Have You Lost Your Mind is an amazing eye-opening experience focused on biblical truths. Dr. Shelley has done the unthinkable-combined
faith with logic. His remarkable work demonstrates that the Great God of the Bible is the Great Thinker, and He has also
created His people to be thinkers. A beautiful demonstration of worshipping God with your mind. A wonderful approach to
applying God's Word in our lives. A must read for every Christian, but let's not stop there. It is also a must read for
every non-Christian.

This book is so wacky. I loved all the three and four syllable words. I've never taken acid or anything like that, but I
think reading this book is a safe way to simulate the effects of LSD on the brain. You can always put it down and do something
normal for awhile, which is not possible with most hallucinogenics, I'm told. I read words in this book that I didn't even
know existed. It made me think of all those planets we don't know anything about, which might have life on them, that may
or may not be friendly, but are probably interesting, and may eat foods not like the foods we eat, and play sports which
we would not recognize the point of, here on Earth. I highly recommend this book, even if you know nothing about international
relations or postmodernism. This guy must be a really cool guy. I'd like to have a drink with him one time. Hey Tomas!
Are you as cute as those big words you use?

I read most of this book at my sister-in-law's place: she is also a piano teacher. The author, Cynthia Richards, has several
children of her own, and managed to help most of them to learn to play various instruments, as well as conducting a busy piano
studio.
She makes some great points in her book, and while I will give you a few of her hints here, you will find it well worth your while to read the whole shebang. And it's as cheap as chips!
Mrs Richards alerts her readers to these stumbling blocks:
1 Indifferent home environment
2 Faulty teacher-child relationslip
3 Lack of maturity and commitment in the child
4 The wrong instrument
5 Unfavourable practice conditions
6 Bad memories
7 Peer pressure not to practise
8 Not proficient enough to be competitive
9 Too many conflicting interests
10 Sibling rivalry
11 Competitive feelings with a parent
12 Communications
She also suggests some ways to overcome these problems:
1 Start early
2 Practise with your child every day
3 Set up family rules for practising
4 Use incentives when needed
5 Handle conflicts by
a avoiding emotional involvement
b being friendly
c being matter of fact
d not giving in
6 Enjoy your children's music
7 Praise them for their successes
8 Look for stumbling blocks and do your best to remove them
9 Focus your efforts on getting your child hooked on music
I highly recommend this book. If you follow the advice of a successful mother and music teacher, your child may not become a little Mozart; but you will be a better parent, your child will be a happier child and together you will enjoy some great musical experiences.

A thorough guide to improvisation

As a classically trained musician, jazz has been slow to reveal its secrets to me. I have enjoyed listening to it, but getting
the hang of the jazz style in general and the art of improvisation in particular have been less enjoyable. However, the demands
on musicians today makes it vital to have some understanding of all kinds of music, and this book is a great way to start
your exploration of jazz. With a lot of short and well organized exercises, and a stress on learning to listen to what is
happening, it tells the frustrated student how to master the mystery of making jazz happen. I know I have to work on the exercises
to get where I want to, but the layout of this book makes it easy to organize my practice!

A Litany of Sins in the Airline Industry

Review Date: 2004-01-28
This book is a must for anyone with an interest in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)! The author successfully blends the
theory of OHS, an often neglected area of Human Resource Management (HRM), with interesting and relevant case studies illustrating
the practice and implementation, or lack thereof, of OHS policy. The author presents a thorough explanation and introduction
of OHS and HRM policy and theory in the first half of the book, before contextualising this with case study illustrations
set in the airline, call centre and nuclear power industries. The nuclear power and airline industry case studies, in particular,
reveal some worrying and thought provoking examples of the failure of OHS policy in the workplace. The author suggests that
these failures not only put employees at risk, but also customers and the general public, highlighting the need for organisations
to take the health and safety culture seriously. The call centre case study illustrates a blatant disregard for employee safety,
intimating that call centre organisations have a vested interest in ignoring employee health by choosing to encourage "burn-out",
before replacement of staff. This book is not written in "traditional", dry, academic prose; instead the author uses a refreshing,
almost conversational style. This makes it equally accessible to the academic and practitioner communities, and makes for
absorbing reading, and is a particularly useful source of reference for students and researchers in this field.

A most important book for our times...

Tadjbakhsh and Chenoy have given us an exceptional book on a important set of issues in these times--the central saliency
of human security. This topic can be difficult to clarify or define. It sometimes seems elusive, yet when one reads and absorbs
the authors insights and knowledge, and realizes that they often speak from field-informed first hand experience from their
work in some of the worlds most daunting places the book takes on added significance. It is truly one of the most authoritative
sources for clarity on this complex subject. Preoccupations with national security must not be allowed to crowd out the central
importance of human security--it is a basic building block in the quest for peace. Corky

True "Super (High Level)" Learning

This book is utterly superb. I have never read such a clear, practical, and detailed book on how memory works, and how to
improve it.
It takes a strategy perspective (although it uses the term manipulation) and shows how many different ways can be used singularly or in combination to fit particular study and memory tasks.
So there is nothing about mystical breathing techniques, yoga, the use of baroque music, the application of NLP, the increase of IQ or the use of pseudoscience to twist any issues. It relies on strategies that everyone has access to without the attendance of seminars or gurus. E.G, getting reasonable sleep, not being alcoholic, as well as typical external and internal memory strategies such as writing things down, placing objects as reminders, the correct application of the search for meaning and the use of visual mnemonics.
The high level of organization in the text makes it very easy to read. There are brief and clear summary sections at the end of each chapter, and clear advanced organisers throughout.
The best thing, I feel, is the addition of about 40 different strategies suited to various tasks that are common to study. All the strategies are reasoned out, and research is quoted for support.
Both useful and inspiring.

Our Little Friends

It turns out that most bacteria is not pathogenic and many species are essential to the proper functioning of the human body.
This book presents a whole new way of viewing bacteria, the human body, and their relationship to one another. 90% of the
cells in our bodies are, by count, bacteria. We are more collectives of organisms then we are single beings.
This book is highly technical, but very well written and surprisingly easy to follow with a basic understanding of biology. It not only is helpful for scientists, but also for persons interested in new theories about what it means to be human and our relationship with our environment. It provides some ideas to chew on about how to develop a better relationship with our bacteria as sterilizing the body of it does not offer any real benefit and is even harmful to our survival.
