Bauer does an excellent job of explaining the basics and details of pharmacokinetics; this book is great guide for both students and practicing clinicians. Many pharmacokinetic residents and fellows live by this book and it came highly reccommended to me by experienced clinicians.

As you read this text it becomes apparent that it was written by an in-the-trenches clinical pharmacist. It focuses on the practical application of pharmacokinetics in patient care. The text is very readable, written in an easy to follow style. The tables and illustrations are well presented, providing insight to the topic. There are chapters on aminoglycosides, vancomycin, digoxin, antiarrhythmics, anticonvulsants, cylcosporine, lithium, and theophylline. Each chapter contains practical step-by-step examples for both initial dosage determinations and serum level analysis. But you'll need to look elsewhere for pediatric pk information, application to peds is limited.

"What is the function of Primitive war?"

The answer, to create dispersal, the prevention of power accumulation and the unified hierachical state. This is one of the central thesis' in Clastre's "Archaeology of Violence". In it he argues that along with the defining of territorial limits( which provide incentives for a stabilized population ), the primitive war behaves in the opposite manner of the classical war, seeking dispersal and reductions of power, rather than the accumulations of it. By preventing tribes from becoming unified, the emerence of the state is avoided. Also examined is concept of chiefs with no power. Chiefs may be elected as a temporary spokesperson for the tribe but posess no governing power over their people, rather they are elected just to represent the collective will of the people. Any Chief or war lord who abuses their position would be mocked, disdained and not followed. This is an excellent study by the french anthropologist who lived among and studied the lives of the Yanomami people of the Amazon, in depth analyzing their state and power(or lack of)

You guessed it: Pierre Clastres. Obscure on google searches (save Franko-anarchist webblogs), Clastres is buzzing with ideas. Here's a primer:

Interested in combating neoconservative, fascist politics?

Interested in combating neoliberal, internationalist ideologies?

How do tribal societies combat power a priori?

What's wrong with Marxist anthropology?

How does war in primitive society negate both Hobbes and Levi-Strauss?

Why is primitive society the first affluent society?

How does a Chief function in society without power?

What exploitative methods are employed to reverse power flows?

Read the book, get a clue.

This is a great book for anyone to read! It is very easy to understand, the medicines are explained in simple english. It would be an extremely useful tool for any student studying rheumatology because they would have quick reference to all of the arthritic medicines with brand names, symptoms, precautions, and general results. A person afflicted by arthritis would want to read this book because it helps you choose which medicines would be best for YOU by talking about many medicines and what they are used for...this is something that i did not see in many other books. It's simple, easy to read, can be used like a dictionary of medicine, and is reliable. I would reccomend it for anyone who needs information on arthritis.

This book is unique among the various types of medical textbooks in that it does not read like a medical textbook. Lay persons to specialists in the field can benefit from reading this book. It is especially helpful to people who have a rheumatic disease and who are taking any treatment therapies. A substantial number of people being treated with arthritis medications also have other health problems for which they are taking medication. Unfortunately, too little time is available to spend educating these patients about the mechanisms of drug actions, their potential for interaction with other drugs, proper dosing, and the risk/benefit ration of available treatments. Dr. Stein does a good job in this regard. The book is well organized into categories that allow the reader to easily find information about the specific drugs that are of interest. However, I recommend reading it from cover to cover for a comprehensive overview of the rheumatic diseases and current treatment options. This book will be helpful to patients, physicians, medical students and those allied health professionals who participate in the care and education of persons with arthritis.

Obscure story about obscure times

I was expecting a classical (=dull) spy story, with high-tensed action and plot twists, but ended up with a collection of short stories, placed mostly in central europe during WWI. How can it be, that seemingly unrelated stories can be summed up to make a book like this? How little are the hints that something out-of-ordinary is going on? When will the 'action scene' take place?

The book can be read as a collection of short stories, just change the main characters name in a story, but as such it is still not a very easy read. One to add to a collection:'This may or may not have been a true story'.

Look, I love Maugham's writing style and I enjoy historical novels. This one was a no-brainer for me.

