A real confidence builder!
The quilt that sold me on this book is the Attic Windows pattern. It is fabulous and easy. The great thing about the patterns in Quilts for Baby Easy as ABC, is that you don't have to make a quilt for a baby-make a quilt for anyone. Make a quilt as big or small as want. It is the most fun book on quilting and Ursula Reikes makes it effortless.

Beginners and Inspirational
This book triumphs in providing excellent patterns that are stimulating for the beginning quilter. The uniqueness of this book is that it demonstrates how to incorporate children's topic fabrics into traditional blocks. Its marrying the traditional patterns of quilting while including the new colors and fabrics available today.
The directions are clearly written with illustration that anyone walking off the street could successfully accomplish making a baby quilt that will be very pleasing.
I have used this book as the primer for teaching a class of first time grandmothers new to sewing to each make a quilt for their grandchild in a weekend. It would be a lovely gift from a pregnant daughter to her own mother.
What person wouldn't love to find a baby quilt that their grandmother made just for them?

Great for beginners and fast.
I've been quilting blocks from kits (pre-cut pieces) and having fun. I was nervous starting a quilt on my own. These patterns are fun and only look difficult. The "Windows in the Attic" is my favorite. I can complete a quilt top from this book in about 6 hours (cutting and piecing) and look forward to the quilting. Great for beginners or anyone who wants professional results quickly. Low stress - just follow the directions. Great for your collection.

Star Song Oracle: The Original Lemurian Amulets As Revealed to Delfina Rose
Published in Hardcover by Hampton Roads Pub Co (December, 1997)
Authors: Delphina Rose and Delfina Rose
Amazon base price: $29.95
In the background to these divinatory amulets, Rose presents an interesting view of humanity's origins, not as evolved apes, but as multidimensional beings from the stars who chose to don the mantle of flesh and polarity, becoming the male and female creatures we are today. While we have nearly forgotten this ancient time, the Star Song amulets are a catalyst to awaken those memories. Strongly reminiscent of Native American images, the amulets are simultaneously simple and complex to use for divination, as there are no set interpretations of the symbols to memorize. The latitude such open interpretation allows means that the user is much more dependent on intuition, and as a result, the Star Song Oracle has a vast potential for developing the spirit as well as imparting information about the future or the past. --Brian Patterson

THANK YOU! THIS IS GREAT!
I just got this book and I can tell you that there is no other book out there quite like Star Song Oracle! No stuffy language, no "buzz" words, no fluffing out the text ~ just REAL, easy to follow and remember guidance. I felt like Delfina Rose was just sitting right there with me over a cup of tea and sharing ancient pathways of the heart. No "7 steps to enlightenment" type of writing here, no need to attend follow-up expensive seminars, no channeling of a million year old entity, and NO hint of "I'm special and you can be too if you follow this teaching"... just a plain, clear signpost pointing the way back to what we all seek to reclaim ~ our own Divinity. Only someone who knows of their own Divinity could so clearly show us ours in such a simple and unassuming fashion! Obviously the author has no need to spend needless time on qualifing her own "authenticity", she just jumps right to the heart of the matter and helps us see our very own special-ness and our unadulterated powerful and loving authentic nature. I use the amulets every day for meditation and for special times when I want a divination tool to help me tune into a deeper wisdom within. That is what Delfina Rose shows us how to do ~ to go Within, easily, simply, without muss and fuss, without hyperbole, with clear vision. I can see how this is a timeless tool that I will use over and over and never grow tired of its amazing simple inspiration. I wish I could give more than 5 stars (sounds like American Idol LOL). Where are you Delfina Rose and will you write some more? THANK YOU! THIS IS GREAT!

