dissapointed
This is just a short screenplay of the movie and not really a memoir. Rent the excellent movie.

Wonderful book: one of the bests
When I read the first time this book I cryed. This is wonderful book about olochaust. It's wiewed by the eyes of a children. He study in a French college, where we meet an other student, a jewish student. They became friend. But as they try to look away from the war, that reality will overwhelm them, break their friendship and break up them for ever. It's the story of olochaust's injustice, that hit also the lamb: the children. It's a book very sad and will reduce you to tears. I suggest everyone to read it.

it was ok.
This is the story of an Australian au pair who works in France. Once she is accepted into the single child family and learns their traits and odd ways, she begins to realise that her family back home aren't that horrible after all.

It was an ok book, but l would have been disappointed if l had bought it, instead of borrowed from the library.

Les Trois Mousquetaires, tome 1 : Au service du roi

5 stars for Dumas, 1 for the adaptation, average of 3 stars
This is not Les Trois Mousquetaires of Alexandre Dumas; it is "adapted in simple French by R. de Roussy de Sales." It includes marginal notes, usually not on the most challenging vocabulary in the paragraph, and a set of writing exercises in English in the back.

However, this is a good adaptation, if you are looking for something to challenge rusty French skills.

Dumas' characters and action are exciting and compellingly drawn, and the boundary between history and fiction is blurred enough to make Dumas' version the more persuasive.

This is still a terrific story.

French Etiquette Advice From A Princess
This book on French etiquette was written by the French aristocrat and member of the "jet-set", the Princess Hermine de Clermont-Tonnerre. The Princess also includes a bit of information about herself, as well, including an explanation of her heritage and title in the Introduction and several personal snapshots. The book covers the basics of good behavior in a variety of areas, including:

- Daily Life (proper dress and general behavior)

- Communication (proper speaking and writing)

- Entertaining (hosting a dinner party and attending one)

- Living As A Couple

- Major Events (dealing with marriages, births, and other major life events)

- Children (advice on education, events, etc.)

- Living Abroad (how rules for good behavior differ from French traditions in specific countries)

In many ways this book is similar to the Baronne Nadine de Rothschild's earlier book, "Le bonheur de séduire, l'art de reussir". Though the Princess's book seems more aimed at younger generations, whereas the Baronne's book addresses the concerns of older generations.

Other than this slant, though, I'm not sure exactly who the book's target audience is. Many sections seem to be appropriate only to upper classes, such as how to deal with your children's nanny or how to address titled aristocrats. And yet, I'm thinking that anyone who would need to know how to address a queen or a grand-duke doesn't need to read this book to know how to do it. And certainly people in the habit of addressing titled nobles don't need to be instructed on basic dress or grooming habits.

Still, as an American completely unfamiliar with French aristocracy I found it an interesting glimpse into this world. And while my daily life doesn't involve cartes de visite or arranging 30 guests around a horseshoe-shaped dinner table, I did still pick up a few practical tips, such as turning forks point-down and never saying "Bon appetit!"

Garbage
This book is an absolute waste of paper. The explanations are horrible and the examples even worse. My instructor uses this book(wonder why?) and the class average is 55%. Now I am studying Smith Chart and the way those guys explain it makes me wanna burn the damned book. Do yourself a favour. Don't buy this book.

Horrible Book
I'm currently in an electromagnetics course that uses this book and this book is awful. The author cannot explain the concepts in a clear manner. The author skips parts of the explaination leaving me confused as to what he did. Also the examples in the book are not very good, an answer is given with little or no work. The book needs more examples and needs to explain the concepts much better. If you're in a course that uses this book get another book, such as Schaum's Outline of Electromagnetics. From a student point of view, this is a horrible book.

Review of Shen and Kong's book on Applied Electromagnetics
I think the main weakness of the book is the first chapter on complex vectors. This book should have emphasized on this topic somewhat more. Additionally, in the 1st chapter the vector integral calculus (Divergence, Stokes, Green's theorems) are omitted. This weakness must be corrected by the authors in its future editions.

The main aspect of this book I liked is the very straightforward introduction to Maxwell's equations. After all, it is Electromagnetic *WAVE* theory and from Maxwell's equations how the wave nature of electric and magnetic fields are being realized, is of importance. The book does not dwell on pre-requisite traditional topics such as "electrostatics" and "magnetostatics". This makes teaching of EM at the junior level much easier.

Love Joy : Paid & Loving eyes Au
Published in Audio Cassette by Random House UK Distribution (12 October, 1994)

Could this be an imposter?
Gash's Lovejoy novels are at their best when the author sticks to the setting he knows best: East Anglia's antiques trade. There's nothing more enjoyable than tagging along with Lovejoy as he chases antiques, women, and murderers through the English countryside. When Lovejoy takes off, you need a plot that bolsters the loss of place. "Paid And Loving Eyes" is second to only "The Great California Game" as the Lovejoy excursion with the most confusing and ridiculous plot. Some passages, especially the maid's sex expoits, include details that Lovejoy hasn't included before or since. This book seems to be written by a lazy Gash or a different person! The latecomer Lovejoy fan will enjoy the antiques lore, but I would not recommend this book to the general mystery fan

Monsieur Malaussène au théâtre
Published in Paperback by Gallimard (03 October, 1996)

Average review score:

A weak overview of the past four books.
This books was released just after the four books in the Malaussene series. The problem is, the author tries too hard to make it different from his other novels. (Mind you, it IS different, in the sense that this is the ONLY novel that doesn't deserve five stars.)

Basically, this novel is written like a play (hence the name "au theatre"), and it features the main character, Benjamin Malaussene, talking to his baby. The thing is, to understand all the topics mentioned in this book, you HAVE to have read the four previous books. And if you HAVE read the four previous books, then all 'Malaussene au theatre' is doing is repeating these events. But instead of happening, the events are merely told to another person (the baby) as if they were stories.

If that isn't bad enough, Malaussene tells things to his baby that he had already told him in some of the preceding books (where he was talking to his baby while his baby was still in the womb). The only difference now is that the baby is OUT of the womb. But there is no difference for the reader, who learns nothing new.

Basically, I'd call this book a waste of time, although you can hardly call it that: it's under ninety pages long.

Out-dated and superficial
It is always welcome to have new books about the social welfare system. Unfortunately, this books contains information that is rather out-dated. Most damagingly, the treatment here is really quite superficial. It may be useful for those who wish to have an overview of the matter, but it won't prove to be of great use to those who're looking forward to a more scholarly treatment of the subject matter.
