This book is exactly a guide to the types of writing engineers have to do, put in terms engineers understand.

The authors present analogies that help engineers understand "soft" topics like revising for clarity. For example, they describe poor writing as having a lot of "noise" in the "signal", and then describe specific strategies for reducing noise.

They describe most of the common types of documents that engineers write, such as reports, specifications, proposals, and even business letters and email messages. They describe the format and typical contents for each type of document, while also noting what *not* to worry about. For example "Don't get hung up on the names of reports. Sorry, there is no ANSI standards committee on the proper names, contents, and formats of reports."

This is an excellent book for any engineer who has to write on the job, which is to say, any engineer.

Traditionally, technical writing is the least favored topic for engineers. This nice, concise book is a great guide for those of us who have a hard time remembering the rules and understanding how to communicate effectively.

This book covers all aspects of guinea pig ownership, and presents it in an easy to read, easy to find what you're looking for way. There are differnt sections for indoor and outdoor guinea pigs, so however you are going to keep your pig you get information how to in this book. Then there are sections to help you understand the guinea pigs lauguage and body launguage, showing, breeds of piggies and alot of other things. There is a list of common health problems that guinea pigs have with descriptions of the symptoms. One thing I found very helpfull was the section on how to introduce a guinea pig to other pets, and how to potty train them.
I read this book over and over again not just for the information but also for the nice pictures and the great way that a guinea pigs wonderful personality that guinea pigs have. If you have a guinea pig you should have this book.

FINALLY!!! A book devoted to the joys of pet guinea pigs--not breeding fuzz factories, not commercial commodities, but COMPANIONS! Proves guinea pigs are playful and fun--they don't just sit there. A joy to read--especially for those of us who remember Audrey when she was the editor of Horse Illustrated. Engaging, informative, helpful text written by a true lover of animals. The illustrations are also lavish, helpful, at times hysterical and heavy on cute. Also has a big listing of books, clubs and a tiny website listing--still, very accurate. The only quibbles are that housing piggies outdoors is information grudgingly given as Audrey advocates keeping them indoors. No information about pregancy and raising young is to be found, as she advocates letting breeders do that. However, so many people find that their new piggie just happens to be pregnant, not due to any planned breeding, that this information is needed for those caring piggy slaves who have no idea what to expect. Still, quibbles aside, a must have book for those who love guinea pigs.

Although many authors make poor readers of their own material, this audiotape is a definite exception to the rule. In these very personal and transparent vignettes, Keith Miller reveals the struggles and subtle temptations that beset the "successful" Christian author and lecturer. His honest appraisal of his own failings prompts a more thorough soul-searching of our own "dragons". Frequently, while listening to him describe his struggles with insecurities, anxiety, escapism, pride, self-doubt and ordinary family challenges, I recognized the similarities in my reactions to circumstances. These are tapes you will want to savor...and then return to somewhere down your spiritual walk, to check on your progress. By participating in the heart-felt prayers at the end of each story, it kept the tone positive and hopeful.

I've used this little paperback so many times over the years, the pages are falling apart. Rev. Miller's ability to laugh at his own foibles and change his own attitudes are inspirational for those of us who know we are never going to be perfect, but who would like to keep on trying

Not only does this book contain a huge assortment of extremely clean and scannable examples of ornamental designs from different periods and cultures, but also provides diagrams and information you can use to create your own original designs in a given style. This may be the last book I buy (except newer copies of THIS book!) on ornamental design.

I have used this book for years for picture frame design. This book has a great general over look of ornament styles.The chapters are object types witch help in reasearch for design decisions.I seem to ware out a book about every 4 years.I recoment this book for design ornamentation problems.

This book has helped me through some healing processes, especially the healing of relationships hurt over years. I found it extremely beneficial and helpful. It is as well written as the other book by the same authors. I would recommend it to anyone.

Lay people who want to minister to the hurting people they meet will need help as they come face to face with the pain of others. In this beautifully crafted book Jan Alkire and Father Leo Thomas O.P. give concrete ways for lay people to work in their parishes, as part of a parish team, to bring compassion to the hurting, to help people get to the roots of pain and help bring healing to those who are suffering.

