The last word and first choice for hydrophiliacs
An absolutely beautiful celebration of the enema as an erotic experience. A very tasteful, scholarly, and genuinely sexy book for adults of all orientations. Positive emphasis on male/male, but not for Gays only.

a must-read for anyone with a sexual sense of humor!
Entertaining, literate, witty, perverse, endlessly fascinating, this book traces the history of the enema and all of its unpredictable manifestations throughout the ages. Really quite a masterpiece in its own funny way. DO NOT bypass just because of the subject matter! Tremendous illustrations!

Great strategies for the elderly or arthritic
I purchased this for my mother who is notoriously inconsistent with exercise. She received it and immediately began using the ideas to increase her activity level. She especially liked the informal language and the ease with which the exercises can be done.

Great exercise book for beginners, elderly, infirm.
This upbeat book provides a series of gentle exercises to promote flexibility, coordination, and balance. It has a chapter encouraging walking for aerobic activity. It is designed for elderly who are beginning to exercise, but is good for anyone who needs a comprehensive but light exercise program. The exercises are simple, enjoyable, and many can be done while sitting. This book has large type for easy reading and is well illustrated. It is a large softcover book, 8.5 x 11 inches with 112 pages.

The Experience of Being Creative As a Spiritual Practice: A Hermeneutic-Phenomenological Study (Revisioning Philosophy, Vol. 27.)

The Spiritual Nature of Creativity
What makes this book so special is not only the extensive and excellent review of the understanding of creativity and the spiritual experience from the psychological, religious and theoretical viewpoint, but the vivid, illuminating insights of practicing artists as they offer their personal experiences.

Peggy Thayer asked artists to describe their own experience of being creative as a spiritual practice. "Basically, it feels like allowing...allowing myself to do what occurs...judgements slip away and trust increases..." or "when one is aware of the hunting of oneself through the creative act then life becomes a spiritual practice...the creative act is a transformation of the soul, spirit, and ego. The mind and the ego have to, in a sense, move over."

This author takes these thoughtful personal insights of the artists and through a process of unitive intuition she reaches thematic commonalities. There is a sense of intention and reception in the creative experience, the very clear sense for the artist as being in relationship with self, with other, and with universal creation, the shifting sense of self, one's world and one's journey-- these are a few of the themes in store for the reader.

Ms Thayer completes her book with a beautiful personal reflection of an exhilarating yet humbling experience as she worked with the themes and found "the intuitive pull became a link to the spiritual."

THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING CREATIVE AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Peggy Thayer combines two essential aspects of any attempt to understand creativity as a spiritual experience. First, in understanding the artist's own introspective experience in creating a work of art Peggy presents a description of her own process of creating and includes intensive interviews with ten practicing artists. Second, understanding the spiritual essence of creativity by a brilliant synthesis/ review of the thoughts of scholars from the spiritual/ religious traditions, theoreticians, art historians, and writers.
Each page holds provocative gems of thought. For example..."When one begins the creative process, one leaves the ordinary world behind....to the universal creative source." "Creativity is an instinct all people possess..." Painting is a language of intuition." "Many of the artists speak of their experience of being creative as an ongoing relationship or participation in Universal Creation." "It is this experience of spontaneous allowing, of letting be, that is felt as spiritual."
It is a must read for those interested in creativity and it's relation to the world of the spiritual.

Extended Phenotype: The Gene As the Unit of Selection
Published in Hardcover by W H Freeman & Co. (May, 1982)
Author: Richard Dawkins
Amazon base price: $28.95

A Classic Biology Text
I assume that no one has entered reviews of this book because it is so well known among knowledgeable biologists. For new students not familiar with this book, it is fundamental to research that is now underway in genetics and in sociobiology. In order to establish a foundation for further study in this field, this book is an absolute necessity, along with _The Selfish Gene_ also by Dawkins and the entire body of his lifelong work. To call this work "monumental" is an understatement. It belongs in the same category as Darwin's work, because it is a natural extension of it.

Best I ever read!
This book reveals the essence of life.

Ideal for the classroom and beyond...
Perdita Huston writes about what she is most interested in - people. A quintessential listener and superb raconteur, she enables her readers to see women, men, children and families as for the first time. We savor her eye for detail about their daily lives, her wonderment at their tenacity to survive under a variety of conditions, their boundless energy to create, derive joy and find humor even in dire circumstances, and soar to admirable heights of compassion and sacrifice. What Perdita has done in is make tangible the universality of the human condition. She writes with a unique faith in the ties that bind us and an inspiring optimism that these ties will indeed move us toward a better world. Her latest book offers a laboratory of cases, issues, and reflections -- ideal for discussion in high school and college classrooms and book clubs.

