A tremendous book detailing the fascinating and varied history of the Pointe au Baril, Ontario area, from its beginnings as a land of the Native people and its evolution from late-1800's fishing village to 20th Century summer vacation area. A must read for anyone with a connection to Pointe au Baril, but also a valuable factual and anecdotal history of central Ontario.

During the course of a French business class, we used this book as the central text. After that semester, I was sincerely impressed by the cogent and clear explanation given by Berg in this book. It is divided into sections (modules) that facilitate comprehension both at the undegaduate and graduate levels. It is easily divisible, providing lenency concerning curriculum planning and course structure. Perhaps the most striking of Parlons Affaires! is format; it was designed as a prepatory text for the Diplome de francais d'affaires (DFA) administered by the Chamber of Commernce and Industry of Paris (CCIP). In this fashion, the book is indispensable for 1) an introduction into the french business world and lexicon; 2) those who wish to prepare for the DFA; 3) any person desiring a better understanding of french business operations. Finally, I recommend, without reservation, this text. Choose it and you will not be disappointed! Il vaut la peine!

"The Devil in the Flesh" is a simple, powerful love story dealing with a teenage boy's love for a woman who is a little bit older. Set in France during the first world war. One of my favorites. Radiguet wrote this at the age of 17 and died three years later of typhoid. He was a protege of Jean Cocteau and received a fantastic amount of attention from the Parisian literary scene of the early 1920s. A fascinating person and a fascinating book. Read it!

This book is very good about theoretical approach to electromagnetic scattering for graduate students. Topics are clearly expressed and easy to follow. Some of the applications such as interferometric SAR, radar polarimetry, RCS, Remute Sensing are examinated.

This book was about a family that needed a babysitter for a whole summer. Lucas, one of the older brothers, didn't want a babysitter. He wanted to be able to do what he wanted with no people around to boss him around. When the babysitter got here from France, Lucas knew he wasn't going to like her. After a few days Lucas was tired of having somone around all the time. He played bad tricks and blamed them on Genevieve (the babysitter)to get her fired. Then Lucas finds out that all Geniveve is doing is helping his mom. Do you think Lucas will end up getting along with her?
I loved reading this book because Ilike the way the author set up the story and how they had a babysitter come over the summer vacation. Also, I enjoyed the different events going on while Genevieve is babysitting over the summer. I recommend to students in at least fourth grade because younger children might not understand the book.

Where history books place dry facts, dates, and seemingly distant, irrelevant stories, this book brings home the first person accounts of the brave and dedicated organizers of the Ford Rogue Plant. Spanning from the 20's to the 70's, these accounts are told in the words of a tapestry of workers, union officials, and politicians. The stories they tell are moving, riveting, and allowed me to actually understand whate really happened in the unionist movement from the people who were there.

The book focuses not only on what happened, but why. It takes a concentrated look at what was going on in America politically and the effect that each thing had on the move to organize. The format is clear and concise, but it is still very intriguing reading.

Everyone in America should read this book, and anyone who has any interest or membership in an American Trade Union of any kind NEEDS to read this book. It's what it is all about: freedom, democracy, power of the people when they stand united.

This is a great 'hidden wonder' of recent American Labor History.

As an unabashed and truly proud pro-labor, pro-New Deal and pro-working class Democrat and Progressive("Progressive" in the real, tough and true sense, not the ACLU-'save the spotted owl' and 'hug a treee' sense), I loved this book as both a study in recent history, and a tribute to one of the greatest movements ever produced on God's green earth.

The American Labor movement - as comparatively small as it may be - is one of this nation's greatest movements, alongside the abolitionist and civil rights ones. In the past 100 years, this movement, along with its allies in the Democratic party and other forward looking sections of the U.S., has given us the 40 Hour Work Week, the Minimum Wage, child labor laws, public works, Social Security, the safety net, Food Stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, consumer safety laws, public employment programs for the at-risk, OSHA and various anti-discrimination laws. This is the movement which has dared to look into the face of greed and demand true justice.

This is the grand story of the United Auto Workers - and their heroic leader, Mr. Walter Reuther - and their quest into traditional American liberalism in the Democratic party. Their quest for true social justice was never achieved, yet, their aims remain those of many forward looking, compassionate and decent Americans who know that the shaft of the workers is one which hurts not only these men and women on the job, but their families, loved ones and community in general.

The book is right when, in the end, it states that we need forward looking voices like the UAW in our culture to demand an end to injustice and keep the forces of injustice in check. We need voices to stand up to right wing efforts to scale back labor laws for the working man and woman, civil rights and health care, day care, family leave and wage oriented legislation of the past. We need more moral voices for American workers and their allies across the world. This book is such a voice. I especially loved the part of George Wallace. This bigoted demagogue constantly exploited the working class by giving out racist rhetoric which was - as some saw it unfortunately - 'pro worker.' Wallace's current followers of the past 20 years include Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Newt Gingrich and the Lott/Delay gang in the Congress. All of these overlook - and ignore - class in order to protect their rich special interests. Instead, they bash the welfare mother, the immigrant and the ghetto child - and call that 'progress.'

May the American labor movement not only stop falling, but may it rise again to successfully demand justice for the working American and his or her family. God would want nothing more from us.

If you want the hint of delicate flavor in the face of your senses, then this cook book is for you! If you have dined at Le Grand Vefour and enjoyed the experience, this book of recipies is for you! The only drawback is that you must read French, or have a good dictionary handy.

A very easy recipie is the "Oreiller de veau au jus de poivrons doux pimenté" - (pillows of veal (paupiettes) with the juice of 2 peppers). The simple ingredients blend together to make a perfect sensation in your mouth. You may need to substitute for the caul fat if your butcher does not have it, but toothpicks will work. The flavor is exotic, yet basic.

Your mind believes the dish has tomatoes as a base, but the taste screams something quite different. Your eyes, nose, and mouth are sending different signals to your brain and the resulting confusion is a delicious rhapsody your taste buds enjoy with each mouthful.

Some of the quantities need to be checked, as typos do seem to be present, but an experienced cook will notice the irregularities very quickly.

I have made a complete meal (cold entree, hot entree, main course with vegetable, and dessert) from this book, and recommend it with no reservation.

The results do make me yearn to be back in Paris at Le Grand Vefour.

The ideas proposed in this book is a touch-stone in the actual research on law and society.
