A Teachers Bedside Table Book.
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-01-20
For three years now I have been checking this book out of my local library, juicing it for every little tid-bit it has to offer. Mary Henton carefully describes a philosophy for guiding students toward being life-long-learners. She outlines the AITC model and explains the philosophies behind it and how it has survived through frequent education reforms. This is not another classroom manual that will produce brilliant children. This is a book that suggests a philosophy that can enhance teachers learning. I'm sick of checking it out, so I've bought my own copy and have put it next to my John Dewey and Ted Seizer.

We are so excite to find this book. We started this series and could not find the last three that we needed. This was the first one that I found and when it arrived at our house my 4 year old was so excited that he slept with it for a week. My kids love these books they are easy to read, colorful and they rhyme. I only need numbers and my day to complete my set. THANK YOU for finding this book

Being half the price at the college bookstore, this offer was very helpful in meeting my budget. Others who purchase this need to be careful when they take it out of the package because it doesn't come with a binding. I didn't realize this and spilled all the pages out onto the floor.

A sturdy and useful guide
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-25
This is a very nice, condensed, and illustrated guide to backpacking that covers the basics. The drawings and photos really help illustrate the techniques that are described.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it seems a bit heavy to actually carry while backpacking, when you're trying to minimize every ounce. (To be fair, the book itself is very sturdy and should withstand a fair amount of travel wear, so that may have been the factor in choice of binding and materials).

For pure reading pleasure of an outdoors nature, noone can beat the wit, wisdom, and writing style of Zane Grey. I purchased this book recently and read the entire length of it in one sitting. Believe me, you won't be able to put this one down! This is a compilation of some of Grey's best work on hunting, fishing, and camping. Although most of the work is from the early 1900s, it is the compelling story telling talent of Grey that makes this a compelling read even for the youth of today. Also included is a marvelous picture section with some of Grey's world record fish and game harvests. All in all a great read!

thought provoking reflections on a life of wild adventures
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-24
Colin Mortlock reflects on a life of adventure: climbing, kayaking, offshore catamaran sailing, solo kayaking, solo wilderness walks and (more recently) identifying wild flowers.
Adventures and reflections are mixed in a proportion in a way that echoes the author's view that "Quality action and quality reflection on that action are of fundamental equal importance"
It is the story of an adventurer and educator who is fascinated by the occasions on which he has felt "at one" with nature. These were moments of awe, wonder or synchronicity when canoeing, sailing, climbing or walking.
I prefer Beyond Adventure (2001) to his earlier book The Adventure Alternative (1984): Beyond Adventure is more autobiographical, more adventurous and more authentic. Colin Mortlock's style is sometimes awkward especially when he is struggling to interpret his "flow" experiences, but he does so in a plain language that makes his story accessible to all.

I tested the recipes in this book to quite an extent and really enjoyed the recipes. I would highly recommend adding this to your collection. The only thing I didn't like was that the name of the person who submitted the recipe was more prominent than the recipe title.

Solid Tutorial on LDAP Fundamentals For Developers & Administrators
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-15
We have been using Active Directory (Windows 2000/2003 LDAP server) since 1999. Over the past week I have been evaluating the roll LDAP and Active Directory could play in consolidating contact information for 150 client locations. I needed a quick overview of LDAP. I already had this book on the shelf and found it to be exactly what I needed.

The book is a serious one. You should have prior experience with TCP/IP fundamnetals, administration of Active Directory or NDS, and database connection progamming. Code examples (simple things) are in Java, but the concepts will be clear to those who work in any language.

I particularly enjoyed the chapter on the limitations of LDAP.
