A book to be proud of!Far and Away was a breathtaking novel that told the story of a young girl, whom travels to America from Ireland in pursuit of land. The book takes place during the time farmer tenants, in Ireland, were revolting against the Irish lanlords.Shanon and Joseph find themselves batteling oppertunity and poverty and in the end they meet again during the Oklahoma land rush, in pursuit of land.

Good read for lovers of Argentina History.I found the book by chance in a rare book catalog (forgot their name). I had known about it since childhood, when as an Argentinian kid, heard of it referred as a truly authentic story about my country during the Rosas era. "Don Guillermo Hudson" as the author was referred to us, describes what the pampas of the 1840's looked like. I never read the Spanish edition. I assume that it is best read in the original and so I consider myself lucky. The description of the Rosas times through the eyes of the youth was most compelling. I recommend the book; you will love it if you like Nature and History.Lito Gutierrez

Suspenseful, moving, ironic mystery set in Hong KongThis is an unusual murder mystery set, as are most of William Marshall's books, in the fictional Hong Bay section of Hong Kong in the last several decades of British rule in Hong Kong. This time, Chief Inspector Fieffer, O'Yee, Spencer, and Auden are looking for a seemingly cold-blooded killer who is murdering Hong Kong residents who apparently have no connection to each other. As in other Yellowthread Street mysteries, it is up to Fieffer and company to figure out the connection between the crimes they are investigating. In this book, the connection is filled with irony, sadness, and greed, making this book far more than just a murder mystery. Marshall deserves to be much better known, and read, in this country than he apparently is. I hope, with Amazon.com's help, that he finds additional readers.

A Naturalist's Journey Takes You With HerJanice Emily Bowers writes from the heart, taking an unflinching look at nature - and herself - reflected in the ecology of Arizona: desert, mountains, peaks and canyons. I felt that I was right along with her on these explorations, and I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy outer - and inner - exploration.

Great Book! This book was really great. It was kind of emotional and Peter and Fina learn more about themselves and bestest best friends. In this book Fina gets a letter from her best friend, Phoebe. She decides to go back to earth to help her and Peter goes with her to help his alchoholic mother. Together they help Pheobe learn to love life a little more and get Peter's mum off alchohol. It was really hard for them, but as always, they will pull off the mission. I hope the next book is just as great.

Lonely orphan boy escapes from institutionPaul is a boy on the edge of adolescence, troubled that he's an orphan living in an uncaring institution for boys. He's not loved, not wanted, and not cared for. His only escape is in solitary sex, a few minutes respite from a bleak and desperate existence. The other boys engage in brutal relationships, for which Paul has no taste.
Symbolic of the early 1970's, when institutionalization was the norm, the novel reflects the worst of institutionalized child care.
Paul escapes, for a twisted life of freedom yet one just as hard as the one he left. He's searching for freedom, as well as to belong to someone, to love and be loved. This is a hard tale of growing up. A book for all those who would love a boy, and hate their brutal treatment.

a family of newcomers struggle to make it i a small townlona Rubenstein's "From Away" strips the facade off life in America's most famous small town, East Hampton. Her story, of a family struggling to survivedespite a dangerous undercurrent of gambling, comes alive thanks to the author's compelling prose and dead-on instincts. Her heroine, Sally Singer, provides a primer for women who have to take control of their own lives despite a series of setbacks. "From Away" dazzles with originality and is impossible to put down. It far exceeds "Further Lane' and "Plum Island" when it comes to stripping the veneer off of East Hampton and exposing all its sleazy secrets. I strongly recommend lovers of fiction order this book. You will not be disappointed.
