A Great Little Book on the Care of Tokay Geckos.
The Herpetocultural Library is a series of small, inexpensive books dedicated to educating the public on the proper care and reproduction of selected reptiles and amphibians in captivity. The series founder is Phillippe de Vosjoli, and he has authored many in the series, and has recruited the services of other distinguished authors who have particular experience with particular animals. This book is an example of his utilization of two knowledgeable gecko enthuisiasts. The book is small, with 60 pages in total, but richly illustrated and full of useful and fascinating information, on selected members of the Gekkonidae, specifically the members of the genus Gekko, Ptychozoon, and Cyrtodactylus that are commonly imported via the pet trade in the USA. Specifically, the tokay gecko, Gekko gecko, is covered in great detail. The authors do a fantastic job in circumlocuting the information on care, feeding, housing, medecine, reproduction, natural history, and even folklore on these fascinating lizards. It is a must for any gecko pet keeper and enthuisiast. These wonderful animals deserve the best care in captivity, and this book gives a step by step guide to achieving this goal.

Literature saves the lives of pet reptiles
All to often, people buy reptiles without the slightest idea regarding how to care for them. That is where books like this one come into the picture. It tells the reader everything needed to properly house and maintain a healthy tokay gecko (or similar spp.), such as; proper size enclosure, how to heat the animal's home, what and how to feed it, and humidity requirments. An added bonus for me is the information provided on the flying geckos, which are my favorite species.

Great book for tokaygecko owners.
Good book for beginners. Loaded with information pics and much more. Good illustrations.

BUY IT :-)

Best self-study book out there
As a teacher of ESL, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Murphy books as a grammar reference. The clear explanations and succint, usable exercises promote understanding and don't bog students down with less-than-useful detail. It works well for self-study and especially for homework exercises. Murphy might also be useful for the beginning teacher of ESL, who often is expected to teach grammar that he/she is unprepared to explain. Overall, the book does exactly what it sets out to do.

In Search of Divine Reality: Science As a Source of Inspiration

Excellent book for the layperson
In addition to its thought-provoking philosophy, "In Search of Divine Reality" is also an excellent introduction to the basics of quantum mechanics. Dr. Schafer explains these usually intimidating concepts in a way that most laypeople will have no difficulty understanding. If you are one of those people who has been scared of the "hard sciences" since high school, this is the book for you. It's bound to get anyone as excited as a kid with a new chemistry set.

Science and Religion have finally been reunited!
In Search of Divine Reality is the best book I've read in a long time. This book will blow your mind. In relatively simple language, Dr. Schafer explains how quantum physics allows for the existence of a "god" or higher being. Since the world does not function according to Newton's Laws at the atomic level, there is no longer any mathematical certainty. As stated in the Heisenburg Principle, it is impossible to know both the time and the place of a given electron in an atom. Dr. Schafer also explains how it appears as though the world functions as a mind, and supports such an audacious claim with a lot of mathematical and scientific evidence. Once you realize that only your mind is real and that all the building blocks of matter and non-material, your world will never be the same.

An inspired argument for a scientifically based spirituality
An excellent and well-written discussion of how quantum physics makes it possible to conceive of a new notion of spirituality that is consistent with available scientific data, yet provides meaning and a moral basis for our lives. The author has a deep understanding of both physics and metaphysics, reserves the technical aspects of his argument for appendices, and provides a multitude of informative references. The book possesses a conciseness and clarity uncommon in literature of this sort, and reflects the author's passion for the subject. A truly worthwhile read.

From Fear to Freedom : Living as Sons and Daughters of God

From Fear to Freedom
HONESTY HONESTY HONESTY. This book is for every Christian. No one is exempt. Evangelical Christians understand we are saved by Grace through Faith alone, but when it comes to sanctification, we are so dishonest about our overwhelming need of God's grace every breathing second of our life. Worse yet, bad teachers & pastors keep pilling on more guilt of the law without a balance of Guilt, Grace & Gratitude.

Are Jack and Rose Marie bucking the heavy emphasis of law in our sanctification that the Reformed tradition advocates? Are the Miller's advocating a Lutheran position of sanctification as getting use to our justification? (More on Lutheran doctrine of Sanctification, read Lutheran Seminary Prof. of Systematics & Author of Christology David Scaer) I believe the Miller's are advocating the proper Biblical position that the body of Christ grows in their faith by being attached as branches to the vine. We are to keep our eyes focused on the Jesus Christ the author and perfector of our faith.

