This is must reading for anyone in e-commerce marketing. The insight that can be gained from this book is amazing.

If you're designing voice user interfaces, you should buy this book.

The basic premise of the book is that when a computer has a voice--and it doesn't matter whether the voice is a recorded human or synthesized--people are going to subconsciously interact with the computer as if it is human (bringing their biases about gender, ethnicity, and personality).

I bought this book thinking I would skim it for ideas before writing a proposal. The proposal was focused on improving human-computer interaction for a communications device that uses voice (speech recognition) as the input and the output.

Well, I skimmed the first couple of chapters and realized that I really should read them more closely. I learned a couple of great nuggets on voice gender that influenced what I would include in the proposal.

Then I skimmed the next couple of chapters on personality of voices, realized I should read those more closely, learned a few more nuggets that I knew were going into the proposal.

At that point, I realized I needed to read the whole book closely and fast. Luckily, that was not a problem. The book is an easy read. Every chapter talks about an important design issue for voice user interfaces, describes the decisions that a designer could make, then outlines the research that was done, explains what was learned from the research, and discusses the implications of that research for how you should design your interface.

In short, this book completely changed the proposal, and I think we have a much better chance of winning the business. Furthermore, I have already identified about 5 major things we can do to improve our exsisting products that I did not know about before reading this book.

Good planner with plenty of space to write. Doesn't fall apart. I've had it for a few weeks now, and have no problems.

A magnific way to learn about something is to listen other people that make it previosly. This is the advantage of Conferences, more if this are of IEEE, a magnifical organization with good and experimented professionals.

We learn more, because we don't commit the beginner's errors.

We put in practice the knowledge acquired in this Conference and compare this with ours procedures to choose the best way to do it

This is an excellent book in metaphysics written in the 1920s. I consider it one of the foundation books you should have. Even though its written in a dated style it covers all the basics. You will find modern authors repeat what this author stated way back then. "Yogi Ramacharaka" was the pen name for William Walker Atkinson, (who was also one of the "Three Initiates" who the Hermetic classic, "The Kyballion". I highly recommend this book and almost anything written by the author. JayDee

The book is readable--arrived in a reasonable time period and it came in good shape.

This book covers an aspect of the Pearl Harbor attack that, until now, has been virtually ignored. Mr. Burlingame covers the topic thoroughly, from the planning and strategy, through the attack, and even covers Japanese submarine activities against American territory in the central and eastern Pacific in the weeks following the attack. One of the more fascinating aspects is his analysis of a photo taken during the attack which appears to show a midget submarine in the harbor firing torpedoes at Battleship Row! Mr. Burlingame has been among the top experts on the Pearl Harbor attack for many, many years. His vast knowledge and thoroughness as a researcher are obvious in this very absorbing and informative book. I hope there are more on the way.

Walter Bloem was an aspiring novelist and officer in the reserves in the year 1914. He had reached a point in his life when he felt he could devote himself more to his passion of writing and the future looked promising--but in August 1914, that all changed with the outbreak of war. In a matter of days he went from being a genlteman and novelist to Captain and company commander in the 12th Brandenburg Grenadiers, which was part of III Corps in Kluck's Army. As an accomplished writer, what we have in The Advance from Mons is an astute and very readable account of the early weeks of the war from the perspective of a frontline officer. An excellent first-hand account--a must read for those with an interest in the Great War.

The case studies are set within the context of changing economic opportunities, shifts in power and policy, relations with foreign capital, and attitudes toward private business and the state.

Not only an invaluable digest of Nigeria's business activity, Forrest's study also challenges the existing views about African enterprise and is highly relevant to policymakers concerned with economic development.

As a student of early Christian history, I was thoroughly satisfied by Bruce's treatment of how the early Christian church evolved. He supplies the needed cultural and historical knowledge of the times which formed the seedbed for church practices today. Well worth the price and a "must have" sourcebook.
