This is the very best book I have read regarding the Japanese invasion of Manchuko 1931-1945. Mr. Vespa exits Harbin, China just ahead of the Japanese Police. His family are captured and treated horribly. His stories correspond with what my friend General "C" told me. They were friends in this conflict and the General had the higest regard for the man he simply called "Vespa". You will enjoy this book! My granpa's uncle was an adventurer

I have been listening stories on "Zio" (uncle, in Italian) Amleto since I was a kid. He was my grandfather's favourite uncle. My granpa was so proud of the man that took his own family and life by surprise, deciding to leave everything to fight for things he believed in. I used to dream of this courageous man who left a small town and a poor family in the Italian countryside to fight the Mexican civil war without blinking. I re-lived his life through my grandfather's words, his travels through Eastern Europe in an era when no one dared to do so, marrying a Polish Countess and taking her along to Asia; i went through a rollercoaster of emotions imagining trains blowing up, real james bond type action, a glamourous life and such an un-glamourous death. I read the letters Amleto Vespa wrote his family back in Italy, his fear of being killed without seeing his loved ones. My great grand uncle lived his to the fullest and travelled distances to realize whatever his dreams might have been. Secret agent of Japan is a simple and wonderful book that tells you how life was for a real spy in the Orient during early-mid century. Needless to say this book is dearest to me, and I hope that some of you will take the time and patience to read it.

If you've never felt God just wasn't listening, good for you. The rest of us can relate to Rachel, who has reason to be worried and afraid. She is losing her home, her family is in danger, and she believes she was betrayed by the man she loves.
Now she has trouble trusting God, but when she turns to Him, He is there.
Heartwarming and poignant, Mignerey tells a story of love and forgiveness. It's not surprising this book won a Top Pick award from Romantic Times.

This one has a relentless villain, a predictor who plays head games. Shadows of Truths, heroine, Rachel Neesham feels completely victimized, terrified for herself and for her small children and her aging minister father.

She's being threatened, is also in danger of losing her house, and to make matters worse, the man who she believes betrayed her, the man she's in love with, DEA agent Micah McLeod has come back. Will he cast suspicion onto her again, further ruining an already damaged reputation. With all this going on Rachel has lost her faith.

Can Rachel get herself to trust God again? Can she trust McLeod, who seems to never say quite the truth? This is ultimately a story about trust, about love casting out fear. The novel is well written and fast paced. I didn't want to put it down and was sorry when it ended to say good-bye to the characters.

Abram Hoffer has changed the world. Pauling recognized the importance of Hoffer's work in the 1960's.
You can't go wrong buying and learning the world of Abram Hoffer. Fifty years from now Hoffer and Pauling will be recognized for bringing medicine out the "dark ages" of cut, burn and poison.
The next generation of research is already being built on Hoffer's work but Hoffer was the pioneer and it's best to understand the source.
Your doctor is most likely 50 years behind Hoffer's work. Leave the forces of "Darkness" (medicine for greed and profit) and enter the world of Light (applied nutrient knowledge).

I purchased this book because of my interest as an Alzheimer's caregiver. The stories told of Dr. Hofer's experiences with the cureative aspects of Niacin were a revelation to me even though I have been searching the Internet for answer's to the progression of my wife's diaganosis of Alzheimer's symptoms.

The book led me to begin experimenting with Niacin and the results so far have been encouraging but not yet completely evaluated.

Thanks! Lowell

A both stunning and candid look into the life of a woman in the FBI
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-14
Candice DeLong's father wanted her to do something besides going into the FBI. He didn't view it as a femine thing to do. However, she went for it, passed the FBI Academy at Quantico's high standards with flying colors, and proceeded to embark on a rewarding career as a woman in a field dominated by men. She candidly discusses her work on cases and her personal life during those 20 years. She is able to address the sometimes sexist views held by her male peers without causing tension. I highly recommend this book. It provides both a good look into the FBI, and good information that every person should know.

I picked this book up on lay over at O'Hare, it was so engrossing I was annoyed at having to stop reading to board my plane. Candice Delong brings you into her life so thoroughly you feel like she's a close friend by the end, and you want more. A truly amazing women she stands for equal rights and feminism in a way that speaks to everyone. This book will appeal to a wide range of audiences, and is definitely worth picking up!

Steal Back the Mona Lisa was recommended for children 3-5 by our local library. Our daughter wanted to read it repeatedly and didn't want to return it, so we have purchased a copy.

Our daughter completely loves this book. In particular, she enjoys spotting the "crooked crooks" in the airplane and in the restaurant. I give the librarians credit and highly recommend this book for other children age 3-5. Good book for boys or girls -- would work as a birthday gift for both!

I found this on my library's "new books" shelf, and my boy and I loved it. Great for kids as young as 3-4 (like mien), up to maybe 9-10?

Jack is a boy who wakes up to discover he is a secret agent. Some crooks have stolen the Mona Lisa, and he must use his gadgets and his wits to get it back. (Actually, Jack's probably just sleeping. ... Or is he?) We liked it so much, we'll buy another copy for the birthday of my boy's pal, named Jack. (BTW, kids who like this book might also enjoy "Agent A to Agent Z".)