Mystical transformation, amazing affirmation
I just read the Star Song Oracle in one sitting. On the edge of my seat, as if reading a good mystery novel, I was entranced and transported to ancient lives of sheer magic. I suggest anyone buying this amazing divination tool to first read the book from cover to cover. There is in this ancient scroll of wisdom an embedded story of Remembrance that will awaken the reader to deep spiritual depths within themselves. I have never read a "divination" book like this before. To simply call this a divination tool is to diminish its full impact. It is so much more! The words swirl together in such a magical way and slip loose the bonds of this physical realm to reveal the extraordinary multi-dimensional realms that we live in all the time, but often are not aware of. Rarely have I run across a work of such (seemingly) simplicity that is so full of power and magic. You may be transported to mystical worlds of transformation as I was. Even if you don't normally use "divination tools" you will find this book to be invaluable as a spiritual awakener. Some of the symbols are ones I have been drawn to for most of my life but did not know why. After reading her book and then re-reading the chapters on those symbols, the amazing affirmation came through - that I really am part of a vast family of eternal souls. These symbols live within us all says Ms. Rose. Star Song Oracle certainly made that clear and helped me understand the depth of my own ability to Remember my beautiful, mystical nature, and that of others as well. Now, when is Ms. Rose going to write more!

Finally, a POSITIVE way to tap our Higher Intuition
I received this icredible book as a gift and have since used it as a mainstay in my counseling practice. Yes, my clients (and myself) benefit greatly from the unpretentious and inspiring wisdom found in Star Song Oracle. So often these days, we have a hard time truly "tuning in" to our own inner, higher, better wisdom. With the help offered by Delfina Rose and her powerful yet loving words of comfort and hope, we can now use this book to find that still small voice inside which leads us always back to our own Truth. Delfina obviously (and rightly) believes that with loving support, warm encouragement, remarkably and refreshingly challenging words (tempered with love)that we might indeed re-develop our flacid muscles of inner wisdom and learn once again to fly straight to the heart of a matter - guided by an ancient yet new place of Higher Intuition from WITHIN. I especially am touched by the teaching that this place Within has been and always will be forever connected to all Life. This book offers a simple path to healing, to reclaiming oneself and others, and to remembering who we are and WHY we are. Bravo Ms. Rose for your courage to insist we rediscover a POSITIVE place inside where our Truth, while temporarily forgotten, still lives and begs to be heard once again.

The Woman Who Spilled Words All over Herself: Writing and Living the Zona Rosa Way
Published in Hardcover by Faber & Faber (April, 1997)
Author: Rosemary Daniell
Amazon base price: $24.95
Used price: $4.45
Collectible price: $15.00
Buy one from zShops for: $3.99
For Rosemary Daniell, writing is an obsession, a turn-on, a healing process, and a vision quest. A highly sexed, somewhat New Age-y Southerner with what she would call a "healthy arrogance," Daniell hadn't heard of T. S. Eliot until she was 23 years old. In The Woman Who Spilled Words All over Herself, we learn about Daniell's evolution as a writer, her experiences teaching writing in schools and prisons, her practical and inspirational advice for writers, and the writing workshops for women (and a few men) that she has been running out of her home for more than 15 years. These writing groups are what families should be: communities that value honesty, support, stimulation, and fattening foods. Most useful here, in addition to learning the indispensability of a good writing support group, are the writing exercises, or "exorcises," at the back of the book. There's also a collection of rich Southern recipes just right for beckoning the muse.

This could have saved me years of stumbling in the dark
I was a little skeptical about a new-age-y writing book--another writer urging us wannabes to spill words. But Rosemary Daniell won me over. First of all, she's really practicing what she preaches--and not for the money. The first chapter, from which the title was taken, describes her experiences teaching writing in schools and prisons. It's the intersection of her greatest love and the greatest need--and both admirable and daring. I've had the pleasure of using her discussion starters with children ages 5-8 and it works!

In her chapter on self-sabotage I recognized people I know as well as myself. I will pull this chapter out on occasion to remind myself what NOT to do.

I was most taken, though, with the "Further Notes" chapter. In it she described things I've had to learn the hard way myself. (She calls it demystification--thank you, Rosemary, I wish I'd met you years ago.) For example, how to paraphrase everything first. I'm halfway finished with an MFA and have studied writing with many famous writers. NO ONE has ever mentioned this before. But it works.

There are also many provocative female ideas embedded in this book, like the use of irony in good women's fiction. I'd like to sit in on that discussion. This is a book I will buy and keep and read when I need to hear the voice of someone experienced and wise.

Live through the Power of Words
Rosemary Daniell is a woman who has listened intently and found her passion and her voice. She shares both in this book so that others may know what the experience is like.

My favorite part is where she is working with students and the class is working on the poem "Eggs" and students ponder what is it really like to sit in a bathtub of eggs. The words are so strong they don't just invite visualization, they demand it.