PERDITA HUSTON TELLS IT LIKE IT IS ABOUT FAMILIES WORLDWIDE!
Perdita Huston's FAMILIES AS WE ARE (2001), published by The Feminist Press of the City University of New York, is an astonishing book likely to change government policy and ideas about support for families everywhere. Huston is a feminist former government administrator (Peace Corps Regional Director for North Africa, the Near East, Asia, the Pacific, and Peace Corp chief in both Mali and Bulgaria) whose writing is a pleasure to read.... interesting, compelling, literary, easy to read, and substantial.

She takes her reader on an armchair round the world tour of visits to representative families in Japan, Thailand, Bangladesh, China, Mali, Uganda, Egypt, Jordan, Brazil, El Salvador, and the USA. Her in depth interviews make the important point that families around the world are alive and well, and surviving in new and different, often imaginative ways sometimes controversial, but destined to be accepted in time by people who may now question the need for change and new solutions to problems of family survival. Government action and policy changes are needed to support family survival efforts Huston describes, and she makes a good case for looking at old, classical problems in new ways.

Former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations Richard C. Holbrooke, author of TO END A WAR, offers a touching Foreward to Perdita Huston's book, and states "she is, in her way, still the scribe of Constantinois, writing down the words and thoughts of the voiceless, helping give them shape and, above all, giving them to us." Ambassador Holbrooke clearly admires Perdita Huston, and anyone who reads her wonderful book can quickly understand why.

Huston's book is a curious and wonderful combination of hard, politically shocking facts and quiet, humane reflection and communication about delicate and often undiscussed and unrevealed important needs human beings have around the world, needs not confined to particular regions or countries of the world. Problems Perdita Huston reveals in FAMILIES AS WE ARE (2001) are truly universal. They exist worldwide, far away and also in our own back yards. They are not to be run away from. They are to be faced carefully and intelligently.

Perdita Huston is a new kind of feminist. Her communications style is refreshingly diplomatic and careful. It calls for solutions to problems without scapegoats or bromides. Implicitly, Huston invites non-Feminist females and sympathetic males to join Feminists concerned about the very subject of families, their survival, and resources they need. FAMILIES AS WE ARE (2001) sets a new standard in Feminist communications and polemics, and is bound to make friends for Feminism and its goals worldwide. Hopefully, other Feminists will notice her new style, and give us more of the same.

Perdita Huston provides us with important information about an important subject not to be ignored or trivialized....the survival of the family as an institution. Her words are bound to bring tears to the eyes of readers, and to make them call for government action and change as it concerns the subject of the family.

All this said, FAMILIES AS WE ARE (2001) is a hopeful and optimistic book, truly memorable and likely to become a classic read and re-read by thoughtful people for decades to come. We owe a lot to Perdita Huston for writing it.

A Great Adult ESL Level One Textbook
If you are looking for one book that does it all, this is it. Don't confuse this book with "Side-by-Side" just because it has the same author. It is an entirely different beast and everything "Side-by-Side" is not. I use this book as a main textbook with community ed ESL classes and as a supplemental textbook with some workplace ESL classes. My level one students loved this book so much that all the other level one classes at our site gave up their textbooks and switched to this one. It presents the material in appropriate, manageable chunks and it progresses through topics which are extremely appropriate for adults. It's organization is excellent, varying the skills used, and each lesson leaves students feeling like they are learning. This is a good general textbook including conversation, listening, speaking, grammar, TPR, and writing activities. It is a general ESL textbook and not a literacy textbook, however, so for students with low L1 literacy, I supplement this textbook with Molinsky's book "Access" and Linda Mrowicki's book "Pre-reading Resource Book". I have also used Mrowicki's "First Words in English", and "Starting to Read" (Linmore Publishing) as companion texts or as supplemental texts, depending on the class.

Foundations
One of the best way to learn communicate an English Language. The kids enjoy talk and listen new languages, and learn too!!! Foundations has a lot of exercises with fun and really situations that invite the conversation together. Is the Foundation for new conversation, for new students at English.

Four Comedies
This book contains the four "best" comedies of Shakespeare, along with an excellent foreword by Joseph Papp. For each play, it contains a very well written introduction (one that is not only on the play, but links each of them together), Shakespeare's original source material (example: "A Merry Jest of a Shrewd and Curst Wife Lapped in Morel's Skin" for "the Taming of the Shrew"), and well commented textual notes. I found this collection particularly useful for an "upper-level" look at these four plays.

Very classic, humorous veiw of shakespeare's funny side.