We read it again this morning at breakfast, and we both agreed Meghan McCarthy should turn this into a series. Jack is a great adventure character for young kids, and those are very hard to find. Tintin is way too old. Dora is fine if you're 2 or 3, and maybe Diego to 4, but they're too didactic, constrained, and nowhere near as fun as Jack. Please, Meghan, give us another!

BACK IN THE DISTANT HAZY PAST I WENT TO VIETNAM AND THE THINGS THAT I WITNESSED AND LIVED THERE CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. TANGERINE SKY BROUGHT IT BACK INTO FOCUS IN A POSITIVE WAY. IT AMAZES ME THAT A LADY WRITER HAS THE PERCEPTION TO SO VIVIDLY PRESENT SO MANY SEGMENTS OF MY EXPERIENCES THERE.

EVERY VETERAN OF THE VIETNAM CONFLICT, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, WITH ANY SERVICE, WILL ENJOY THIS GREAT BOOK. IT WILL BE A BOOKSHELF KEEPER THAT WILL BE READ AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Gutsy and gripping...superb....I couldn't put it down.

Tangerine Sky is superbly written, gutsy and gripping as it follows the emotional destruction of a Vietnam veteran and his family. Clearly, Barbara Fleenor Turner wrote this novel from painful first-hand experience. It's not fun, but it's a rare jewel, and I recommend it with enthusiasm.

"Thief Of Hearts" is a wonderful story of two middle-aged people who find each other. The characters, Annie and Jack, are finely drawn and interesting people. The e-mails between them are innovative and breathtaking. I loved this book and highly recommend it for a quick, light read.

This book is for anyone that enjoyes and cares about our American Wildlife. With little support from the government and even less cash,Terry Grosz and his officers performed miracles to catch all sorts of bad guys. Just how this was accomplished is what makes it so interesting. This book will leave you laughing, crying and angry enough to write to every official you can reach. Terry loved what he did and it shows in every paragraph.

Everyone of his books are a collection of an incredible man's service to fauna, flora and mankind. Do not miss a single one of his books!

This book is not just for real estate professionals. It can be used by paralegals, notary signing agents, homeowners, ... anyone and everyone who is involved in real estate transactions and who wants to gain a better understanding of what title insurance is and is not. It's an excellent text for self study, and it lends itself well for use in a classroom for continuing education courses. It can be used by the novice as well as the expert.

Each of the 6 chapters begins with a set of clearly defined learning objectives. You will know from the beginning what you will be able to do when you have completed the chapter. There is also a list that contains many key terms. Just about every conceivable term that relates to title is included in these lists. At the end of the reading there is a summary. Each chapter concludes with review questions to test your knowledge. There are also stimulating discussion topics. You can attempt to answer them on your own, or they can be used by classroom participants.

It would require too many words to say in this review what you will learn from this book. There is so much that you will learn. This is one of the most thorough treatments of title insurance that you will find. You will learn what title companies do, what title insurance is and the benefits of it, the truths about title insurance versus the many myths about it, how to read a title commitment, all of the things that can affect title, the various types of title insurance policies, the steps involved in the title insurance process leading up to the closing and issuance of a title policy, the role of the title abstractor and other key participants in the title process, and so much more. There is not a single wasted word in this textbook.

The last several pages, which make up the appendix, contain title insurance forms and samples. You will be able to see what an actual title insurance policy looks like and all of its stipulations. In addition to the key terms listed in each chapter, there is a glossary of terms at the back of the book. If you answered the review questions at the end of the chapters, you can evaluate yourself with the answers that are provided at the end of the book.

The author, Jeanine Johnson, is highly qualified to write a book on this subject, having served in many different positions and facets in the title insurance industry. If you're looking for just one book to learn about title insurance, I highly recommend this textbook.

A powerful and disturbing thriller

Janvier Tisi effectively carries the reader into the mind and life of a psychopathic killer with a good mission. This gripping and tragic insight into the land, its history and the characters that try to be heroic eventhough they are all victims is a suspense-filled thriller.I wonder if the president and his men have any real understanding of the system's purpose or goals.

I know this work of fiction is based on terrible truths. Haunting and compelling though it is, I liked the moments of romance and the poetic presentation of Gavin's soft side.

Worthwhile

Review Date: 2005-07-04
This is an engaging and well-written story involving intelligence in a dictatorship, geo-politics, personal relationships and the tragedies from political conspiracies. The author used real events in history and real places in the world, and weaves them into this great thriller without making the history to overshadow the underlying story.

The characters are true to life and are well developed for this type of novel. The story moves fast and creates suspense in an incredibly satisfying way. Psychopath or professional killer, victim or villain? These are some of the questions I found myself asking about Gavin after reading this book. He is both the hero and villain that one cannot help loving and hating in turns. However, I ended up pitying him. This is a great work from a debut author that will stand up to the test of time. I enjoyed every minute of reading it. Five stars to its credit.
