I loved this book!
I could really relate to this book because when I first read it, I was in a new environment too. The story is really real, and Munsch is one of my favourite authors.

Incredibly touching!
I am a teacher in a daycare and I work with children who come from different backgrounds and cultures all over the world. I have probably read this book fifty times and it still makes me cry. The kids think I'm nuts

True Story
David Grandstaff is my cousin, and I must say that this book is written so terrific even I didnt know some of these things. Definetly a must read for people intrested in true crime.

Grandstaff Gang
Absolutely brilliantly written story. I have recommended this book over and over again. I wish it wasn't out of print, because people I have talked to about it have found it hard to obtain. It not only chronicles an amazing story, but also shows the "underside" that exists in many of the larger, industrial towns in Iowa--something that most people don't know about and don't believe exists if they haven't spent a lot of time in the state. A real page turner, and while it's hard to sympathize with criminals, one has to have a grudging admiration for Grandstaff and Weir. Theft was their chosen profession and they were good at it.

Thanks
i found this book incredibly helpful in getting away with what i did... i think a sequel should include more on what to do if you actually get caught. stuff such as how legal maneuvers to make it look like your innocent. i don't think i would have looked as guilty as i am if i had read this before the cops chased me around LA.

Very good characterizations as well as a good storyline
Canadian Private Investigator Benny Cooperman is comfortably sleeping in his bed in the small town of Grantham, just outside Niagara Falls when three thugs drag him out of his house and escort him to Abram Wise, a crime boss who has never tasted prison. Abe hires Ben to investigate who and why someone suddenly wants him dead. Abe makes a disinclined Ben an offer he can't refuse.

Ben begins to investigate by talking to Abe's angry ex-spouses and his even more irate children. Ben soon finds a connection between Abe and a recently murdered ex-police officer, who apparently allowed the crime lord as a rookie thief to escape arrest. As Ben gets closer to uncovering the identity of Abe's wannabe assassin, he places himself in danger from the same culprit, who plans to eradicate one crime king and anyone else who might get in the way.

The ninth novel in the Ben Cooperman mysteries is a well written tale that should please Howard Engel's innumerable fans. However, though the story line is exciting and the engaging ending quite good, GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER is just not at the level of Benny's previous eight adventures. Benny remains as lovable as ever, but Abe seems more of a caricature (without being satirical) of Brando's Godfather, thereby leaving this book a notch below its predecessors.

The Handbook for People who are Givers
"Give to Your Heart's Content: Without Giving Yourself Away" is one of the best books available on the subject of giving. Continuous giving without taking time for yourself leads to exhaustion, frustration, and burnout. The book has some self-assessment exercises that can be used to help determine the type of giver you are. Do you give expecting something in return or do you give without expecting reciprocation? Do you take on more than you can do because you find it difficult to say "no"? Do you give so that you will be recognized for your giving or do you give silently without requiring recognition for your gift?
Once you know the type of giver you are the authors lead through several ways to change your giving patterns to ones that are more holistic in nature. Give authentically, give from the heart, give wholly, but learn where you have to draw the line so that you can continue to give in the future. In a society where we are taught that to give to yourself is selfish many people find it hard to take care of their own spiritual and emotional needs, but if we don't then our value to others is decreased. It is only by taking care of ourselves that we are able to truly help others. This is the basic message of "Give to Your Heart's Content" and it couldn't be more true. Highly recommended reading.

Balance between sacrifice and a healthy, well-adjusted life
Give To Your Heart's Content Without Giving Yourself Away by clinical psychologist and workshop leader Linda R. Harper is a practical-minded, "user friendly" book specifically written for volunteers, caregivers, and workers in social services. Focusing on how giving affects one personally, and finding balance between sacrifice and a healthy, well-adjusted life, Give To Your Heart's Content Without Giving Yourself Away is a powerful testimony and guide to enriching one's life without becoming a martyr, and very highly recommended for the non-specialist general reader undertaking a responsibility for the well-being of another individual as a caregiver or volunteer.

Hit the nail on the head
This is a very good book for those who fear close relationships. The author emphasizes that to be human is to want and need to feel connected to others. Yet, often our ambivalence toward ourselves, those in our lives, and life itself makes it difficult to reach out to others to love and to be loved.

Through reading this book, I came to understand that relationships involve enormous risk and feelings of vulnerability. The results of taking risks can be both painful and pleasurable. However, both are a necessary part of life. Without pain, we would not enjoy pleasure. The author points out that we sometimes live life as though we're fending it off or simply getting through it. He suggests instead that we think of life as an invitation, including an invitation to be loved. There are not necessarily rational reasons others may love us. We simply are loved.

The author is a Christian but the book does not come across as overly religious. I have taken books back to the store because they emphasize religion too much. This book only has some sprinklings here and there. He deals far more with the feelings and emotions his readers struggle through.

One of the best gifts you can give yourself.
Terry Hershey's Go Away, Come Closer could be one of the most unsettling books you'll ever read, yet it's also one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your identity. --Bookstore Journal

This is one of those books that is a neglected masterpiece. Read it as soon as possible.

A journey through American labor history
Going away is a brillient, poignent, funny yet deeply relfective and heartfelt book about the journey of a young man "away" from a dying america. His journey is not only through space, but through time as he revisits the places and people that he knew, worked with and fought along side. Battles, everywhere, for wage freedom and equality by workers against corporate bosses, old friends and comrades he meets. This book is powerful and entirely worth reading, and rereading.
