Essential for a serious student of physics
First I quite agree with the reviewer jnhrtmn... , so I won't repeat what he said. Physics in universities seems to be taught with little real reference to the history-- as if quantum mechanics and relativity sprung brilliantly out of someone's mind fresh out of the twentieth century. This book shows the importance of history in the development of physics-- and anyone seriously studying physics should read this book, to see how much the ideas of physics have evolved and been influenced by the past. Much of it requires a good math background--a knowledge of calculus is needed for much of it. It is sad that it is out of print--a publisher needs to make this available.

The most in your face account of physics progression.
I am an amateur physicist that thinks modern physics is more of a belief system than a science. This book is the most objective account of why science is where it is today. It is raw and readable. It leads you through the evidence as it happened. Hundreds of references. Meaty stuff, not just fluff for a book. You want insight into science you never had before, this book is a very good step.

WHERE'S CHARLTON HESTON?
The photographs in this book are awe-inspiring,although I have one eensy-weensy complaint.Where were the Charlton Heston photographs?I've seen more photographs of him in man-to-man interaction that have been the very embodiment of homoeroticism than anyone else.He had a way of interacting with other man that was in my opinion akin to homosexual desire.

Beautiful images!
I first got this book as a present, and thought that it would be a picture book about beefy gym-bodied men with little substance. Upon reading and looking through the book, my impressions were quickly turned around. This book has a wonderful collection of pictures dating back to the 1800s that show how men have been portrayed by various photographers through the years. Some images are very striking and almost appalling, while others accentuate male form. The text that accompanies the pictures is very informative and critical, making the reader think while he looks upon the images. This is a book that I now enjoy returning to in order to see that the male body has so many possible portrayals. I was even impressed to see my own college professor's work in the book!!

The House of Atreus : Abortion as a Human Rights Issue

The House of Atreus
This book reads like a devotional for the pro-life. You are not alone! The author exposes the pro-abortionists' deceptive use of language, designed to conceal the horror of their acts. Just as eugenics appealed to the "modern," and just as the Nazis appealed to the necessity for "saving" the race by "relieving" the aged and disabled of their "suffering," the pro-abortionists hide behind "liberation" and the necessity of "saving" women from the birth of "unwanted" children, denying their very humanity. With that logic, can infanticide be far behind? Euthanasia is already here. If slavery was the great crusade of the 19th Century, abortion is the great crusade of this century and the next! Thank you, James Bohan.

Excellent! A most timely work.
I highly recommend Bohan's book to anyone who wants to cut past the stale slogans and rhetoric and get to the truths which lie at the root of arguments in favor of abortion. Bohan masterfully exposes the hypocracy of such pro-abortion euphemisms as "product of conception," "termination procedure," and "reproductive health services." He then takes American society to task for abandoning the legacy of defense of the civil rights of ALL humans, a legacy handed down from such people as Albert Schweitzer and Martin Luther King, Jr, in favor of an ethic in which political and social expediency, sexual pleasure and material comfort are valued above human life. Best of all, Bohan compares America's abortion culture with the Greek legend of Atreus, whose family, generation after generation, exploited, killed and cannibalized their own children in order to further their own selfish interests. This book is sure to ruffle a few feathers, but is sure to provoke alot of thought, too.

How to Feel Good as You Age
John Barnett writes from personal experiece about getting the most out of life and death issues. He covers in an easily read and interesting way such issues as valuing your body, mind and spirit; how good nutrition helps to avoid disease; interacting with your doctor, caregivers and family; ways to stay in control of your life from your home, legal and financial options and determining when it's time to move; taking actions to leave your legacy stamped with your own personality that will help others to celebrate your individuality.

He deals with the sensitive subject of facing death and offers suggestions from his experience as a hospice worker who often interacts with dying people. A most helpful chapter is dealing with the death of a loved one, or your own death, helping to seek inner peace, and where this can take place. Good information is given to help us to know what happens as the body system shuts down and how the dying person enters the death experience in the last days and hours. He gives excellent suggestions as to what the family needs to do immediately after death, kinds of funerals and burials (there are more than one), informs about normal grieving for spouses, family and friends and then enters a discussion on the spouse being single again and socializing.

