Straight Information and a good read
As a cancer survivor, the author is obviously is passionate about his subject.

This book reads like a novel. Anyone with fifth grade reading skills will find it a pleasure to read compared to so many books on this subject that are too technical to hold ones interest. Author Ford keeps the pages turning with interesting stories from his own life as he seeks to bring some balance to the information about medical marijuana.

In the face of continual government propaganda, it's a pleasure to hear some truth regarding this sensitive and controversial subject. The author makes a clear case that marijuana has outstanding medical value, and presents sound reasons why this medicine is withheld from sick and dying patients. The book covers the history of marijuana; and how and why it is demonized and forbidden medicine.

Enlightenment for the New Millennium
Author David Ford sheds pure light on a controversial subject made so only by the government-based bias against marijuana and its medical benefits, benefits long known to be factual by anyone interested enough to research the subject as did Ford. Ford's interest, and his ability to put it all together for us in a book that should become a bible on the subject, enlightens all who care to read it and learn the facts. Our only hope should be that other book outlets have the courage to offer it to the public and are not hampered by "do-gooders" and others who don't want to know the truth and don't want others to know it either. "Marijuana: Not Guilty As Charged" is an honest book and to read it is a great way to kick off the new mellinnium with the pursuit of wisdom on all things, including marijuana. Hooray for Ford and his great book!

Let the Truth Be Known!!
I've been working with Cannabis Action Network for about 3 years now. I've recently walked away from doing any political work due to an armed robbery I fell victim to due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You would think that would have ended any relations I had with Marijuana at that point.

It's an interesting story but I wanted to say how after reading MARIJUANA: NOT GUILTY AS CHARGED and actually feeling a taste of the REAL drug war that does exist in America, this book helped me to not feel alone and to make sense of what is happening all around us that we take for granted or wish to not see and give our power over to those in Authority in whom we "feel" should be giving us the truth on drugs. When in most cases the story is far from the "truth" in America.

This book gave me encouragement to not be a VICTIM of the Crime of not knowing the facts on Marijuana and gave me a conviction in my heart to let the world know they're is healing, growth, and most importantly Hemp that can bring an impoverished land back to a land of healthy, strong, individually stable people.

After the robbery and learning so much about the legalization of marijuana from short excerpt of one page papers and people I came across, I then found this book. I had many books to choose from. this book seemed to have the right information and well spoken best of all it was all in one great book. I've managed to help many people while working as the Office Administrator for CAN after reading this book. Thank you David Ford for taking the time to reach all of the people you interviewed!

After talking to people across the US over the phone on counseling them for marijuana use while working at CAN I saw the overwhelming need of Americans who felt hopeless and alone due to pressures of family, church and friends.

I grew up living on the East Coast and this book helped convince me how wrong I've been in my thinking but that it's due to my upbringing and the way we are all taught in school and life.
This may be something we have all heard before but the way David Ford lays out the facts and in a well understood way brings one to a new state of enlightenment.

Great Book
My husband is one of Betty's nephews. All of the sisters had an incredible wit about them - probably because of their mother Sidney Bard. She did a wonderful job raising her children with out her beloved husband Darcy. It's too bad the children and grandchildren didn't learn lessons from Betty's books. She would be sad to see the way the family turned out.

Probably the best Writer of our Times
I have read and re-read each and every one of Betty MacDonald's Books. Simply cannot think of a writer that matches her brilliance in humour! If any of you other devotees know of any similar authors, I would be most grateful for the information. You may also want to check out the following: Ann Combs "Smith College Never Taught me to Salute" If you like Betty MacDonald, you'll like this one too!!!

Betty's Best Book
This is a sweet, wonderful book about the a family living through the depression in a Seattle that bears little resemblance to the blandly affluent city that today bears its name. The writing is still fresh and entertaining even though the book is more than fifty years old.

This is a great book for kids, as it explains the realities of the depression in a way that is much more understandable than most historical accounts. I first read it in 1977 when I was 12, and it gave me a wonderful insight into the lives of my depression generation parents.

I would recommend that everyone search out Betty's books and read them over and over, especially if you are a resident of Seattle or its environs. They are marvelous books from a marvelous author.

