From Hiragana through the nuances of conversational speech-this book contains it all. Its weakness lies only in its age and
the slight outdatedness of the text. Also, the author is Italian and in some of his translations are a little bit off (the
Romance languages interpretation of the adjective "expensive" as meaning "dear.)
For that I recommend this book to any Japanese learner from an established beginner student through advanced, any student who can differentiate between the levels of politeness and some phrases and structures that are out of date.
But it's an amazing comprehensive friend to guide the student through the study of Japanese language.

This book offers insights into the structure and function of various skn and hair conditioning agents. It is of interest to
the formulator of cosmetic products, or to sophisticated consumers wanting a better understanding about products they buy.
This book should also be of interest to textile formulators, since many of the same products can be transferred over into
the textile market. Good addition to technical library.

As the leading civilian authority on the U.S. Secret Service, I get a kick out of Marty Venker: he is alot like one of his
evident heroes, Brooks Keller (the wild former agent chronicled briefly in both his book and Dennis McCarthy's). Venker's
book, actually 'written' by George Rush, is a funny yet informative chronicle of a square peg in a round hole---Venker, the
wild child, trying to conform to rigid, structured, pressure-packed duty as a Special Agent. The lack of an index will frustrate
you (at least in the paperback), but there are many nice nuggets and anecdotes to be found here. Get this at once!

I have been part of the Conn Biological Stains 'family' for over 30 years, and this latest edition is certainly as useful
as its predecessors. Dr. Horobin has brought the same kind of expertise as did Dr. Frank Lillie in his two volumes. The
problem, of course, is the cost. I purchased my copy used in 2003 for $75.00, and while I would pay the price to have it
were I still in the market, its purchase would be a serious sacrifice. My opinion is that this specialty book resides best
on the shelf of someone who is not only interested in/devoted to histochemistry (including fluorescence microscopy), because
for one to be a specialist, one must have a reasonable collection of references. This book is a VERY special reference.
It is so unique, that I cannot imagine a library at a university with a course in histology or histotechniques without a copy.
Thus, before the price goes to $500, get the libraries to purchase the book, and shop around for a better deal than is found
here at this time. This book is not only the best in its class, it is the only member of its class.

Description: Master of Law (LL.M.) thesis
Pages: 140
Report Date: 2001
The ever-increasing convergence of U.S. military and commercial space activities poses new challenges to the viability of the legal concepts that have traditionally governed the use of outer space, and particularly the military use of space, from the beginning of the space age. This paper looks at two examples of where the melding of U.S. military and commercial space activities necessitates a reexamination of the applicable legal theories. Part I examines the concept of self-defense in outer space, by considering the legality of the use of conventional military force to defend against "cyber-attack" on its commercial space assets. Part II examines the concept of the use of outer space for "peaceful purposes" under international law, by focusing on the permissibility of military use of the International Space Station. Petras concludes that as private commercial entities increasingly take their place aside state actors in outer space, understanding the impact of space commercialization on the law governing military-related activities in outer space becomes more-and-more important to policymakers, military planners, legal scholars and space law practitioners alike.
Originally produced as a thesis in fulfillment of Master of Law (LL.M.) degree requirements at McGill University's Institute of Air & Space Law in Montreal (available online from Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, at: http://www.au.af.mil/au/aul/bibs/space06.htm), the work was subsequently published in 2002 as two separate law review articles: one in the Air Force Law Review (U.S. Air Force) and the second in the Journal of Air Law and Commerce (Southern Methodist University). Preeminent space law pioneer and scholar, Professor Ivan Vlasic, praised Petras' work as "original and innovative" and "very well written." A retired senior Canadian Air Force officer who reviewed the thesis said it was the best he'd read in the almost 20 years as an external thesis examiner at McGill. Petras completed the LL.M. program in 2001, graduating with highest honors.

Hawkins is one of the few educated men (ex US Senator from North Carolina) who lived among the Indians, ate with them, treated with them, talked to them in their homes and counsels, and made daily journals. I consider it one of the most important tools I have seen for learning about Creek Indian life in the Georgia/Alabama area.
One of the most interesting accounts is when Hawkins is "accosted" in the night by an amorous Creek lady who offers herself as well as her wordly goods to his management. At the time he is getting on in age with a bad case of gout and she is 25 years old. It seems that he turned her down but the fine details of the incident are most interesting and revealing of customs.
For all intents and purposes, Hawkins is the leader of the Creek nation after Chief McGillivray's death (1793) untils its demise in the Alabama/Georgia region.
Some of the most interesting parts of the book are the speeches or talks given by the various town chiefs. The names of all the chiefs, traders, and white residents are listed as well as the people who travelled through the country and had to get passports from Hawkins. The book is full of Creek terminology which is colorful and descriptive such as "he who cannot get enough land" and similar things. Hawkins delights himself in learning and recording the language.
Its apparent that the Creek Indians loved and trusted Hawkins and that he had their best interests at heart, although he was a US government employee bound to do the will of Jefferson which was to "civilize" the Native tribes which in the end caused them to implode in a civil war which destroyed the Creek Nation established in Alabama and Georgia.
This is an invaluable tool for the scholar and a fun read for the casual student. It is packed full of fine details, lists, bookeeping entries, which can easily be scanned over by those who dont need the details. There are gold nuggets here for the research scholar.
Thanks to the Alabama Press for publishing this important historical account.
