with lots of good information. This book gives a complete break down of Battleship classes. Example: The USS Michigan is of the South Carolina Class. The USS New Jersey is of the Iowa class.

Also, this book has a wonderful break down of the number of battleships in service by a decade breakdown from 1900 to 2000. The USA had 30 Battleships in service during 1910. We only had 23 in service in 1945. It was 0 in 1960.

This is a good value for the money. I build Battleshps. So, I needed a quick reference. I have been happy with the purchase.

So, fellow Battleship fan, this book is worth your money.

The best of the battleship books.
This book contains detailed info on every battleship that sailed under the american flag. One good thing about this book is that it includes at least one photo of each ship. Considering that some of these ships were built a long time ago, this is quite an accomplishment. A must have for fans of capital ships.

Excellent Summary of American Battleships
Max Newhart has created an excellent overview of Amercian Battleships. His work provides the reader with basic technical and historical information on each American Battleship from the Maine to the Montana class. This work enables students of naval warfare to follow the advancements in Battleship construction by simply turning the pages in chronological order. If you are seeking detailed information on individual ships you will need to look elsewhere. However, if you have a general interest in naval ships and you want to improve your knowlege of American Battleships this is a terrific book.

Homeschooler recommends these readers
As a homeschooling mom of a 7-year-old girl who is - make that, was - struggling with reading at every turn, let me highly recommend these books. She loves them! No more tears, tantrums, just a joyous smile of accomplishment! Take it from someone who has shopped - extensively - this is what you need for reading training without needing a master's in education yourself!

AMAZING Reading Tool!
I have shopped around for so many phonics books and did not stop until my daughter and I found this one. It is the best!

My daughter graduated from reading 3-letter words to reading independently by going through Nora Gaydos's 4 volumes. The progression of each book helped her gain confidence and the brilliant and colorful illustration lends to children developing their own insight into the story. The length is just right so children are never too tired to complete the whole book.

The stickers are also a great motivational tool. My daughter always feels such a sense of accomplishment when she finishes off the stickers for each book.

The only thing the series lacks is the availability of additional stickers so younger siblings can enjoy the process of learning to read too.

The BEST phonics books!
These books are wonderful. Truly written by someone who knows kids and knows phonics. They are colorful and attractive, the stories cute and funny, and the difficulty level is exactly right. They are just what kids need who are learning to read. I am a homeschooling mom, and I haven't found better books for this purpose! HIGHLY recommend!

Outstanding accuracy of dates & places
I was part of the original crew aboard the Missouri from Commissioning Day, June 11, 1944 until March, 1946 as a Radioman in the CR Division. Paul Stillwell did an outstanding job of giving an accurate account of dates and places involving the USS Missouri from the first bolt installed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until the present time. I use this book quite often to refresh my memory of the exact dates of various things that happened while I was aboard. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing an accurate history of the USS Missouri = BB63.

Superb Documentary
Perhaps I am a bit prejudice since I am also one of the contributors to the book. Before retiring from Civil Service (Navy) I was the configuration manager for the reactivations of the four Battleships. I was familiar with the author's previous works and was very impressed with his attention to the personal stories of the ships. After retirement, I was then free to provide the author any and all personal knowledge of the ship's reactivation period at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Paul selected the best memories I documented and included them superbly into the book. The author does not go into the technical aspects as to how a Battleship is built, leaving that up to other authors more inclined to include how many rivets were driven, etc. Though I wish he had the space to include the TRUE story of the origin of the cracked armor panel in the turret of barbette III. No, it was NOT caused by the grounding in Hampton Roads but was a heat treating surface fracture that occured during manufacture. But technical manuals are not the author's style and I am glad they are not. After all, a ship is really the culmination of dedicated and skilled human beings who built her and the ship's success is the dedication and bravery of the men who sailed her. Paul Stillwell brings this human interest across very well. And, I'm sorry, but I did not buy the book. I was sent an autographed copy by the author which I will treasure forever. Richard A. Good Fun!
Kids and Parents Love it! My kindergarten kid loves this set of books. Not only do the books progress in a logical series, building skills one upon the other, there are "study questions" and a list of skills covered at the back of each book. And, a Parent Guide to assist you in using the program.

Font Counts! Importantly, the FONT used in the book corresponds to the letter forms children use when learning to write. (For example, the "a" in the font I'm writing in is not the form used in Kindergarten printing lessons where lower-case "a" looks like a circle stuck to a stick.) The use of a "child-friendly" font enables us to reinforce classroom writing lessons by having our child copy the text of the corresponding "Now I'm Reading -- Animal Antics" book into her note pad. In this way she is building corresponding reading and writing skills at the same time.

Recommended Improvement. One opportunity for improving this set does exist --provide an index/inventory in the Parent Guide of the "Skills in this story" list now found at the back of each book. Such an index/inventory up front expedites the process of linking school lessons to the appropriate book. For example, when our child's classwork is focusing on "a,and,to, in, no, is, the" we work with book 5 "Wet Legs" that covers those words. (We made our own index/inventory by copying each of the 10 lists of skills to the back cover of the Parent Guide.)

