Call me surprised
My friend Karen Helms loaned me her copy of this delightful book, which she figured I'd cotton to because our family dog is a papillon. As a realist who views things anthropomorphic with suspicion, I doubted author Dennis Fried could make readers believe his papillon Genevieve wrote this book. "How silly," I thought. "He'll never pull it off."

I thought wrong. Fried did pull it off, with remarkable creativity and humor and a great deal of insight. He must have had a tremendous amount of help from the lovely Genevieve.

If you've ever wondered what your dog is thinking (and are sure you want to know), feisty little Genevieve will tell you in no uncertain terms.

So, take a break from the rat race. Let Genevieve teach you the fine art of "zooming." A few zooms around the living room will make you feel like a pup again. No bones about it.

This adorable book is a must read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this humorously candid look at life from a dog's point of view. I chuckled throughout the whole book.

Not only does Genevieve, the Papillon, gives the reader tips on how a dog should help it's owner drive, she also asks the question of why cats even have to share a space with dogs. She touches on all the important things in a dog's life.

This book isn't just for dog owners or even Papillon owners. This book is a fun read for everybody. It is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

The best book I've ever read!
The best book written by a dog. It tells what the dog is thinking, also tells if your a good owner with Genevieve's test, plus alot more. I recomend this book to anyone who has a dog(especially papillon owners),or is a pap lover!

This book is perfect for new owners. It is direct and to the point. The illustrations were beautiful. As a breeder of sugar gliders, I reccomend this book to new owners.

Sugar Gliders : Everything About Purchase, Care, Nutrition,
This was the book I bought when I was considering getting sugar gliders. I read it from cover to cover and now that I've had sugar gliders for nearly two years I know that this book helped me learn everything I needed to know to have happy, healthy sugar gliders. I would recommend this book to everyone who is even thinking about getting gliders.

Yes, EVERYTHING (almost) you wanted to know.
EXCELLENT 1st book. Small but loaded with valuable info. Buy it new however, I had a disasterous condition used book sent to me.

I'm as Quick as a Cricket

"I'm as quick as a cricket, I'm as slow as a snail. I'm as small as an ant, I'm as large as a whale." Parents and teachers choose this big square book for the message of self-confidence. Toddlers love it for the singsong phrases and Don Wood's large, silly, endearing illustrations, which feature a boy mimicking different kinds of animals. At one point, he is pictured sipping tea formally with a fancy poodle ("I'm as tame as a poodle") and on the very next page he is swinging through trees ("I'm as wild as a chimp"). Whether brave or shy, strong or weak, in the end the young boy celebrates all different, apparently contradictory parts of himself. With a confident grin, he lifts his arms up and declares, "Put it all together and you've got ME!" (Baby to age 6)

Beautiful pictures- lovely sentiment-
This is a great book- it celebrates the complexities of our personality in a way that makes sense to young children. Different animals are used to illustrate different facets of our personality- quick as a cricket, loud as a lion, shy as a shrimp, etc. The illustrations are just gorgeous, and can help children learn about a variety of animals in the natural world, as the animals are not shown in a zoo setting. I appreciate that the child can be seen as either a little girl or a little boy, since there are so many books need to enforce gender roles right from the beginning. This book is truly a gem for the 2-6 range. At least, my 2 yo son loves it, and will imitate the animals!

My 20 month old son LOVES this book! 1st time mom at 44
My son eyes new books suspiciously - almost like I was trying to sneak a new child into the house without checking with him first. His books are a closed circle of friends and he loves the familiar, well worn pages that he can rattle off by heart. So I was amazed when he took to this book immediately and with gusto, rattling off the animal names within days. Quick as a cricket, slow as a snail, small as an ant, large as a whale, ...there are sad bassetts, happy larks, tame poodles, busy bees, lazy lizards, tough rhinos...you name it. This books has the essential ingredients for every toddler book - beautiful artwork, rhyme and rhythm to the words, and interesting characters to capture little imaginations. I love the Woods but not all their books are for tots this age since they can get a little bizarre sometimes. This ranks right up there in the book world the way Raffi does in the music world of toddlers!

I'm as Quick as a Cricket
My children all grew up with this book. My oldest child is handicapped and ABSOLUTELY loves this book over all the others. When read with enthusiasm and accents on the words, it makes it all the more enjoyable. The last page with the big smile is the ultimate ending and my daughter pulls the book to her face with glee. If you enjoy reading to your kids and enjoy wonderful pictures---this is a keeper. This is at the top of my list and has been for years. All of the new nieces and nephews recieve this as a gift. Absolutely the greatest!!

