The development in recent years of the theory of dynamic games has resulted in discovering that the theory of dynamic games has applications in several areas outside game playing.

For instance, in zero-sum stochastic games the players do not observe the progress of the game fully, but only in bits and pieces. This is the same situation normally found in business, the military, environmental studies, and certainly in economics. The managers in any of these has to make decision based on partial knowledge, some of which may be wrong.

This book looks at game theory in the light of expanding the theory into real life situations where recent advances offer the potential of shedding light into decision making. It is an edited book, with authors from around the world that presented papers at the 10th International Symposium on Dynamic Games held in St. Petersburg, Russia. As such, this is not a book for the beginner in game theory as it presents new advances assuming that the reader has a basis of understanding in game theory.

if you want an idea of where current earth science research is heading. But the first chapter on assessing the risks of not addressing carbon emissions is worth the price of admission.

Why is this book so expensive? Does it unlock the mysteries of the universe? I would hate to be the medical student who has to buy this book.

Although the papers are categorized into "theory" and "applications", all papers are quite practice-oriented. The first 23 "theoretical" papers present various sub-fields of EC while still providing good entries to the applications of these sub-fields. The other 17 papers focus on the application of EC techniques on very specific problems, be they combinatorial or mostly applied.

The papers are quite well written so that reading from cover to cover is possible without getting a headache...A very good book to get an idea of the applications of EC on real problems.

I think that this book is great, it explains everything about exercise immunologye in a clear and very inteligent way.

It's a coplex matter, but, not impossible to understand...

After the fourth time I chased a promising reference into the library and emerged with this book I knew it was something special. Carling and Dawson put together a very good compilation that remains compelling a decade later. Best was the appropriate (must...resist...obvious...pun) choice to review the flurry of recent developments in bedform mechanics. His 60 page overview is itself worth checking this book out as it is accessible, comprehensive and up to date. Whiting's chapter on mixing was a welcome surprise as he detailed the wide range of processes responsible for bed sorting unlike anything otherwise compiled. Kelsey's overview of modeling is very different the one I would write as it is sweeping in scope and broad in its review of approaches. But it is generally interesting and provides the best synthesis of active layer approaches I found when recently doing some work on the topic. Each of the other bed mechanics papers are worthwhile. Coming from the geologic perspective the text also includes several stratigraphy papers that are outside of my interest or ability to evaluate. However, if the reach the level of applicability of the bed mechanics paper they are highly recommended.
