My Favourite Tarot Deck.
This deck has given me the most accurat readings, given serious lessons in a gentle, yet powerful way. It's always right on the mark.I like it better than any of my other Tarot decks(I have 20).
This is not a cutsey deck, but it is warm and friendly, and very lovely.I recommend it with all my heart to new and experienced readers alike. The book is informative, and fun to read.

Fresh Perspective on Tarot
The Fey Tarot distills the best of both worlds in tarot and the art of Japanese anime, recombining them into something new and exciting. This deck is wonderful for both the young at heart and in age. The tarot presented here is lighthearted and kind, "bringing no shadows." However this lightness does not eliminate the darkness of traditional decks; instead, The Fey Tarot twists and subdues the negative card meanings inwards. In doing so, this set becomes easily accessible and understood by children.

"The Fey Tarot is a deck full of life," Minetti writes. There cannot be anything closer to the truth. The bold colors of the cards contrast with the simplicity of the design, creating a uniquely majickal and deftly detailed series of story-cards. Each whole card is alive; from the attention paid to the expression in each creature's eyes to the way the fey's world blends naturally into the card. Using a combination of unique and bold color palettes, Aghem brings the center focus of each card straight into the emotions the cards evoke. Every creature's face, every part of their actions, contains realistic emotions. Each card becomes a theater for the mind's eye; where the fey perform on center stage teaching their lessions and showing their perspectives and views of the world and the meaning of life. The cards beg to be played with and explored.

The book is also a masterpiece. At 156 pages long, it delves deeper into the concepts and ideas that made this deck possible. It begins with the core foundations and beliefs of the artwork, goes straight into designer Aghem's mind showing how she developed the cards' sketches and emotions. Then it introduces tarot and how the fey and tarot match one another perfectly. Lastly, the cards themselves are described in detail. Minetti adding layer upon layer of insight and meaning into the simple but intricate artwork. The book ends by showing 4 unique spreads to user the cards with, from simple 3 card on up to complex 8 card designs.

The Fey Tarot is a great addition to tarot enthusiasts' collections. This is the product of Minetti and Aghem's first collaboration (hopefully not their last!). This deck marks a new perspective on deck design fopr the new millennium. It also moves away from traditional meanings of the cards giving them a fresh and playful twist. I would also recommend this deck as a great way to introduce young children to the modern world of the tarot, as it presents a very accessible and non-threatening view of it and the concepts tarot contains.

A Respectful Look at Lew Wasserman
Cinema fans of a certain age will no doubt recall the grand films of the 1940s and 1950s with a wry thought of "They don't make them like that anymore." The current boffo box office consists of pyrotechnical sequels starring beefcake (and cheesecake) performers, not matinee idols like Peck, Hepburn, Bogart and Lancaster.

But in the old days . . .

Connie Bruck, a veteran writer for The New Yorker, has compiled this fulsome biography of Lew Wasserman, one of the most powerful movers and shakers of an era when movies were virtually the only form of popular entertainment. The power wielded by Wasserman and his contemporaries could mean the difference between professional (and sometimes personal) life and death. (Bruck often discusses the Hollywood "gang" in terms of organized crime. Indeed, there was a great deal of dubious dealings with labor unions, often considered under the concern of the gangster trade.)

Wasserman was the type of leader who drew a mixture of respect and fear. He was "an entertainment mogul without peer," according to one admirer. To another, "he had an aura. He was my god." And like many such men, "his explosive tirades were legend."

Most of the book concerns the wheelings and dealings of the industry. For such a potentially juicy subject, Bruck dishes very little dirt/gossip. Instead she seems more concerned with the financial aspects, which readers will either find fascinating or tedious. There is often too much background that detracts from the overall sense of entertainment a book like this would seem to merit. In fact, Wasserman isn't even mentioned until well into the first chapter. Even the title is a bit hard to get through.

Another concern is that the author can't quite decide the direction of her book. The depth of research indicates a scholarly tome, but the voice seems more "popular" in nature.

Taken as a whole, however, Bruck offers a respectful look at Wasserman and a homage to the system when, to paraphrase a popular expression of today's younger crowd, "Hollywood ruled."