I was blessed by the quote at the beginning of the book by Francis Schaeffer "The present value of the blood of Christ." was proclaimed by Schaeffer when a crisis would present itself. I have reworked this quote after reading this book to say in all trying circumstances: "This situation is another opportunity to see God's faithfulness of Grace and Mercy work in my life." vs. the old defeating attitude, "Here I go again, another trial I can't control".

As a step father of two unsaved adult children 19 & 27, I found great encouragement from the Miller's new confidence in prayer for their daughter Barbara's salvation.

Several years ago, I dropped out of the Miller's Sonship course because I was afraid my mentor was going to abandon me in my orphan state and not raise me out. I have been passionately reading sound Biblical material on the implication of the Fall and how it radically turns me into an orphan fearing the unknown. Both Sonship and this book will be life changing for you like me. Nearly every page has a sentence or paragraph that I have highlighted. "Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever"!

Has this book changed my life? Yes. Why did I give it four vs. five stars like the other reviews?

Rose Marie by her own testimony in Chapter 6 describes a true conversion experience of seeing her sins and the righteousness of Christ. "I was so deeply convicted of my sin against God and awed by his receiving love that I barely made it through lunch that day." "Was this a conversion experience? Many people have asked that question. I am not certain. I had known all the right Christian words. And I prayed and had seen answers to prayer, especially in matters of health, protection, and material provision for our family. (Rose Marie-that is common grace, not regenerating grace-my words) But before Switzerland my working religious outlook does not seem to have generated by grace. Below the surface, mine was a religion of self-control through human will power, and my primary interest was in self-justification, not in Christ's justification." Rose Marie must edit this section before its next printing and say I was not saved. I was trusting in my own righteousness. I could not forgive, and scripture is clear Matthew 6:15 "But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Many details were left out. The story was shortened. I would like to know more about Rose Marie's relationship with her sister, mother and father when they lived in her and Jack's home. How did she handle a home full of people from the congregation that Jack was pastor when she had a mentally ill mother and sister to care for? Was her husband Jack adding additional burden? To my memory, Rose Marie does not share much about what her friends said to her during her struggles before her conversion experience in Switzerland. All her advice seems to come from her husband Jack.

"Why do I have such a hard time trusting God whenever the way before me is unfamiliar?" Read the book and be blessed!

Freedom From Legalistic Christianity
As a Christian who struggled with legalistic Christianity, the Lord used this book to open my eyes up to His saving G R A C E. I realized through this book that I can't do anything on my own and that even Christians try to live the Christian life without Christ. The Lord used this book to help me see that I don't need to live the Christian life by rules, laws, and regulations. Just by His grace. And when I come under His grace, everything else follows.

For every woman
I don't think there is a woman alive who would not be touched by this book. Rose Marie's struggles resonate with most women. We have given this book to many of our friends and they all have been encouraged.

Absorbing
A totally absorbing "atmosphere" book. I literally couldn't put it down --- Its got everything a history, mystery and horror fan could want...Ghosts of Templar Knights, a forbidden bog, a town with a terrible secret, and a curious new clergyman trying to piece it all together in 14th century England. A great "escape" or vacation read.

first class historical mystery AND ghost story
not only is this is avery good historical mytsery, full of insightful and interesting detail, but it is also a rather chilling ghost story.

the writing is succinct and evocative (if not particularly artful). Doherty's prose is very readable, and the characters he draws are very real, especially Philip the Priest, the man at the centre of this spectrely tale.

The plot is great, and it has a couple of really nice twists and unexpected shocks. It moves very quickly, and doesnt get bogged down at all in any unueccessary detail. Every single sentence is germaine to the plot.

If you like authentic-feeling historical mysteries, this is a good book to choose. (Pleasingly, it is now merely one in a series of six similar tales.) And, if you like ghost stories, this is a good choice, especially if you want a nice spin to the story.

Medieval Mayhem and Murder
If you like murder mysteries as well as historical fiction, then you are in for a treat. Mr. Doherty knows the medieval period and uses it to good advantage. This is a takeoff of Chaucer's Canterbury tales where all the members of the party tell a story. This is the Story told by the Priest. It is a tale of treachery, greed and ghosts. This novel was wonderfully done and quite enjoyable.

