4 to 5 stars had there been color!
This is an excellent book with tons of pictures. Foreword by Herb Adams the suspension king. There isn't really too much to say about it except for some great pictures, and it would probably be a ton better had the pictures been in color. Every year car up to the 30th anniversary is shown in this book. There are also a few customs and some of the other cars like the concepts. You won't be dissappointed, but you will with no color. Recommended

Can we have a little color, please!?
This book was pretty well written, but in the 20th century, we all could use a little color to perk up our days. There was a great amount of pictures. . . A LOT OF PICTURES! But absolutely no color--except for the brilliant cover photo. I guess I'm too materialistic.

A Brief Glimse
Although generally I am a fan of Bettina Rheims' photography I found that this book left me a little unsatified. The book does nicely demonstrate some of her work, but I felt it needed more. However, for someone who is after an idea of what Bettina Rheims has to offer, this is probably a great place to start.. especially considering the price.

Nice book but...
I liked ALL Richard Kern books, and since, people liking Kern recommend me this one, I decied to take a look. To my sourprise, this book is not that bad (I put 4 * to it) but, it's not comparable (IMHO) to Richard Kern Works. It hasn't that "je-ne-se-qui" that all Kern books have. I don't know how to explain it better, but, perhaps, you'll like this album, but in my case, comming from Kern, I found it a little "poor"...

B&S fans beware!
Alright, I admit that I found this book solely because I am a huge Belle and Sebastian fan and thought I would check out a novel that had been 'inspired' by them. BIG MISTAKE.

I guess I should have been warned: the title of Neiss's pretentious dreck is a fictitious book that characters on occasion read (or even write) in B&S songs... this author wants to put himself in the songs? Yeah, well... no one would waste their precious few minutes of indie-song fame reading this.

The story is second-rate: boy falls for foreign girl, parents and continents threaten to drag them apart, boy and girl grow up, get married, and stay in love against all obstacles, and the writing is even worse. Every noun and verb is preceded by a facile adjective, making the book about 1/2 times longer than need be. Sloppy writing to the extreme. The most appalling factors, though, are the continuous misspellings, bad punctuation, and grammatical errors that permeate this book. Jr. High kids are more consistent than this. Maybe this was some 'hip' thing to do that I just didn't get, or maybe the editor died while trying to muddle his way through all the extraneous adjectives, but whatever the cause was, it still is painful to read.

By the way, B&S is only mentioned in a handful of places, in case you thought maybe you should just read it to get a good 'plug' for your favorite band.

Do not bother with "The State I am In". Go listen to "Tigermilk" and read Stuart David's "Nalda Said" instead.

I have never so badly wasted 4 hours of my life on a book.

Very cool...new, insightful, and entertaining
I'm a Belle and Sebastian fan and heard about this book from my friend. B&S makes several references to a book called "the state that I am in", and so I just had to read it. Anyway, it is an interesting, fresh perspective from a talented young author. He so effortlessly covers so many themes...the struggle between responsibility and pleasure, the loss of innocence, and the struggle to find true love in today's high-tech world. I noticed how he looks at everyday things with a unique, multicultural perspective. It's been several weeks since I finished the book and I haven't been able to forget about Daniel and Izabela.

Dr Eby's prophecy did not come to pass...
Well, at least my prophecy came to pass. I prophesied that Dr Eby was another false prophet. I was correct. Dr Eby got all the hype by stating he would not die before the rapture occured. Well, he's dead and no rapture. Many hardcore Eby-followers claim that he was the modern-day Methuselah, and after his death the rapture would occur. Well, two years have passed and no rapture. Is the rapture coming soon? I think so, but dont believe some date-setting false prophet for an exact time as it is not for us to know the times or seasons.

Amazing encounter with Jesus
Any encounter with Jesus is amazing to hear. Dr, Eby's message from His encounter with the Lord Himself has greatly encouraged me to get up and work by spreading the gospel. Gosh i never realized it is getting that soon till Jesus returns. The thought of Jesus coming in my lifetime is gas in my engine, In this book, Dr. Eby tells of how he also went to hell and likewise gives an account of his paradise experience when he died temporarily. Amazing book. Another book by Dr.Eby: Didn't you read my book - also tells of the same accounts in even more detail. I like his other book more since it has more content in terms of revalations from Jesus while covering the same encounters.

this is the most boring andunexiting book i 've ever read.

Thank You M'Am a wonderful book!
A must have for parents of busy little boys.... I read this book to my son and he laughed non-stop! Langston Hughes's smooth style of writing was a hit with this book. The story was simple and easy to relate to. I originally borrowed the book. I liked it so much, that I had to buy my own personal copy.

Why I Am A Conservative (Broadside Series)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Second Thoughts Books (November, 1996)
Author: P.J. O'Rourke
Amazon base price: $3.00
Average review score:

oh yeah
not bad but conservatism = no progress ? I'm not an American, but have you noticed how the great American political heroes have actually been radicals not conservatives?