He writes an easy reading style with sensitivity and gives practical and helpful material. He lists books, web sites, and places where the reader can get more information. The book has an excellent index. Those sources alone are worth the book. Some issues are covered with the idea that more information is available in the sites listed. Other areas are dealt with in detail. He has an excellent balance of sharing information.

One quickly discovers that he is knowledgeable in this field. The bibiliography reveals the breadth of reading in this area. He balances theory, with his practical experiences of his profession. When he was diagnosed with Cancer, he began a search on how to become a survivor. He is a survivor and has shared his insights with us.

It is a book every family should have in its stack of important books. This book is an excellent resource for medical, social workers, clergy, teachers, families. I recommend it. It helps us to deal with basics of living.

How to feel Good as you age
Mr.Barnett's book "How to feel Good as you age" is the most complete treatise on this subject I have read. He has done an exceptional job researching material for this book I will certainly recommend it to all of my friends and shall keep is as a reference when problems in my life occur.

Amazing Introduction
This book has taken each little piece of what I know about the music world and tied it into a great mosaic. Marty has clearly shown how different aspects of the music world really work. As a young, aspiring musician myself, I am refreshed to see that somebody out there cares enough about me to make things a little bit easier. Marty has given a guidebook to my life, and life is looking really good now!

Incredibly helpful for a working musician
Marty Buttwinick draws on years of experience to provide an excellent guide to starting (and staying) as a working musician. The best feature of this book are the numerous checklists that span the entire career of a musician. There are checklists for every kind of band and every career.

The chapters are organized very well, which makes it easy to use this book as a reference. You can find whatever you need at a specific time.

Buy this book. I'd give it a million stars if there were more than five.

excellent book & resource for all career levels
okay...so maybe not ALL career levels. if you're julia roberts or deniro, i think you can pass up this book (but probably only because you're now rich enough to PAY someone to handle all this rigamarole for you, not b/c you couldn't learn anything from it). i have been an actor in nyc for the past 5 1/2 years, and when i picked up this book, i wrongly thought that it would be juvenile in tone and would offer me little that i didn't already know. not so. yes, the first few chapters deal with issues that many mid-career folks have already encountered, but the majority of the book is very informative and insightful even to hardened, old actors like myself - choosing an agent and/or manager, unions, protocol and etiquette, and my favorite, a chapter she calls 'getting a life.' she paints no pretty, glamorous picture of the biz, the info is updated and current, and it's a pleasant read. don't be a snobby actor...you've got something to learn; buy the book.

Super Book
This is a great book to guide an actor to the different aspects of chasing her/his dream. She gives advice in every possible thing an actor can face. Buy this book with your eyes closed.
I give it 5 stars despite the fact that I have a comment to the author. At the end of the book, she gives an advice that could detriment and help an actor not following this career. Because she writes that some well known actors, like Duchovny, after they reached the fame they have now, are not happy, and feel empty. I criticize her in this issue, because, she could have taken this information as an advantage to the actor, as an inspiration and not as a negative warning as she did, instead she could teach that sometimes actors chase this profession for the wrong reasons. She could have said that if an actor just want the money and fame, and is not interested also in the pleasure that acting brings, he or she will be disappointed, because once you get there, you will notice that you are the same person in the inside. She can use this information to show that the grade of frustration sometimes reached in this profession is not different from the one reached in other professions as well. I have a cousin who was in his 5th year of Medicine, and told me he was bored and tired, because he realized, medicine was not what he expected. That was 7 years ago. Today he is a radiologist, but he would rather be a full time Digital Photographer. So, there's no reason to disempower a future actor with a wrong interpretation of a fact. Because probably she will finish in another activity, that will bring even more dissatisfaction. And is well known that when we, actors, feel a little emptiness, is usually for a short time, while we recharge our batteries. On the other side, I have seen lots of other professionals, with years of frustration for not following their initial dream, but I have never seen a working actor frustrated because he wants to be a dentist or engineer.

