Jenner's Review
Hank Zipzer lives in Manhattan in 2004 with his friends. Hank Zipzer has go to his cousin's birthday with his friends, Ashley Wong and Frankie Townsend. They go to the party and do a magic act, which was easy. Hank was asked to copy a movie but copied the wrong one! Well, Frankie got mad, but he cooled off. Hank then has a science project. He takes apart the cable box for his science project. Only problem is, his dad watches TV every night. Can Hank solve this little problem? Hank and his friends have enough money, the cable guy is they're installing the cable when his dad comes in. Uh-oh! I would rank the book 10 out of 5, because it is hilarious. I would recommend the book, because every body in the family should enjoy this book.

Lin Oliver and Henry Winkler, You Continue to Delight
The writing duo of Lin Oliver and Henry Winkler again proves successful in this excellent children's book. Whether she is running her organization, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, or writing for children, Lin Oliver continues to delight and amaze. I cannot express how great these books are, and how impressive the tandem of Lin Olver and Henry Winkler continues to be. Good job you two, and keep up the great work.

Niagra Falls or Does It?
I am a fourth grade teacher and I have read all three of the Hank Zipzer books to my class and they absolutely adore all three of them. The characters in the books are very real and the kids can easily relate to the situations they go through. My kids are so eager to finish their work so I can read the next chapters. Thank you Mr. Winkler.

Wonderful Book!
Since I had already spent countless hours on the Internet searching for information on the care of degus, I thought that this book may be a waste of my time. I ordered it anyway (the price was right & afterall it was the first published English book on degus). I was extremely surprised at the amount of information contained in the book. Those who already own degus will not be disappointed, and will be surprised at some of the information (which may be contrary to what some internet sites claim) in it. For those who are new degus owners, or thinking about becoming an owner, I dare say that you should not consider buying such an exotic pet until you have read this book. The book "Degus" references many scientific studies from which some of the information was gathered. This book will certainly improve your understanding of your pets needs, and the quality of care that you provide them. :)

A Complete Degu Book
A Complete Degu Book Degus are among the lesser-known pocket pets, but this little manual will soon change that. One of the marks of a good manual is its comprehensiveness, and this one is concise, easy to use, and packed with information. The complete range of essential knowledge has been brought together by the author, including virtually everything that one needs to know to select, house, feed, breed and identify common problems with this fascinating group of South American rodents. A Health Check Sheet gives Degu lovers an easy table of signs to look for that suggest medical problems, but this manual is really about how to prevent them. The emphasis of this book is on understanding and nurturing your Degu. Since much of caring for unfamiliar pets revolves around knowing what is normal, Dr. Vanderlip has taken particular care to describe, in simple detail, the expected norms, such as how Degus look and act from birth to adulthood, and what they do when they feel good. Veterinarians will find this to be a handy reference for examining and treating Degus, which are growing in popularity as small pets.

This manual is loaded with illustrations on housing, feeding, handling and medical care. A particularly useful section describes all of the typical places in the household that represent hazards to these agile little creatures. The photos and drawings are excellent and show Degus doing what Degus do, which seems to revolve around being cute and fun loving most of the time.

Answering the Call
A thoughtful, *funny* look at service as a spiritual practice! How many authors would write about being "tenderized" after a total meltdown of mind, body and spirit? Or gently remind you to listen for the "call waiting" of service? No pious prose here. But lots of gentle, tender, thoughtful help along your own way-- from recognizing the beep from your higher self to making sure that service stays within healthy boundaries to tips to fight burnout. A great book for anyone exploring commitment or already involved with a cause.

What the World Needs Now
WONDERFUL!! The world needs this now more than ever! Good stuff about boundaries, and levels of service, and how it figures in religious traditions, as well as how to figure out whether the alleged call is of the heart or of the mind.

Reading this has helped me sort out intriguing doubts and questions I've been having about some of the service I've seemed called to lately. I got both clarity and affirmation from this wise guidance that I'll not only use myself, but to help coach clients.

