Action Learning for Executive Development
With this book, Marquardt has created the most exciting and practical model for executive development I have ever seen. Warren Bennis recently asked, poignantly, "Is there a future for leadership?" Marquardt is leading all management educators into the future of leadership. As director of an executive Master's program at American University, I am astonished at how powerful Marquardt's model is for developing "leaderly learners," in the magical phrase coined by Peter Vaill. Action learning is perfect for leaders who want to learn and learners who want to lead. Marquardt's chapter on the role of "action learning coach" is, by itself, worth a shelf of books of leadership. My executive participants are raving about how action learning has transformed their individual mindsets, allowing them to surface take-for-granted assumptions, as well as helped them begin to transform the culture or collective mindsets of their organizations.

The best guide for action learning practitioners
Overall, this book is invaluable in that it provides readers with great insight into the ¡°what,¡± ¡°why,¡± and ¡°how¡± of action learning. It explains key components and principles of action learning in great detail. In addition, the author explains how to apply the components and principles covered in this book by giving specific examples and procedures. The usefulness of this book is illustrated by the questions and checklists, which are very practical. I believe this book will surely serve as an action learning manual for HRD practitioners for years to come.

Fantastic How-to Book
Mike Marquadt has done it again! This book is an especially useful in that it lays out the process of Action Learning in easy to follow how-to steps. It makes an outstanding handbook for anyone looking to harness the power of Action Learning.

Best Book In My Collection
I have to agree whole-heartedly with others who have given top recommendations for this book. It was recommended to me while I was at a training seminar and has fast become the most used book on my shelf. It really has something for every occaision.

One of the very best things about the book is that it is more than just a collection of trainer games (not that there is anything wrong with those books), but it has a million tips and ideas that can be added to any training. I think this is a must have for any trainer.

MEANINGFUL activities
This is the best collection of meaningful activities I've come across. All the activities are designed to achieve a purpose and are right on target. The pages are designed so that you can easily follow and understand the activities that are grouped into application area or need.

The book covers active training techniques for team building, stimulating discussion, on-the-spot assessments, stimulating discussions, prompting questions, and reviewing strategies. There are quite a few more, as well a section in the beginning with 'tips' for the trainer, like learning names, timesavers, role-playing, setting-up the training room, etc.

You will hardly ever conduct a training that will not benefit from a quick peek into this book and the ideas and suggestions included.

A Master reference
This book is a fantastic resource for all trainers and no training bookshelf should be without it. The activities are targeted, relevant to the subject matter and guranteed to produce the desired results. You will not find any 'wishy-washy' activities and games here nor will you catch yourself yawning as you turn the pages. It's quite the opposite in fact; this book is so well written and well presented, that you just might find yourself going through all the 101 activities! And while you're at it, why don't you check 'Active Training' by Mel Silberman as well - it's a gem of a book...

Don't hesitate, this is one purchase you will never regret.

Great book-easy to follow-intelligent,no-nonsense advice.
I finished this book two days after receiving it and found it to be very motivating. I have not only customized an "active wellness" plan for myself, but also for my son and my brother. The guidelines in the book are easy to follow for basic good health (no fads or hype found here!).

A comprehensive and thoughtful guide to feeling good
A comprehensive and thoughtful guide to feeling good and getting fit, "Active Wellness" has helped me achieve a greater sense of well-being. Thanks to this book, I've become a healthier, thinner, less-stressed-out individual. Plus, check out the luscious recipes! They'll help you ditch junk food and not even miss it.

EXCELLENT
I received the book on a Friday and by Saturday evening I had completely read this book. Not only is this book easy to understand, it is motivating and uplifting. I think its the concept of goals-- why should we approach our "Wellness" plans any differently than our financial plans. They both require short-term and long-term goals. Over the last three weeks I have followed the program, which I customized for myself, and I have lost about 4 pounds and I am now going to the gym three times a week and doing cardiovascular workouts for 45 minutes (that was unheard of for me a month ago), but I realize to reach my goals I've got to do these things. Active Wellness teaches you to realize this and helps to give you the inspiration you need to get going. I am truly pleased with this book. It has even taught me how to manage my stress in my daily dealings through meditation and visualization. It truly is an mind-body-spirit connection to achieving any goal for yourself. Definitely worth the read and implementation into your life.

