Let's Go Cuts to the Chase...
Let's Go London gets right to the point- all the basic information you need about food, lodging, and -most importantly- attractions without extra bells and whistles. There is a color underground map in the front, along with several color area maps. There are no scenic photographs, but there are a few advertisements in the book- I guess that keeps the price down. Lots of good tips for those who want to travel and see the sights without blowing a wad of money everywhere you go.

Light in Darkness: The Story of the Hong Kong Red Cross, 1950-2000
Published in Paperback by Hong Kong University Press (20 June, 2001)
Author: Tai-Lok Lui
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Very readable albeit rather brief
I found this book to be very readable. Within a little more than hundred pages, the author has traversed the history of the Hong Kong Red Cross over the past 50 years. The narrative is well-written and there some good photos.

My only quibble is that certain sections can be expanded and I would personally prefer more historical photos to be added in. Anyway, this is really a nice little book.

Lost Promise
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield (Non NBN) (29 January, 1993)
Author: John A. Gentry
Amazon base price: $60.50
Average review score:

Deepest look inside a broken secret analysis system
John has written a very personal book, somewhat vitriolic in its attacks on both Bob Gates for politicization and Directorate of Intelligence managers in general for being both ignorant and lacking in courage. It is essential reading for anyone considering improvements in how we do intelligence analysis, and includes an eighteen-point program for reforming both the process of intelligence and the management of intelligence analysis. The figure on page 226 comparing the Traditional, Opportunity-Oriented, and Opportunism-Oriented "Schools" of intelligence analysis is alone worth the price of the book. Includes a number of interesting original internal documents from his fight with DI management.

A good book to read before you begin
I have been working to implement an effective measurement system in government for some time now. My search is somewhere between the panacea of sure thing quick fixes and "it can't be done". This book uses a no nonsense approach which clearly understands the real world side of measurement in government. I am getting copies for the city council and management team as I am hoping the views shared here will draw each participant from their secure pessimism to a middle ground. Let the measurement experiment begin and count whatever progress is made a victory. I think this summarizes the objective of the author quite well. Well written and "real".

Great Work From Author
This book is a detailed examination of the internal search for a spy that was supposedly in the CIA during the 60 - 70's that was headed up by the chief of counter intelligence James Angleton. The book focuses on Angleton's almost demonic search for this supposed spy. The spy was never found but the search did an incalculable amount of damage to the CIA and overall U.S. security due to the paranoid and distrustful management style that the CIA adopted. The book is written in the style of an investigative reporter, by that I mean straight forward timeline with backed up facts and lots of detail. It provides the read with an interesting view into the CIA and the problems the culture of mistrust caused. It is a very readable book and is a must for those who are interested in the workings of the CIA during the cold war.

Good on management change in British health services
Highly recommended for anyone who wants some useful analysis of the effects of the new public management in the British health system. A very useful typography of NPM reforms and a good chapter on changing management-professional relations in the health system. Has resonances with New Zealand experience.

Concise, informative, an eye opener
Well worth the price for those who want information, not scare hype from those pushing the fringe element buttons. I have personally verified much of the information in this book. If you want to learn more of who is really in control of our lives and future, buy and read this book.

great spy story
This was a great book, true to very heart. It tells a tale of a KGB officer whose life gets turned around, mostly for the worst. It has truth all through the core, to the other side and back again. The words are well put and it really made me think. The story plants such clear pictures of spies, guns, and Russia. It gave me a chill when the author told of his family and how the KGB ruined his life. If you are a James Bond fan, you will love this book!
