The downloaders will be pleased with documentation of Orac, Oddis, Karma, Oracletool, GNOME-DB, and other ready-to-run administration and design tools. The book explains what each tool does, where it comes from, how to install it, and how to use it (complete with hallmark O'Reilly options lists in most cases). The programmer set, eager to contribute to the collection of open-source Oracle tools, will learn a lot from documentation of Oracle-specific libraries for various languages, including Oratcl for Tcl/Tk, several Perl modules, DCOracle for Python, and the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) classes for Java. Some programmers may find the introductory sections too general in focus, but they'll be pleased by sections that explain the use of specific methods and functions. --David Wall
Topics covered: The collection of libraries that have come into existence to facilitate interaction with Oracle databases from within home-grown software, as well as programs that others have written to take advantage of those libraries.

One for the designer's bookshelfTheory is gently introduced and practical examples given. Especially valuable are the circuit layout techniques given. They are obviously the result of TI's hard-won experience.
You could use this as an introductory text for formal learning or self education, or just have it to hand as a reference.
To fully make use of this book you should have a grounding in circuit theory and solid state design equivalent to a first or second year university or TAFE student. The self-educated could make use of it, provided they have not skipped matrix algebra or complex numbers.
Chapter headings include
Development of the ideal op amp equations
-inverting and non-inverting, adders, differential amps, complex feedback, video amps. A comprehensive coverage of the theory.
Single supply op am p design techniques
-circuit analysis and simultaneous equations. You really need to go back to a good text of matrix algebra and follow up on this.
Feedback and stability theory.
-a good introduction, but you need to read, say, Sedra & Smith after this.
Instrumentation: Sensors to A/D convertors
-transducer types, design procedures, ADC issues. Excellent introduction.
Wireless communication: signal conditioning for If sampling
-restricted to GSM and W-CDMA mobile/cellular phones. Some can be applied to digital radio, but there is better elsewhere for other wireless applications.
Interfacing D/A converters and loads
-load characteristics, D/A converters, error budgets. Good treatment of design issues which are often hard to find information on.
Sine wave oscillators
-comprehensive treatment of phase shift and quadrature oscillators at baseband.
Active filter design techniques.
-low pass, high pass, band pass, band reject, all-pass. Comprehensive coverage, but you should then go on to Chen or other standards for more detail.
Circuit board layout techniques
-excellent treatment. There is a lot to be learned here!
Designing low-voltage op amp circuits.
-good practical hints and tips.
There are also forty well-chosen practical circuits including a number of analogue computer circuits (that neglected topic) that have modern, non-computing uses.
Good book on op-amps

Very good - for what it is meant forOf course, due to the nature (i.e. the form) of the book no one subject is treated very extensively. This means it is good only to get an overview over horsemanship related topics - but at this it is REALLY good!

Great book on winning in business and life (and racing)! The advice given, although not earth-shattering, is both true and effective. For example, he talks about the desire to succeed and how this is a necessary "fuel" for winning. Many other self-development authors speak about this much as well. It is not anything new. However, He gives vivid examples from his racing career and from other anecdotes of friends and acquaintances. These examples are well-chosen because they are inspiring.
This is similar to other sections of his book. Bobby Unser seems to be very principle oriented as well as a man of integrity. He talk about instances where he could have turned his back on a commitment for monetary gain or to get on a better racing team (he made it seem like it was a somewhat common occurance in auto racing), but he stayed true to his commitment and it ended benefiting him in the end. This is refreshing considering some of the stereotypes of big business today where the search for a dollar seems to be the guiding principle sometimes.
I highly recommend this book. Even though it has a lot of auto racing stories, Unser tells them in a way that non-fans would really enjoy them and get motivation from their example.
Desire fuels the fire...Bobby's translation of what it takes to move from leading a race into the winner's circle to leading in business is an analogy well made in this book, particularly for all racing fans who find themselves wanting to gain a winning edge in life.
Paul Pease parlays Bobby Unser's winning focus in driving to be first for the checkered flag into a shared vision for his readers of what it takes to succeed in business. Bobby's lessons learned on the track and in between race days made him a part of one of America's most winning race families in a sport that has literally killed many who took on its challenges.
Bobby's experience in the business of racing and in the business of business in his twenty years of retirement, make him an excellent teacher of valuable lessons for the lay reader. The examples of lessons learned from his years of racing provide an entertaining and enlightening background for the reader to gain perspective on each message Bobby has to offer.
Bobby is clearly a monumental character both on the track and off. Being a willing teacher of what it takes to make a difference in business as in life makes this book very satisfying to the finish.
Unser takes the checkered flag, again!
When I first spied "Oracle and Open Source" by Andy Duncan and Sean Hull, I was so intrigued that I had to buy it. I couldn't believe that there was enough out there to write a book on. How wrong I was.
The two authors have done an excellent job of collecting information on:
* Programming environments, tools, languages (Python, Perl, Tcl, Tk)
* Database maintenance tools - including Orac, Oddis (Tk);
* Web-based monitoring tools for Oracle (such as Karma, Oracletool) and the network too (Big Brother)
* Plus Open Source Java apps (even the Java isn't open source itself), Gnome/GTK+ and more.
The book's aim is to introduce you to the rich range of technologies rather than being the definitive reference. It provides enough to get the tools installed and to set you on your way. And once you're up and running, the authors list the web pages and books that will take you to the next level. I never knew so much was available, but with the groundswell of support from the Open Source community as evidenced on the Internet and in this excellent book, I'm learning fast.