Beauty by the Book
I read Beauty by the Book. It was a very inspirational book. So much so that I am buying copies for my friends to read. Nancy Stafford explains through scripture, prayer and her own life experiences; how we should see ourselves the way that God sees us. Each chapter in this book gives inspiration about how beautiful we really are. I believe that every woman should read this book.

A MUST-READ FOR WOMEN OF ALL FAITHS!
I am not a Christian, but I found much to identify with as a woman in Beauty by the Book. This is a must-read for women of all faiths -- for any and all women who ever asked: Am I pretty enough? Am I smart enough? Am I good enough? Nancy Stafford shows us that the answer is a resounding YES once we learn to look beyond the exterior face and body the world sees, and focus on the inner beauty that lies within each and every one of us.

A Must Read
I heard Nancy speak on Focus on the Family and I immediately identified with her. I have struggled for many years with many of the same issues that Nancy discusses with such honesty in this book. I've come to realize that I'm not alone and that these types of struggles can be overcome. I appreciate Nancy's honesty and transparency about her own struggles. I still have a long way to go, but this book has given me hope that there IS light at the end of the tunnel. This book is for any woman who has ever struggled with these types of issues. This book touched me deeply and I cried many times as I read. A life changing and powerful book.

Excellent
This is an excellent book for those who, like me, are trying to understand what is shamanism, with the eventual perspective of becoming shamanic practitioners. The matter is tidily presented. This book is CLEAR! It was written by a person who has CLEAR ideas in his mind. It delivers knowledge (which doesn't mean it'll make a shaman out of the reader, of course). It explains the difference betweeen a psychotic, a shaman and a shaman pratictioner. It explains why people may want to journey in the non-ordinary reality. It is a book written for the reader. The only criticism I have is that journeying is presented as easy as eating breakfast. Potential problems are totally down-played.

The best book I have read on Shamanism yet!
I have read MANY book on Shamanism and various Shamanic religions, and this is the only book that has been given a place of honor in my personal library.

I also recommend

"Secrets of Shamanism..." Jose and Lena Stevens

"The Way of the Shaman" Michael Harner

What a fantastic source book!
The Cowans have done it again.

If you are looking for a practical, beautiful, meaningful handbook for core shamanism ... look no further.

This book is packed full of exercises, ideas, journeys, interpretations and core shamanic values. I have been studying shamanism, and this is the most useful introductory text I have come across. It will give you the principles you need in order to build your own shamanic practice, without forcing you down the path of a certain cultural shamanic tradition.

As Cowan says: not all of us are cut out to be actual Shamans, but anyone can be a shamanic practitioner.

I highly recommend this book, whether you are already a practitioner, or are interested in learning more. This is not a book you will regret buying, no matter how advanced your practice becomes over time.

Tarantula Keeper's Guide
Published in Hardcover by Sterling (April, 1984)
Author: Stanley Schultz
Amazon base price: $13.95
Average review score:

The most in-depth and detailed book on tarantulas to date!!
The Tarantula Keeper's Guide by Stan and Marguerite Schultz is by far the most informative book on tarantulas to date. Whether for the amateur fancier or professional arachnologist, this book will pay for itself in no time at all. Aimed primarily towards those interested in captive husbandry of arachnids, this book gives extensive information on care, housing, and feeding for spiderlings, juveniles, sub-adults and adults. In chapter 1, the anatomy and physiology of tarantulas are covered in great detail. Chapter 2 deals with taxonomy and scientific names; chapter 3 covers the life histories and ecology of these arachnids. Chapter 4 involves the uses of tarantulas throughout history while chapters 5,6, and 7 cover the "pet" aspect of tarantulas; this covers such subjects as housing, feeding, handling, breeding, medical emergencies, and much, much more. The final three chapters cover conservation issues. This well-designed book is packed with tons of colo! r photographs, greatly illustrated drawings, and accurate (up-to-date) names of many species commonly kept as pets. Unlike other tarantula books I've read--and I've read plenty--this book gives the first detailed description of how to catch your own tarantula. Other books have attempted this same task, but have not got the point across like this book. In all, this 288 page piece of art is the best book on tarantulas ever put together. Anybody with the slightest interest should purchase this book because it will spur one with mere curiosity into an out-of-control collector/hobbyist (such as me) and take you to the realm of the tarantula.