Animal Antics.....Level 1 review from a mom
I bought this set of 10 books for my 4 yr old who is already starting to read. I had already bought 2 sets of the Bob Books. The Bob Books are good, but this set is really good. It even has colored pictures, which the Bob Books do not. This set also comes with stickers that match each story, so that when your child successfully reads a book, he/she can place a sticker on the inside cover showing that he/she has completed it! It would be beneficial for your child to have a good amount of sight words under his/her belt before attempting these books. My son knows around 40 sight words (a, the, and, he, is, it, on, can, yes, no, etc.) It made it a lot easier, because then he just needed to work on sounding out the other words in the book such as: log, fog, dog, hat, pig, wig, etc. I totally recommend this series of books for beginning readers.

An Excellent Account of This Historical Battleship
If you are interested in the history of the USS California, or just life aboard a US battleship in the 20s, 30s, or 40s then this book should delight you. It covers everything about BB-44, from the pre-building politics that made her the only battleship ever made on the west coast, to her construction and launching at Mare Island, service between the wars, the tragic sinking at Pearl Harbor, her triumphant return to serve with the Pacific Fleet, and her final demise in Philadelphia. This book combines contemporary newspaper accounts regarding the California, journals of day-to-day activities, and interviews with crewmembers to create one of the finest ship histories I have ever read. Heavily illustrated with photos and drawings, this book also contains profuse footnotes and a large bibliography. Produced by the Associates of the San Francisco Maritime Museum Library, this book is not only a great reference source, but also a thoroughly enjoyable read from cover to cover.

Great Book for Beginners
The "Essential Elements : A Comprehensive Band Method - Book 1" is a great book for a young person who is learning an instrument for the first time. There is a fingering chart in the back of the book to make looking up fingerings quick and easy. The book starts off very basic with the parts of the instrument. The easiest notes to play and finger are presented first with exercises to practice them.

Hal Leonard also offered other books that correlate (even telling you what book ,1 or 2, and what page) with some of the skills in this book. They are:
Essential Elements Movie Favorites
Essential Elements Broadway Favorites
Essential Elements Patriotic Favorites

Practice makes PERMANENT, not PERFECT.

20 minutes well spent.
This is a good book for your children to read, in the sense that it has a good lesson within it's text. Your children can learn about telling the truth. A good idea to do while (or after) reading this story to your child, is to explain to them that they can tell you anything. You don't want your kids keeping secrets from you.

Liar Liar Pants on Fire
This book really related to me because I used to have a really big lieing problem until my dad and I sat down and had a talk about not to lie. In this story Brother and Sister Bear break Momma Bear's lamp they keep telling more and more lies. But when Papa Bear comes in to help them out he helps them get everything straightened out. I would recommend this book to all parents to help their kids stop lieing.

To tell the truth?
When brother and sister are playing soccer in the house they end up breaking mama's favorite lamp! They try making up a lie to get of of the blame. But can they keep their story straight>?

This book teaches kids how it is better to tell the truth and not to lie no matter what they have done. It is a great lesson to me learned and I suggest it for any child!

BB MEET SANTA BR-PKG

The Berenstain Bears Meet Santa Bear
I gave this book four stars because it is a great book for children dealing with questions about Santa Claus. Papa Bear answers all these questions with a simple answer, "Christmas is such a special time of year that very special, almost magical things can happen. And the most magical thing of all is Santa Bear."

The Berenstain Bears Meet Santa Bear
This book is about how the cubs start wanting their presents for Christmas. Brother bear wants just a couple of things and makes a small Christmas list, while sister bear makes a really long one. Sister gets thiknking and she realizes she's being greedy.

I reccomend this book to any child who is havinbg a want problem. The point of this story is don't be greedy. This is for children 5-8 yrs. of age.

Two days after the events of "Prize Pumpkin"...
Plot: The family arrives at the mall, with the parents worried about the cubs' reaction to all the excitement of Christmas rolling around. Papa tries to assure Mama they're calm cubs... until they see them fired up in front of the new toy store, and then Sister gets even more fired up when Brother points out that Santa Bear is coming.

Eventually, Sister gets a little too carried away and makes her Christmas list a mile long. Brother explains that Santa's probably gonna think she's greedy. Sister worries about that and the times she hasn't been good. She then learns from Brother and the parents that Santa doesn't expects kids/cubs to be perfect. Then Brother tells her that presents for parents is the kids' jobs. So they get out their money and Sister shortens her list.

While visiting Santa and buying presents for their parents, Sister can't help but wonder... what Calvin wonders about Santa in "Calvin and Hobbes". By the end, Sister (and the readers) learns the true meaning of Christmas.

Bloopers and Plot Holes: I guess Stan and Jan had the artists make names for the bear-hug teddy, the pink pony, and the RC robot.

Just curious... shouldn't Papa look a little embarressed when Mama says "Calm and sensible, eh?"

Hey, how much did those gifts cost?