Just read it. It's worth it for the brilliant description of his failed affair with the Russian. Who would have thought scrambled eggs could be such a political statement?

This book deserves to be on the curriculum of every school in the Western World for it delineates in merciless detail just what was the price of the freedoms we take so much for granted today and what the much-devalued word "hero" actually means. One hopes that similar sacrifices will never be required again by the ordinary citizens of free nations, but if they are, the courage, self-sacrifice and indomitability of Yeo-Thomas and so many others whose lives, and often also deaths, are touched on here will serve as an example and as an inspiration. Mr.Seaman tells the story of a man, ordinary in many ways, who, when confronted with absolute evil, and at an age when serving in a less active role would have evoked no disgrace, never hesitated to accept missions of the utmost danger. He proved the ideal combination of organiser, diplomat and man of action before capture and in detention proved an inspiring leader for his companions in misery. He was under no illusions as to the consequences of arrest by a barbarous enemy and when the worst happened he endured unspeakable suffering under interrogation, torture and slave-labour in concentration camps. Throughout all this his dedication to victory never failed and even in the squalid hell of Buchenwald he continued to resist. The most moving moment detailed in the book is when Yeo-Thomas, a filthy scarecrow in striped concentration-camp uniform, is recognised in a regular POW camp to which he has been sent on menial errands, and a group of British NCOs and men stand to attention before him, honouring him for a few moments before he returns to the abyss. Though Yeo-Thomas was assiduous in supporting prosecution of his tormentors after the war, his fairmindedness was such that he was willing to rise to the defence of Otto Skorzeny, whom he considered an honourable foe. This book is not only inspiring in itself, but it provides much more detail than the earlier "The White Rabbit" on Yeo Thomas's earlier life, and on the organisation of the French Resistance. Those who enjoy it will be equally impressed, and touched, by Rita Kramer's "Flames in the Field", which tells the stories of four women agents who did not survive wartime missions in France. My own daughters have been inspired by both books and they would make ideal and inspirational birthday gifts for young persons.

I have read this book, and its predecessor The White Rabbit. Tommy Yeo-Thomas BUILT the French Resistance, the Maquis. It was he who persuaded Churchill to arm them; it was he who went into Occupied Paris in support of his Free French friends under de Gaulle. It was he who was captured, tortured, and sent to Buchenwald KZ where fellow officers such as Desmond Hubble from Block 17 were hanged/strangulated and immediately cremated. He, with few others, swapped places in a typhus experiment in the camp; and as a 'corpse' escaped emaciated from Buchenwald. He testified at Nuemberg, and had been on his own mission to hunt down and execute KZ guards from Buchenwald in 1945.

Returning postwar to hunt down camp guards for liquidation. A true War Hero, but his suffering and the loss of those around him - Captain Desmond Hubble, Pierre Brosselette, Violette Szabo - make one realise the price. As a teenager fighting the Russians with Pilsudski in Poland he was sentenced to death; escaped from Zhitomir. as a man he ran Molyneux couturier of Paris; in 1939 he joined #.308 Krakowski Squadron of the Polish Air Force in England; then to SOE and life as an agent in Occupied Paris - sitting on a train with Klaus Barbie, Butcher of Lyon.

A remarkable man, an amazing story, he escaped the Concentration Camp but died in 1964 of its after-effects. A book to be read as much as a testament to human endurance, as to think of a truly remarkable man enduring great travails for his friends and comrades.

Yes - they can. At Heights Elementary in Pittsburg California back 35 years ago or so we would have a jumping frog contest every year in the circles used for kick ball. All the kids would bring giant frogs and let them go from the center of the ring. OH MY! It was so much fun - all because of this book (I am still scared of frogs to this day) but I love the book and every kid should read it.

Galloway leaves no historical fact unturned in his demonstration that America was founded as a Christian nation. Furthermore, he proves that without the Gospel and the application of all of God's Word to all of life, civilizations turn despotic and crumble.

In a day when Christian leaders call for the abandonment of politics, Galloway's book is a breath of fresh air. In many ways this book was prophetic. He saw what would happen if America rejected her Biblical foundations or if Christians retreated from their engagement in society.