Excellent book for the tarantula hobbyist
This book is excellent from cover to cover. Detailed information on care, breeding, food, species, and biology are all in "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide". I was given a Chilean Rose tarantula as a gift 9 months ago and considered myself ignorant of their required care. "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide" was the most informative book out of 6 purchased. I now have over 35 tarantulas consisting of 28 species and consider myself much more knowledgable about their care and biology. I have even started breeding some of my tarantulas. You won't find a better book in print if you're a beginner or expert.

The T Bible
This is generally regarded as the tarantula keepers bible, which is a just assesment. Info on EVERY aspect of tarantula keeping from rearing, sexing, breeding feeding etc. VERY worthwhile investment for anyone who wants to keep tarantulas.

Teaching English Overseas - A Job Guide For Americans And Canadians
Published in Paperback by English International (10 February, 2000)
Author: Jeff Mohamed
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $22.00
Average review score:

Perfect
This is the best book to buy if you are an American or a Candian looking to teach English overseas. It covers everything from what to take with you to how the job markets currently look in differing parts of the world. Jeff Mohamed covers everything, there is even a section on how to avoid culture shock when you arrive in a foreign country.

This book is also packed with numerous contacts for everything you could possibly need, from organizations to send resumes to, places to get certified, and on and on.

This book will answer any questions you might have about teaching, for example he covers the pros and cons of the various certification programs, including the Cambridge/RSA TEFL certificate. And if you aren't happy with the book there is even an address in the beginning which you can send for a refund from the publisher.

If you are thinking about teaching English overseas (even if only for a year) this is the first book you should read.

Highly recommended

This is a great book
I've been teaching English as a Second Language in the US for three years and recently decided to go overseas. I bought Mr. Mohamed's book and have found it to be exactly what I needed: clear, informative and detailed. It has already helped me to obtain job offers in the areas where I most want to work, Thailand and China. I'm sure that the book's detailed advice on training, job searching and adapting to life abroad would be as useful to someone just entering TESL as it has been to me.

An excellent resource for the TESL/TEFL Professional
This book has a lot of excellent information about issues related to finding English teaching jobs overseas, as well as information about necessary training (and where to find it!). It references some other helpful books on teaching, informational websites, and more. I found this book to be a very nice guide for those new to the TEFL profession, as well as TESL/TEFL professionals who might wish to try teaching in a new country. The author obviously put quite a bit of time and research into this volume, and it shows.

Fingerpainting on the Moon : Writing and Creativity as a Path to Freedom

Here's a teacher you can learn from!
Peter Levitt leads his reader with quiet intimacy to a dual understanding, both personal and universal, about the power of imagination and creativity. Although he writes from the perspective of a writer, he embraces all art forms in this valuable book. If you work in any area of expression as a visual artist, musician, dancer, actor or writer, you will find support here for doing your best work and quieting the critic that threatens always to undermine effort and persistence. Peter Levitt enjoins the reader with humor, with real stories that reveal moments of magic, and with a gentle approach to exercises designed to deepen your artistic practice and commitment. His approach gives you courage to risk allowing your imagination to go where it has not ventured before. And somewhere along the way, as you read through the chapters and take in the exercises, you will discover that he is talking about not only art and its possibilities and how to encourage them, but about life itself.

Necessary Wisdom
I just read Peter Levitt's Fingerpainting on the Moon and feel it should be required reading for this 21st century. It's written not just for artists, but for "all who long to return to their creative source." Levitt's down-to-earth lessons will surprise you, taking you deep within yourself as well as reconnecting you to the expansive world around you. He writes in a direct, honest, but gently engaging way - with stories, suggestions, a few simple words - that lead you into each chapter's amazing journey of self-discovery. This book inspires us to embrace both the ordinary and the extraordinary in our lives, what Levitt calls the "beautiful particulars," with lasting gratitude and delight.

A special book from a special teacher
Peter Levitt was one of my teachers in graduate school. I'd been waiting for this book for several years, and I was not disappointed. I think this book takes the reader (participant) deep into their own psyches -- it is very meaty and dense -- in that these are not "fluff" exercises and concepts. I will be able to use many of these exercises with my students, as well as with my own creative process. This is a wonderful investment in your creative life.

