Yes, Phoenix Had Music in the 60sClose enough to L.A. to pick up all the latest trends. Far enough from L.A. to create it's own unique personality. The author does a great job of capturing the energy of that time via interviews with many of the local musicians who were making it all happen. There a lot of references to cultural touchstones -- those things that anyone who lived in Phoenix at the time will recall -- the radio stations, the drive-in movies, the local dances and on and on. It was the scene that spawned Alice Cooper, the Tubes, Goose Creek Symphony, Hub Kap and the Wheels and many more groups that went on the national or regional fame.
Regardless of where you lived, you will relate to many of the things in this book. If you try it, you won't be disappointed.

Definitive guide to mountains of the San Francisco Peninsula
A great choice for walkers in the bay areaI've bought several books in the past, but this one covers a lot more of the trails in the area and with better detail. It tells you if trails are open to bikes and/or horses, talks about the camping facilities, details how long a walk you will have and the types of things you can expect to see out there.
There are also little sections on the local history, how the geology stuff works and many more useful snippets of info.
Definately the best book I've found for picking places to go walk, but then, it is somewhat targetted to the area where I live.

A must for any new Texas Gardner
InvaluableI did not know that Dale Groom was well-known to Texas gardeners as "The Plant Groom," or anything else about this beloved Texan plant guru. I came across this book by recommendation, and I'm so glad I did! In an easy-to-use, easy-to-read format, Groom divides his book into logical sequences, from Annuals through Native Trees to Perennials, Roses, Shrubs and more. For this impatient gardener, the book format couldn't be more perfect. Every question I have has an answer, and every answer is readily available.
The nice, sturdy thickness of this paperback is a plus as well. I can see propping it up in my Texas friend's Houston garden as I struggle to turn a pig's ear (his over-run, sadly neglected, crying-out-for-attention flowerbeds) into a silk purse (Oh I have so many ideas!!!!)
As a Pennsylvanian, I recommend this book to anybody and everybody who has ever gardened in Texas, from the seasoned gardener to the amateur. There is something in here for everybody, and the only thing missing is a big smear of Texas mud on the cover. I plan to see it gets there soon!
