Lots of fun--Images are great & Chakra Man is way cool!!
The stress-reducing games are a lot of fun and they really work! I've had a lot of success using them, especially after a stressful day at work. The Chakra Man is way cool & very infomative. The bio-feedback chip on the front cover is ingenious! Thank you Venu!!

Rockin' My Life Away: Listening to Jerry Lee Lewis

The best available book on Jerry Lee
"Rockin'my life away" is by a longshot the best book written about Jerry Lee Lewis by a non-relative.This book doesn't exaggerate things like Nick Tosches' "Hellfire" did and concentrates on the most important thing: The MUSIC. The book also credits Lewis' contributions to all the genres that he covered, including blues, country, rock 'n' roll, gospel & boogie. However, this book is not 100% perfect, either - but comes close to being so.The author compares Jerry Lee too much with Elvis Presley - who is a very different type of performer altogether as he's more pop based that The Killer. Also, not all of Lewis' songs are dealth with and there are some inaccuracies. That aside, though,it's an excellent read.

Long, but worth it.
I borrowed this book from my school library and came online to look at the reviews for this book. I have to say, I am greatly dissapointed that it's out of print and not available for others to read it.It was a good book indeed. It was really quite thick, but still worth the time. However, I feel that the author should have put in more eelings into Plain Jane. Do read it if u come across it i your local libraries.

A very good start
This is my 10th book by Ms Charlotte and it was written in 1977 so is dated thereby. It is hard to believe that Denny was so turned off by her loving Mother for no reason that I could figure. Maybe life in 1977 was badder than in 2002. The scene where Isabel goes to the house, hoping to find her daughter, is horrendous. The last page or so was weak when Mother and daughter come together. Forgive me, Charlotte, if you ever see this. I love your work and you have really grown since 77.

Strengthening Our Faith
Antoinette Bosco is an ordinary woman who has led a life of extraordinary adversity, yet through it all has developed a rich and mature faith. Her book, "Shaken Faith: Hanging In There When God Seems Far Away," tells us how she achieved that spiritual feat.

For Bosco, faith is an elusive proposition and Christian faith is not an easy answer for hard times. Instead, it is a strengthener and a fortifier, a light and motivation with which to face life's problems. Moreover, it is possible through faith to realize that no tragedy is without some meaning.

And tragedy has abounded in Bosco's life: left to raise six children on her own after leaving an abusive marriage, she has suffered the suicide of one beloved son and the senseless murder of another. She found the answer to her shaken world in the relationship embedded in her faith. Bosco teaches us to remember that faith is two-way street and that God is faithful to us as well. In God's faith, we are provided with light for our journey. We need only respond to God's gifts with the simplicity of children.

Conquering those Fears
Carol Carrick carefully explores children's fears of other people with mental handicaps. This story, set in the early part of the century, illustrates how a child's fear of the unknown and defeating rumors dissuade us from forming relationships with persons with handicaps. This book could launch an interesting discussion in a classroom about civil rights regarding persons with handicaps or a discussion about facing the unknown. Also, there is an important lesson in safety regarding blizzards.

The illustrations also add much personality to the characters, particularly the schoolmaster. I appreciated how the schoolmaster keeps Josiah, the little boy, on task.

Vinnie Got Blown Away

Cockney Rejects
If you like your crime plunked firmly in the gritty environs of East London, triple-glazed with slang, and peopled by a colorful hodge-podge of the petty criminals and a few hard cases, here 'tis. The story is a basic first-person account by a young hustler of his efforts to revenge the killing of his childhood(lum) friend, Vinnie. He's got to hustle to stay alive and put all the pieces together to pull it off, and each chapter alternates between that tale and him writing from behind prison bars. Between the two, we get a good idea of who our hero is and where he comes from. It's a fun romp. If you like this, check out the following: Throwing the House out the Window, Diamond Geezers, A White Merc With Fins, London Noir, and the film Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

Walk Away Rene'. by Hipgnosis

Author: Storm Thorgenson
Amazon base price: $25.00

why are all the good books out of print?
Written and published in the late 70's, this book tells the early story of hipgnosis with great candor. Graphics are excellent of course and the text is in a language that anyone with this interest could understand. At some points the illustrations and the text are not on the same page but the fun of the hunt to find the picture is part of the books enjoyment. This book is a great companion to Storm and Po's other books, alone and with Roger Dean.

A Useful & Utilitarian Book for Parents of Children w/ Needs
This is a very good idea for parents of children with special needs. It contains places to fill in all the information that someone other than yourself would need if your child was away from home. Grandma and Grandpa have all the phone numbers, contacts, likes and dislikes, bedtime, and more, all at their fingertips.

Far from being a strictly professionally oriented book, there's also places for likes and dislikes, daily routines, and places to fill in behaviors ("When I'm sad I...") and to fill in what would make the child feel certain ways ("these are situations that I feel aggressive/sad/happy/etc."). It would also be a great thing to have if your child ever needed to be hospitalized - the nurses and doctors would know exactly what your child needs, what medications s/he's taking, allergies, dietary needs, cultural considerations, etc.

This is an invaluable book if you have a child with needs that perhaps cannot communicate these things to a caregiver. I bought one for my daughter, who is autistic. The next time she visits family, this book will go with her, so that no one has any doubt about what they should do in any given situation. I highly recommend it!