Excellent book of unusual models
The models in the book are clearly "different" from those in most other origami books. There are very few animal models (although the ones that are here are terrific, in particular his dragon model).

The action models are excellent and unlike the typical "flapping bird", etc.

Most of the models are quite foldable, and in the intermediate to high-intermediate range, and all use a single, uncut square.

Origami to Astonish and Amuse : Over 400 Original Models, In
The book had many fun, yet ODD projects. And definitely, not for beginners. Although, there are some that beginners can do.

Amusing origami at its best
This book is clearly designed to amuse. Most of the subjects are not serious, but rather a humorous or otherwise twisted take on classic origami. A few of the steller models include the pocket knife (folding, complete with multiple utensils) and nail-clippers. Other interesting models include a box with four classic cranes built into the lid, a surfer on a wave (action model) and the invisible duck (to be folded out of invisible paper of course, the wackiness of the book is evident here).

Overall grade:
8.6 out of 10

Recommended to everyone who doesn't require serious models. Plenty of models to challenge all skill levels.

GREAT BOOK FOR FOLKS OF ALL INCOME LEVELS
I would highly recommend this book and the other two Tightwad Gazette books. They are well worth the purchase price for anyone with a financial goal and not much money to meet it.

An excellent investment
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would buy it for the same reason I would buy a dictionary: I keep referring back to it so much that if I had to go to the library I would use extra money for gasoline. If I had to go to the web for the same information, I would end up raising my electricity bill. It's more than the recipes and resources. It's more than the tips and techniques. The reason I love this book is because it's a source of encouragement. I don't feel powerless anymore over my money. I feel like I can choose what is important to me and what I should be spending money on. Not the other way around. That's really all tightwaddery is about and that is the whole point of this book.

If you really want to understand the philosophy side of tightwaddery, I recommend you search for the first volume of the Tightwad Gazette (which is out of print) or go ahead and buy the Complete Tightwad Gazette. It's a very good investment.

More than penny pinching
This is much more than a book on tips to save money. Along with Tightwad I and III, this is a bible for managing a household on less. Her philosophies on material goods and spending really resonate with me. These books are the most used and well-worn books in my library. I bought it in hardcover long ago, and thought it was worth every cent. Now that it's in paperback, I don't see any reason why one shouldn't own this book.

A great collection of inspirational reading
Although I was familiar with As A Man Thinketh, I had not read other works by James Allen. This book has five of James Allen's works that all provide insight into living life as a positive, productive person.

This book can help you change your MIND !!!!!!!
Our thoughts and perceptions are who we are. I have search for years for a book that would teach me , simply how to have the right frame of mind to deal with life---most of us don't really know how. I used some of the principals of this book this morning,I was feeling overwelmed and anxious,I was allowing circumstances to controll me instead of me controlling the circumstances, I decided to have a good day and I did.
I have spent a fortune on books ( my passion ) there are three
books I HIGHLY recommend (1) The Bible, (2) The Wisdom of James Allen, (3) Boundaries,(when to say yes and when to say no)

It's all in the MIND
This book is an omnibus of James Allen's five great classics. It includes, and begins with, his most popular book, "As a Man Thinketh."

I damire James Allen's philosophy. It is a mixture of "The Gospel of Work," the idea of "Progess," Buddhist stocism, and Christian precept. Its main topic is human empowerment by mental disciple. I cannot argue with this intent and belivef. What would I bde like if I just focused my self a lttle more?

I got this book on the reccomendation of several leaders wiothin my Christian denomination. I see why. He has Christ's (and Socrates's) encouraging voice that asserts truth witou being overbearing or hardening into a prideful dogma. I beluive that is why he endures: he speaks the truth in a peaceful voice.

Many people belive he preaches Christianity, but Christinaity's central doctrine is the Atonement of Christ, and this doctrine is absolutely absent for Allen's writings. None theless, this is a good book. I have become a better person by reading and applying his doctrine. Besides, my computer is not specifically Christian, and Amazon.com is not a Christian company, but I would not trade these two things away for anything, even though they are not specifically Christian.
