Great Reading
This book has helped me understand the things I am going through, and how to cope with them. I have a hard time not living with my daughter, but this book makes it easier. It is not a quick fix it...but this book will show the ways of the "hows and whys" of what you are feeling and dealing with.

a woman's view
I am writing to say that I am divorced woman and that this book has helped me and my ex-husband deal with our seperation and helped us to better parent our children in seperate homes. It is a excellent book with loads of useful parenting techniques in this difficult situation. Not written for just the live-away dad, but for the ENTIRE family. EXCELLENT

AN OUTSTANDING COMMONSENSE APPROACH
As part of my job as a phone counselor, I often speak to fathers struggling to stay connected with their children after a divorce. I am glad to have this book to recommend. The author has a practical approach to good fathering. His suggestions are direct and reasonable. The book is of great value to parents(mothers as well as fathers) who are not living with their children. It is also a "how-to" manual that can be used by any man who wants to be a better father. The author's emphasis is always on what will best serve the needs of the children involved. I highly recommend the book to counselors who work with parents and, especially, to any father who wants to learn how to excel in his most important role.

Miles Away is always near my house
We have just been introduced to this author by a friend and can hardly wait to read her next book. She is the most up and coming children's writer we have seen in a while. And we just love the pictures, the stories, the everything....this will probably be our new favorite Christmas present to give.

Miles Comes Through
I read this book to my Grandchildren (ages 3 and 5) five times in a row. They loved it. Miles shows that you can make mistakes, but in the end he finally gets it right. The illustrations have bounce and zip.

Miles Away from Home
Silly, fun and happy read. Lots of bright and detailed illustrations. I found it on the American Book Sellers Association Kids Pick of the List for Spring 2001.

We just love this book!!

We were certainly able to relate to Miles Away from Home. We have a Golden Retriever and our family is just like Miles' family. Avila our dog, is always getting into trouble, too!! We love her just like we've become attached to Miles.

Totally Awesome
I have read this book several times, and everytime I do, it never ceases to amaze me. The truths that are revealed in the book, are truely inspirational!! Why....you may be asking??? Because, only one who has truely been broken, can explain what brokeness means...and only then can you help another in such pain. You will find in this book, what it means to be a "Wounded Healer" Joyce opens her heart so beautifully, giving us a glimps into her unworld pain...and then showing us the true path of healing. Will you choose to find the root causes to your pain...and, will you choose to put away the security of your Blue Blanket...???

Very moving and realistic
Joyce is my favorite author. She is realistic in her writings, and you know she is human just like the rest of us. In this book she shares how she finally came to grips with her relationship with her earthly father and also shares some of the responsibility for why the relationship was not ideal.

Powerful and inspriational-I keep it by my nightstand.
A powerful personal testimony of suffering, deep healing and recovery. As usual, Mrs. Heatherley is able to verbalize all the fears, pain and soaring hope that is within today's woman. I keep it by my nightstand and refer to the book often. Truly a comfort and source of hope.

I've loved this book for years
I'm a morning DJ in Atlanta that went through a divorce 5 years ago. At the time of my divorce a complimentary copy of "Putting Kids First" cmae across my desk. I thought, just another in a continuing series of self help books. I was wrong. The main problem I was experiencing was getting my son (9 at the time) to open up and talk with me about what he was feeling. Michael's book, specifically chapter 7, what the kids are thinking, allowed me to approach my son with a project. "Son, can we go through this part together?" For the next 3 hours, we sat on my bed, where we laughed, cried, got mad, and vented about how unfair it all was. It was the most healing thing he and I could have done. I've since become good friends with Michael Oddenino, and his new family. In many ways this book saved my relationship with my son, and strengthened my relationship with his mother. I've personally thanked Michael many times, and I humbly thank him again in this forum. MOBY KICKS 101.5 Radio Atlanta, Ga.

MUST reading if you're dealing with divorce.
I found this to be a well-written book filled with excellent, common-sense advice for divorcing parents. Helps you to find more positive solutions to create a 'child-centered' result during the divorce process. Another book you need to check out: Perfect Parenting The Dictionary of 1000 Parent Tips by Elizabeth Pantley (To keep you sane during the process!)

Should be mandatory for divorce attorneys, judges & parents
A very insightful book by a divorce attorney who has seen the detrimental affects divorce can have on children. I read this book when I was going through a divorce. It inspired me to take the higher road, which has gone a long way in restoring civility between my ex. & I. This has no doubt had an enormous affect on our children and their adjustment to the divorce.

Tornado Alley by Yvonne Lehman
This book is a wonderful way to introduce young teens to their first romance series. It isn't all mushy and it teaches some great Biblcal truths, making it more than just a fiction book. Tornado Alley zones in on the life of Natalie Ainsworth, a plain, sensible 16 year old girl with loving Christian parents. She eventually gets a date with Scott, a popular, rich boy at her high school. The couple embarks on a terrible night as a tornado sweeps through and changes their lives, in more ways than one! Read this book for a true-to-life story of love, heart break, and living for the Lord.-Olivia

*~* You will love it *~*
You will love Getting to know Scott and Natalie they are the most outstanding couple i have ever read. This was a great conclusion to the end of the seris but i wished there was more to them. i couldnt beleive when i found out that this was the end i want to see what will happen to RUTHIE and STICK they have gotten so close together and with Scott and Natalie. They all have a great love that can never end. I wish there was more to this series.