Packs a Powerful Emotional Punch!!
From the beginning to the end, A Smile As Big As the Moon pulls you into the emotional triumphs and tragedies of a group of special needs kids who really just wanted to be like everyone else.Visiting Space Camp is a pretty straighforward thing for most kids, but for these special needs kids it was like reaching for the moon. You really feel like you are a part of the story. Mike Kersjes's book is very easy to read and well worth the time.

A powerful and inspiring book
After reading "A Smile As Big As The Moon" by Micheal Kersjes, I can only say bravo! Mr. Kersjes has written a wonderful story about the power of the human spirit. I have found a new respect for all special education teachers. He shows in this book that faith and hard work can accomplish anything. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys stories of triumph over adversity.

Absolutely uplifting!
I usually prefer fiction books, however, this true story of a teacher so dedicated to his students was too hard to resist. It is uplifting and motivating to see that there are others in education who will put their heart and soul into helping their students succeed! So many children need teachers like Mike and Robynn.

THIS IS NOT JUST AN ENGLISH DICTIONARY. THIS IS AN ARTWORK ON LINGUISTIC SCIENCE! YOU WILL BE AMAZED TO SEE EACH AND EVERY WORDS WITH NATURALLY,SCIENTIFICALLY STRUCTURED EXAMPLES WITH VERY SPECIAL CARE. IT'S WELL WORTH CHECKING IT OUT AS SOON AS YOU CAN,ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER! ONCE YOU'VE FOUND WHAT'S INSIDE IT, MAN, YOU WILL LOVE IT! I BET YOU WILL PROUDLY CALL IT THE BEST ENGLISH DICTIONARY IN THE WORLD YOU'VE EVER FOUND!

The absolute best dictionary out there for ESL students.
This is not a "junior dictionary." This dictionary is a 100% up-to-date state of the art dictionary with a comprehensive listing of any word you might encounter as well as a key for how to use it in a sentence. With that key, students can figure out how to use the word properly in speech and composition. The dictionary itself is a learning tool because the definitions of the 60,000+ words included are limited to a 2000-word vocabulary, giving the student practice while learning new words. Additionally, the dictionary has many illustrations and diagrams which list thematic vocabulary (for example everything that is under the hood of a car or everything that is in a fully-equipped kitchen). The definitions are clear and precise: look at the definition for the word "piece." In that definition you will find a flow-chart with questions like, "Is it solid?" "Is it thin?" and so on, leading the learner to words like "drop, dash, squirt, wisp, chunk, slice, slab, segment, grain, speck...." My reading students, whose first language is English, love this book also, because the defining vocabulary is within their range. It is comprehensive enough that even teachers will find definitions of unfamiliar words (for example, I just learned that "chock" is a block of wood used to wedge under a tire). This book is the best investment a student can make. It is also an investment that every teacher should make in service to his/her students

A small glitch. (One of the best dictionaries ever!)
I like the book very much. I love it. I keep it in a saft place, I always put it away after studying. NOTE:
I've found a bug on page 1637, look at the entry "widow", (NOT window).
the entry has "-see aslo GRASS WIDOW" cross-reference, but I can't find the entry "grass widow", the nearest entry found is "grassy". I'm not complaining. The dictionary is very useful, very handy. I'm a foreign student studying Computer Science in US. Excuse my English.

Ordinary and Sacred As Blood: Alabama Women Speak

A wonderful "bedside table" reader!
"Ordinary and Sadred as Blood" is great to keep on your bedside table to dip into for a poem or two, a humorous essay, a memoirs piece. There are a lot of talented Alabama women writers! Editor Moran is right when she says these voices are "funny, outrageous, poignant or pointed, and always genuine." I have found the birthday and Christmas gift-book for all the women in my family.

This is a wonderful collection of Southern women's writings
I loved this book. The words are written by Alabama women, but the themes are universal. Mary Carol Moran has done a masterful job of pulling together poems, essays, and short stories that make you catch your breath.

What a delightful surprise!
I just stumbled across this book in the Birmingham Museum of Art and what a delightful surprise! What a showcase of Alabama women's writing talents. From silly to serious, this book covers it all, from crib to cradle. It left me asking when's the next one coming out and where can I get it!

Money Talks: How to Make a Million As a Speaker
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill (November, 1997)
Author: Alan Weiss
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Well worth the investment.
Having been a professional speaker for nearly 20 years, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Alan debunks popular myths about the profession, and tells it like it really is. A must read for anyone considering entering the speaking business, as well as for those who've been around.

And You Should Listen!
I was hooked from the introduction! I knew right away that Alan Weiss is a no-nonsense, let's get down to business, kind of guy. Everything from establishing your value to the client, to distinguishing between your client and your buyer - perhaps one of the biggest factors leading to my current level of success - to simply figuring out what type of speaker you already are. Alan has made sure that we - I'm a Corporate Entertainer / Speaker - rememebr that Professional Speaking is first and fore most, a business. This book can be valuable to anyone who is self employed or at least thinks that way. If it's not on your shelf it should be in your hands!