Habits of the Mind: Intellectual Life As a Christian Calling

Endure the first two chapters -- it gets better.
To my mind, such as it is, Sire's Habits of the Mind begins rather feebly -- the author relates personal experiences of coming of age in a salt-of-the-earth and decidedly "anti-intellectual" home environment. He describes his college-aged self as an "intellectual wannabe". I nearly dismissed the book after the first few paragraphs, but, entirely based on my high opinion of the author's The Universe Next Door, I pressed on. In chapter three, the author finally turns to the themes he presents best and begins to achieve the kind of resonance that characterizes that earlier volume. Opening the tenth (final) chapter, examining the concept of intellectual responsibility, Sire reflects on his "wannabe" confession and offers another: "Being an intellectual is after all . . . nothing to particularly admire or condemn."
This of ideology: "Truth cannot be constructed. To live in ideology is, as [Vaclav] Havel so eloquently reminds us, inevitably to live in a lie. Truth can only be revealed. We cannot be creators, only receptors."
And this of humility: "Without [humility] every virtue begins to become a vice. A passion for truth becomes a certitude that we . . . now possess it. . . Lack of humility -- arrogance -- is, in fact, one of the most frequent charges against intellectuals. Sometimes this charge can not be avoided . . . The real problem, however, is not the charge that you are arrogant but the distinct possibility that you actually are. Self-examination is always in order."
Quoting Richard John Neuhaus: "Few things have contributed so powerfully to the unbelief of the modern and postmodern world as the pretension of Christians to know more than we do. . . If Christians exhibited more intellectual patience, modesty, curiosity, and sense of adventure, there would be fewer atheists in the world, both of the rationalist and postmodern varieties."
Endure the first two chapters -- it gets better. As an examination of intellectual curiosity and intellectual courage, as these may be for some "a Christian calling", this is a very good, if not quite great, volume. In fact there are many 'quotables' here that may remind the reader of Pascal's Pensees. A minor flaw: the volume (2000) contains a few more 'typos' than most books. Perhaps a dozen or so where one might typically expect 2 or 3. Particularly noticeable given that the author is a long-time editor. But the thought here is less flawed than the proofing; for many books it is the opposite. The consideration of "reading directed thinking" versus "thinking directed reading" is quite valuable.
This of the theistic view of knowledge: "Our knowledge of God, our theology, is itself a boon to our knowledge of the universe. . . In other words, because God is the all-knowing knower of all things, we -- being made in His image -- can be the sometimes knowing knowers of somethings. . . All this is a gift of God, a 'supernatural charity'. . . it is not the 'autonomy of the human intellect,' our own or that of anyone else."
Recommended reading although not for all readers.

Habit Forming Reading
Of all "Christian World View" books published in the last twenty years, this reigns supreme. Though certainly never intended to be practical or prescriptive, Sire provides the greatest service to 'Intellectual Wannabes' by discussing exactly what it means to be a Christian intellectual. His own history provides an able model for aspiring thinkers. However, the real inspiration lies in holding up Jesus as the ultimate thinker. Jesus' incontrovertible logic is emphasized. Jesus' mind and wit bolsters our own courage to stand up for His truth in a world flailing for standards of verity. Via his discussion of wholistic disciplines, Sire encourages engaging and stretching the mind inside a wider integration of being (mind, body, soul, and spirit). He spurs us on to acquire holiness and to live the truth beyond mere mental ascent. Sire encourages us to develop the intellectual habits necessary to go forth and live truth.

Excellent treatment of a neglected topic. Read and grow.
Few contemporary evangelical writers have so profitably and profoundly explored the meaning and implications of the Christian worldview and mind as James Sire. Now his wise, well-informed, and witty book puts us even further in his debt. The chapter, "Jesus, the Reasoner," is worth the price of the book. It demonstrates that Jesus prized and exemplified the life of the mind.

Be sure to read Dr. Sire's other books on related themes: "The Universe Next Door, 3rd ed.," "Why Should Anyone Believe Anything at All?," and "Discipleship of the Mind."

my life as a reindeer road kill
This is a book about a boy named wally who need to get a gift to
God for his birthday because an angel told him to do this.Wally
goes shopping and buys a lot of things.some of the things he buys are sandals, a tv,a saw, and other electronics. he uses his frend wall street's money to buy these things.wall street tells wally that god wonts him to do good deeds because the stuff is still in the driveway.so he does good deeds for God's birthday isstead. i like this book because Wally is funny and uncoordinated. He says funny things too. I'veread alot of other books in this series. They were fuuny too.

Incredibly funny Christian book
This book was great. Almost every page has something funny on it. Wally is quite a clutz (president of Dork-Oids anonymous) who seems to be looking for trouble everywhere he goes. He doesn't stop, either, until he is really wound up in the problem and God helps him fix it. Each book in this series teaches a different Christian priciple accompanied by hilarious sarcastic remarks, the adventures of a bumbling clutz, and Wally's creative superhero stories. If you're looking for an action-packed, funny Christian book for kids 7-12, you've come the right place. In this particular book, he learns about giving gifts to Jesus.

these are the best reading books ever.