You'll be "swept away" by the awesome conclusion!
(Yeah, that was obvious; sorry, it was also irresistible.) This was a wonderful conclusion to a wonderful series--I can't believe I'm the first to review it. I would recommend all the White Dove books to any teenage girl--not a "bad apple" in the bunch! This final book does a great job wrapping up without telling you everything, leaving just a little to your imagination. Many warm thanks to Yvonne Lehman and I hope that she writes another series soon! I wish, though, there had been one more book in this series--the final pages open a whole new storyline that was definitely resolved *far* too quickly. (Won't say any more, other than it has to do with memories--I don't want to give anything away.) Oh well--it was just a minor disappointment, and certainly not enough to knock my overall series' rating down from five zealous stars.

To Know You is to Understand You
There are parts of life that you may never know about or understand unless an insider tells you. The author shares a part of her life that is certainly painful and retelling it must have been very difficult. However if she had not told us we would not have known nor had a chance to understand. This is a story about survival and the amazing ability of the human spirit to overcome adversity from those who you should be able to trust. This story is as great and powerful as the stories told by those who survived the WWII concentration camps. We thank those survivors who tell us their story so that we can prevent the dark past from happening again and do somthing for those who may be going through the experience now. The author tells a story that can not and should never be forgetten. You will be changed by the experience and view the world around you diffrently and it may help you protect your own family some day.

The Throw Away Kids
Gripping, honest, brutal, unsettling---these are the adjectives that best describe the tone and nuance of "The Throw Away Kids". Ms. Taggart opens up her heart and mind to the reader as she leads us down the dark corridors of her childhood. She explores the physical results of constant, daily and prolonged beatings, as well as the emotional toll of manipulation and verbal abuse. Ms. Taggart and her siblings fell through the cracks---a dysfunctional family unit, a poorly run and uncaring social service department, contributed to years of pain and unhappiness. I highly recommend this book. It is time---and the time is now---to stop throwing our most valuable resource away---our children.

The Throw-Away Kids
This book addresses real issues that community and different church leaders have to deal with. It is an eye opener and gives hope to those who have been abused. It is a success story of one who endured the worst, one who overcame it all, and is now living a happy and successful life. It is fast reading and , definitely worth it!

Gonzo Journalism Redux
Spider Jerusalem is Hunter Thompson channeled for a new generation. This series is such fun to read because even though it is set in the future it clearly comments on the state of our world today. Ellis is a new kind of Gonzo Journalist and Spider is his voice.

Ellis comments on everything from politics to love to war to constant [chemical] use and drinking. All of the Transmetropolitan books are like a visual reinterpretation of Hunter Thompson's work and bring its crash through the door of [weak], comfortable people who just thought Hunter was a character played by Johnny Depp. Anyone whoever read and enjoyed Thompson's work should shovel all of the Transmet novels into their heads immediately and love it!

A new sense of focus
This TPB is a little bit lighter than the extremely dark volumes that came before it -- Spider shakes off his depression and resumes the fight against the exploitative powers that be with new vigor. The absurd (rather than purely black) humor of the early volumes returns, particularly in the hilarious first issue of this volume, in which Spider's life is parodied in a variety of genres... Ellis' comic writing is at its peak here.

As always, however, the comedy and vulgarity are tempered by a genuinely disturbing dystopian vision of a modern Western democracy gone subtly totalitarian. Among the comics being written today, _Transmetropolitan_ is nearly unique in its skillful satirical handling of serious issues.

The plot thickens.....
Thats the best way to describe this trade paperback. In this story arc, Spider grapples with the fact that his overexposure has made him a cartoon of sorts. He decides it's time to step up with war with The Smiler, a.k.a. President Gary Callahan. I cant reveal much more, except that it's a pivotal point in the overall Transmet story. If you read the series, you must pick this up. If you don't, START, then get this one. If you cant read learn. Yes I am ranting, but it's that damn good.

Middle School & High School Use
This summer school session I taught 7-8-9 combination classes. Ruth Heller's book on adverbs was helpful. The bright pictures were just as eye-catching for a 13-year old as for a 7-year old. The language use prompted many questions from my students -- second language learners and native English speakers. We even "marched" around the campus reciting the opening ditty "Adverbs work terrifically when answering specifically how, how often, when, and where." Though the freshmen were a bit embarrassed about the march, they learned about adverbs and thought the song and march were great punishment for the class clowns.

Score one for concept-attainment lessons!
I constantly struggle to clearly present the abstract concept of the parts of speech. Heller's Language Series is a wonderful help in this task. The illustrations are beautiful, the rhyming instructional/example-filled poetry is fun to read, and the book could be used with a wide variety of ages! Thank you Ruth Heller!

Wonderful resource for teachers
Ruth Heller has a fantastic way of explaining parts of speech to children that is fun and different. I am a teacher in a middle school and I am using all of her World of Language books to open up the lesson on each part of speech. They are a bit elementary for middle school students, but sometimes that is what it takes. The pictures are also a delight and the students enjoy browsing through the book when I am finished. What a fun way to open up kids to parts of speech and the English language.

Gorgeous Illustrations
Buy this book for the illustrations. They're spectacular. You'll want to frame each one and hang them on your wall. Of just leave it on your coffee table for people to ohh and ahh over.
For anyone who can't afford an original Carla Golembe -- she's a famous artist who exhibts in Mass. and Maryland -- this is the next best thing.

good for kids without their realizing it
I find myself struggling to get my daughter to eat foods good for her body and read books good for her mind. This book accomplished what I wanted -- it teaches about a different culture, taking care of the environment, and how greed leads to punishment. It did this with an entertaining story and beautiful pictures, fully deserving it's prominent place on my daughter's bookshelf.

Great folk tale for kids of all ages!!
Why the sky is far away is a great story that teaches important ecological and moral values in a fun way. The illustrations are amazing and the story is delightful.