Great Nuts-and-Bolts Advice for New and Experienced Speakers
Alan Weiss doesn't pull any punches. "Money Talks" is loaded with solid, specific advice you won't find elsewhere. From platform skills to marketing to leveraging your knowledge to create passive income and make yourself a star, he covers what you need to know to make it as a professional speaker.

The only thing lacking in this book is information about marketing yourself on the Internet. I'm hoping that if there is a second edition there will be a chapter included on the Internet. Even without it, this book belongs in the library of every speaker.

The best time to get this book is when you are just thinking about launching a speaking career, but it will benefit anyone who speaks professionally or hopes to one day.

The most informative book about rats available
Debbie Ducommun is well-known and her knowledge of rats has helped many people. Her book is informative, covering everything from the origin of the domesticated rat, to checking for mycoplasmosis. The only thing missing from this book is a complete list of fancy varieties.

Great book!!!
As a rat breeder and 4-H leader I recommend this book. All the basics+ for caring for rats. Also makes a wonderful study guide for kids with a 4-H rat project!

The Ultimate Care Guide
This is the most complete and accurate guide to caring for pets rats that I have ever read. It is a terrible shame that it has been allowed to go out of print. It is an indispensible reference for new and experienced rat owners. Nutrition, training, history, health...it's all here, along with some really cute photos.

Pretty is as Pretty Does
Having grown up in a small close-knit community in Illinois, I identified with many of the issues confronting Lucy, the main character in *Pretty is as Pretty Does.* I especially appreciated the author's way of capturing the narrowness and naivite of such small Midwestern towns and especially of the plight of the young people raised in that environment. Lucy fell right into the role expected of her, and her prettiness opened the door to the maximum opportunity offered in such a setting: marriage. Only after meeting Billy did she understand passion. Her unbridled passion was what seemed so uncharacteristically Midwestern to me. Clement's book captured a lot of that smalltown sentiment, and her images of not only the town activities but also the characters rang true. I like the fact that a person from such a background can break the mold. Doing it with humor like Lucy is even more entertaining.

Vernacular Writing at Its Best!
I highly recommend this book. It's vernacular writing creates an aura of in-your-face honesty. The flawed heroine is Lucy Fooshee, a former beauty queen from a small town in southern Illinois. She's spunky, brash and often hilarious, sporting her tiara and pouty lips with pride. Lucy stops at nothing to win the heart of the best looking man in town, even though she's been married to someone else for only two weeks.

In this book, Ms. Clement captures the rhythm of small town life, complete with elements of sexism, racism and class. But this book is no stuffy morality tale. The words fly off the page, providing the reader with passion, longing and lots of laughter.

Pretty Pleased
Instead of Eudora Welty's "Why I live at the P.O.," it could very well be Alison Clement's "Why I'm Leaving Palmyra." In a running first person dialogue, Palmyra resident, Lucy Fooshee, describes small town life from a very subjective point of view. While Lucy tells the story, her own blatant character flaws are humorously exposed.

As a result, we seem to enjoy loving or hating the vain, self-absorbed Lucy. Our strong reactions indicate that the main character has enough depth to actively engage the reader. By the end of the book, defenders of Lucy Fooshee are pleased to discover there are hints of her maturity on the horizon. Who knows? Perhaps someday Fooshee fans will find out if there's life for Lucy AFTER Palmyra.

This was a great book!
I enjoy Lori Wick's books because they are very enchanting- set in interesting time periods and places. They are easy and interesting to read, and have happy endings. This book is no exception. The story is good, the characters are endearing, and Wick shows how important it is to have a forgiving heart. I highly recommend this book- it is one I will want to read again.

The Best Book
As Time Goes By is my all time favorite by Lori Wick! A master piece, As Time Goes By takes you back to the old fashioned days of the 1800's. Jeff and Bobby are by far the cutest couple. The special realationship they share, and the gentle romance that is weaved thoughout the book is spell binding. The great quality of this book, along with the good plot and best characters, will be a page turner you won't be able to put down!

Sometimes love comes to the most unlikely pairs. . .
which is exactly what happens in "As Time Goes By".
You start the book five years in the past where Bobbie Bradford is cruelly treated and horribly humiliated. The next day she goes for a visit with her aunt, a visit that lasts five years.
Jeff Taylor is worried that history will repeat itself when he finds himself working alongside Bobbie, but Bobbie has come back to town with a new faith in Christ.
While Bobbie has never been considered beautiful, Jeff is finding himself more and more drawn to her every day. He learns that she is considering marrying a man for fear it will be her only offer and he starts to worry, for more than one reason.
Their friendship slowly turns into love, but neither Jeff nor Bobbie seem to realize it until it's too late.
