I highly recommend "5 Minutes to Great Real Estate
Ad" by John D. Mayfield, as a very valuable real
estate tool in attracting potenial buyers in your
local real estate market.
As a broker for many years, I found one of the most time consuming and difficult tasks each week, was preparing original, clever and creative ads that sound
interesting and make that buyer want to see the property. The same old boring ads that so many real estate companies submit leaves very little to the imagination of a very serious buyer looking for "that very special home, farm or business opportunity." The clever headings and information in this book
will prove very valuable to the broker or advertising manager whose job is to make those phones ring!!! I just wish I had had this book 25 years ago!"
I must admit this is my son, whom I am very proud of!!!

Provocative images. Breif, sharp segments. A Keeper.

A marvelous treatment of modern life. Laderach's fractal compilation of short statements and characterizations of people or places is a visual tone poem of words. Not written in the superficial "modern vignette" style but strong and fruitfull to read. It develops its own pace and refused my efforts to hurry things along. This book is best read once, then browsed at will. I can recommend this for anyones library

Reports Presented at a Symposium
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-27
The development in recent years of the theory of dynamic games has resulted in discovering that the theory of dynamic games has applications in several areas outside game playing.

For instance, in zero-sum stochastic games the players do not observe the progress of the game fully, but only in bits and pieces. This is the same situation normally found in business, the military, environmental studies, and certainly in economics. The managers in any of these has to make decision based on partial knowledge, some of which may be wrong.

This book looks at game theory in the light of expanding the theory into real life situations where recent advances offer the potential of shedding light into decision making. It is an edited book, with authors from around the world that presented papers at the 10th International Symposium on Dynamic Games held in St. Petersburg, Russia. As such, this is not a book for the beginner in game theory as it presents new advances assuming that the reader has a basis of understanding in game theory.

A welcome addition to the literature on Intelligent Agents!

This book is an excellent reference book on evolutionary design of intelligent agents. It is a welcome addition to the growing body of literature on intelligent agents in general, and evolutionary approaches to synthesis of such agents in particular. One of the editors, Professor Honavar, as amply demonstrated by his other publications, has the rare ability to interrelate an amazing diversity of perspectives on Artificial Intelligence - from symbolic methods to neural networks and evolutionary apporaches, to uncover the shared principles and common foundations, and show how different paradigms can be brought together in synergistic ways to advance our ability to design and analyze intelligent systems. This book includes chapters written by some of the leading experts in the field. The first chapter provides an excellent introduction to the topic. The rest of the chapters provide a veritable feast of material ranging from design of sensory systems for robots to current research on design of software agents. Most of the chapters, although they describe some of the latest research in this area, are written in a style that is accessible to even an interested layperson. (My 15 year old daughter has enjoyed reading several chapters). The book should be especially useful as a reference to graduate students and researchers interested in artificial intelligence, machine learning, evolutionary computation, software agents, and computational evolutionary biology. It should also be useful as supplementary reading for a graduate or upper level undergraduate course on evolutionary computation, computational intelligence, or a related area or as a primary text for a seminar course. I recommend this book enthusiastically to everyone who is interested in the science and engineering of intelligent agents.

Excellent -- for medical professionals, survivors, family and friends

This book fills a very important void. As a psychologist working with many breast cancer survivors, I have witnessed the harm that occurs when women report disturbing symptoms, and are unable to find validation that these symptoms are real, and are, indeed, associated with breast cancer treatment. We know that human resilience is enhanced when the person suffering is able to share her experience with others. Knowing that she is not alone, and that she is not imagining the symptoms, will certainly enhance a woman's willingness to share. Rather than purely theoretical information, the book provides personal stories of numerous women. Not only do their stories illuminate common physical symptoms, but also, the emotional experience of having these symptoms, and of having breast cancer. My hope is that these first person accounts will influence researchers to examine the side effects of treatment. Until we find ways to avoid the side effects, we can, at the very least, validate the reality that breast cancer survivors endure.

The authors have treated the women, and the subject, with remarkable sensitivity. The book is extraordinarily engrossing. I highly recommend the book to women undergoing breast cancer treatment, to their family members and friends. And I strongly encourage the health care professionals to read the book, and consider sharing it with their patients.

Agents of the Past

Review Date: 2000-07-04
Dobres and Robb's Agency in Archaeology is the first critical look at how archaeologists use and define the concept of agency. This edited volume brings into focus some of the benefits as well as some of the pitfalls of using an agency framework. The editors do not offer any clear definition of agency, instead, they present a background on the theoretical works influencing the concept of agency and a series of contributions by various authors on the use and idea of agency.

What I enjoyed most about the volume is the diversity of the contributions. The editors did a great job in choosing authors with varied interests. We see how archaeologists working in both the old and new worlds have used agency as a way of describing the past. Contributions are also varied in the time periods and types of societies examined. Some of the studies examine hunter-gatherers while others focus on the founding of prehistoric states such as those found in Mexico.

Overall this book is important to both archaeologists who use an agency framework and those who find it problematic. Not only does this book give the first clear look at agency as a concept, but it also examines where agency fits in regard to other theoretical concepts such as: feminism, processual, and post-processual thought. In conclusion, I would recommend this book to all serious students of archaeology, especially those interested in archaeological theory and what constitutes archaeological knowledge.

Cute ending to a great 3 book series!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-24
All three books in this Agent Boo miniseries (volumes 1-3) are wonderful "secret agent" stories for young kids. My 8-year-old son loved them all and was sad that there wasn't another one to read. He could barely wait for the next volume to arrive from Amazon.com after we had read the first book. Main character is a 4th grade girl who was chosen by a grumpty sidekick cat named Pumpkin to be a secret agent - a heroic job usually reserved only for graduating series in this science fiction/super agent story. The book is written/illustrated in an interesting part paragraph/part graphic novel format. Read the books in order as they form their own little mini-series where volume 1 is the beginning and volume 3 is the conclusion. Volume 3 is a really cute ending to the mini-series with a wonderful message. I hope the author doesn't stop here and that there will be more Agent Boo stories to read.
