Incredible strength of characterChris Ryan tells his true-life tale of a secret, "behind enemy lines" mission as a member of the elite, British Special Air Service (S.A.S.) during the Persian Gulf War. Chris Ryan not only chronicles the details before, during, and after his "ill-fated" mission - but fairly well describes the actions and events leading to his choice of career.
In a nutshell, Chris' team of special operators - eight in number - are "put-down" by helicopter, behind enemy lines into Iraq. As if this weren't dangerous enough in the time of "pre-combat" Iraq, things take a turn for the worse when the entire team is compromised, or discovered by the indigenous people. A formidable military attack and pursuit entails, and so starts the "last recourse" of evasion. Following this compromise, several events occur which put Chris on a course of tragedy, suffering, self-doubt, and self-preservation. To read this book and not feel inspiration or admiration for the author is not likely.

This book will show you just what a human being will be able to do through training, fitness, willpower, and mabe, the survival instinct - not to mention the memory of family.

A keeper that all ages will enjoy! If you are familiar with Everett you will recognize the style, if you are not this is a treasure worth owning. I found it emensely entertaining. I read it to my two year old often. Although he enjoys the story and the wonderful illustrations, I am looking forward to when he recogizes the many levels of this book. This one we will enjoy for quite a while because it is timeless.

Beyond the glitter...This book describes favorite off-road trips to the rugged natural beauty of the Las Vegas desert, including the Red Rock Canyon, an idyllic contrast of deep sandstone canyon forests and desert hills in spring bloom. Alas, though much of what is described still exists, the book is nearly thirty years out of date and requires revision. Hey, I can do that! Why? I've lived in the Radiant City for thirty-five of my forty-one years.
I am heartened that this book in the most popular purchase of the Las Vegas purchase circle. It means that those who have moved here truly wish to make Las Vegas home rather than the place they cashed in their Southern Californian real estate chips.

Over the Hills and Far Away: More Stories From Southern Illinois

Over the Hills and Far AwayOver the Hills and Far Away is an imaginative, whimsical, artist's remembrance of growing from a farm girl in the Hill Country of So. Ill to getting an education in a major university, to obtaining national recognition by lonely soldiers, and courtship by a WWII "city feller."
Those of us who lived in rural America reminisce with fond memories of a simpler, gentler time. Our grandchildren who live in such a different world can glimpse the roots from whence they came.
This is a must-read delightful book of a pleasant era and the pathos of the World War II period.

Pet SafetyI find this book to have very good ideas on how to keep one's pet(s) from being stolen, on how to protect them in the case that they are, and other ways of protecting them -- from poisons, sickness and lousy kennels & petsitters, etc. The only thing that I believe would not be as valuable today are the motels/hotels they recommend that take animals -- only because this book was written in 1979 and things have most definitely changed since then! Recommended reading.

Rain, Rain, Go Away ReviewRain, Rain Go Away! is an enlightening story about two children who learn that rainy days can be just as beautiful and beneficial as sunny days. James and Shaina complain because all their plans for a fun day are ruined when big drops of rain start to fall. Their parents, however, are able to teach them a valuable lesson in the importance of the rain.
The illustrations in the story compliment the text well. The pictures are wonderfully illustrated with great color and detail. They show the reader the benefits of the rain. For example, in the illustrations, the ground and the flowers soak up the puddles of rain. At the end of the story, the children have learned a valuable lesson. The sun comes back out, and the children go outside with a different perspective about the rain.

The text is simple but cute.
Overall a great book for home or to take to church. Don't let the lack of a photo of the cover here scare you off. It's really cute and worth the price.