What's more, the material is beautifully organized, and expressed with the delightful, tongue-in-cheek irreverent and eminently readable wisdom that is Gould's trademark as a writer.

Hey! I'm the author...
And there's some stuff I want you to know about me and my book.

First, if you know anything about book publishing, you know that it's like elephant gestation. IOW, it normally takes at least two years before a book *idea* makes it into print. I'm telling you this because I happen to think it is very cosmically weird that I proposed this book *way* before the horrific events of 9/11/01.

This leads neatly to my next point: I'm a sociologist by education and training, which certainly led me to suspect that service would be the Next Big Important Thing after decades of unrelenting "Me" focus. Especially among aging Baby Boomers like moi.

As for identifying service as a spiritual practice, I credit years of traipsing the path to spirit and...well...I explain more in the "Foreword."

I hope you enjoy reading my book and that it inspires you to get involved in--or deepen your existing--service to others.

This is a must read!
This book turned my life around. I first picked it up in 1996 and I have never felt better. I have bought copies for my friends because I feel that it is so important for people who are looking to get out of the cycle of depression. I can't say enough great things about this book.

The book that helped me conquer depression
This book caused me to think differently about depression, my experience of it, and what to do about it. Using the precepts, I was able to pass through chronic depression and move on to living fully again. Whenever I loan the book, it never returns. It's so good that you don't want to let go of it once you have it.

This is a wonderful book about getting "undepressed!"
I have used this book and recommended it to many of my clients, who tend to enjoy it's simplicity, reality and no guff approach to depression. This is a spiritual book, yes, and it is also a very practical one. A must read/must do book.

Principles that work by someone who is living them out!
Pastor Wayne Cordeiro and New Hope Christian Fellowship are living proof that Doing Church as a Team really works. This simple but profound truth has changed the way we are doing church. It is not another book about church growth, or just another book you will read and let sit on the shelf. It is an excellent tool to move your church into teams. Our staff, and church leadership read the book and began to implement it right away. You will enjoy the stories but better yet you will enjoy the principles you can use. I recommend this book.

Doing Church as a Team
Pastor Wayne captures the essence of Ephesians Chapter Four and the heart of effective ministry that is "gift based" and driven by volunteers rather than paid professionals. The key to the book is that God has placed gifts, dreams and abilities in each person and they must be seen as valuable. Release those dreams and passions and with very little motivation these people will serve and become a mobilized force living out their God given passion. This book has helped our local church to become far more successful and have a greater impact on our community. We have grown in numbers and in volunteers here in our California church.
I highly recommend it to you. The leaders New Hope (Wayne's church) is raising up and deploying is amazing.

Why didn't I think of that!
This is an excellent resource for leaders and lay people in churches which are growing or the folks would like it to do so.

Nurture you own beauty
Creativity is the wellspring of our own innate beauty and connection to Creator. Williams gives us simple but powerful tools to nurture, support, and express the Creative Force within each one of us. The nondominant hand work draws out amazing insights into how we can birth our own most powerful Self. Most of all, she gently guides us to create lovely expressions of our Spirit which can utterly transform self-image. Simply the best guide for spiritual self expression available today!

Excellent book
Heather Williams has written an excellent book that guides the artist and nonartist alike into the deeper realms of emotional experience. She offers unique insights into seeing, feeling, and intuiting both our inner and outer worlds. The nondominant hand exercises bring out deep wisdom in a powerful way. I highly recommend this book.

Heal At Home
Heather Williams has written a book for the private person who wants to increase self knowledge in the privacy of their own home, and at their own speed. The sequence of information allows for the reader to browse and do exercises as they are moved. It gives theory blended in with practical suggestions on how to do your own self discovery, one self determined picture at a time. She is sensitive, thorough in her explanations, and offers her own examples so that the reader is reassured that this is a book for everyone, rather than for acclaimed artists. Ms. Williams stresses that everyone has artistic ability and she shows us inroads to discovery of our unique expression of the art within each of us. This book is more than a self-help manual-- it is a self discovery map for the seeker of self knowledge.

