This is a delightful easy-reading memoir of a young girl growing up in a very interesting time. Patricia Wolff's personal experiences are a joy to read and her descriptions of places and customs of that early forties period especially bring back fond memories for those who were also growing up at the same time.

I stumbled across this book while buying supplies for the "literature center" in my PreK classroom. The school director gave me a funny look when I showed it to her, but the children adored it. It incited tons of snickers and giggles, followed by whispers, pointing fingers, and more laughter. I've found that this book has the same effect on adults, lol. Definately a must-read.

The illustrations are wonderful... just wait until you get to the part where Jim is *actually eaten by the lion*...that naughty boy. :)

It is undoubted that any serious library of classic English humour will contain this title, for it would show complete lack of literary candour to be without this `bible of the intellect'.

I read this book with a bunch of third graders, and they thought it was too easy. Then I read it with a group of first graders and I believed that it was at their reading level. It is a great book with a great story line, and I would recommend it to any first grade teacher.

I found that Carol Otis Hurst has written a great book to help parents and educators find literature that is appropriate for children through 6th grade. Some of the literature is also advanced enough for children of middle school age. The only drawback is that there is not enough of a selection of authors or literature. The copyright date is 1991, and I feel this is a book that should be done every couple of years.

It all started thirty-three years ago when one-month-old Roscoe Langey died in his crib. Then there were the unexpected deaths of Laura Kate's father and brother in a car accident. After that, her cousin Will was swept away by floodwaters, and cousin Helen disappeared while on vacation with her two girls.

Laura Kate is convinced that something sinister is going on and she is determined to find out. With the help of Denver, whom she is falling in love with, she takes up the job of getting to the bottom of these tragedies.

LOOK AWAY FROM EVIL is a well-written book about the ultimate in dysfunctional families at their worst. I suspected every character because they all had skeletons in their closets, but I never figured out the real story. I found the author's words to be hypnotic and was held spellbound all the way up to the scandalous end.

I enjoyed reading the continuing story of the Kendall family during the aftermath of the war between the states. The courage that is shown by these intrepid southerners is a remarkable thing to see. This was a very good book, and I recommend the two highly.

This is one of the best books I have read, and I have read several. It doesn't go into great detail but it does show Kurt in a respectful light and truly lets you realize what an extraordinary man Kurt really was. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Loritts' easy to read tribute to his father is a "must read" for any father who is striving to not only "talk the talk" but "walk the walk" with his own children. This down to earth story gripped me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down until I had read the whole book through in one sitting. You won't be dissapointed by learning the lessons that Crawford Lorrits has to offer about loving God and sharing that love with your family.
