Spiritual Traveler - A Book ReviewReview Date: 2002-11-02
Riaz Manji’s "A Handbook for the Spiritual Traveler"
In the fall of 1991, Riaz Manji looked down upon the raging river from atop a bridge in Calgary. He was a mere step away from ending his life. But something within him stopped him. This was the beginning of his spiritual journey and transformation.
For over a decade he read some 300 books that dealt with issues related to the meaning of life and spiritual search. His book captures some of the wisdom promulgated by giants in this field, including Shirley MacLaine, Edgar Cayce and Deepak Chopra.
Riaz begins by giving the reader an intimate look into his life. He begins to weave a poignant story that spans his childhood to that ill-fated day in the fall of 1991. His writing style defies any norm adopted by the majority of the best-selling authors today, giving this opening chapter a very personal and a very honest touch.
The next twenty-four chapters resemble capsules of wisdom to be reflected upon one at a time. Each chapter deals with a different subject and each subject is introduced to the reader with personal anecdotes as well as examples gathered from the innumerable sources consulted during the author’s spiritual quest.
Riaz tackles topics such as Near Death and Out of Body Experiences, Mind over Body and Meditation and Prayer. He even grapples with UFOs and of course, Suicide.
In a chapter entitled Meditation and Prayer, Riaz shares some basic concepts developed during his Yoga training. He gives personal accounts of spiritual experiences during his meditative states and implores the reader – time and time again – to seek answers to the mysteries of life from within.
The handbook is truly just that – a guide containing ten years of wisdom sparked by divine providence. It is for those who wish to awaken their inner vision through establishing a one-on-one relationship with God.
This book will not only appeal to those who have taken a personal leave from their churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples – but will also appeal to those who seek to enhance their relationship with God through their religious orders.
Where else may one find 10 years of accumulated wealth of spiritual knowledge encapsulated in bite-size chapters to rekindle the spirit within? "A Handbook for the Spiritual Traveler" takes an enormous step towards healing a soul afflicted with the pain and sorrow caused by separation from God.

A book for both music and art loversReview Date: 2001-02-27
My friend Jan, gave me this as a Christmas gift because I love to sing and it reminded us of a time when a group of friends spent time around the piano singing carols together. One of the nice points about this book is that in many cases up to 6 verses of the songs are given so that you can spend as much time as you like on your favorite carols without repeating the words.
What really makes this book exceptional are the wonderful illustrations that accompany each composition. These are of paintings that are in the National Gallery in London. A few of the pieces are: Christ Glorified in Heaven by Fra Angelico; The Madonna of Humility by Lippo di Dalmasio; and A Winter Scene by Isack van Ostade. The index of the book gives the artist, and a bit of information on each of the paintings.
I highly recommend this book to musicians and anyone interested in art.

Delightful, Very Funny, EntertainingReview Date: 2007-05-14
Bellflower's antics, feelings and observations are told in her own words. Some are recorded in her "Personal Private Keep Out This Means You" journal.
On a cold December night, Bellflower is visited by and angel in her attic bedroom. This is the beginning of her adventures with Harold (an Angel) as together they meet the challenges of trouble, mystery, and intrigue. Harold helps Bellflower learn about Jesus, salvation, the Holy Spirit, and how to live in the power of his blessings, as she develops the use of her spiritual gifts.
A generous number of creative cartoon like illustrations help the reader visualize the characters and action in the narrative. The story is compelling drawing and holding the reader's attention right up to the surprise climatic ending.
"Harold and I" is the first in a series of books for the young reader ages 8 - 13 that will feature stories of visitations by angels and the impact of their presence in the world.
Award winning author and remarkable communicator, Marie Chapian is well versed in angels and supernatural phenomena. Marie writes from her own experiences, understands children, and has a delightful sense of humor.
Although written with teens in mind, this is an excellent book for family "read aloud" times. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Like all these cards, there is the deck plus a book to provide more info than that on the card. So you draw some cards and see what you get. You can ask a question first, or you can ask for general guidance. You draw the number of cards the book tells you to, or that you believe appropriate. Personally, I like to do things by the number 3. So, lets say you shuffle and draw 3 cards. Oh WOW! I just drew "The Unicorn of Unity Consciousness"--the card of polarity balance and oneness with all that is--links Raphael, Gabriel, Mirabiel, Dokiel (Gabriel is a very important Archangel to me. He also loves to travel with creative people, including writers and musicians). There is a full page of very small print that follows that tells you what the card means. I tell you what, it sure rings right with me. I mentally asked for guidance right before I pulled these 3 cards and asked if I was moving "forward". Laugh if you want, but the answers I just received mean something to me--BIG TIME! I also drew the "Solar Lion with Ankh of the Sun Lords" which again mentions striving toward oneness of spirit. It also mentions Adam Kadmon, which means something special to me, as well as other things that do. My third card was "Eth: Guardian Angel of Time", which also provides a full page of info that really means something to me.
Whether you believe in using these cards for guidance or you just want to play with them, they are cool to have--and this set is really nice. I'll tell you this, though, I have drawn from the deck several times, and so far, I have received what I believe to be useful guidance.
OK, so if you think I'm nuts, that's OK. Normal? Been there. Done that. It's overrated!
If nothing else, play with the cards to awaken your inner child, so he/she can play once in awhile. People are too darned serious and too darned stressed these days. Let a little peice of you come out and play once in awhile, and DARE TO IMAGINE, like you did when you were a child.

Help for the GrievingReview Date: 2006-05-07
More than discussing angels, the author looks at the Bible's writings on heaven -- how do people live there -- are they with family and friends -- and are they grieving, too? For Christians who have lost a loved one, this book can help.
For those about to die, reading these pages may help them cope with a natural fear of death.