First off, for those who are confuse, (I know I was), The healing in the Vine is, indeed, the re-titled version of Briar's book. And, as it happens, is possibly my favorite book on Earth. It tells about how Briar must dive into the sea of sick in order to save his friends, not to mention the hundreds of other dying, and then, at the far end of the book, Rosethorn comes down with the illness! Briar dives into death to save her, but does she survive? Now, you'll just have to read it, won't you?

This is a strange name for one of my favorite Tamora Pierce Books. Unless I am mistaken, it is really the book in the Circle of Magic series known as Briar's Book, and is truly an excellent fantasy story. I love all of Tamora Pierce's books, from the Lioness and Immortals Quartets, to Protector of the Small and the Circle of magic stories. I love fantasy... don't get confused by the strange name of this book!!! It is a very excellent story, and one that every fantasy lover should read.

An excellent, readable, knowledgeable text book that will be referred to again and again. It contains so much information, and is indexed accurately so that you can find the relevant answers quickly. Diagrams are informative and useful.
To me this book is recommended for those already practicing H.T., or for those interested in gaining insight into Healing Touch with a view to entering the H.T. program. The Healing Touch program encourages people to participate in continued, life-long learning, and this book is a valuable resource.

No need for 1,000 more words. The above says it all. I loaned my copy to a client, forgot which one, and now must buy another. Can't practice without it.

This is a great little book for kids (and adults too!) Reminds me of being a little girl in the local 4-H Club, doing the cooking classes after school. Good recipes and very original artwork.

Not only is this a beautifully illustrated book, but it features really fun, delicious and easy to make recipes. I have two kids who are really picky about what they eat and I'm always on the look out for ways to get them to eat healthy. I am in total agreement with the author who believes that half the battle in getting kids to eat healthy is to feed them in an a relaxed environment.

I'm looking forward to her next book!

With this book you will read and read again.  What better compliment can a book and its author receive? 

The emphasis here is on pizzazz for the garden. But, it is not fussy plants with difficult requirements, Ms. Gardner is suggesting, rather the uncomplicated perfection of blooming herbs. What could be easier than herbs? Plants that are disregarded as weeds by the unknowing, but prized by those who value their tenacious and giving nature. And, since Ms. Gardner gardens in Nova Scotia, a zone 4 climate, she is very familiar with the word difficult.

Indeed one of the aspects of this book that makes it valuable is her familiarity with colder zones. Another plus is that she is truly a gardener. How do we know? Because only a gardener would describe Catmint as smelling like Cinnamon. This book is full of personal revelations that come only from experience. Experience that we can benefit from by reading this book.

Eighty herbs are profiled for their value in beautifying the landscape or garden. There are many photos of her selections, including photos of more unusual herbs like Dittany. Also, while discussing Oregano, for example, she mentions numerous kinds, which brings the number of herbs discussed to around 700.

Herbs in Bloom: a simply perfect idea.

There are many flowers I would never have thought of as herbs, but the concise definition of herbs in your preface cleared up my previous misconceptions...HERBS IN BLOOM is a perfect complement to LIVING WITH HERBS."

Ortega has picked me up from the vast void of reality and has put me in place. Hidden between the lines you will find the fact that precedes all facts, that from which everything flows (even science) to be discovered by accident. i cannot imagine any more powerful integration of knowledge than this book. he gave me what i was looking for and more, and now what else?

I first read the essay "History as a System" (only one of the essays included in this book) in conjunction with David Copperfield's autobiographical project and Rousseau's "Confessions." This facinating essay explores the creation of a historical consciousness and suggests that "whether he be original or a plagerist, man is the novelist of himself." Ortega suggests that we are continually "writing" ourselves, becoming dissatisfied with that version, and then "revising" ourselves into something new. It's a vision of constant change.

Ortega is one of this century's most important philosophers and is not read nearly enough. Anyone interested in late 19th or 20th century literature and philosophy should not miss this book.