Well organized; great prompts
This is a great read for those interested in writing their life story. Mr. Thomas goes from early childhood through retirement, and being a 20-something, some of the information did not apply. However, it is still well worth the reading. He has specific prompts, and works with small "chunks" of life. Entwined are guides to good writing, and other aspects of writing a great story.

A Must Read For Autobiographers
I've worked most of my adult life as an actor. One of my grandchildren was watching television and saw an old movie in which I appeared. "Grandpa, is that you?" After having to explain what I did for a living, it occurred to me that I was no different. I knew very little about my ancestors. At the time, I didn't know what my own grandfather (who died before I was born) did for a living. I wanted to make sure that future generations of my family know that I existed and what I did for a living. It was then that I realized how important it was to write my life's story to preserve my legacy.

Of all the books I researched when I first set out to undertake this task, I found Frank P. Thomas' "How to Write the Story of Your Life" to be among the most concise and most helpful. It became my constant companion as I spent those long hours at night in my study pounding away on my keyboard or sitting at the dining room table handwriting a vignette to be added to the book.

Thomas' book is laid out in an easy-to-read format, lending itself not only as a step-by-step guide, but sectionalized in such a way as to be used as a handy research resource manual. There is a lot of sound advice contained within his book that I found to be highly effective. For example, it helps not to ignore news and current events occurring during the telling of one's life, even if you don't actually relate the news items directly. By spending a few hours in the library to research certain magazine articles and newspaper headlines from a particular period, I found my memory banks were stimulated and I was often able to capture a flavor of the political climate, social mores, fashions, and/or cultural fads of the time. Those influences were incorporated into the events of my life. Sometimes I was able to relate to current events of the time directly, which helps to allow readers to identify with you personally.

Another important lesson I learned was that in order to capture and maintain a reader's attention, you must stimulate as many of his/her senses as you can. Therefore, I found myself going through my text trying to find places where I could introduce stimuli to sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell.

This is but a mere sampling of the invaluable direction I received from Thomas. The result was my autobiography was published under the title "Surrender the Jealous Mistress" (available through amazon.com), which I'm told is engaging and reads like a novel. If that's true, then I attribute a large portion of that compliment to Frank Thomas' sound advice and guidance.

No matter how insignificant you may perceive it to be (it's not), I encourage you to attempt to write your life's story. Once that decision is made, I highly recommend obtaining a copy of Frank Thomas' book, "How to Write the Story of Your Life," to guide you through the process.

How Would You Survive As an Ancient Egyptian?
I had to use this book as a report on Ancient Egypt. It had so much information on everything that I needed. It had information on mummies, life, and gods, and more all in this book. If it wasn't for this book I wouldn't be hear with a good grade.

How Would You Survive As An Ancient Egyptian?
As an educator and parent, I found this book to be phenomenol! The kids in my classroom were fascinated by all the details and illustrations that show what it was really like to be an Egyptian on a daily basis. It has a "quiz" at the end of the book that's fun to take to test your skills as to what you learned. This book really takes you back to Egypt and helps you put your own two feet into the real world of Egypt! Superb detail on every subject; housing, foods, typical daily life, women in society, mummification. Just wonderful!

DALE EARNHARDT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
Just by reading this book. You can tell that Dales memories will always live on forever. If you a HUGE Dale Earnhardt fan like myself, then this book is for you.

*We love you Dale. Your memories will always live in my heart til I see you in Heaven, racing on the tracks of gold. God bless.*

Dale Earnhardt is the BEST
In the book, I expected a lot more stories and anecdotes from racers; I could barely find any. But that's a minor detail. I am a hard-core Dale Earnhardt fan, and this book was very heart-warming. I love all the personal stories of Dale! I haven't gotten a chance to look at it all yet, but it's a wonderful book. I was not a huge racing fan (like I am now) when most of Dale Earnhardt's terrific achievements took place, and this book took me to that land. I'd like to thank whoever's book this is, because all I wanted was a book of tidbits like this, and now I have it. I completely treasure this book. If you are only looking for stories from racers like Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton (some of my personal faves) this may not be right for you, but if you luv the Earnhardts as much as I do, don't hesitate.