Effective Use of Humor to Communicate Conservative Message
With respect to the ability for Conservatives to communicate their message, P.J. O'Rourke is ahead of the game. He utilizes humor effectively to transmit the hope and dignity inherent in the Conservative message. And at the same time, he mocks, belittles, and refutes Liberalism by engaging it unto reducto ad absurdum. Liberals Beware! O'Rourke possesses a very powerful weapon of persuasion.

O'Rourke makes it clear that Conservatism has nothing whatsoever to do with progress or any lack thereof. Conservatism has to do with preserving what is good and right. Conservatism is opposed to change for the sake of change itself. And Conservatism is opposed to engaging in change to fancy the ego of someone bent on being creative at the expense of human lives.

And Conservatives are none too proud to seek advice from the past - "A state without the means of some change is without the means of its conservation ... People will not look forward to posterity, who never look backward to their ancestors." (Reflections on the Revolution in France [1790], Edmund Burke)

An apalling effort to justify her murder of her own child.
I was sickened by this book. This woman is proud of the thousands of lifes she has taken. She evens describes feeling the convulsions of her own baby in utero as she had it injected with concentrated saline. She chose to do this at 20 weeks, at a time when the baby has already been felt kicking and moving for many weeks. As the mother of six beloved children, I simply cannot imagine how another mother could choose her own convenience over the life of her child. How does one negate the value of life based on age? And how is this thought process different than that of Hitler who negated the value of life based on race?

The "right to choose" is one that should be treasured by all, yet why do we use this term for the right to kill? Why not choose not to conceive? Or if an unwanted pregnancy does occur, why not choose to place the baby with one the thousands of couples waiting and waiting to adopt?

Personal Look at the Issue of Reproductive Rights
American women are at a real crossroads as far as their reproductive rights are concerned. The historic Roe v. Wade decision of the early 1970s could actually be overturned in the next few years if Texas Governor George W. Bush is elected President. Bush would likely have to make several appointments to the Supreme Court, enough in all probability to overturn Roe v. Wade, given the current balance on the Court. Despite his reassurance that he will not attach a pro-life litmus test to his appointments, it is almost certain that his Supreme Court nominees would vote to overturn Roe.

Despite the fact that the right of women to choose an abortion is in peril, there is little consciousness of this fact in American society. Suzanne T. Poppema's book, Why I Am An Abortion Doctor, provides an exceptionally timely wake up call on the subject.

In her book, Dr. Poppema tells the fascinating story of how she rebelled against her family background and the school she attended, and became a committed feminist who rejected the paternalistic notion that the state should be able to govern women when it comes to matters of reproduction. She relates how she trained to become an abortion doctor and what it is like to run a clinic in an era when the anti-choice movement contains a fringe which is committed to taking violent, even lethal action to stop abortions. Dr. Poppema drives to work each day wearing a bullet proof vest. She has to deal with all of the barriers placed in the way of abortion clinics in American society today.

Her book eloquently tells the stories of women who choose to have abortions, because of their marital or financial circumstances, or for other reasons. The real life stories of women who have made the choice to terminate a pregnancy is a very useful antidote to the hateful propaganda which so often dominates the discussion.

Dr. Poppema explains how RU 486---the so-called abortion drug, developed in Europe---holds out the promise of replacing surgical abortions with this alternative, which is now widely available in France, and has been tried on an expermental basis in the United States.

Why I Am An Abortion Doctor is well written, absorbing and to the point on an issue that is bound to gain even greater prominence between now and election day in November.

Like the first test-tube baby, like Roe v. Wade, like Dr. Kevorkian, Dolly the cloned sheep has opened up new dilemmas in ethics, biology, and medicine. Director for the Center of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania, Arthur Caplan has a talent for getting to the heart of such issues, teasing out the complexities, and forecasting the implications of ethical positions. Skirting the mire of polemics, Caplan comes back time and again to the notion of trust and need to work through ethical dilemmas as a group. Broad in its scope and technical at times in its depth, Am I My Brothers Keeper? is an insightful, up-to-date exploration of our most daunting ethical conundrums.

20 Years In Waiting
For 20 years I have regretted not purchasing this book. I first saw it in a book store while in college, and ever since the subject intrigued me.

The Pan Am story is truly an American Saga. Robert Daley takes an "Detective Friday" approach in only reporting the facts. Nevertheless, the tale is worth reading. Prior to Juan Trippe's Pan Am, the only way to get from one continent to another was via steamer. Trippe, Lindbergh and the orignal Pan Am employees established commerical aviation as we know it today. Daley, as dry as he can be, does a thorough job of factually describing the infancy of commercial air travel.

If you can get your hands on a copy of this book, do it. It is a far better way to spend your time than on some of a mindless pap currently available.