When Hollywood was King!
When Hollywood was King and MCA ruled through aggressive, imaginative, creative, dirty, underhanded, political ways. This is not my favorite Hollywood book as I found "Showman, the life of David O. Selznick" by David Thomson and Peter Biskind's "easy Riders, Raging Bulls" far more entertaining. But Connie Bruck's book is more epic, covering as it does the business careers of Jules Stein and Lew Wassermann from the 1920s into the 21st Century in addition to telling the history of their company MCA and the industry they "ruled". Note I reference business careers because these individuals did not seem to have a personal life that did not revolve around business. There is not much surprising celebrity scandal that unfolds, except some strong hints that Ronald Reagan was a charming empty suit who received many sweetheart deals from the industry and he gave back in return. In some ways the Wasserman life story told here is one of the rise and fall, the young mans glory being used by younger students against him. And even though MCA associated with the mob and the mob with them Wasserman gave heavily to his industry and charity. A book for anyone interested in the history of Hollywood as a business in the 20th century.
An epic work that I highly recommend.

A Larger Than Life Horatio Alger
When Lew Wasserman was growing up in his native Cleveland the Horatio Alger books were popular. They traced the rise of often penniless young men to the high pinnacles of economic and social power. I do not know if Wasserman read any of these stories in his boyhood, but he certainly ended up living them.

Beginning as a theater usher and later becoming a musician, Wasserman hooked up with Jules Styne and began booking musical acts. The dynamic duo recognized that the swing era of bands, which was their bailiwick, would have a limited life span. The Music Corporation of America then expanded into the world of motion pictures, retaining the name of an organization that sounds like and began as a company rooted in the movie field. One of Wasserman's clients in the late thirties was a young actor under contract to Warner Brothers by the name of Ronald Reagan. He would later be in a major position to assist Wasserman and MCA both as president of the Screen Actors Guild and beyond that as U.S. President. Reagan would always remain a bit miffed, however, that Wasserman, who developed solid relationships with presidents Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton, would retain his reputation as a loyal Democrat and hence supported Reagan's opponents. The firm was crafty, however, in keeping a foot in each camp, with Jules Styne and Taft Schreiber supporting Republicans assiduously. This factor helped when Reagan and Richard Nixon were in office.

Connie Bruck has provided an impressive body of research, including numerous interviews with the late Wasserman as well as those who worked with him and knew him well. Her industry pays off in the form of a fascinating study of a man who rose meteorically through the agent's ranks to become the supreme giant of the motion picture industry, the man others feared and envied, often at the same time.

Clash of the Titans: How the Unbridled Ambition of Ted Turner & Rupert Murdoch Has Created Global Empires That Control What We Read Amd Watch

What do Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoch want out of life? Apart from the usual pleasures--love, fortune, good health--they apparently want to control the world's media. And, to judge by this account, each wants the other's head on a platter.

"In another time, they might have dueled on a grassy plain with muskets, or faced each other at high noon at opposite ends of a dusty street, holsters slung low on their hips," writes media/entertainment pundit Hack. Turner and Murdoch have chosen to fight it out, with undisguised venom, in a singularly public venue--Turner through CNN and other networks, Murdoch through Sky and Fox TV, plus a host of magazines and newspapers. Turner espouses liberal views while Murdoch is a hard-line conservative, but both are supreme "controllers of information" and "manipulators of public opinion," according to Hack. Their fight has cost billions of dollars, and it's wounded more than a few bystanders. It has also, as Hack rightly notes, set the tone for the contemporary press, for the worse, sacrificing journalistic integrity in the interest of two "competing political agendas ... until there is one."

Balanced, for the most part, if only because Hack seems to have little affection for either of his subjects, Clash of the Titans is a readable account of a private war between prideful tycoons with long memories. Media buffs will find much of interest in this portrait of "colliding storm fronts," both of whose reach extends far and wide. --Gregory McNamee

Shallow, but satisfying
Rupert vs. Ted! Ted vs. Rupert! Great, easy to read narrative of the most modern media battle. If you want to know about the ideology and shenanigans behind Mr. Fair & BalancedTM, this is the book.

"Risky Business"
"Clash of the Titans," by entertaining writer Richard Hack is a very impressive read. A lot of reasearch went into the creation of this 'Must Read' 544 page book. Hack gives the reader a look inside the media world of business as well a look inside the personal and professional lives of Ted Turner and Keith Rupert Murdoch. Risk taking, careful planning, and gutsy determination is what it takes to become like these two media moguls...men of position, power, and fame. So now that you know how to do it get out there and go conquer the world! I plan to, smile...

