California Real Estate Exam Book Review

Review Date: 2008-05-22
Just so you know my level of expertise -I am just starting to study for the California Real Estate Exam, so I'm true beginner. That being said, I've really found this book to be everything I wanted. It comes with 4 practice tests, the answers to all the tests (of course) and breaks down all the information into easy to understand sentences and paragraphs. I ended up making flash cards for each of the reference terms featured in bold print. I had my mother look over the book (she's a retired real estate agent) and she agreed this is certainly the book to get. I'd definitely recommend it! I'd also recommend buying this book with the California Real Estate Cliff Notes book Amazon has available. The Cliff notes has extra exams for practice! I looked at several books under this subject and am confident I made the right choice. Hope this was helpful!

I am a pharmacist working in an oncology setting. I prepare, dispense and review many chemotherapy orders and have found Dorr's handbook an invaluable tool. This reference brings together not just the usual dosing, side effects and other standard information found in the other references, but, also provides information on 'off-shelf' uses as well. This book is a MUST HAVE for any practitioner in the hematology/oncology field.

A must-have for anyone diagnosed with cancer!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-09-04
Unless you have one of the rare cancers that has a greater than 98% 5-year survival rate, you need to seriously consider being part of a clinical trial.

This book tells what clinical trials are, details the differences between Phase I, II, and III clinical trials, and tells how to find trials that may be of interest to you. The most important part of the book details how to educate yourself to read the informed consent document and the experimental protocol, and how to choose a trial. It details the good and bad experiences that patients have had with doctors and with clinical trials.

Whenever a new treatment is hailed for cancer, it came through clinical trials. If you want the best possible treatment for you or a loved one, you need to read this excellent book, and then make an informed decision.

When I first entered graduate school in 1999, I became interested in cancer immunology. My focus shifted slightly in the middle of my graduate program. Buying this book was a fantastic way to review older concepts and studies in the is field as well as quickly come up to date with current approaches and ideas. I highly recommend this text. It's also very well written and clearly organized.

A Scalpel for Dissecting Class Decomposition
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-15
This book is fantastic. It's about time that the greater interest shown in workerist / autonomous Marxist thought and politics has translated into publishing some of Christian Marazzi's work in English. If Toni Negri's work provides one with a giant hammer for smashing through the mystifications of class reality, Marazzi conversely provides a set of finely sharpened blades and scalpels for the dissection of processes of class decomposition. Of particular interest and usefulness is his exploration of fiscal crisis of New York City during the 1970s, and how that proved to be a turning point is the disciplining of the working class as pension funds were invested into stock markets (thus workers came to have an interest in the workings of financial markets that were both benefitting and working against them). It is unfortunate this book was not published several years earlier, as the fact that Marazzi is analyzing an earlier financial crisis (namely the one relating to the new economy bubble) might suggest to one that this book is old hat (it is strange, for instance, to be reading commentaries and analysis involving a number of companies that only recently have ceased to exist), but this is not the case. The dynamics of financialization and class composition that Marazzi are all the more present, even if having changed exaggerated since he wrote this book, within the conjunction of factors leading to the current crisis. Definitely worth a read. Looking forward to more of his work being translated and published.

"cardiology thriller"
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-04
if anyone had told me earlier that entire cardio-vascular therapeutics could be packed into a small pocket-size book of 500 pages, i would have been amused... that is until i read m.gabriel khan's cardiac drug therapy when this amusement changed into amazement. not only this is an excellent, concise and upto-date book on treatment, but it is so easy to read and digest that it appears to be a thriller akin to perry masons's exploits.
his views on beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers are very important and in broad agreement with us.
i think it is by far the most precise and unambigous handbook on cardiovascular treatment i have ever come across.

The parts I read were exceptional
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1999-09-24
I am an M.D. but not a cardiologist. I looked at this book for a very specific purpose. I wanted to learn about nutrients as adjunctive therapies in heart disease. My interest in this topic arose because a family member, who has CHF, is not getting adequate relief from his medical regimen. This text is clearly not a nutritional or alternative work; it is very mainstream and the vast majority of the text is devoted to usual pharmacotherapeutic topics. But unlike almost any other book I saw, this one devoted short, hightly focused, and serious review coverage to cardioactive nutrients like L-carnitine, fish oils, taurine, and coenzyme Q-10.

The parts I read were well written and well thought out. I also glanced through the rest of the book and it appears to be a text that the authors worked dilligently to make into something truly exceptional--not just a bunch of review articles thrown together. The entire book seemed to be nicely conceptualized and nicely laid out.

The truth is, I almost bought the book just out of interest, even though I do not practice and therefore had no direct need for it. My guess is that clinicians and fellows, especially cardiologists but probably also internists, and perhaps critical care specialists and some others as well, might find this a very interesting and helpful addition to their personal reference library.

As for the nutrients discussed in the book, I had previously done extensive literature searches in MEDLINE and came away impressed by the body of evidence suggesting that these may be helpful in many cases and harmful in practically none. After exploring the issue, I was frankly amazed that some of these nutrients are not more widely used as adjunctive therapies in many cardiovascular conditions. The evidence for efficacy is in many cases not yet unequivocal, but the safety is generally so high, and the cost so low, and the evidence for efficacy is in many cases quite suggestive and impressive. Given this, I suspect that a reasonable analysis of potential costs, risk, and benefits would, in many cases, come down in favor of supplementing traditional therapies with nutritional therapeutic agents.

But I digress. I certainly don't want to leave readers of this review with the impression that this is a flakey or lightweight book; it is not. The coverage devoted to the topics I mention is impressive but short, and the main focus is elsewhere.