Although written more than 100 years ago, Galloway's arguments are persuasively modern and must be heeded by today's church. There's no doubt that the ACLU will be terrified when this book gets back into circulation! Over one hundred images have been added in this newly republished version.

Great work of the impact of Christianity on America!!!!!

Originally published in 1898, "Christianity and the American Commonwealth" is one of the best summaries of the impact of Christianity on America. It was written long before Marxist leaning historians (liberal politicians and phony historic movies) have stripped America of her real heritage and truth. With socialists, politically correct fools, and outright Marxists ideologues running amuck, Galloway's book is sorely needed and completely pertinent. In fact in seeing what the American left is doing today Galloway may turn out to be a prophet. He foresaw what would happen if America rejected her Biblical foundations and he foresaw what would happen if Christians disengaged in society.

What Galloway does in "Christianity and the American Commonwealth," is use historical fact, something no one on the left does, that America was founded as a Christian nation. He also proves without a doubt that without the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the application of all of God's Word, the Bible, to all of our lives, our civilizations and in fact any civilization would turn despotic and crumble. All we have to do is look at world history to prove that out. This book is a must have for everyone who loves the USA.

It is amazing what lengths people will go to to avoid paying their bills.
According to this funny, well written book, some people will even go as far as proclaiming their own death in order to try to avoid paying for services they have received. You would hope that people in certain professions would be "above" that sort of thing, but obviously they're not. If you have ever been owed money that you have had trouble collecting, this book is for you!

Ben Feldman has been acknowledged to be the best insurance salesman of all time, having sold over one billion dollars of insurance during his career. This is an excellemt hands on manual with word by word phrases to use for almost every situation. It reads in a very conversational tone rather than a dull textbook style format.

As on insurance agent I found it's advice pratical, easy to utilize, and interesting to read. His other books are to be recommended as well. The Feldman Method is highly recommended. If you come across a copy of the original Creative Selling go ahead and snatch it up. The 90's edition has only two minor changes. One is the chapter of selling 6 million in 6 months. It has now been upgraded to 12 million in 6 months by doubling the dollar amounts. The other difference is the epilogue where Ben takes about 2 paragraphs to mentio the usefulness of computerization in insurance sales, for database purposes, proposals, etc.

The earlier version can be found for substantially less and has word for word the same information.

Another excellent author is John Savage. His books "Savage on Selling", The High Touch and others are must reads. Also include The Kinders "Secrets of Successful Insurance Sales" and you have a good basic library of insurance specific hands on material. Frank Bettger is not to be overlooked either. Add Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich' and "Laws of Success" and you need not buy much else.

Hope this has been helpful. These books have helped me to go from not even on the roster to Number 1 in our agency of 40+ agents and number 7 in the southeastern region for my company. These books will help you as well. Get them and use them.

The Key Is To Grab Attention With Client Specific Solutions

I found this book to be filled with lots of valuable information on selling. I've always been a firm believer in learning from the very best, an actual practitioner, in the respective area in which a person wishes to improve. Ben Feldman was the most prolific in the field of insurance sales. But, after reading Creative Selling, I found the tactics that he utilized in selling insurance could be creatively adapted to work in almost any sales field.

Perhaps Ben's most powerful technique is his gambit of speaking to a prospect in headlines, just like those that can be found in a newspaper. In newspapers, the headline grabs the reader's attention. In conversation, Ben would use headline-esqe phrases that involved a prospect's particular problem. That would immediately gain the prospect's attention, a feat in of itself...and would set Ben up to make his pitch.

Ben would never allow himself to be perceived as "selling insurance". Ben would always position himself in the prospect's mind as selling customized packages of solutions. For example, he would say, "I have here special educational package for your children's children." This worked so well, and continues to work today, due to the fact that people always will want something that is specifically for them...or anything they "perceive" to be created specifically for them. All people feel more comfortable buying a product that seems to be a snug solution to their problem, as opposed to a solution that is identical to the ones that the masses use.

I am confident that this book would make a valuable addition to any aspiring sales superstar's library. I recommend it with confidence.