What a joke!
For the more savvy individual with a little expirience:
I felt like I had been taken by one of those "Ronco-Matic" 30 second infomercials. This spiral bound piece of literature (and I use that term lightly.) is a total waste of time and money. Every thing in this 54 page [...] leads up to a sales pitch to get your email address and more useless [...]. (Inside back cover.) Don't waste your money or your time.. you could better spend it online doing your own homework.

For the Novice:
To be fair though, being a savvy surfer, and somewhat familiar with the industry, I can say for a total novice.. well.. it's a start, but a weak one at that!

hmmmm
well, i was hoping for some REAL information on the subject. i would think that anyone who buys this book would already know most of the stuff inside... i sure did so it didnt help me at all. maybe the millions of pages with links will be useful to me.
the 10 step recap for the book is to create a company (no duh), get a business license, get a po box, get a business bank account, get a merchant account, get an internet merchant account, find a company to host your domain, buy a domain, create a website, and then stock your website with content!! hmmm! thanks, bro, i didnt already know that!!!!
this book will be helpful to the person who has never used the internet, never built a webpage, and just heard from someone who heard from someone else that you can make TONS of money if your husband takes naked pictures of you in the kitchen.

Not very good
This is a 36-page spiral bound booklet with 8 pages of links. I was hoping this would be a how to start an adult site book but it really isn't. The only people who might find this booklet a little useful are those who don't have any experience with the Internet. Most of the information here could easily be found on [the internet]... The areas it addresses are just vague common sense information. For example it refers you to your state's "department of incorporation" on how to form a company. I've checked a few of the links on their resources guide and I guess that's a little helpful but again doing a search on [the internet] for Adult web hosting or adult content would have generated the same links ... If you want a typed out link page I guess you would like this but for me it's not worth the [money], I paid for this booklet. Save your money do your own search.

Not merely one of the "other chipmakers," Advanced Micro Devices has become a real player in the battle to define personal desktop computing power. The company's AMD-K6 3D central processing unit, compatible with x86 machine language and the Multimedia Extensions (MMX) instruction set, appears to compete favorably with Intel's Pentium II flagship. The AMD-K6 3D Processor provides page upon page of deeply technical details about the AMD-K6 3D chip, providing a valuable resource for motherboard designers, compiler makers, serious hardware hobbyists, and others interested in the workings of this central processing unit.

And it is deeply technical. Not only does this book contain lots of schematics that explain how the chip goes about decoding instructions, but it contains lots of prose, too. But the internal architecture is only a small part of the book. The chip's pinouts get tons of detailed coverage--you'll find depictions of the waveforms you ought to see on an oscilloscope as certain operations take place, for example. You also get full documentation of the chip's machine language, particularly that portion relevant to 3-D processing operations. There's coverage of floating-point operations, cache management, bus signals, and the chip's debugging modes. To top off this compilation of engineering data, there's a lucid foreword by PC Magazine pundit John Dvorak. --David Wall

Skeptical cont'd
I would like to append to my previous comments to provide further clarity.

While the object file containing instruction code will be stored in RAM, the MPU will use a decoder or look-up table to handle the instruction. This hardware will not be changed.

Skeptical of the reviews
I've read the reviews and skeptical of their value. Here's why:

1. A program is a list of instructions. Instructions are "hardwired" on the processor "chip". Yes, you can program a processor. Your writing lists of instructions so that the processor will interface with other onboard devices and hardware and execute ALU operations. I don't believe the author was meaning that you are to change the hardware.

2. I'm not familiar with the AMD MPU but am skeptical of the video control issue. Depending on the architecture of an MPU it could act like a video card.

3. If an MPU can execute most of its intruction at reduce bus cycles (translating to reduced clock time) yes it will process faster.

If there is anyone out there that can provide a fair review of this book and point out why I should buy the book besides the manufactorers user manual I would be very interested in reading it.

A great way to learn about PC Processors
It's a little out-dated now, of course, but if you're interested in learning about PC processor technology and how it all works, this book is a great value. Of course, no one is going to go buy a K6-2 these days, but the terminology and the concepts you'll learn apply to any processor. ... First, no one ever said that the K6-2 was going to replace the video card. Second, all AMD chips from the K6 on up ALL HAVE MMX SUPPORT. Finally, when they said you could "reprogram the processor," they were talking about the "virtual processor" on the CD-ROM, ...I've seen this book listed used for around $..., so it's a really cheap way to learn about the fascinating technology behind all PC processors.