Having sat in on a Zona Rosa meeting, I can say that working with Rosemary Daniell is just as electrifying.

Delightful -- especially for the memoirs
This book is more memoir than "beginner writer" exercise book (though there are some exercises), but this is precisely why I liked it. And, of course, the "read-like-a-novel" style of writing sets it apart from ordinary "how to write" books.

Like another reviewer, I wish Rosemary and her Zona Rosa group were in my town!! Failing that, though, this book is a keeper!

Brilliant!
My Mother-in-law passed away in February 2002. I really did not know where to turn. God seemed so far away. My husband and I decided to join a griefshare group, and Kay Arthur forms part of the videos, sharing her own experiences through her tough times. This book was on the "suggested read" list for griefshare. Although our group did not have this book on the shelf, I decided to go and buy it. (there were many to chose from, but because I am a Precept-upon-precept leader and student (try and find a study goin in your area - it will change you life forever). Well, i never looked back, I just could not put the book down, it helped me through those very dark tunnels, it guided me into seeing that my dissapointment could very well be God's appointments. The book has gone through my ladies book club as well as some of the students within my class. What makes this book brilliant is that God uses it to help us in our deepest pain and this I know because of all of the people that have borrowed my copy and read it - they have gone out to buy their own copy and some have even bought it as a gift for someone who needs encouragement and hope! I thank God for this book!

Facing Trials upon Trials - Read This
Kay sent me this book while I was going through one situation after another. It has totally uplifted me and changed my outlook on the things that keep happening to me. I am able to look as every disappointment as God's appointments. I am able to restore my confidence in God and trust Him because I know He has the whole picture where I can only see part of it.
I never succeeded in reading straight through this book on a daily basis as a Bible study. It seemed God had me read only what I needed on day's I needed but it sure was annointed by the Holy Spirit. I think every person needs this book

Kay Arthur At It Again!
Kay Arthur is a tremendous teacher and this book is even better than her others. The thing I like most about her books is her ability to guide us through the Word without telling us how to believe. I have read the beginning of this book over and over. The part about the potter is so descriptive and real that it had an enormous impact on me. I would highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing difficulty in their life. You will want to read it again and again.

AN INSPIRATIONAL BOOK FOR THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNER
"Big Vision Small Business" is a wonderfully written book. The personal
experience of the author and the numerous interviews with small-business
owners gives hope to those wish to "Have It All". Her insights and tips will show you that by using the "Four keys to success and satisfaction" you can achieve balance between your life and your business.
This is not only great, inspirational reading, it's a wonderful reference
book for anyone running or thinking about starting a small business. I
give this 5 stars !

A REFRESHING AND MUCH NEEDED PERSPECTIVE
"Big Vision, Small Business" offers a refreshing and much needed perspective. So much of the focus on business is simply about getting bigger and making more money. Thus, quality of life issues such as personal values, needs and desires become secondary considerations. Jamie Walters provides valuable insights about this issue and gives practical examples and ideas on how to grow a business in a way that is right for you. As a small business owner, Big Vision not only helped to validate my experience, but to also celebrate it.

worth writin' home about!!
A friend recommended this very highly, saying "It's so good to read about a success that didn't sell out." I'm not into self-help books, which I mistakenly thought this was, so put it aside for a bit. Once I started to leaf through it, I was hooked. It's very readable, in a personable style, and includes many interviews with small business owners who stayed true to their dream of, well, just that: a small business that you love and can be a success at without going crazy. It's more a philosophy discussion than a self-help book; altho I'd think it would be a huge help to anyone considering starting a business. Good stuff, and highly recommended!!

Endlessly Fascinating
Even if you're not going to be travelling in remote places, this book is wonderful. Jane Wilson-Howarth's no nonsense (and funny) tone makes this book an excellent read, even if it's just for the vicarious thrill of knowing which parasites you might encounter.

If you want prosperity, prepare for paucity...
I was a student of Col. Allard at Gerogetown University. In his class, Technology and National Security, one of his most important lessons was the continuing way in which the offense is guaranteed to adapt to whatever defense you can mount. And vice versa... In his new book, Col. Allard takes such lessons, accumulated by milennia of warfare, and applies them to the modern business world. I recommend this book for anyone truly interested in implementing effective leadership and strategy in their organization.