Too Much Fun
Phillip Depoy can write as many of these stories as he wants to and I will always be ready for the next one. He writes Southern characters like nobody else - not even Grisham can capture the flavor of the South like Depoy. His books are charming, witty and a pleasure to read and the more I read the stronger the images of Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock form in my mind's eye when I think of Flap and Dally. I'm about done with 123 and ready for 4 Phillip - hope you're writin' it! You readin' these son?

Zen and the Art of the Detective Novel
I read the first of the Flap Tucker series, EASY, and was on Amazon minutes after the last page ordering another in the series, EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE. I really like this good ol' boy with a feng shui brainpan. These are readable, clever mysteries in the style of Lawrence Block. The only problem is...after number 4, you're Tucker'd out. We need more of this great series.

a great one-sitting mystery
This book is a real page-turner. It's the characters that keep me looking for the next Flap Tucker book. You don't need to be a mystery buff to enjoy this series. The writing is elegant and the characters interesting and well-developed.

The crucified God : the cross of Christ as the foundation and criticism of Christian theology
Published in Unknown Binding by SCM Press (1974)
Author: Jürgen Moltmann
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Summary
Theology begins with and is evaluated on the basis of the cross. All thought about God, philosophy, psychology, politics must begin with the cross or be misdirected. It is in the event of the gruesome cross, unpampered and unhidden by flowers that we see the god-forsaken God suffering and dying. In this event the Triune God is defined: not as all powerful pharaoh or caesar apathetic and unable to feel pain (and thus love) but one who emptied Himself and took on our abandonment - a God who is love. In so doing the cross secondly tells us about our solution. The cure for humanity is not in becoming divine but seeing ourselves as who we are: abandoned, godforsaken, thus one with Him who cried out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" As a result to rise with Him to new life and reach the fullness of our humanity. A fullness expressed in liberation from the legalism of the law which penetrates all the dimensions of our life including the pyschological and political. Specifically to bring God's future now beginning in Jesus (the Kingdom expressed as freedom) into our present reality by granting liberty to the oppressed.

Entering into the Passion of This World
Moltmann wrote the Crucified God (1974, English translation) in reaction to certain (specifically N. American) misunderstandings of his earlier work, Theology of Hope (1965). Moltmann's chief concern in The Crucified God was to rescue the hope of the resurrection from any confusion with the officially optimistic culture of modern capitalist society. He does this by reminding his audience that it is only the one who is "unsuccessful" and who suffers with the victims of so-called "success" and "power" that is raised by God at the end. Moltmann's treatment of the cross, therefore, is a plea for Christians to enter into the suffering that God has already entered into, and not remain passive or complacent as outside, "objective" (i.e., apathetic) observers of the human condition. If God does not remain above the plane of history dispassionately observing the suffering of the Son on the cross, but is radically "in Christ," involved in and affected by that suffering (God loses an only child!), then we too (as followers of God) must enter into the suffering of our victims (Holocaust, Third World poverty, etc.). In this respect, the cross becomes the critique ALL utopian dreams (socialist, capitalist, facist alike). Resurrection hope is hope for the hopeless, for the crucified ones of this world.

Moltmann has not only boldly reformulated Luther's "Theology of the Cross," but has, in the process, also made an enduring contribution to Political and Liberation Theology.

A Shared Remembrance
THE CRUCIFIED GOD brings the question of "Who is God in the cross of Christ who is abandonned by God?" to the center of Christian theology in the 21st century. It is a complex exposition of historical interpretations of the Crucifixion and posits an active God who came into the world in man's historical time through the incarnation and continues to dwell with man and his sufferings in our present historical time. For Moltmann man's time is God's time and vice versa. Moltmann sees hope for the concern of mankind turning toward suffering man through a modern understanding of the Crucifixion and Resurrection taken as a reality of our contemporary lives. The communal shared remembrance of the Crucifixion gives way to communal shared hope of the Resurrection in the acknowledgement of personal responsability in the sufferings of mankind. Moltmann is sensitive to the need to recapture the Judaic background of Christianity in modern Christian theology and offers an interesting perspective on this subject.