Many good ideas on how to make your training more active
This book has many good ideas on how to make your training more active. For example, it give one ideas on how to turn a mundane one-way lecture into a lively interactive discussion so that the participants not only enjoy the learning, but retain and use the knowledge gained. In addition, there are many activities that a trainer can use to make his or her training more lively. I strongly recommend this book to all trainers.

Wow!
Great book with plenty of practical comments and ideas which allow you to design a truly active session that both, your audience and you, will enjoy.

The best book in training i have read since i am training
I have pleasant meetings with you book Active Training at the last weeks. I am very impressed from it. The book is the best book that has been written about active teaching and learning. The book taught me new active ways as well. The book could help you diagnosis your faults at training and remind you what you forget to do. The book is very friendly. Active Training make it clear that you can be the best trainer if you just work for it. "Active leaning" might hurts but it helps you to grow. I am very grateful about the adventures. The book function like a mirror that tell you where your lipstick is not polished , so you can correct it. The book gave me new insights even I am teaching for 10 years already . The book is like a mentor If you like you can give your hands and travel at a virtual exelent training class.

A timely, thoughtful masterpiece!
Drs. Bush and Kulkarni are two preeminent network scientists at the General Electric Research Center. Their book is a triumph and a boon for all of us working in networks and allied disciplines. The field of active networks continues to gain in importance and cabins a new dimension in network thought. Their book accomplishes both a thorough and scholarly review of the subject and also gently instructs. The latter includes exercises at chapters' ends and a CDROM. An excellent piece of work that I expect may become a classic.

Excellent and Thorough
With a networking backgroud, I was interested in learning about the basics of Active Networks. I picked up this book in an attempt to dive into the subject, and I am glad that I did.

This book covers all of the basics, properties and priciples of Active Networks. It goes on to discuss the theory behind the network management aspects of an Active Network. A topic that I've not found covered in any other books that I've searched for.

The included CD also gives all the source code you'll need to set up and implement some of the topics that are discussed in the book.

All in all it's a good read and definitly worth being on my bookshelf!

new area with lot of research scope
My heartful thanks to the author for the book in this area. The revised edition may include new focuses in the current areas like workflow management.

A MUST-READ IN CLIENT/SERVER BOOKS!
This is a great reference to understand the client/server database model and some brief data warehouse architecture. I really appreciate the author's vision to see the system building like a "industrial factory" involving world-class manufacturing concepts like Just-In-Time, Success Circles, etc. It's a new perspective of the system life-cycle. Covers very well aspects of relational database concepts, not focusing on a single vendor, with finance and manufacturing concepts. Anyone who was to understand client/server computing MUST READ IT. I didn't find any similar book in the market. Very professional.

Finally - a leadership book you can really use on the job!
Many leadership books are on the market with excellent concepts and theories, but the great thing about this book is that it contains real tools, assessments, and ideas any manager can download and actually use immediately to assess their own skills or to use as team activities with their employees. This book is great for those who continually work to develop their leadership skills, but is especially excellent for managers who "don't have time for leadership classes", because they can use the activities on their own with their team during staff meetings, or as "just-in-time" tools as they are needed to help employees deal with change, etc. This is also an excellent resource for those in the HR/leadership development field - the tools can be used on a 1-on-1 basis with a manager, or they could be used within a leadership course.

The personal approach is best...
I am so glad to have discovered Gayle Reichler's ACTIVE WELLNESS! Not only does it offer helpful and accessible information on adopting a more healthy lifestyle, but the author's guidance is made all the more powerful by the fact that she followed the very same program herself. I have put my entire family on the Active Wellness Program - even my children. We have all struggled with our weight at one time or another, but since starting the program we have all lost weight and kept it off! We feel more energetic than ever. ACTIVE WELLNESS is a book for everyone concerned with getting and staying healthy. And we can all use a bit of help in that department!