A Badly Neglected Subject
Given the large number of business books it's surprising that so few have drawn out the similarities between business and war. Col. Allard's Business As War does an especially good job of making the comparison, and of noting the differences. It will be important for business readers especially because it focuses on the essential constants of war and business.

Paul Bracken
Professor of Management
Yale School of Management

Great to read. Great ideas
It is so very refreshing to read a book that takes a critical look not only at business practices, but at business schools and business literature as well. Allard's basic thesis is that
character and systems matter. He rightly criticizes business schools for failing to instill values and ethics into its graduates. He also criticizes business books for easy, flashy solutions to what are really complex problems. Integrated systems, strategy, intelligence and ethical and moral leadership are what matters in Allard's universe. It is also a very well written (and entertaining) book. Read it if you are in business. Read it if you just want to understand how business should operate.

You Have to Read This Book!
There are 3 kinds of people who must read this book:
1. Therapists who are looking to add professional coaching to their list of services or who are making a transition away from traditional therapy into life coaching.
2. Professional Coaches who specialize or want to specialize in life coaching.
3. Established Life Coaches.

There is something for everyone in this book, but particularly for these 3 groups of people there is NO BETTER BOOK AVAILABLE to help you make this transition in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

Pat Williams is one of America's Top Professional Coaches. In addition to his nationally recognized coach training program (lifecoachtraining.com), he is also on the board of the International Coach Federation (coachfederation.org), one of the top speakers in the field, and on the cutting-edge of standardizing and professionalizing the field of coaching.

I can't recommend this book high enough. I firmly believe this book should be on the bookshelf of every professional life coach.

You Don't Have to be a Therapist to Benefit from this Book.
This book goes far beyond helping therapists transition into life coaching. It gives the reader a very clear and exciting introduction to this new and upcoming field. It was my first real introduction to coaching, yet after training in the field and went back and read it again and got even more out of it.
The book explains the difference between coaching and therapy, and also helps the reader decide which is best for her/him. Exercises are provided to help the reader's decision making. The way the book is put together the authors quite effectively coach the reader toward the possibilities and the joys of coaching. They also spend a good number of pages on how to start a coaching business. I loved it. As an aspiring life-coach I say "thank you."

Therapist as Life Coach
This is an excellent book for those of us who have been practicing therapists and have a desire to do what we actually intended when we chose this profession in the first place. The book is well written. It provides a comprehensive discussion of the differences between coaching and psychotherapy or counseling. After defining what this new and exciting field is all about, the authors have given us newcomers to the field a wonderful manual to assist us in establishing a coaching practice. You couldn't really ask for more... unless you want even more of a headstart; you might enroll in Pat's Life Coach Training course, a 30 hour course which supplements the book. A complimentary introductory session is available by going to the Institute web site,...Life coaching is a natural evolution from traditional therapy practices. Moving into this field has transformed my life. Thank you Pat and Deborah!

A philosophical work that is not so deep
This book starts out by showing reader a technique of removing philosophical sunglass a typical person usually have when they look at objects. Then it wanders to signify it by relating it to something big, difficult to understand/not clearly stated, and appeal to feeling.
For example, 1. Trying to make mysterious, something that is quoted here and there from Eastern philosophies, some of philosophers quoted are not even related to zen philosophy,
2. Using Pope, Archbishop, big religious figures,
3. Describe nonerotic aspects of drawing nudity
This book is filled with many interesting sketches, pretty easy to read, is educational if you have never thought about aspects of seeing.
I would recommend this book to people who focus too narrowly in their professions.

artist mode of seeing
This book is about developing the artist mode of seeing. By drawing what you see you will see better and then be able to draw it better which will allow you to absorb the whole of nature by paying attention to its small details too. The book is an eye opener- Author- Creative Painting For The Young Artist

Don't ever let it go.
Where has this book been? I started drawing and painting a few years back and have bought lots of books, but none like this! I don't think of myself as a Zen person or a mystic, but this book really speaks to me. The drawings are beautiful, but go beyond a superficial beauty. Even if one is not interested in drawing, there is lots in this book to recommend it. It is not just a book about seeing and drawing, it is a book about truly living.
